Late, Dramatic Throwback Thursday

Is a late blog post better than no blog post at all? Discuss amongst yourselves while I get a cup of coffee.

And not that skinny.

My tiredness continues.  It would be more dramatic, and part of me feels more accurate, to say exhaustion.  Who, me, dramatic? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

I was with this bunch last night.

Of course, as regular readers know, drama is my life.  Part of it, at any rate.  Last night we had our pick-up rehearsal for The Man in the Bowler Hat, the play I am in at Ilion Little Theatre (ILT).  As I mentioned before, it is part of An Evening of Timeless Comedy, three one-act plays of significance in ILT’s history.  They are celebrating 100 years this season.

It was a Wrist to Forehead moment.

I thought I would add a picture from another ILT production, thus making this a Throwback Thursday Post as well.  This is from Dirty Work at the Crossroads,  which was directed by my late beloved husband Steve.  I am the one in blue, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead.  The other lady is Julianne Allen, a stalwart ILT member who has also sadly passed away.

On that sad note, I see I am over 200 words.  I have time for more coffee!  An Evening of Timeless Comedy continues this weekend, Sept. 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday Sept. 24 at 2 p.m.  For more information visit the Ilion Little Theatre Club Facebook page or website, http://www.ilionlittletheatre.org

By the Way, I’m in a Play

So yesterday it was a migraine.  I made it through rehearsal, so that was something.

Oh yeah, rehearsal.  I have not said much about the play I am in at Ilion Little Theatre (ILT).  It is being billed as An Evening of Timeless Comedy and consists of three one-act plays of significance in ILT’s history.  I am in The Man in the Bowler Hat.  The other two plays are  So’s Your Old Antique and The Mayor and the Manicure.

One reason I have been so tired lately is the wear and tear of being in a play.  Another reason is that seasonal allergies are doing a number on me.  The other reason is my ongoing grief and depression.  So once again I ask my readers for patience as my blog suffers.

It’s called a table reading, although we do not actually read the table.

Here is a picture from our first read-through.   I meant to take more rehearsal shots but did not get to it somehow.

That same night.

Performance dates September 15, 16, 22, 23 at 7:30 p.m. and September 17, 24 at 2 p.m. at Ilion Little Theatre, 13 Remington Ave., Ilion, NY.  General Admission is $20.  For more information,  you can visit the Ilion Little Theatre Club Facebook page or website www.ilionlittletheatre.org

Who Me? Back on Stage?

I realize I did not deliver on my proposed post (I feel sure I did not PROMISE anything) about my upcoming theatrical endeavor.  I shall now correct the omission by telling you a little about An Evening of Timeless Comedy to be presented September 15 through 17 and 22 through 24.

An Evening of Timeless Comedy  is a series of one act plays pulled from the earliest days of the theater’s 100 year history.  Each play is an important part of the Ilion Little Theatre’s History.  The Mayor and the Manicure by George Ade is the first play presented by ILT Club.  At the time, the group met and performed in Lucille Worden’s attic. The Man in the Bowler Hat by A.A. Milne is the last play performed in Lucille Worden’s attic, in 1927.  So’s Your Old Antique by Clare Beecher Kummer was the first play performed at The Stables, ILT’s current home, in 1930.

Dedicated actors!

We had a read-through of all three plays recently.  I asked if anybody minded if I took pictures for my blog post.  After a few jokes about the possibility of blackmail (who, us? Do anything to be blackmailed about? Say it ain’t so!), permission was graciously granted.

Another view of the excellent casts.

I am Mary in The Man in the Bowler Hat.  I will have a lot more to say about that later (preview of coming attractions).

Our delightful directors.

I will naturally be sharing more as we go along.  In the ,eantime, if you want more information, you can visit Ilion Little Theatre’s Facebook page or ilionlittletheatre.org.

