Late, Lame, and Like a Friday

It turns out yesterday was Wuss-out Wednesday.  I fell asleep on the couch without making my blog post.  I have been wanting a lot of sleep lately (cue jokes about my sorely needing beauty rest).  Well, yesterday was kind of like Friday, because I am off work today, so why don’t I dash off a traditional Lame Post Friday post, with random observations and half-baked philosophy.  Traditional kind of fits, too, since today is Thanksgiving.

One random observation I have been making lately is that people are putting up their Christmas decorations.   I LOVE Christmas decorations!  Some folks say it is too early, please can we wait till after Thanksgiving.  This leads me neatly into some half-baked philosophy.

Quite frankly, I can see the point of the Please Wait crowd.  I have been known to speak sternly to those that start talking about Christmas in October.  “Halloween!” I beseech them, “Wait till after Halloween!”

We could go on to ponder how we got to be in such a rush, or why some of us feel the need for three months of Christmas, and how much of this is a profit making scheme of big retail.  Oh, that sounds like a lot of trouble for a late post.

Anyways, I want to go running, and I believe it is not currently precipitating, so I need to get while the gettin’, as they say, is good.

Friday the Lame 13th

Hello and welcome to Lame Post Friday.   I am sitting on my deck and hoping that my neighbor finishes mowing his lawn soon.  My lawn could probably use a going over, but that is not on my agenda for this evening.  Anyways, the sound of the mower can count as a Random Observation.  Regular readers know how I like to make random observations on Lame Post Friday.

Oh, how nice.  The first fellow finished, and now a neighbor down the street is working on his lawn!  At least it is further away so not as loud. I suppose I seem rather churlish, complaining about those industriously working while I sit at my leisure.  Well, I can’t help appearances.  Perhaps I am churlish.  I believe I also have some socially redeeming qualities.

There, those last few sentences can count as Half-Baked Philosophy, the other component of a true Friday Lame Post.

I am sorry to keep harping on about my health (or lack thereof) issues, but I am once again not feeling well.  I am hoping it is merely allergies and a decongestant at bedtime will set things right.

In the meantime, I will attempt to pep up this post with a picture or two.  I am enjoying the sight of our Brown-Eyed Susan’s peeping over the edge of the deck.

They want to say hello.

Hmm… It’s a better shot of the deck rail, but perhaps you can get the idea.  Here is a picture of the flowers I took earlier in the season.

We think they are pretty.

I am feeling the distinct urge to finish with a monster photo.  It is Friday the 13th.  I wonder if I can find…

I think this was really a Mother’s Day picture.

This is from the Friday the 13th movies, right? For all my love of horror, I am woefully illiterate about ’70’s slasher flicks. No matter.  I see I am over 300 words.  I think that is fine for Lame Post Friday.  Enjoy the weekend, all!

Then Again, At Least I Posted Something

So there I was (actually,  here I am,  since I haven’t moved, but “there I was” sounded better in my head), making my blog post about a tasting I attended at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  I took a few pictures as well as copious notes. And I just don’t feel up to making a good blog post about it now.

I guess this makes this a Slacker Saturday post.  I tried not to slack too much today.  I worked on the lawn for what seemed like a long time.  I tried to make further progress in the house.  I mostly felt like hanging out,  knitting,  and watching television.   Or movies.   I can be flexible to that extent.

My question now is, have I worked hard enough all week to deserve a Slacker Saturday?   Probably not.  Then again,  who am I to decide what I do or do not deserve? I would not make such a judgement on somebody else.   Why should I treat myself with less consideration than I would treat some purely hypothetical stranger?

Now we are getting into half-baked philosophy more suitable for Lame Post Friday.  Then again, I did not successfully pose any such philosophical questions yesterday.  Why should I not philosophize (half-bakedly or otherwise) on any day of the week?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

In the meantime,  Happy Saturday,  and I hope to post about that tasting soon.

Mid-Week Mood

It’s the type-it-in-backspace-it-out disease.  I grit my teeth (metaphorically speaking; I live in danger of cracked teeth on account of my unfortunate dental grinding at night) and try to keep typing.  Welcome to another Wuss-out Wednesday post.

What I kept backspacing out was any mention of the down mood that has been plaguing me.  I hate to mention it, because what the blankety-blank do I have to complain about?  The stern voice inside me says, “Just quit whining and get on with things.” Alas, I do not respond well to such bracing treatment.

On the other hand, perhaps some of my readers have down moods and might like to feel that they are not alone.  When somebody tells me they are in a down mood, I usually respond with sympathy.  Why do I not treat myself with such gentleness?  Ah, that calls for some half-baked philosophy more suitable to Lame Post Friday.

There’s a director who got into his work.

I thought a random silly picture would pep things up.  It also cheers me up.  Who could be uncheered by William Castle?   What other pictures can I find?  I’ll check my Media Library.

But sometimes I am piddle puttering.

