Spoiler Alert! I Give Away the Ending of One Monster

I am resorting to a Monstrous Monday post, because I fear if I wait till I leave my house and do something blogworthy (and there is no guarantee of either of those things happening), I will not post at all.  We can’t have that.

“Why can’t we?”

Regular readers may remember my favorite guy, Nosferatu, of the eponymous 1922 silent film.  It’s scary!  I love it!  I also love the song by Blue Oyster Cult, which I only recently discovered.  I think my vampire friend looks startled in this picture, or perhaps he is just trying to remember how to say grace.

She looks like I feel.

And here is the beautiful Candace Hilligoss in Carnival of Souls (1962).  I guess she is not looking her best in this shot.  Carnival of Souls is a great example of how you can make a very unsettling movie on a low budget.   One might argue that Candace is not exactly a monster, but I usually try to avoid arguments as I often lose them.

Another scary one!

These could be described as monsters of the human sort, but I believe they call themselves witches.  Does anybody recognize a young Christopher Lee?  I think I need to revisit some of these older horror movies I have on DVD.

A reformed monster.

I close with a seasonal monster, the Grinch.  I suppose this gives away the ending of the story.  I know what!  I’ll put in a Spoiler Alert in the headline!

I’m a Sucker for Vampires

It has been a while since I made a Monstrous Monday post.  Of course that happens when I go days and days without posting.  I am trying to be better about that.  I am trying to be better about other things but with indifferent success.  One must persevere (one being me).

He’s scary!

I throw in a monster, before I get bogged down in justifying my lack of success and begin to wonder how hard I am really trying.  A nice creepy silhouette of Nosferatu from the eponymous 1922 silent movie will take my mind off my shortcomings.  I mean, my problems.  There is a new Nosferatu in theatres now, and I have been thinking about making a trip to New Hartford, NY to see it.  I know, I know, it is cheaper to stream, but I don’t know how to do that.  Additionally, it is more of an event to go see a movie on the big screen.  And there are some great eateries around the cinema, so one could make a day of it.  If only I still had a husband to drag along.  Oh dear, that sounds like I am feeling sorry for myself, which perhaps I am.  Quick, throw in another monster!

It says NO SMOKING, but he is smoking hot, yes!

Here is a different vampire, Blackula.  I rather enjoyed that movie.  I once started to watch the sequel, Scream, Blackula, Scream.  I do not remember why I did not see all of it.  Perhaps it was a DVR malfunction.  Alas that it has never come my way again.  I really must learn to navigate Roku TV.  I would imagine there are any number of movies I would like to see available for free (I am a widow on a fixed income, you know) (yes, more whining; judge me if you are so inclined).

Somebody offer that vampire a napkin!  And some Visine!

I searched my Media Library for another vampire and found the incomparable Christopher Lee.  He looks as if he was interrupted mid-bite.

The man that set the standard.

I felt I should include Bela Lugosi, who many consider the quintessential Count Dracula.  My late husband, Steve, always found this movie a little slow.  I see what he means, but I enjoy it.  I guess I’m just a sucker for vampires (see what I did there?).  Ooh, that would make a good headline!

A Little Dracula Improves My Sunday

Hello and welcome to a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I meant to post something on Saturday, even if it was a Late Lame Post Friday post.  Alas, I did not.  Now I am sitting on my couch, looking at Dracula Has Risen from the Grave, which is not the movie I thought it was.  I get these Hammer Dracula films mixed up sometimes.  Christopher Lee has dreadfully red eyes.  Get some Visine, dude!

Looks like he was interrupted mid-chomp.

This picture might be from a different movie, but you get the idea.

Ah, here it is!

I spent some time cleaning my house this morning, then I took a walk, not a long walk.  I just wasn’t feeling it.  Eventually I walked down to Yetty’s where I had a delicious late lunch.  I have leftovers for tomorrow’s dinner.  It really has not been too bad of a Sunday, no real reason to swoon dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead, even if I had a chaise lounge handy.  Incidentally, my sister Diane sent a picture of me in just such a pose on her fainting couch.  I must find a way to download it and use it in the blog.  At least I have another week till the next Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

It’s Not Fall, and It’s Not Friday

We had a hint of fall in the Mohawk Valley today.  I enjoyed it, but unfortunately as soon as my body feels that cooler breeze, it says, “Oh boy!  Allergy season!”  As if the sinuses don’t give me hell 24/7/365.  Shouldn’t that be 24/7/52?  Twenty-four hours, seven days, fifty-two weeks?  I think I should just say all year round.

As you may have noticed, my decongestant makes me a little punchy.

They look evil.

