One Sunday with Triple Cheese, Please!

I said earlier I might try for a Sunday Cinema Post,  and here I am, on Sunday, having watched a few movies, and ready to make a blog post.  My husband, Steve, graciously agreed to watch cheesy horror movies.  Accordingly, I located a VHS cassette I picked up at a rummage sale of Monster from Green Hell.  I could not exactly remember how the plot unfolded but hoped it would not be too slow.  That is Steve’s usual problem with that sort of movie: too slow!  I fear he is often right.

And I think I have insect problems!

A scary scene, no?  Yes, it is.  Unfortunately, we had to sit through HOURS of guys walking through Africa, stock footage of animals panicking, and various other slow scenes explaining what was or was about to happen.  And, yes, it felt like hours, even though the whole movie clocks in at 71 minutes, according to the box.  My bad!  I should have remembered.

“Scream! Scream for your lives!”

I knew we would have better luck when I put in The Tingler.  William Castle and Vincent Price, there could be no possible objection.  It is one of my favorites.

It is really not so romantic as all that.

We moved on to a Vincent Price/Agnes Moorehead vehicle, The Bat.  That is a fun movie too, although it does not pay to think too hard about it.  I don’t want to say it has plot holes, but you could probably strain spaghetti through the script.

It was a very relaxing Sunday afternoon.  I feel a little bad that I got almost nothing useful done, but you’ll have that.  At least I’ll have that.  In the meantime,  I am over 250 words,  posting on time.  Score!  Bring on the week!

Movies on my Mind

I last posted four days ago. This is not normal behavior for Mohawk Valley Girl. And about all I can manage right now is a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post. Or perhaps a Sunday Cinema Post. Hmmm…

Today has been a very relaxed day, even for a Sunday. After I took my post-run shower, I put on neither earrings nor a bra (do NOT say TMI) (you know who you are). I wore pajama bottoms and a Halloween t-shirt. We watched movies while I crocheted a crochet in Halloween colors (black, orange and purple).

My Sunday guy.

We started out with Dracula on Svengoolie, DVR’d recently. I was telling Steven some of the differences between the movie and the book, although it is not a bad adaptation for Hollywood.

We had a hard time deciding on a second feature but finally settled on Murder on the Orient Express, the newer, Kenneth Branaugh version, which Steven recently acquired on DVD.

A star-studded Agatha Christie romp!

I prefer the Albert Finney version, but the new one is entertaining, and I am happy to have it in our collection. After that, I wanted something cheesey and suggested Monster from Green Hell, which I picked up on video at a rummage sale some time ago.

It’s scary!

It actually took a lot of time to get to the monster, and there were some dull parts between attacks. You’ll have that with these old flicks. When the movie ended, Steven had stepped out of the room, so I sneaked in another cheesey rummage sale video, The Brain Eaters.

I don’t remember that chick in the movie.

I wrote about this movie some time ago in a post titled “Rest Your Brain With Brain Eaters.” Steven came up with that title. I need to start writing about cheese movies again. Um, and everything else I used to blog about.

Not Independent from Bad Movies

OK, it’s really one bad movie, one good movie and one… eh (making that so-so motion with one hand).  It is Independence Day, or the 4th of July.  Some people don’t like it when you say the 4th of July, but I wasn’t in love with that movie Independence Day, so I stopped using that phrase for a while (and now I hear there’s a sequel that’s even worse!).  (Full disclosure:  I was moderately entertained by Independence Day and do not rule out seeing it again) (I do not intend to watch the sequel, although it cannot be denied that shit happens).

Where was I? Ah yes, celebrating our country’s birthday.  Not really.  I do patriotic things when the opportunity arises, I try to honor my country always; today I’m just enjoying a day off with my beloved husband Steven and our recently acquired pooch, Spunky.  We had a lazy start to the day, although I eventually went running, did laundry and took the dog for a walk.  My main object of the day was to watch some movies.  That is what I will concern myself with in this blog post.

We started with The Vampire Bat, a DVD we purchased at Valley Exchange in Herkimer, NY.  It was not very far into the movie that I realized we had seen it before.  It is in fact included on our collection of 50 Horror Classics. I wrote a blog post about it.  The movie was 73 minutes according to my calculations, not 63 as claimed on the box.  Steven said it seemed longer.

Steven suggested Jaws next, as something that moves a little quicker.  We have watched this movie many times; it is one of our favorites, especially on the 4th of July (we also saw it once on Severed Head Sunday, which I also wrote a blog post about).  Next we put in a video cassette I purchased at a rummage sale, Monster from Green Hell. I can’t tell you much about that, because, quite frankly, I paid even less attention to it than I pay to most of the silly movies we watch. I’ll have to watch it again to write about it.

We stopped watching movies after the Monster and are looking at crime shows on cable television.  A Dateline on ID just started that we have already seen more than once.  I must stop blogging and find another show to watch. I hope you are all having a grand weekend.  I go back to work tomorrow.  Won’t that be fun?
