Do You Believe It’s the Same Old Monstrous Monday?

Hello and welcome to another Monstrous Monday Post.  I feel under  the heading New Year, New You, I should do something different, but the fact of the matter is, I am the same old me.   Mind you, I am not apologizing for that.  I think there is a lot to be said for the same old me.  I won’t say it, because it is unbecoming to toot one’s own horn (although I did once try a feature called Toot My Horn Tuesday).  Never mind all that.  How about some monsters?

I’m remembering all the times I’ve said, “Can you believe that guy?”

While not tooting my own horn, is it egotistical to say I believe in myself?  Two answers come to mind:  One, I have often said there are worse things than having an ego the size of Manhattan.  Two, what exactly do I believe?  I discount the second answer, because most people find it very annoying when you answer a question with a question.

If you’re cold, they’re cold! Let them in!

I veer off the subject of me with a shot of my favorite guy, Nosferatu.  He’s looking a little confused in this shot.  Maybe somebody just told him they don’t believe in vampires.  Or perhaps he was expecting window panes.

“It could be worse. It could be raining.”

I like to use three pictures so will close with this artistic shot from Frankenstein, complete with caption from Young Frankenstein.  Nothing wrong with mixing and matching monster movies, is there?

This gets me over 250 words.  Score!  I hope you’ll join the same old me tomorrow, when it might be Tired Tuesday.

I Wine a Little

I pause in my Friday relaxation to make my Friday Lame Post. Actually, my real relaxation has not fully started, because I was trapped in Scroll Down Facebook mode. I keep thinking I’ll see something good, and sometimes I do. My favorites are pictures of people’s pets and photos of classic monster movies.

I’m not wearing the tiara, but that is pretty much my silly grin.

I am doing that home COVID test: pour a glass of wine. Can you smell it? Taste it? If so, you’re good. Repeat as necessary or desired. The above picture was taken on my birthday. It was the first wine photo I came across in my Media Library.

How can you resist that face?

I repeat the photo of the adorable, sadly departed Bubbles, to illustrate my enjoyment of pictures of other people’s pets.

Portrait of a man obsessed.

To illustrate my enjoyment of old movie pictures, here is Vincent Price in House of Wax. Ah, but I said monster movies, didn’t I? Of course, one could argue that Price becomes a monster in this. It is part of his charm.

“I bid you welcome.”

Here is a real monster for you purists, Bela Lugosi as Dracula. I see I am over 200 words. I shall end this lame post, log out of Facebook, and watch Forensic Files with my husband (speaking of people who are monsters). Happy Friday, everyone!

I think he is cool.

So there I was, watching a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie when I decided I ought to make a Mid-Week Monsters post. And while I searched for a picture of Svengoolie, I missed some important plot points on the movie was currently watching. These things happen.

It would be nice to make a post about the movies I was previously and am currently watching. Please do not judge me because I am doing no such thing. Then again, go ahead and judge me if you are so inclined.

I don’t remember him having a wife, or even a girlfriend.

While scrolling through my Media Library, I found this image. I think this movie was featured on Svengoolie one week. I could be mistaken, of course. These things happen, no doubt.

Ooh, those eyes!

Having referenced Dracula’s daughter, I append what many consider the quintessential Dracula. Who am I to disagree?

How could I choose a favorite and hurt the others’ feelings?

I wanted to include one more picture and found this one. Perhaps I would have been better served by waiting till tomorrow to make today’s post. I am not the best judge of that. Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Mediocre but Macabre Monday Post

One of my new favorite guys.

I wanted a post with pictures, and I finally figured out how to get photos from Facebook to my blog via my Tablet.  I am so technologically inept.  No matter.  Here is Svengoolie to start off this week’s Monstrous Monday Post.  I only recently discovered Svengoolie,  and I am a big fan.  Also, I am quite envious.  What a great job!  I personally have made inferior career choices.  But let us not talk about me; let us get on with Monstrous Monday.

Regular readers know who my favorite is.

I stole this picture from Horror Movie Hedonists, one of my monster Facebook groups.  I spend a lot of time on Facebook looking at monster pictures.  I find them way more soothing than political posts.

