First Rule: Make a Blog Post

I have somehow made it halfway through the week and, oh dear, not a whole lot done.  Then again, what is the rule for how much a crazy old lady is supposed to get done, and who sets these rules anyways?  There are always my rules for me, such as Any Writing Counts, but I do not remember setting a rule for How Much Should Get Done.  Note to self:  Set rule about how much should get done.  Or don’t.

Where was I?

Ain’t nobody here but us chickens!

I threw in a picture to distract from the fact that I have not much to say (I bet you thought I was going to say “to pep things up”) (you know who you are).  As I chose the chicken (yes, CHOSE the chicken, kindly do not get vulgar, this is a family blog!) (again, you know who you are), I thought to myself that it is too early for a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.  Then again, that is another Cindy-made rule.  There are no penalties for transgressions.

He loves me, he loves me not…

I found this picture in May 2023 of my Media Library.  I was thinking of mowing down or trying to move my wild daisies this year.  They get a little out of control and completely overshadow the forget-me-nots and lilies of the valley.  They are not very far along so far, but I guess it is early days yet.  I have not bestirred myself to do much outside yet.  The first thing I need to do is to get my lawnmower looked at. I seem to remember indulging in No Mow May last year.  They say it is good for the environment, but for me it was a handy excuse to be lazy (judge me if you are so inclined).

I see I have babbled on for over 300 words.  I shall bill this as a Wuss-out Wednesday and drive on.  I shall be out and about today and try for some Mohawk Valley Adventures.  I hope you are all having a lovely week.

Monstrous Memories on a Late Wuss-Out Wednesday Post

Well I wussed out on Wednesday and failed to make a blog post.  In my defense… my defense is too long and boring to share. Instead I will make a late  Mid-Week Monsters post and try for a Non-Sequitur or other Thursday post later in the day.  It is not super early for me, but it is prior to 7 a.m. which is considered early by many.

Extra points for crazy eyes.

How about me and a monster, qualifying this as a Wayback Wednesday post as well.  This was from October 2020, when we were all trying to recover from the COVID lock-down.  I was pursuing a challenge of exercising for 34 minutes 34 days in a row to call attention to 34 million Americans who suffer from diabetes.  Part of the challenge was to post a selfie every day and talk about the challenge.  Naturally I included friends.

It’s Mookie Wilson!

I was so taken by that selfie, I make bold to share another one.  I talked about Mookie Wilson the bat in a recent blog post.  If I can find it I will make a ping back to it.

I don’t want Bonaparte to feel left out!

And one more, just to make it three pictures.  I have been having a little trouble running and walking this past week, but I will not share my woes with you yet (key word being yet; I cannot always refrain from whining).  In the meantime, I have achieved over 200 words, my first, and perhaps only accomplishment of the day.  Once again, I thank you for tuning in.

Pre-Breakfast Post

I wussed out on Wednesday, not making my post till Thursday morning.  I’m thinking nobody is surprised, least of all me.  Now I am typing in haste (ten-finger typing, which is my usual thing these days), because I am meeting my Elks friends at Ann Street Deli in Little Falls, NY for breakfast.  I am hungry!  And I could use some coffee or tea.

Great for breakfast and lunch!

I easily found this picture in my Media Library.  I took it the last time we had breakfast there.  Note the crappy lump of snow in front.  The snow that is left looks crappy and dirty, and I for one am hoping no more falls to whiten it up.  However, Mother Nature rarely takes any of our hopes under advisement.

Yesterday was supposed to be the last warm day for a while, so I took advantage of the bare roads and sidewalks for a run.  I actually managed to stay on the sidewalks for most of the time, which is what I prefer to do.  You can’t count on cars slowing down.  Later on, when I took a walk, it was raining.  I had to walk down State Street, or Route 5 as it is more commonly known.  The sidewalks were muddy, and cars zoomed through the puddles, splashing wherever it landed.  Humph.  Just my little complaint of the day.  Don’t mind me.

My plans for today are to clean my house and perhaps do a Throwback Thursday blog post.  I need to write the conclusion for my murder mystery, which begins rehearsals Sunday (preview of coming attractions).  But I feel pleased I have done a blog post today of over 250 words.  250 entertaining words?  My dear readers are the judge of that.