Post Performance Post with Pics

I am not surprised I missed making my Saturday blog post on Saturday.  When I hadn’t gotten to it before I left for the play, I knew I was unlikely to get to it afterwards.

The play, of course, is Love’s Labour’s Lost, presented by LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company as part of Canal Celebration (perhaps you have read a few of my blog posts about it).  It was a lot of fun.

I received a few pictures in my email, which I will now share.

A royal couple.
The princess and her courtier.
And with one of her ladies.
Frenemies. I’m the one in the cap.
The girls plotting against the guys.
They are both in disguise.
Curtain call without the curtain.

We have one more performance, today, Sunday Aug. 14, 1 p.m., at Benton’s Landing in Little Falls, NY. Admission is free. If you’re in the area, come on down!

Rehearsal with Pizza? Yes, Please!

A few of us LiFTers met at Benton’s Landing in Little Falls to rehearse bits and pieces of Love’s Labour’s Lost.  Regular readers may remember that this is Little Falls Theatre Company and  that we are presenting the Shakespeare play as part of Little Falls Canal Celebration next weekend.

We got a few scenes done a few times when thunder started to rumble.  We moved inside to Mangia Macrina’s Wood-fired Pizza to run lines.

I’ve enjoyed their yumminess before.

By this time there were fewer of us, but we went over a few problem spots while enjoying pizza and drinks.  I did not have any pizza but sipped some Pinot Noir.  Others had Margherita pizza with basil.  I think it is delightful that Mangia’s now offers beer and wine.

Actors at work.

After rehearsing we sat and chatted for a while, making for a perfectly enjoyable evening.

A good prop for a warm night.

You can catch Love’s Labour’s Lost at Benton’s Landing in Little Falls Saturday and Sunday August 13 and 14 at 1 p.m.  You can enjoy Mangia Macrina’s Pizza at Canal Place in Little Falls Wednesday and Thursday from 12 to 7 p.m.,  Friday and Saturday from 12 to 8 p.m., Sunday 12 to 5 p.m.

LiFT Labours

Rehearsals continue for Love’s Labour’s Lost by William Shakesapeare, to be presented by LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company as part of Little Falls Canal Celebration August 13 and 14, 2022. We rehearsed last night, with the result that I was too tired to make even a Tired Tuesday Post.  I hope to make it up to you by sharing a few more rehearsal pictures.  Of course I also hope to induce local readers to come out and see the play.  It’s going to be great!

A delightful bantering duo.

We were looking at costume pieces last night, so I should have taken a couple more pictures, only I did not have my Tablet with me.  Don Armadio, the dude in the hat, is going to wear the purple cape I wore a few years ago as Gonzago, or whatever his name was in The Tempest.  Don’t judge me to harshly for forgetting the name.  I am having enough trouble remembering my lines for this one!

The prince and his guys.

We have been having a blast at rehearsals, cracking each other up.  When somebody does something, on purpose or accidentally, particularly funny, we all yell, “Keep it! Keep it!”  I would give an example, but I don’t want to spoil the joke for anybody who comes to see the play.

This one is a really funny scene!

I think I will bring my Tablet tonight and get somebody to take some pictures with me in them, as well as my friend Kim.  All our scenes are together, so I have none of her, either.  Egregious omission!  Does that sound Shakespearean?  I may be infected.

Love’s Labour’s Lost will be shown free of charge at Benton’s Landing in Little Falls, NY, at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14, 2022.  I hope to see you there!

Pre-Rehearsal Post, Yay!

How long has it been since I made a Pre-Rehearsal Post? I can’t possibly do the math, and I am not about to try to arrow back and look. I am on our laptop (which regular readers may recall is actually a dining-room-table-top and we dare not move it), and it is acting even more sluggishly than the Tablet, although not quite as sluggishly as my brain, so there’s that.

I do not have a whole lot to say, which is convenient, since I do not have a whole lot of time to make the post. It might be a better idea to study my lines some more. I have two parts. It is very exciting for me.