Which is the real monster?

Here is a good movie with monsters of the human variety: Bedlam starring Boris Karloff.  I have this on on a DVD of two Karloff movies sent me by a friend.  I have been in the mood to see it again, but Steven does not share my love of the macabre (he appreciates murder and mayhem, just not to the same extent as me).

So this is my blog post for today. Full disclosure:  I am tired, not for any good reason, but these things happen.  Excuse the mediocre blog post and Happy Monday.

Will the Real Monster Please Stand Up?

I am going to make a fast Monstrous Monday post and not offer any excuses.  I hope.  In fact, a few little excuses may worm their way in, that is just how my mind works.  Never mind, let’s just fine a creature I have not shared recently.

I know, this is not a monster! Unless you ask Joan Crawford.

I was scrolling through my Media Library looking for a picture of Nosferatu when I came across this one.  This is the one I was looking for yesterday of Bette Davis in Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte.  Well, I think a psyco biddy in a graveyard is perfectly acceptable for Monstrous Monday.

“You were looking for me?”

Here’s my guy, Count Orlok.  Regular readers know Nosferatu is my favorite.  Full disclosure:  I do not pop the movie in very often, because I find it is too much effort to watch a silent movie.  You have to pay close attention, so it is not easy to knit at the time.

“What do you mean, Bette Davis isn’t a monster?”

I thought I would throw in another psycho, although I am not sure I would classify Joan Crawford as a biddy in Straitjacket.  What do my readers think?  Please express your opinions in the comment section.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words.  I’ll just close with one more monster picture. Happy Monday, everyone.

“Who are you calling a monster now?”

Shakespeare to Svengoolie to Julie

The Blogger’s Sick Days continue, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, although there is always the possibility that it is an oncoming train.  Be that as it may, I am sitting on my couch, watching a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie and hoping to make some semblance of a blog post.

Svengoolie is showing Creature of the Black Lagoon.

I have been feeling marginally better.  Whereas on Friday, my head was in pain, today it was more lightheaded.  Comforting myself with the fact that having been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours I was not contagious (although I believe sinus infections are not contagious to begin with),  I went to the second session of Brainstorming the Bard at Meeples Mug House in Little Falls.

We made a little more progress in our quest to bring Shakespeare back to Little Falls this summer.  I shall blog more about that later (ooh, here’s a Freudian typo: I first typed “bore” instead of “more”).

In the meantime,  how about a couple more pictures of the Creature?  I just love a good monster movie.

“You look a little different from your match.com picture.”

Julie Adams certainly was a lovely young lady.  She was so gracious to fans of this movie all her life.  I was very sad to hear when she passed away fairly recently.

And here she is in later years, still lovely and gracious.

I’m afraid this is not a particularly Scattered Saturday post.  Then again, my health, Shakespeare,  Svengoolie,  Julie Adams.  It will have to do.  Happy Saturday,  everyone!

Mid-Week Monster Movies

Do I have a feature called Mid-Week Movies?  Looking back, I see I have another post thus titled.  Anyways, we watched two movies tonight and since I got nuthin’ else, here goes.

Full disclosure: sometimes I feel like the Blob, or at least a blob.

I DVR’d The Blob sometime ago, as I usually do when I see it is on TCM.  It is one of our perennial favorites.   Since I am quite ready to begin the Halloween movie watching portion of our year, it was a good choice for tonight.  Oh, who am I kidding?  I am ready to watch Halloween movies at all times.

It’s scary!

To continue with the monster theme (ooh, could this post be Mid-Week Monsters? ), I suggested Little Shop of Horrors, by which I mean the original Roger Corman flick, NOT the musical.  Steven graciously agreed.  That was very nice of him, because in general he is not as big a fan of the cheesy stuff as I am.

My favorite character is Gravis Mushnick.

We are tired after our movie viewing and will probably go to bed soon.  I’m sorry this is not a more riveting description of the evening, but you’ll have that.  At least, with my blog you will.  I guess I’ll close with one more monster picture.

“You were looking for a monster?”

Naturally I wanted to use my favourite,  Nosferatu.  I may even watch that movie again soon.