I missed my Monstrous Monday post, so I feel free to make one now. Here is a young Christopher Lee with two actresses I don’t remember (too light-headed to look it up) in Horror Hotel, as it is called in my DVD collection. It is known sometimes by a different name, but I have talked about that before in this space.

An oldie but a goodie.

Just a reminder that it is not really Monday.  I can easily put myself in a time warp, and that would not be a good idea.  I have a thing on Thursday and it would not do to show up on Wednesday or Friday.

Anybody can lose their head once in a while.

Note to self:  Make blog post before taking decongestant.  However, I have long maintained that a bad blog post is better than no blog post at all.  Is it true or am I kidding myself?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

A Few Vampires Never Hurt

Once again, I eschew writing about Mohawk Valley adventures for a Monstrous Monday post.  Full disclosure:  It has not been a particularly monstrous day.  For one reason I took off work for a couple of VA appointments.  I will not elaborate on that, because, you know, HIPAA (if I have that acronym right).

The Shadow of the Vampire?

Why not start right out with my favorite, Nosferatu (1922), that silent horror masterpiece.  I love the use of shadows.

For many the quintessential vampire.

Here is a busier illustration, the 1931 Tod Browning produced film.  My late, dearly missed husband,  Steve, was not especially enamored of this movie, but he occasionally consented to watch it with me.

Another favorite of many.

One might argue that Christopher Lee revitalized the role in the Hammer Films Dracula movies. I am not sure which film this picture is from, but I enjoy watching all of them.  Christopher Lee did not confine himself to Dracula, of course.  He memorably portrayed Frankenstein’s monster and other horror parts, both villainous and heroic.

Very atmospheric. I loved it.

To include one more vampire and get to at least 200 words, I share the poster of Dracula’s Daughter, a worthy addition to the pantheon.  Is pantheon the word I want?  Perhaps I should look it up.

Random vampire picture while I grab my dictionary.

Hmmm… doesn’t seem quite right by the definition, but it is used this way in the example.  On that note of grammar, I see I am over 200 words, so I sign off.  I hope you enjoyed another vampire post.  I will try not to let Tired Tuesday get the best of me.

Monsters I Have Known

The late posts continue as I sit here Tuesday morning hoping to at least do a Monstrous Monday post.  I am sipping re-heated coffee from yesterday (waste not, want not), which is never as good but will surely do (there I go again, calling myself Shirley).  I almost felt like putting on a sweatshirt this morning, as we got a break from the excessive (to me) heat but said to myself, “Don’t worry; as soon as you start drinking the coffee you will get a hot flash.”  Sure enough…

Never mind all that, on with the monsters!

He looks like a friendly fellow.

I open with an unknown monster I found somewhere on the internet back in 2017.  It is a pretty cool scene.  I wonder if it is somebody’s house or an attraction one can visit.  I may never know but enjoy speculating.

He is scary, yes!

I move on to a better known monster, my favorite guy Nosferatu, from the eponymous 1922 silent movie, arguably the scariest movie ever (although I do not argue it myself, because I almost always lose arguments).

Here’s a creepy one!

Perhaps a lesser known monster, here is the unnamed menace from Carnival of Souls.  Is he death?  Is he the devil? I got the picture from the Carnival of Souls Facebook page.

Another low-budget delight.

They may look human, but they are witches, thousands of years old in Haunted Hotel, also known as City of the Damned,  although both are misnomers, as I believe I have pointed out before, because it involves an inn in a village.  Speaking of known and unknown, the guy in the middle is a young Christopher Lee.  I did not recognize him the first time I saw this movie (I have it in one of my DVD horror collections), but it was before I became acquainted with Hammer Horror films.

I see I have rattled on for over 300 words.  Additionally, my coffee has gotten tepid.  I do enjoy making a Monstrous Monday post and hope my readers do as well.  As always, I thank you for tuning in.

Feeling Friday, Feeling Lame

I strive to conquer the type-it-in-backspace-it-out disease at least for long enough to make this week’s Lame Post Friday post.  I am typing it in, at least with all ten fingers, on an unfamiliar computer, never mind why, explanations are tiresome.  All I want to do is make with a few random observations, spout a little half-baked philosophy (the traditional components of Lame Post Friday, I add for anybody just tuning in), hit Publish, and drive on.

“This is a good boy!”

Or I could resort to my Media Library and throw in a few random pictures.  This one is from Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, one of my very favorite movies.  I quote it often.

“Ah-OOOOOOH!”

I was feeling Friday all day long today, which made it an enjoyable day.  What will the weekend bring?  Perhaps not much howling on my part, but one can always hope.

I gotta say, that hood is not a great look.

