First World Problems on Wayback Wednesday

I got out of the house and ran some errands today but, alas, did not take any pictures.  In my defense, my errands were not that exciting in nature.  Also, gimping around on crutches with a bag that may come crashing off my shoulder at any minute is not especially conducive to photographic activities. On the brighter side, I am filled with gratitude and good feelings about humanity.  People at every stop went out of their way to hold doors open for me and had no problems waiting for me while I fumbled with said bag, looking for cash, ID, or whatever.  My only problem now is what to blog about.  I suppose that comes under the heading First World Problems.

Look how cute he is!

I go for a Wayback Wednesday post with a picture from 2017.  This is my late, dearly missed husband Steven outside the library in Arlington, VT.  We were on a visit to his family and were leaching on the library’s WiFi, a most convenient thing to do when one has a laptop, as opposed to the dining-room-table-top it eventually became (oh, here is a handy thing: my Chromebook automatically put in the hyphens which I meant to add after typing in the words with no spaces.  Sometimes technology works in my favor!).

I must do some deck-sitting again.

Here is a shot from 2020,  You can see Steve’s leg on the left.  The sandals I am wearing have sadly broken, and my deck is far from sitting-ready.  That is something I must work on.  However, my leg seems to be tolerating more movement lately, so perhaps I will attempt some chores around the house (preview of coming attractions).  Will chores be blog-worthy?  We shall see.  As always, I hope you will stay tuned.

I Voted, I Blogged, I’m Tired

I do not know why this should be a Tired Tuesday.  I did very little today and accomplished almost nothing.  Perhaps it is reaction from my busy weekend, going places in cars then having an MRI on Monday (oops, possible HIPAA violation), then more riding in cars. Of course I am very grateful for the rides.  But never mind all that.  I need to make a blog post.

I mark the occasion.

Today was Primary Day and I voted.  I know, the last time I voted I took a selfie with my “I Voted” sticker.  I meant to do that today but when I got home from voting, I felt singularly deprived of oomph.  In fact, I started making this post on my phone, because I did not even feel I could sit up and reach for my Chromebook.  However, I managed it.  I wanted to continue the post I started, but the only option available to me was “Quick Edit,” which I do not know how to navigate.  Enough of my blogging problems.

This was the first time I drove anywhere since June 4, when I paid my water bill and ate at Yetty’s.  It was perfectly fine driving.  Then I walked carefully on crutches into the VFW to vote.  The fellow there gave me two stickers, because they had two kinds.  I felt I deserved two, since it had taken such an effort to get there.  I know, I know, other people expend much more effort.  I am reminded of the story of the Iraqi grandmother who was pushed I-forget-how-many miles in a wheelbarrow (but it was a lot) so she could vote.  And I don’t think they have very good roads in Iraq.

Arriving home, I put my stickers in the TV Journal.  I took a picture, because I feel I am overusing my Media Library lately.  On the brighter side, I drove myself somewhere.  I can drive myself someplace else, I am sure.  Can Mohawk Valley Adventures be far away?

Past Views and Maybe a Preview

I did say I was going to have a Throwback Thursday Post today, which will make a nice change from whining about how I can’t have any Mohawk Valley Adventures these days.  I guess if I really wanted to give my readers a break, I would not even have mentioned it.  What am I, always fishing for sympathy?  Just ignore me.

Flowers for Cynthia?

A shot from my container garden of 2017.  I do not entirely despair of having a container garden this year, because there is no point in giving in to despair.  We do what we can do, after all.

Play ball!

Now there is something I have not done in years:  Go to a Diamond Dawgs baseball game in Little Falls, NY.  It seems every year I say I am going to go to a game, and every year I wimp out.  I don’t mind doing many things by myself, but it really is more fun to go to a game with a group of friends.

Look at all those blooms!

Here is my rhododendron in 2019.  You can see all the forget-me-nots at the bottom.  At least there are some blossoms in my year, although I am not able to go outside and get any pictures today (oh dear, there I go again, alluding to my stupid problems).

I love music!

Something else I have not done in a long time is go to hear music at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort.  This is Matt Grainger in 2021.

I hope this post turns out to be a Preview of Coming Attractions as well as a Throwback Thursday.  Container gardens, baseball games, local music, these are all things I would like to get back to.  Will I be able to? If so, how soon?  I like to say a little uncertainty adds interest to my Thursday.  In this case, I confess I would prefer to get my interest elsewhere, but I must not get back to whining again.  At least I have made a blog post of over 300 words.  Yay me?

I’m Really Lame This Time!

Hello, and welcome to yet another Lame Post Friday blog post.  My challenge today is to blog for at least 200 words without whining.  Regular readers know how difficult this will be for a big fat baby brat like me. I say it is good to challenge yourself.  I think my Media Library can help me now.

Herman looks a little worried.