But Truman Capote Didn’t Shovel the Driveway

I did venture from my house on Tuesday but did not take any pictures.  Today I have further adventures in mind, but I spent a certain amount of time shoveling my driveway and did take a couple pictures, so I will do a Pre-Adventure Snow Shoveling post.  I guess that is not a regular feature for Mohawk Valley Girl but I beg you will bear with me.

Monday, of course, was the terrible day of shoveling, with the snow all the way up to my bumper.  The bottom of the bumper, but still.  I am just a  crazy old lady with very few muscles.  I shoveled in two parts Monday.  Today I hoped to accomplish it in one.  Really, there was a lot less snow and most of it was at the bottom of the driveway where the plow had pushed it (I know they do not do these things on purpose).  I huffed and puffed and got it done, lamenting that the road is becoming narrower and narrower as the snow banks pile up.

White on white makes it a little hard to see.

The sidewalk plow had gone by at some point, but more snow had fallen, so I attempted to make a shovel’s width, which I consider the Reasonable Man Standard (an insurance guy taught me that expression).  I wanted to take a picture of what a lousy job I did on the driveway, but I was not sure it really showed.

I ponder my experience.

I took a selfie for entertainment purposes.  Also because my Melfi’s hat gives a shout-out to a local business.  Melfi’s shoes in Mohawk, NY is where I used to get my work shoes, when I used to work.  Now I am one of those people who Just Don’t Want to Work.  You can be polite and say I am retired.  I know I am lazy.

Apparently I was not too lazy to make a blog post of over 300 words (oh yeah, like sitting here typing is such an effort) (as Truman Capote once said, that’s not writing, that’s typing).  Now I must rouse myself further and try for a Mohawk Valley adventure.  We’ll see how I do.

Not Well on Wednesday

It is a Blogger’s Sick Day.  One reason I am making the post is that it makes me sit up and drink water.  I spent most of the day in bed, trying to sleep, so have become dehydrated. I must say this cool water tastes wonderful.

No, no! Only water today! Maybe a little tea.

I thought I should throw in a picture to pep things up.  It was really an inconvenient day to get sick.  I was supposed to meet some friends for lunch, and tonight is the Elks Club meeting.  I have missed the last few meetings and meant to go.

Tea in my new mug. And maybe try a little more writing.

One thing I did this morning was heat up the neck pillow my sister Cheryl gave me for Christmas.  It is from Irish Dreams Cookies: Cookies, Accessories, Apparel.  They are based in Waterville, just to give a should-out to an area business.

The problem with being sick is that pretty much all you can do is sit around and feel sick.  How boring!  And how boring to blog about it!  I guess I’ll call this a Wuss-Out Wednesday and drive on.  Once again, I thank you for tuning in.

Pre-Caffeine Christmas Eve Post

I messed up my streak again, being too tired to post on Tuesday.  Now it is Christmas Eve, and I have a few things left to do before the festivities begin, and I cannot decide between tea and coffee.  Coffee has more caffeine, but tea is easier on my stomach.  I shall blog while I dither (who says I can’t multi-task?).

Christmas photo to denote passage of time while I put on water for tea.

Boris Karloff is the only Grinch for me.  I have some Frankenstein earrings I wear this time of year (actually I only wear one: it is a thing with me to wear three unmatching earrings).  A friend pointed out the wrong holiday, and I set her straight.  Boris Karloff, who famously played Frankenstein, narrated “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” as well as playing the Grinch.  She stood corrected but still teased me the next time she saw me wearing that earring.

There is a line in the song “The Man with the Bag” that goes, “If you’ve done everything you should, extra special good.”  This morning it played in my head as, “I’ve done a couple things I should. They were far from good.”  But I daresay I underestimate myself.  After all, nobody’s perfect.

See? He celebrates!

This was actually another random picture to denote the passage of time, this time while I checked if I actually turned on the burner under the tea kettle.  I had, and it was close enough to boiling (steam was coming out but the kettle was not whistling yet) that I poured my tea.  It is steeping as I type.

And I am well over 200 words.  I think I’ll bill this as a Wuss-out Wednesday and drive on.  Merry Christmas Eve to those who celebrate, and Happy Wednesday to those who do not!

