Tuesday Steven and I decided to try Sorrento’s in Ilion again. We had previously attempted to dine there on a Friday, but they were too busy (I believe I mentioned it in a blog post). We thought we’d have better luck on a Tuesday. We were right.
“Two for dinner? Dine in?” asked the waiter at the podium when we walked in.
“Yes,” I said. “We want gracious dining surroundings.” That amused him.
The dining room is gracious. I once again admired a painting of a man I presume to be the patriarch of the family standing in what looks like an old fashioned mom and pop grocery. I also like a family tree made of photos pasted on a picture of a tree. I always think I might steal the idea and make one of my family as a Christmas present for my Mom and Dad (don’t tell them).
We ordered drinks — decaf coffee for me and regular for Steve — and heard the specials. I was especially tempted by an appetizer with eggplant, ricotta cheese and proscuitto. When the waiter came back to take our order I ordered a Chicken Francaise Sandwich with Pasta Salad while Steven ordered a Chicken Bacon Wrap with Fries. If the waiter had not asked did we want the eggplant appetizer, I would not have succumbed to temptation, but he did, and I did. I was not sorry. It was delicious. As with many appetizers, it could have been a meal in itself.
Steven managed to eat his whole sandwich and some of his fries. I ate half my sandwich and a little of my salad. It was a good salad, with black olives and little bits of ham and pepperoni. I look forward to enjoying my leftovers. The coffee was good, too. I don’t usually notice the coffee in particular, but this was quite tasty, especially for decaf. I had forgone my usual glass of wine with dinner. I’ll have to remember to do that the next time I dine at Sorrento’s. On a weekday. Or remembering to make a reservation.
