Fun Saturday, Late Post

Once again I went to bed last night before making my Scattered Saturday Post. In my defense… I have no defense.  It was a pretty good Saturday, beginning with a run and ending with movies.  In between, friends, fun, and a little bit of wine.

It doesn’t look so steep in the picture.

I mentioned in my late Lame Post Friday post that I ran up College Hill.  I share this picture taken in April 2020 to add interest to the post.

One of my favorite places.

How serendipitous! This picture of Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer was also in April 2020.  I met my friends Jim and Kim there for lunch.

Jim gets all the girls.

I did not realize I had two pictures like this.  The lady on the left is Jim’s late, dearly missed wife, Phyllis.  It was a running joke in our group that Kim was Jim’s other wife, because she played his trophy wife in a murder mystery once.  I was looking for a picture of this pose taken at Salvatore’s, but I guess one taken at the End Zone Pub will do.

I haven’t had a good hot bath in a long time.

After lunch, Kim and I visited the Wine Tasting Room at the Raindrops on Roses Bed and Breakfast.  The place used to be known as the Bellinger Rose, hence this tub I took a picture of.

Back home I watched a couple of movies. I would look for pictures and talk about them, but I see I am over 200 words, and I do not want the post to run long.  For one reason, I have to get on with my Sunday.  I hope I don’t make today’s post late, but no promises.

The Post Is Certainly Scattered

I was all set to do a Scattered Saturday Post, but I guess I was too scatterbrained to actually do it on Saturday.  My bad.

It was not a super good day for me.  I started out having problems with my cable.  Instead of going on a run, I got some exercise by attempting to shovel my driveway.  In this I was helped by an anonymous neighbor who snowblew the end, a path to the front steps, and the walk in front of the house.  So that was a very nice thing.

The cable problem wasn’t complete frustration, either.  They were actually able to send a tech on a Saturday morning, he showed up when they said he was, and he was very nice and helpful.  I only have trouble feeling grateful for it now, though, because I got up this morning to the same damn problem!  It must be operator error, because the guy gave me a new cable box and replaced some outside wire.  I talked to a guy on the phone this morning who concluded that an inside wire is to blame.  He is sending me a replacement, but I can also drive to New Hartford, NY, and pick one up for free.  That way I will not have to wait and will have a spare in case it happens again.

I Don’t Know About My Saturday, But This Post Is Certainly Scattered.

I just typed that into the title bar then realized it was far too long for a title.  Under the heading Waste Not Want Not, I copied and pasted it here.  Now I am too lazy to change the capital letters to lowercase (but apparently not too lazy to spell out “capital letters” when the rest of the world just says “caps”).

Anyways, the rest of my Saturday was spent with my friend, Kim. She met me at the End Zone Pub, where I had gone after  I walked my post cards to the post office (that makes it sound like the post cards walked too, like they were my pets that needed exersise).  We enjoyed a libation, and I took a picture, since I had it in mind to do a Scattered Saturday Post.

They posed and approved the shot.

Next Kim took me to my house to pick up an afghan to donate to the HALO Chinese Auction, which was being set up at the Mohawk American Legion.  We stopped on the way to the Legion at Mohawk Antiques Mall to pick up a copy of Mohawk Valley Living magazine.

Lots of good prizes to try for!

Local readers, if you see this in time, I encourage you to go to the auction.  It is today, Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Easier the trying to type in the info. Did I mention I was lazy?

Still Scattered, Still Saturday!

I am going to make a fast Scattered Saturday Post and get back to enjoying my evening.  Maybe with another glass of wine.

I went for a run earlier this morning and eventually made my Lame Post Friday post.  More importantly, I wrote out a few post cards to send.  Regular readers know I like to send out a few postcards every week to folks who might need a pick-me-up.  I have not sent any for the past two weeks, so I felt happy to do so again.

I throw in a picture of the post office, just to add an illustration.

When I went to mail the post cards, I went on to Little Falls, NY, because I had to drop off a couple of catalogues I had borrowed from Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremation.  Since this brought me past the turn-off to Dolgeville, I decided to visit Dolgville on my way back.

In Dolgeville I stopped at Stella’s Styles, a delightful consignment store I have been at before.  Alas, once there I felt disinclined to purchase anything, although I did see a  couple of fancy evevening bags I coveted.