I have been looking over my lines while on break at work. It is fun when my co-workers ask me what I am reading, and I can tell them I am in a play. I enjoy telling all and sundry about my theatrical endeavors. A few of them may even decide to come see the play. A co-worker once came to see a murder mystery, and he brought his son and girlfriend.

To re-iterate, LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company, is presenting Love’s Labour’s Lost by William Shakespeare, at Benton Landing, Little Falls, NY, in August as part of Little Falls Canal Celebration.

And So It Begins

I got an email last week about a table reading for Love’s Labour’s Lost by William Shakespeare, the play to be presented by LiFT, the Little Falls, NY Theatre Company during the Canal Days this August (ooh, that was a long sentence).

Full disclosure: My friend Kim told me about it first, and I went searching through my emails till I found it. I have four email addresses and sadly do not check them all on a regular basis. Be that as it may, I am really excited to be starting Shakespeare again.

Of course there is that little voice in my head that says, “What are you thinking? You’re tired all the time. Your brain does not function at the capacity it once did, and you still haven’t found time to clean the damn house! How the hell are you going find the oomph to be in a play?”

To that voice, I explain, “Shut up.”

I wrote the above on Monday, because I was too excited to wait till the read-through to start blogging about LiFT and Shakespeare. We had the read-through last night, and it was FUN! There were people I have worked with before and have not seen in a while. There were new to me people (I mean, they weren’t brand new people) (I don’t think), and people who were new to the threatre. The more experienced people assured the newcomers that they would catch right on and have a lot of fun. Indeed, as we read, they certainly seemed to.

Now I have a great motivation to accomplish the elusive WordPress upgrade and share pictures of this new cast as we rehearse another Shakespeare play. No time to write more! I have to start learning my lines.

Shakespeare, Here I Come!

I have been very sporadic about posting lately, and for that I apologize. In my defense, I have no defense. Explanations are tiresome. On with the blog post!

I mentioned recently that LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company is doing Summer Shakespeare again with Love’s Labour’s Lost (perhaps you read my blog post about it). Auditions are this Saturday, May 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Little Falls Community Center, 524 W. Main St., Little Falls, NY. Auditionees (yes, it is “auditionees” not “auditioners;” I googled it) need not prepare anything, which is good news for me, because I cannot memorize a Shakespeare monologue in two days and I do not remember any of my speeches from past plays. A regular monologue I could perhaps make up as I went along, but Shakespeare talk is not easily ad libbed (and if you can do it, I would like to hear it) (added note: my computer is underlining “libbed,” but what else is the past tense of “ad lib”?).

Alas, my friend Kim is out of town. Kim and I got to be such close friends riding back and forth to rehearsals of Much Ado About Nothing, my first Shakespeare experience. Maybe she can get a separate audition.

Any local readers who are the least bit interested in theatre, Shakespeare, community, friends and fun, are highly encouraged to audition. For more information, you can visit LiFT’s Facebook page. See you on the stage!

And What About That Play?

Regular readers may remember that before I got sick, I was going to rehearsals for a play at Ilion Little Theatre. What a terrible time to get sick! Don’t these viruses know the show must go on?

Of course, this show will go on, but sadly (for me, at least), it will go on without me. The director was willing to wait for me, when we all thought I would feel better any minute now. Alas, that has not happened. I think they got someone really good to replace me, though, so that is good news.

As for me, I returned to work yesterday but could not make it for all eight hours. I punched out after seven and had rather a miserable drive home (luckily it is only 20 minutes). This morning (as by the way, I am pecking in Monday’s post a day late), I am debating whether or not to call in entirely today.

I shall close with a plug for the play. I may not get to see it myself, but I wholeheartedly encourage local readers to do so: Game Show at Ilion Little Theatre, 13 Remington Ave., Ilion, NY (behind the factory), Feb 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m., Feb 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. For more information, go to http://www.ilionlittletheatre.org/ or find their Facebook page.
