My Rules on Monstrous Monday

I have often said that writing begets writing, and I have been writing several things this evening, yet here I sit, looking at a blank space on my “Add New Post” screen.  Maybe I was writing the wrong things.  I wrote a couple journal entries and finished a letter to a friend.  By my rule of Any Writing Counts, that should help.  Then again, why do I think that my rule made up by me has to always be true?

“Why oh whyyyyy can’t I make a blog post?”

I throw in a picture of a monster, because it is Monday.  Regular readers know how I love my Monstrous Monday Posts.

Is this the formula for a decent blog post?

If I continue to add pictures of monsters, I’m sure I can get to 200 words.  I realize making blog posts of at least 200 words is just another one of My Rules For Me.  What is it with me and rules?

Are they pondering the rules of magic?

I wonder if I think something magic is going to happen if I follow these rules.  For example, when I started this blog, I decided I was going to make a post every day for one year.  I did pretty good for the first year, and not bad off and on for the subsequent years (it’s been almost 12).  I don’t know that anything magic happened.  I don’t make up the rules about what counts as magic.

Of Cows and Monsters

What, is it going to be Late Post Week?  I made Sunday’s post on Monday, now I’m making Monday’s post on Tuesday.  What the hell, me?  Never mind the recriminations, let’s make with the monsters!

Sweet!

OK, these are not monsters.  It is a photo from Cabot Creamery Co-operative, one of my Facebook Likes. They share a lot of sweet pictures of cows.  This showed up in my  On This Day yesterday.  I shared it on my News feed then downloaded it, thinking I would use it to soften my blog post about my crappy Sunday.  Then I went a different way, and you know me:  Waste Not Want Not!

Graphic depiction of me trying to rise above my problems.

Here is a bona fide monster, one of my own Halloween decorations.  I say it is a graphic depiction of me, but I will never be that skinny, even if I do go back on the South Beach Diet.

“Follow me! To the graveyard! Ah ha ha ha ha!”

This pleasant fellow, Elliott Ghoul by name, stands in my window all year long.  In previous years, my husband Steven would turn him off after the spooky season, but this year he is still entertaining me by going off at loud noises or when headlights go by just right.

So this is my Monday blog post.  I don’t know if my Monstrous Monday Posts are getting old, but I still enjoy them.  Regular readers know I often find comfort in the macabre.  I hope your Monday was swell and your Tuesday is even better.

Just a Few Mid-Week Monsters

Once again I wussed out on Wednesday.  Once again I have no good excuse so will not attempt to offer one.  However, since I did not make a Monstrous Monday post, I will indulge in some Mid-Week Monsters.  I do like monsters.

“You’re late with your blog post? I’ll get you for that!”

Here is the creepy guy from Carnival of Souls, one of my favorites.  So unsettling with a minimum of special effects, so scary with no blood and gore.  I know, most horror fans love the blood and gore.  I confess to being squeamish.

If it’s blood and gore you want…

Some bloody, gory movies I enjoy were made by Hammer Films in the 1960’s and ’70’s.  I just loves me some Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.

Not monsters, but monstrously talented.

I was looking for a picture of Peter Cushing and found this one, including Vincent Price.  Price was not in any of the Hammer horrors, but he gave delightful performances in several produced by William Castle and Roger Corman, two more of my favorites.

Ah, there’s Cushing in action.

There! I found one with Lee and Cushing!  I guess I can use a picture of a mummy to wrap things up (couldn’t resist a pun; I rarely can).

Never Mind Monday; How About Monsters?

Mondays are problematic for me. Oh, who am I kidding? Every day is a problem for me.  I’M a problem for me!  However, I am sure regular readers are aware of this.  I shall get on with my Monstrous Monday Post.

Reap away, buddy!

This was a decoration at a Halloween party we attended at the Herkimer VFW last October.  He looks like he is giving a little bow.  In greeting?  Acquiescence? Acknowledgement? There is not enough evidence to draw an accurate conclusion.

I think he is just so cute!

This adorable skeleton was a present to me from my husband, Steve.  I named him Bonaparte.  The mug advertises a murder mystery we put together to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I need to finish writing one we plan to put on in September (preview of coming attractions).

Mine is definitely not that big.

I finish with a movie monster, The Brain from Planet Arous.  I have not come across this fellow in my media library in a while.  I like to use this picture when I am feeling particularly brain dead, as I often am these days (cue jokes about how I am mostly brain dead most of the time).

I see I have gotten to 200 words. Score! I hope to see you all again on Tired Tuesday.

New Year, Same Old Blog

So I partied a little too heartily on New Year’s Eve. I don’t imagine I as the only one to do so. And at least I didn’t drink and drive. It is not nearly so dangerous to drink and blog. Today, however, I am feeling tired, drained, and fairly wordless. Well, obviously not entirely wordless.

Do you suppose those are his New Year’s Resolutions?