Shortly after returning home, I joined my friend Kim for a tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  Three Brothers Winery in the Finger Lakes, yes!  After the tasting, we stopped at the Waterfront Grille for a full glass of wine.

Back home, I made some popcorn and watched as episode of Svengoolie on DVR.

It was Godzilla on Svengoolie.

I must decide what to watch next, but for right now I feel perhaps disproportionately pleased with myself for making my Saturday blog post on Saturday.   Hey, I gotta take my  wins where I can.

Shakespeare? Scattered? At Least It’s Saturday

I think it is the whole cast!

I was about to try to make my Scattered Saturday Post when my friend Kim sent me this picture from Love’s Labour’s Lost that I had not used yet. Obviously I was forced to share it.

Yes, I am still recovering from my experiences putting on a Shakespeare play.  I have still managed to have a fairly enjoyable weekend.  I took a longish walk Friday and a long walk Saturday.  I patronized a few local businesses.

One stop I made on Saturday was at Rose Quartz Stand on Mohawk Street in .Herkimer,  NY.  I purchased a little stone animal for my collection.  My collection sits around the boxes which hold the ashes of our two sadly departed dogs.  I feel happy to add to the collection periodically.

I also stopped at Mohawk Village Market and the Polish Community Home.  I did not take pictures at either place. In fact, the picture shared above is from an earlier visit to Rose Quartz Stand.

Full disclosure:  I have had a bit to drink and am not quite up to making a proper blog post.  In my defense,  I am of age and I am not driving.  This has been my defense for many things for many years.  It’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

Scatterbrained, Not Scattered Saturday

I am very tired, but I will attempt to make some semblance of a blog post before I turn off the light and wish I could sleep. It will not be a Scattered Saturday post, unfortunately, because there was not much scatter to my Saturday.

I mentioned this morning (in my late Lame Post Friday post, in case you missed it) that I went for a two mile walk. After that I did battle with a migraine, even as I ran to the store on a fruitless errand. At least the migraine went away, although it may have been a sinus headache. Either way, I felt very grateful it left. Then I ran to the store again, this time meeting with some measure of success.

Oh dear, am I being too mysterious about my store trips? I went to two large chain stores, not the kind of local, distinctive businesses I like to plug. Also, it was a little silly how I got to dithering over potato chips. Long story, not very interesting.

The highlight of the day was my sister Cheryl’s birthday party. Never mind how old she is; these things are not important. Only I chuckle to myself when I remember how many years ago she was happy to point out to me that she was really almost two years older than me, not one as I always thought. Now I say we are the same age: middle.

I see I have babbled on for some 250 words. I say, Score! And I hope to see you all again on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Martin Landau, Can You Help Me Now?

Another day, another late post. These things happen, at least to me. No matter. I will attempt to write something worth reading, then attempt it again later today so I will be caught up.

Unfortunately I did not take any pictures at the Mind Twist Media Arts and Entertainment Expo yesterday. My friend, Kim and I dressed up and promoted Ilion Little Theatre. There were other vendors there, some musical entertainment, and a magician. Unfortunately, it was not very well attended. However, those who were there enjoyed it. The representative of Mind Twist I talked to said they would probably try for a date in May next year.

After the expo, Kim and I were quite relieved to get out of our costumes and into comfy shorts. We went to Lombardo’s Pizzeria Plus in Ilion, NY, for some food and wine. We split an order of chicken wings and an appetizer sampler. I really should avoid deep-fried food, but as I often observe, I can’t always do the right thing.

Back home, I relaxed with my husband, Steven. We watched Ed Wood. I had been thinking about that movie since I mentioned Martin Landau in my Friday/Saturday post (perhaps you read it).

So this is my Scattered Saturday Post, a day late. I say to myself, “Now that wasn’t so hard, was it? Why didn’t you do it yesterday?” And then, with thanks to S.J. Perelman, I explain, “Shut up.”

Where Was I on Saturday?

So I missed Thursday, posted lame on Friday, then missed Saturday. Right down the line, I did better earlier in the week than later. Not that I did so hot earlier last week, now that I think about it. I guess I have set the bar for myself kind of low.

Anyways, here I am, lounged on my couch on Sunday morning, pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus, trying to make some post, any post, for reasons I feel unable to articulate.