Here’s another bit of silliness,  given to me by my sister Cheryl.

This is not exactly a monster picture

I add this not because it is silly, but because it is a good reason for me to keep making posts, however foolish they may be.  Maybe I’ll close with something silly, though.

Who, me? Silly? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

I’m in a better mood now.  As always,  thank you for tuning in.

At Least I’ve Had Coffee

So it’s my blogiversary and here I am making my Wuss-out Wednesday post early Thursday morning.  How appropriate and SO typical of me these days.  I would like to get back to making actual blog posts instead of continually publishing apologies for my failure to do so.

Well,  I am not exactly apologizing this morning.   I’m not even going to explain why this apology — I mean POST — is late.  It is a dull story and lame excuse (could “lame” be a sign I am looking forward to Friday?   No doubt).  Where was I?

I actually have a couple of things to write real posts about.  I guess my assignment is to write one of them while on breaks at work today.  In the meantime I would like to get this piece of foolishness up to 200 words.   Not for any good reason, I suppose, except that it is the rule I set for myself.

There’s a possible topic for some half-baked philosophy on a future Lame Post Friday:  how important it is to follow arbitrary rules one makes up for oneself for possibly specious reasons?  I can’t begin to answer that question right now, although I have at least had coffee.

Note: not including this note, I am at exactly 200 words.

Back to Two Posts Behind: How Lame!

Yes, I missed my Lame Friday Post yesterday.  In my defense, and I guess it’s not much of a defense, I wanted to take a nap before getting ready for a performance of Mornings at Seven at Ilion Little Theatre (I believe I mentioned the play I am in).  Now I am up on Saturday morning, and, ooh, look, its just after seven.  OK, that’s all I got.

Still, blog posts must be made; we’ve gone over that before.

I paused then to go to the bathroom (please do not say TMI, I have a reason for mentioning it). On the way back here, I looked out the window, hoping to make a random observation or two.  Regular readers may remember that I declared Lame Post Friday the day for random observations and half-baked philosophy.

There is a what appears to be a fast food cup in my back yard, right at the back fence.  How did that get there?  Perhaps it blew during one of the wind storms.  I don’t imagine I get many passers-through in my back yard.  One day some little boys were climbing over the fence, but that was a long time ago.  I asked them not to do that, and I don’t think those boys live around here any more.  They would be unlikely to be carrying styrofoam coffee cups during the shenanigans I witnessed anyways (WHY is my computer underlining styrofoam?  That is certainly a word and has been for some time!).

That parenthetical comment could set me up for some half-baked philosophy about what is a word and why does my computer underline some of them, but I am over 200 words.  That is enough nonsense for a late, lame post, I think.  Happy Friday and Saturday, folks.

Too Much on my Lame Plate

How embarrassing.  I get caught up by making my Thursday post on Thursday, then fail to make my Friday post on Friday.  I confess to getting a good laugh at myself.  I set up my rules.  I break my rules.  I make contingency rules.  It is not easy being me, but it can be entertaining.  Seriously, how lame is it to not even make a lame post on Lame Post Friday?  Yet I have similarly failed before.  Well, I could have posted last night, but at the time sleep seemed more important.  We make our choices.  The Spanish have a saying, take what you want and pay for it, says God.

Well, I got a bit of philosophy into that first paragraph.  I won’t call it half-baked, though, because I have always liked that expression.  Most of my philosophy falls into the half-baked category.  Full disclosure:  I have never read much “real” philosophy.  I’m afraid it would make my head hurt.

In the meantime, my life could have gotten less complicated after today, but I fear it will not.  Again, it will be my own fault.  Today is the murder mystery for the Herkimer County Historical Society, A Trivial Murder.  I still have a prop to make, and I’d better go over my lines again.  And figure out what to wear.  I wonder if I can find my purple hair dye.  My character might have purple hair.  But I digress.  The point is, it will be one thing off my plate.  But I have added one, possibly two more. What the hell, me?

The item I have definitely added will not even get going for another month or two.  A friend is putting together a Mummer performance for the Great American Irish Festival at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds in July.  I have never been to the Irish Festival.  I believe beer is involved.  I have also never been a Mummer.  It is a traditional Irish kind of guerrilla theatre.  I will definitely post more about it later.

The other thing that I can’t quite bring myself to say no to involves writing a few scenes about Roscoe Conkling, owner of one of the famous mansions on Rutger Street in Utica.  Theatre AND writing.  How can I not do it?  But it is coming up soon, and the scenes need to be staged as well, so I am trying to find out how simply we can get away with doing it, and how much help I will have.  We’ll see how it plays out (see what I did there?).

In the meantime, this must count as my Lame Friday Post, typed in Saturday morning over coffee (THANK GOD for coffee!).  I will strive to make today’s post TODAY, before I am off for what I hope will be another theatrical triumph (I feel certain it will be, relying on the awesome talent of my cast mates and the readiness to be entertained of our audience).  Happy Weekend.