When in doubt, throw in a picture. This is Nosferatu, one of my favorite monsters (why is “monsters” underlined? That’s how you spell it! I should know). I know, it is not Monstrous Monday nor yet time for Mid-week Monsters. What can I say? Sometimes I need a little monster.

I get Fay Wray and Glenda Farrell mixed up.

Mystery of the Wax Museum is a New Year’s movie for me, because it opens on New Year’s Eve. However, we did not watch it this year.

The real monster?

I was searching my Media Library for one more picture and decided to use one of me. I don’t think I am any more monstrous when I drink than otherwise, but in general I am kind of a stinker.

Right now I am a stinker approaching 200 words on my first blog post of 2022, although my WordPress timestamp may have declared yesterday’s bit of foolishness to be that. Will I post every day in 2022? We shall see.

Claude Rains, Can You Help Me Now?

This is my third attempt at making a post tonight. I do not know if it is my Tablet or WordPress that is hampering me, but I hit the letters with the stylus, and sometimes nothing happens. It is very frustrating. In fact, I find it (wait for it) Monstrous! Yes! That brings us to Monstrous Monday.

A common sentiment, to be sure.

I still have not upgraded my WordPress site so cannot upload new photos. However, since I often rely on my Media Library for Monstrous Monday, I feel comfortable in doing so today. Full disclosure: I was disinclined to post at all. Then I said to myself, Am I a blogger or am I not a blogger? Since I wanted the answer to be “am,” I am posting.

I kind of know how he feels.

I might argue, although I am no hand at argument, that without the ability to upload new pictures, I am trying to function with my right arm cut off. It might be overly dramatic to make such an argument, but when has that ever stopped me?

The picture, by the way, is from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die. I know, it is not a picture of a monster, but it does show the monster’s handiwork. I felt free to stretch a point.

So poised. So suave.

If I had failed to post at all, I could be like the Invisible Man. I guess Claude Rains and I do not really have that much in common, even if I do stretch a point.

However, I see I have babbled myself over 250 words, and my one-letter-stylus-typing seems to be working all right. Score! I’ll work on getting that upgrade and try for another post on Tired Tuesday. Thank you for staying tuned.

W(h)ining About Monsters and Blog Posts

Should I do a Monstrous Monday Post or a Monday Middle-aged Musings? I have not done one of the latter in a while. In fact, I think I even changed it to Monday Mental Meanderings. Fine blogger I am; I can’t even keep my features straight. However, I confess to enjoying these foolish posts where all I do is blather on for a while.

I’m afraid she’s not that into him.

I put in a romantic picture: the monster demands a mate, according to the movie advertising. Sadly, in the movie the match does not work out. Oh dear, should I have prefaced that with a spoiler alert?

Her outfit in the movie was less sexy.

Here is more Bride of Frankenstein art work from my Media Library. I should have had a bridal gown like that, although my figure was never quite that flawless.

But I wanted to give up around four this morning.

It is increasingly clear that I have little of substance to say. Full disclosure: I already had that glass of wine. I have been rejoicing that I only have a three day week (oh do not try to shame me, any of you who do not; I have been there, in fact, I just worked two six day weeks, so shut up already!). And I just realized: one down, two to go! Happy Monday, everyone!

Wrist to Forehead Monstrous Monday?

My plans for a better blog post will not come to fruition tonight. Instead I am going to make another Monstrous Monday Post and go to sleep. I hope. Hope to sleep, that is. Insomnia is ever my nighttime companion, but never mind that now. Let me try to fine some monster pictures I have not shared recently.

She is traumatized that I cannot make a decent blog post.

Here is Bonita, more naked than usual but sporting some elegant accessories. She is striking a wrist to forehead pose. This is how I swoon when I am feeling particularly dramatic, although I believe the proper way to do it is on a chaise lounge.

He looks pretty cheerful for not being a morning person.

Here is another monster from our personal collection. I have been using that mug a lot lately but have not seen the vampire. We did not bring all our Halloween decorations down from the attic.

I fear this will be a short post as my tiredness threatens to overcome me. Yes, I will soon be making a dramatic pose like Bonita’s. Anyways, happy Monday, all.

How Useful Must a Blog Post Be?

Oh, I am tired. I know, lots of people are tired. I am sure lots of them have done a lot more than I did today, probably smarter, better, more useful and productive things than me. Where was I going with this? Quick, throw in a picture.

I didn’t have a Monstrous Monday; is it too late for Mid-Week Monsters? I like monsters.

Sometimes I wish I was invisible. Then other times feel like I am. Perhaps some of you have had similar experiences.

I am really feeling sad about not being able to put captions on my pictures. I also feel a little stupid, because I feel sure other bloggers do not have such problems. In any case, this post is not the thrill I was hoping for. I think I will slap on a silly headline, call it Non-Sequitur Thursday, hit Publish, and drive on.