Dracula’s House of Halloween is a fun Facebook page I follow.  Full disclosure:  it does not matter too much to me that today is Friday.  I do not intend to go to Happy Hour, and ever since I quit my day job (against all advice) (you know how people love to say, “Don’t quit your day job!”  I hate it when people do that), it does not matter a great deal what day it is.  However, I do have the television on at a mere one in the afternoon.  I usually do not indulge in television till evening.  I feel like a lady of leisure.

Oh, yeah, music!

I believe this is the Play It Again Band at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY.  Last night Matt Grainger was playing there.  I was really sorry I could not take a drive over there and enjoy, but felt unable to do so (long story, not very interesting).  I would really like to get out and take in the local music scene more often, as I used to do (preview of coming attractions?).

The neighbors’ azaleas.

I end with some flowers to cheer myself up.  This bush is located a few houses down from me, where I do not think anybody currently resides.  I hope somebody moves in soon. I do not like to see empty houses.  They might rot, or become zombie properties.  I don’t care for zombies.

I see that I approach 300 words, with a minimum of whining.  I am short on the random observations and half-baked philosophy in which I usually indulge on Lame Post Friday, but I trust my post is sufficiently lame and at least mildly entertaining.  Happy Friday, everyone.

Mondays Are Murder

I resort to a Monstrous Monday post, as I am short on Mohawk Valley Adventures.  Well, I did participate in A Revolutionary Murder Morning Star Methodist Church in Ilion, NY on Saturday, but I did not get any pictures.  I felt quite exhausted by the end of the evening, then I could not sleep, because I had drunk two cups of coffee to help me get through the evening.  Well, that is more than enough whining. On with the blog post.

Here’s a monster for you!

This is pretty much how I felt and feel, and yes, I am laughing at myself.  As I say, it’s not always easy being me, but it is usually entertaining.  This is me at the tail end of our performance of A Revolutionary Murder at Herkimer Elks Lodge in April to benefit Herkimer County Historical Society.  I played the evil Amaretta VonSchnapps, who perished in an accident involving a cannon.  We thought it would be funny if I showed up at the end looking “cannonized.”

The picture was taken by an Elk friend who Facebook messaged it to me, and I was able to download it to my Chromebook.  I have not yet figured out how to steal pictures directly from Facebook for blogging purposes, so I cannot show you a “Before” picture of Amaretta, nor any any of my fellow cast members.  As regular readers know, technology eludes me. Perhaps I could move to another device (preview of coming attractions).

For right now, however, I see I am over 200 words.  I say that is good enough for a Monday.  I must strive to get some things done while yet recruiting enough energy to cover an important Herkimer Town Board meeting this evening (regular readers may remember my side hustle freelancing for Sentinel Media).  I hope you all have a delightful Monday.

Not Too Tired to Jump Around

I’m afraid today is going to be a Tired Tuesday post.  My over-60 body has betrayed me yet again (oh, shut up all you over-70 and over-80 bodies; I KNOW you are older and I have something to look forward to!).  I still have a few pictures of Mohawk Valley Adventures to blog about, but my cell phone is across the room charging, and I cannot possibly go over there and upload pictures to my Media Library.  How lame does that sound?  Am I sure it is not Lame Post Friday?  And so I laugh at myself.

Where I may be soon.

I thought a picture of me supine behind a chaise lounge with only a sweet pair of mules sticking out would be a good depiction of how I feel this afternoon.  However, that guilty-looking guy moving the suitcase out is less appropriate.  Nobody has just strangled me is what I am saying.  I swoon from my own lack of oomph.  Regular readers may recognize that as a rehearsal shot from Prescription: Murder at Ilion Little Theatre last year.

Good place to get jewelry.

Here is a Preview of Coming Attractions. I missed it, but today was the Grand Re-Opening of Weisser’s Jewelers.  The picture shows the location where they have been since the building next to theirs met with an unfortunate end.  They are finally able to move back into their original location.  I must go there and purchase some jewelry.  I do not especially need any new jewelry, but the beauty part of jewelry is that it is small.  I do not have to search for space in my messy house for it.

So this is my blog post. I guess it jumped around a little. Once again, I thank you for tuning in.

Pre-Crawl Post

No, not a Pub Crawl, although anybody who knows me might be forgiven for thinking so.  I am about to embark on Herkimer’s Spring Shop Crawl.  We get to go around to participating businesses and check them out.  Many are running specials for the day. In any case, I will get to say hello to my favorites and hopefully discover some new places for shopping and blogging purposes.

Can’t wait to stop here!

The event is hosted by To Niche Their Own and Renewed and Rescued. Renewed and Rescued is a long-time favorite of mine, and To Niche Their Own has been a favorite since I discovered them.

And if I get hungry along the way.

I just scrolled down the Facebook Event’s Discussion and looked for other participants whose picture I might have in my Media Library, and here is Paradise Eatery.  I am charging my phone in hopes of taking pictures at each stop. This may be good for days and days of blog posts!