Well, It’s Wednesday

I was afraid this would be a Wuss-out Wednesday, but here I am Wednesday evening, typing in a few words.  No promises that they will be particularly entertaining words, but we can’t have everything.  I had hoped to have a Waste Not Want Not Wednesday but found I do not have many pictures in my phone that I haven’t used.  I found two, so maybe this can be a Wussy Waste Not Want Not Wednesday.  It still has the charm of alliteration.

I kind of feel like that tree.

I took this picture a while ago when I was taking a walk.  The tree has since been nicely cut up and is being removed.  I am not sure which storm it came down during.  We have had a few.  I feel pretty grateful that I have not had much damage to my own property.  My yard has a few trees.  I would not care to have any of them fall on me.

I do like flowers.

This used to be a bank, but it has been closed for some time now.  I was pleased to see the flowers blooming so took a picture to cheer myself up.  I feel sad to see buildings sitting empty, but I am no entrepreneur to try to fill any of them.

I guess I need to be taking a few more pictures.  I would like to be having a few more Mohawk Valley Adventures but am a bit preoccupied with the play I am in (perhaps you read my blog posts about it).  Still, the blog must go on!  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

It Was a Melting Migraine

I thought I might have a real Wuss-out Wednesday post or maybe a Blogger’s Sick Day, as I spent the day with something of a migraine.  I hasten to add that my migraines are not as bad as what some people suffer, and I appreciate that.  I even made it through rehearsal tonight for the play I haven’t told you about yet (preview of coming attractions).  Now I am at home, still waiting for it to feel cooler inside (it was almost comfortable on my front porch, but I can hardly sleep out there), and wondering if I can get away with a Mid-Week Monsters post (here’s a Freudian typo:  I said Mid-Weed Monsters, as if I paused to make a blog post in the midst of doing lawn and garden work.  Wouldn’t that be ambitious of me?).

I know just how she feels.

Here’s the picture I was looking for yesterday!  It is appropriate on so many levels.  I am complaining about the heat, a wicked witch is a monster, and many people feel that I myself am a witch (they sometimes spell it with a b).

This may be true of a lot of us.

This speaks to my good intentions of doing a better blog post today than yesterday.  Once again I move that ambition on to tomorrow.  On the brighter side, at least I have posted for another day.  Once again, I thank you for tuning in.

Lightheaded Lawn Longings

I missed making my Tired Tuesday post and it looks as if I am having a real Wuss-out Wednesday today.  I have that light-headed thing going on.  It is not exactly a headache, although one neurologist told me it was migraine.  Well, it is tiresome to go on about my symptoms so I will stop.

Probably the best year for these.

I throw in a picture to pep things up.  This is the rhododendron in my back yard (wow, I seem to have spelled it right on the first try!) some years ago.  I don’t think it is blooming yet this year but I would need to go out back and check.  My back yard is not in such good shape these days, although I did manage to mow it once (perhaps you read my blog post about it).

And this was a good year for these flowers, whose name I have long forgotten.

I saw some leaves from this one when I mowed, and tried to avoid mowing them down.  They moved from where I first planted them. I do not know how, but I am nobody’s idea of a horticulturalist, or even much of a gardener.

I know I’ll have some daisies!

So I guess I am just sitting here with my head spinning thinking about the yard and garden I am not currently working on.  Maybe after a nice cup of tea I will feel better and do something useful.  In the meantime, at least I have made some semblance of a blog post.  Once again, I thank you for tuning in.

At Last! A Post-Rehearsal Post!

I had another rehearsal for Recipe for Murder Royale, the murder mystery we are doing to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society, tonight and remembered to take a few pictures!  They weren’t the best pictures, but one does what one can.

We rehearsed at Herkimer Elks Lodge.

The setting of the mystery is that we are a group of people putting together a new recipe book, a royal recipe book, with all the recipes tested by royalty.  Our money man is missing.  We do hope nothing has happened to him.

None of us know our lines yet.

We are putting on the murder mystery twice, once at the Elks to benefit the Historical Society, and once at Salisbury Grange to benefit them.  We rehearsed at the Elks because it is closer for all of us.

You can’t tell in this picture, but it is a dramatic moment.

Rehearsals are going pretty well. I think I have a great group of actors this time.  I almost always do.  There is a lot of talent in the Mohawk Valley!

This was actually the first picture I took.

I guess I don’t have too much to say so far.  Can we call this a Wuss-out Wednesday? I fear I am a little tired after my rehearsal.  As usual, I will try for a better blog post tomorrow.