Yesterday (Saturday), I went for a walk, since I still feel unable to run. Later, our friend Kim picked up Steve and me, and we went to the Pride festivities in Little Falls, NY. We enjoyed some musical performances from a few fabulously dressed Queens, and I purchased a rainbow fan.

Then we adjourned to Rock Valley Brewing, where we ordered drinks. After dithering with my phone for a few minutes, I just walked over to Mangia Macrina’s to get a wood-fired pizza. Previously I have ordered by text, but yesterday I was so indecisive, I thought in-person was a better way to go.

Returning to Herkimer, I remembered that there was a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquors, so we made a quick stop. I love wine tastings.

I realize that I could easily have made a Scattered Saturday Post when we got home. Instead, I watched a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie. In my defense, Vincent Price.

So here is my Saturday post, posted Sunday morning. Will I make my Sunday post on Sunday? A little suspense adds interest to my day.

Sluggish, Stupid Saturday

I pick up my Tablet to make a Scattered Saturday Post, purely because I do not want to go a day without posting (counting the post I made this morning as yesterday’s), and I log on to WordPress to find that my last post got NO blogger love. I am such a Like junky, I find this rather devastating. But I tell myself it is a First World Problem and drive on.

There is not a whole lot to tell about my Saturday anyways. I mentioned earlier that I did not run. I had a headache so took a pill with a decongestant and pain reliever, and it made me feel rather sluggish. I was about to add that it made me feel stupid, but I have been feeling that pretty much all the time. Make whatever unkind remarks you like about me being stupid. There may be a joke there somewhere, but I am too tired to find it.

I did see my friend, Kim. We had lunch at Asteroga Ale House in Herkimer, NY. We went on to Pete’s Tavern for a drink but only stayed for one. Back home, my headache went away (finally) but I fear it is coming back. The sluggish, stupid feeling never left.

On the brighter side, I see I am over 200 words. I’m going to call that a win and go for a better blog tomorrow. As always, I hope you’ll tune in.

Oh Crap, I Can’t Think of a Title!

I am thinking I could have made a better title for yesterday’s blog post. “Alliterations Aren’t All …” OK, maybe not. However, right now I can make a Scattered Saturday Post. Or can I?

I worked this morning. That is not blogworthy. After work, we went to the dollar store for a few fun accessories. That, too, is not particularly blogworthy. Next, however, we went to Ilion Little Theatre for a meet and greet with Santa Claus.

A fine Santa Claus.

I must make a full blog post about that. We also visited Ilion Wine and Spirits, and Valley Wine and Liquor. There was a tasting at the latter.

Adirondack Winery. Yum!

Later we stopped for a libation at End Zone in Herkimer, NY. We just tried to watch a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie, but I fear I did not pay much attention.

Can I make my make-up look like that?

I am not up to 200 words (my ridiculous autocorrect wants to say “00” as if ANYBODY can’t make a blog post of 00 words!). However, I am posting on Saturday, which I am not always able to do. I shall consider that a win.

It is almost 200 words, yes.

A Busy Saturday So Far

I pause in my activities to make a Scattered Saturday Post. Check it out: I am making a Saturday Post ON Saturday!

We got up stupidly early as usual (not as early as when I work, but still, you would think I could sleep in once in a while). I went for a short run, wrote a few post cards, called my Mom and Dad, all the usual stuff. Then Steve and I set out on a few minor adventures.

First we went to Collis Hardware in Herkimer, NY. We dropped off a basement window frame to have plexiglass put in it. I am embarrassed to tell you how long we have been putting this off, so I will keep that bit of information to myself.

They were very nice there.

Next we went a little ways up the street to Mohawk Valley Community Market. We spent some time looking at the various vendors.

Renewed and Rescued is the store that started the Market.

I asked if I could take a picture of the staff, because they looked so cute in their Halloween costumes.

They graciously posed.

After that we were feeling peckish so went to Honey Brook Bakery for a treat.

After a brief interlude at home, eating our treats, we drove to Ilion. First we went up Otsego Street so I could show Steve some of the great yard decorations I have been enjoying on my way home from work. Then we went to the Thrift Store in search of materials for our Halloween costumes.

Our last stop was at New 2 You Consignments, where I scored a baggy of bead necklaces. They may not be right for my Halloween costume, but then again, I may stretch a point.

We are now relaxing at home, but soon we will begin getting ready for a Halloween party at the Frankfort American Legion, featuring our favorite band The Posers. Yay!