I see Herkimer College (known to locals as HCCC or “H-trip-C”) is also sponsoring a vendor fair.  I intend to walk during my initial foray into the Crawl, but I may return home for my car to check out what’s up the hill (YES, I try to run up the hill on a regular basis, but that is not the same thing, surely you can see that) (and I will call you Shirley if I decide to).

Well, time, as they say, is a-wasting.  I need to get crawling and shopping.  I encourage any local readers to check out the Spring Shop Crawl.  All others may tune in later for blog posts about same.

Where Have I Been? Where May I Go?

With apologies for missing my Wednesday blog post, I attempt another Throwback Thursday.  I have done a few things this morning, not many of course:  took a mile and a half walk, met friends for breakfast, talked to my parents, met with a contractor (long story, not very interesting)… OK, I have not done much.  I have a hair and toenail appointment this afternoon and a murder mystery rehearsal this evening (preview of coming attractions).  I certainly hope I remember to take a couple of pictures at rehearsal for a Post-Rehearsal Post.

Now what did I do with that little silver purse?

This is a picture of my bestie Kim and me at a Prohibition Party at Gerber’s 1933 Tavern in Utica, NY.  I actually have some better 1920s outfits now, and I am always hoping to add more. Note to self:  make the next murder mystery a 1920s theme.  I thought I would throw back to businesses previously visited, but of course I cannot get away from my theatrical (not to say drama queen) nature.

Cheers to a Cute Little Blonde!

Here is a local business I need to return to soon, Heelpath Brewing in Frankfort.  The Cute Little Blonde mentioned in the caption refers to the wine Kim is drinking, from Rustic Ridge Winery in Burlington Flats.  That would be more of a drive for me to visit, but it is a delightful place.

The bunnies were still there last week!

Now here is a place I have been recently and intend to return to today: Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, NY.  I go for their weekly tastings, for a naughty sip and some pleasant conversation.  I must see what they are tasting today.

I have cheered myself up, thinking of these places I have been to and can go to again.  I miss my Kim, who has moved halfway across the country, but perhaps she will return for a visit sometime.  In the meantime, there is no reason I cannot enjoy some Mohawk Valley Adventures with other friends or even on my own.

Ah, Murder In Springtime!

I have been at the Herkimer County Historical Society twice in the last two days concerning the next murder mystery, A Revolutionary Murder, which will be presented on Saturday, April 25 to benefit the Historical Society. I thought I might give a little teaser about that.

Wednesday when I stopped by, it was for dramatic purposes.  Without going into too much detail, a character reports that a cell phone was blown clear and landed in a bush.  In fiction (and probably real life too, but I don’t know too much about that), it is nice to be exact. Not just “a bush” but “an azalea bush” or “a hydrangea bush.”  So I stopped to ask what kind of bush grows around the historical society.

Oh, no, not that kind of bush!

I guess by two weeks from now the bushes will not really be that far along, but I hardly think the audience will call me out on that.  Several bushes that will be there as spring and summer wear on, and I think I am going to settle on Bleeding Heart, just for the reference to blood (you should see the fliers!) (which you can see on the Historical Society’s Facebook page).

Aren’t they cute?

Yesterday I stopped by to see if they had some tickets I could bring to the Elks Lodge, in case any members wanted to purchase them.  On the way out, I took the two pictures I just used as illustrations.  I mostly took them because I tend to take pictures of everything I see growing.  I try not to let winter drag me down, but oh, do I love the rebirth of spring!

Funny to be enjoying rebirth when I am about to kill somebody off for fun and non-profit, but so it is.  A Revolutionary Murder will be presented Saturday, April 25 at the Herkimer Elks Lodge, 124 Mary St., Herkimer, NY, doors open at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m.  Tickets are $45 for individuals, $80 per couple, available at the Historical Society, 315-866-6413.

Where’s Vincent Price When You Need Him?

I’m afraid this is going to be something of a Slacker Sunday blog post. I will soon be celebrating Easter Sunday with some of my family and want to get the blog post made before I forget to do so, as is apt to happen on a Sunday.  Or any other day.

Preview of Coming Attractions?

I was actually looking for the picture of Vincent Price as Egghead from the Batman TV series, only the egg he is holding is painted Easter colors.  I know it is in my Media Library somewhere, but I cannot spend all day looking for it.  Instead I share this “before” picture of plants purchased for my container garden on my deck one year.  I have not had a good container garden in years.  Will 2026 be the year it returns?  I can hope.

Oh, just shoot me!

I could not find another picture at all appropriate, but there could be no possible objection to Bette Davis.  After we saw this movie for the first time, when we lived in Georgia, I wrote my mother a letter where I was talking about it. How Bette Davis killed this guy and it was self defense, only she had written this letter to him that proved it was not and she had to buy back the letter, etc., but I could not remember the name of the film.  My husband Steven wrote in the margin, “It was The Letter.”  We were both pretty amused.

There he is!

Here’s Vincent Price!  I think I have another picture of him somewhere, but this one will totally do.  I hope you are all having a lovely Easter if you celebrate, and a lovely Sunday if you do not.