Perhaps the weekend will bring some cheesy movie watching for me.  The above is Horror Hotel, which is also known by another name which I cannot remember.  Something about a city, some sort of city.  Either way is not the best title, because it concerns an inn in a village, not a hotel in a city.  Can you recognize a young Christopher Lee in the hood?  I did not even know who he was the first time I saw the movie, but after watching a few Hammer Horror films, I recognized him here.

I love that purple!

I go a different way for my final picture.  I am afraid this has been a rather disjointed post (Non-Sequitur Friday?), but I am approaching 300 words.  I must think of a title, hit publish, and get back to enjoying my Friday.  As always, I thank you for tuning in.

Oh, What’s Wrong With Another Vampire Post?

I sip just a little more wine while I make my Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  Oh, don’t shake your finger or your head at me (or your booty, for that matter)!  I haven’t had that much, just a glass or two to end my weekend on a relaxing note.  Earlier I relaxed by watching the rest of the vampire movie I started watching Friday night, Dracula  A.D. 1972. I dug that groovy soundtrack.

He looks a little worried, and somebody needs to hand him a napkin.

Christopher Lee was the Dracula in the movie, as I probably mentioned in my Lame Post Friday post.  He is a fine vampire, but not as dapper as Bela Lugosi.  Never mind, though, I did not mean to make another vampire post.

But if I did, I would include this little cutie.

I had meant to make a blog post about purchasing my mother’s birthday present, which I did on Saturday.  I still intend to make that post, a shout-out to Weisser’s Jewelers, a local business of note.

“Are you sure you don’t want to make a post about vampires?”

That being said, I do not have a whole lot to blog about, nor a whole lot of brain to blog with.  I just now added today’s headline.  I hope no vampires read it and are triggered by the word “post.”  When you think about it (and I always think about these things), a post is practically the same thing as a stake.  Some even have a pointy end, and many of them are wooden.

See what I mean? Dapper.

I close with the quintessential Count Dracula, Bela Lugosi.  Some may disagree, but I say in general you can’t go wrong with a classic.

In the meantime, I am approaching 300 words.  I hope they have been at least mildly entertaining.  I rather enjoy these foolish posts, but I will try for better ones in the future.  No promises about tomorrow, though.  Monstrous Monday, you know.

But Dracula Isn’t Lame

I am looking at Dracula A.D 1972, a Hammer Horror movie on a DVD collection of four such pictures.  Recently somebody on one of the horror pages I follow on Facebook said this was a really dumb movie, and somebody else asked for opinions.  I said I found it fun, not one of my favorites, but worth popping in once in a while.  With that in mind, I popped it in tonight.  Alas that I have no pictures to share of it.  I still can’t figure out how to download pictures on the Chromebook, and I am far too lazy to get on my Tablet, download a picture, put it in my WordPress Media Library, then get back on the Chromebook to make the post.

He is scary, yes?

Here is Christopher Lee as Dracula.  I do not know which movie it is from, but he does not look a whole lot different in this one.

I would rather drink a glass of wine a day.

Taste the Blood of Dracula is also on this disc, on the opposite side.  I put that side in at first, but I had it in my mind to see A.D 1972.

Well, this is a boring blog post, even for Lame Post Friday.  Sorry, I am feeling quite tired but hoping to make my Friday post on Friday.  Still, some might enjoy the pictures of Christopher Lee.  He is rather a horror icon.  In any case, I am over 200 words.  Regular readers know that is my standard.  Once again, I will try for a better blog post tomorrow.

Not Late But Plenty Lame

I have not made a Lame Post Friday post on Friday in a long time.  Of course I am too lazy to try to see how long a time; I am only proud of myself for finding enough oomph to make some semblance of a blog post.  I don’t have any ideas of anything clever or entertaining to say, but that’s OK:  It’s Lame Post Friday!

Dracula likes Friday, too.

A picture usually peps things up, doesn’t it?  I think that is Christopher Lee, looking rather maniacal. He was an excellent Count Dracula.  I do love a good vampire.

This is definitely Christopher Lee.

Here I go with the vampires.  People are going to think it is Monstrous Monday all over again.  Frightening Friday maybe?  Frightful Friday?  Friday Night Frights?  I’m always looking for a new feature, and one that involves monsters would be near and dear to my heart.

I am afraid no Mohawk Valley Adventures are planned for this weekend.  It is Easter weekend, after all.  All the stores will be packed with people shopping for the holiday.  Perhaps the breweries will not be overflowing.  A trip to Heelpath Brewing in Frankfort or Rock Valley Brewing in Little Falls might be eligible.  I will see what my usual adventuring partner, Kim wants to do.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words during which I have not said very much.  Did I mention it was Lame Post Friday?  As always, I thank you for tuning in.

“Was she trying to make a post with vampires and leave me out?”