So Many Monsters, So Little Time

How about a Monstrous Monday with new pictures?  I am just as tired as I can be and still type.  However, I poked around a couple of my favorite Facebook pages and found a few pics I like.  My theme is Cheesy Movies for Future Sunday Cinema.

Usually people complain about having a target on their back.

This is The Invisible Invaders (1959).  I found it on B-Movie Mania.  I won’t hazard a guess as to what is going on, but if I ever find the flick, I would like to write a blog post about it.

The other two I found on The Golden Age of Monster Movies.  That group is more about the classics than the cheese, but one man’s Oscar is another man’s Oh My God!  (I just made that expression up.  I don’t always resort to cliches, you know).

They say fish is brain food, but are our brains food for fish?

Lee Majors and Karen Black, how bad could it be?  Actually, I don’t quite remember who Karen Black is, but Lee Majors was The Fall Guy!  “Well I’m not the kind to kiss and tell, but I’ve been seen with Farrah,” the theme song began, with a little nudge-nudge, wink-wink, because at one point Farrah Fawcett was Farrah Fawcett-Majors.

Is anybody taking bets?

Many people love a Monster Mash-up (see what I did there?).  I personally do not mind one monster per film, but I am also flexible.  I am also over 200 words.  I’ll call that OK for a Monday and, as always, try for a better post tomorrow.

Severed Heads on Melting Monday

I promised myself a Monstrous Monday post, and I felt it would be better to get new (to this blog) monster pictures.  After quite some time of puttering around Facebook looking for them, I found not a monster, exactly, but what one might see as monstrous.

Some people just don’t like to sleep alone.

This is a shot from one of my favorite movies to watch on a Severed Head Sunday, which alas, I did not have yesterday: Straitjacket with Joan Crawford.  I sure do like movies that feature severed heads.  I looked for more pictures.

She’s giving him the side eye.

Another big favorite of mine: The Brain that Wouldn’t Die.  The sad thing about the movie is that the head wanted to die, but the obsessed boyfriend would not allow it.  These mad scientists always think they know best.  It took me a while to find a third photograph.  I tried to think of movies that featured severed heads and thought of Sleepy Hollow, or, as I like to call it, The Headless Everybody.  But all I could find was pictures of Johnny Depp looking sultry.  So I tried Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte, with another of my favorites, Bette Davis.  Charlotte is more contemporary with the pictures I’ve shared thus far.

Very atmospheric, isn’t it?

I could not find a picture of the severed head, but I’m not really surprised, because in the movie the head is more often talked about than seen.

So this is my Monstrous Monday post.  Foolish, you say?  In my defense, it has been meltingly hot all day, and I have been at work for the first time in two weeks.  And if you’re going to ding me for whining, just go away.  I will too.  Perhaps we can meet again tomorrow on Tired Tuesday.

Tired Tuesday with Monsters

I tried for a real post today, or at least not a completely foolish one, but I sat here typing and backspacing out.  So I wrote the following, and I’m going to call it a Tired Tuesday post.  Sorry, folks. I’ll try not to Wuss-out on Wednesday.

“What do you mean you can’t write a blog post today?”

When all else fails, look for pictures from old monster movies.  I guess the above is more a horror flick than a monster movie, but you now I adore alliteration (see what I did there?).  The above picture is from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), a pretty trippy silent movie.  I think I need to watch it again soon.  It might be problematic, though, because in general, I only watch silent movies while running in place on the mini-tramp.  If I try to knit or crochet, I can’t keep my eyes on the screen, which is kind of essential when there is no dialog.

“Now THAT’S a centerfold!”

Here’s two monsters, one on the cover, one looking at the magazine, and the word “MONSTERS” on the magazine!  A perfect picture for a monster post.  If only this was a Monday, my alliterative cup would overflow.

He’s a charming fellow.

As I looked through my Media Library, I saw The Brain that Wouldn’t Die (1962).  Only I didn’t want a picture of Jan in a pan; I wanted the monster.  I found the above on Dracula’s House of Halloween, one of my favorite Facebook pages.

The best thing to do on a foolish post is to keep it short.  I just passed 250 words and shared three pictures.  Let’s call it a day.
