Who Says You Can’t Get A Head?

An exceptional cast!

Yesterday I decided at have a severed Head Sunday.  Today I thought I would write about it in lieu of my usual Monstrous Monday Post.  I began with Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte with Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Joseph Cotten, Agnes Moorehead, Victor Buono, and Mary Astor.  Just to name everybody.

One of my favorite shots.

I love Hush, Hush but do not pop it in very often, because it is so long.  I guess I have a short attention span, but I do enjoy watching several movies of 90 minutes or less.

She feels strongly about it.

A few days ago I was disappointed to be unable to find my DVD of StraitJacket (starring Joan Crawford,  of course). Yesterday I had better luck.  In fact, I was surprised I had not found it before, because it was not that far out of alphabetical order.  However, I feel it was just as well I had not watched it before, because it fits so well with my Severed Head theme of the day.

And here are a couple of the heads!

It seems this post is longer on pictures than words, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.  I’m not even sure it can count as a Severed Head Sunday since I only watched two movies with severed heads.  Full disclosure:  my first movie was Rope, which features a strangulation, but the victim’s head remains attached (that did not require a spoiler alert; it happens in the very first scene).

No matter.  It is Monday, and it has not been as monstrous as it might have been.  Once again, I thank you for tuning in.

Throwback? Non-Sequitur? It’s a Mystery!

Wordless Wednesday turned out pretty good (or do I flatter myself?), so I thought I would go for a Throwback Thursday Post. I’ve had those before. If I throw back to something I have thrown before, sorry.

A couple of suspicious individuals.

Here is an appropriate memory: a murder mystery dinner theatre which benefited the Herkimer County Historical Society. It was titled Secrets at Suiter House. It is appropriate, because I am currently writing and recruiting actors for another murder mystery, as yet untitled.

This is not how this looks today, but tomorrow…?

I am having a great deal of trouble navigating my Media Library, as indeed I did yesterday. As a matter of fact, yesterday I sought but did not find a picture of snow. Now I was looking for another murder mystery picture and found snow. No matter. I can just bill this as a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.

I hate to play the illness card again, but can I just say I am still not feeling the least bit well. What the hell, body? I have things to do and blog posts to write! Can I find one more picture to pull this post together?

I loves me some Bette and Joan.

This picture is appropriate for both a Throwback and Non-Sequitur Thursday Posts. It is a publicity shot from when Joan Crawford and Bette Davis were set to star in Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte in 1964. Crawford subsequently left the production. That is pretty far back. Come to think about it, it is not a complete non-sequitur, because the movie is a murder mystery. It’s a good movie. I highly recommend it.

I am not sure I can recommend this blog post, but you’ll have that. If only I could think of a title…

Joan Will Forgive Me

Aaaand here is my Lame Post Friday post, being pecked in one letter at a time on my Tablet early Saturday morning. Ah, my wonderful husband, Steven, just brought me a cup of coffee. Soon those brain cells will start moving.

OK, I don’t really have much this morning, but I swiped a cool picture off Facebook to share.

Things that might have been.

I don’t know about coimetromania, but the picture is Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in a publicity shot for Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte. Joan was later replaced by Olivia de Havilland. I love that movie, but I also would have loved to see it with Joan in the part.

Incidentally, I know that by proper rules, I should be referring to Joan as “Crawford” or possibly “Ms. Crawford.” Those just don’t feel right to me. “Miss Crawford” would be more correct to the period the movie was made, but I don’t much like that either. Have I had this discussion before? Sorry to repeat myself.

So this is my Late Friday Lame Post: cool picture, dither paragraph regarding usage. Let’s see if I can make my Saturday post (Saturday Evening Post?) On time.

Will the Real Monster Please Stand Up?

I am going to make a fast Monstrous Monday post and not offer any excuses.  I hope.  In fact, a few little excuses may worm their way in, that is just how my mind works.  Never mind, let’s just fine a creature I have not shared recently.

I know, this is not a monster! Unless you ask Joan Crawford.

I was scrolling through my Media Library looking for a picture of Nosferatu when I came across this one.  This is the one I was looking for yesterday of Bette Davis in Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte.  Well, I think a psyco biddy in a graveyard is perfectly acceptable for Monstrous Monday.

“You were looking for me?”

Here’s my guy, Count Orlok.  Regular readers know Nosferatu is my favorite.  Full disclosure:  I do not pop the movie in very often, because I find it is too much effort to watch a silent movie.  You have to pay close attention, so it is not easy to knit at the time.

“What do you mean, Bette Davis isn’t a monster?”

I thought I would throw in another psycho, although I am not sure I would classify Joan Crawford as a biddy in Straitjacket.  What do my readers think?  Please express your opinions in the comment section.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words.  I’ll just close with one more monster picture. Happy Monday, everyone.

“Who are you calling a monster now?”

Does Watching Movies Count?

I think this will be a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I don’t think anybody will be particularly surprised, least of all me.  I have been sitting here most of the day being unable to do much. Of course, it is a truism of my life that I am almost incapable of getting anything done on a Sunday, and that is true in the best of times.  Although I personally have very little to complain about,  these are clearly not the best of times (did anybody else just flash on the opening of Tale of Two Cities?).

I had thought to have a Sunday Cinema post,  since of course we are watching movies.

That’s no rhododendron!

We started with Little Shop of Horrors,  because today is Roger Corman’s birthday.  I SO prefer the original black and white horror/comedy to the more recent musical (although the movie of same is now “old,” the stage musical has been presented by area high schools).  However, to each his own, as the old lady does it when she kissed the cow.

Next we watched Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte, because it is also Bette Davis’ birthday.  I love a good gothic horror, especially of the psycho biddy genre.

An excellent cast, but where’s Cecil Kellaway?

After that I went on to a couple of unmemorable monster movies, for which I do not have pictures in my Media Library.

And look, I am over 200 words.  I am going to count that as a win and hit Publish,  before I swoon onto a handy chaise, dramatically posed.  Happy Sunday, folks.

Profiles in Monstrous Monday

I am going to do an old fashioned Monstrous Monday,  and I am not going to seek out any new pictures.  I hope to find different words to write, but no promises.

Look at that devilish grin.

This is my current Facebook profile picture: Lionel Barrymore in Devil Doll.  There are actually at least a couple of movies called Devil Doll.  This is the good one.

My hair did not look like this on my wedding day.

I used The Bride of Frankenstein  for my profile picture several times.  Perhaps not this particular shop, but let us not get bogged down in trivial considerations.  There is no point in being didactic.

Why shouldn’t a monster be cute?

I guess my theme now is monsters I have used as profile pictures.  The above is a little cutie I put in a decorative pot that was sent to me by my friend Marsha.

” I could spit in your eye!”  I, on the other hand, could not.

This was another profile picture but not a monster.  At least it is from a horror movie, a gothic horror of the psycho biddy genre.  Is Bette Davis the monster?  Watch Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte and see for yourself.

Accurate.

I close with one of the Bride that I did use as a profile pic.  I liked the saying.

And I like my blog posts over 200 words.  Happy Monday, everyone.  If you’re still keeping track of the days.

Hush… Hush, Sweet Sunday

Who wouldn’t love Bette Davis in a graveyard?

I pause during our viewing of Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte to make a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post. It has actually been an enjoyable Sunday, but I don’t know that I did anything particularly blog-worthy today.

A bit of snow fell last night, so I spent some time shoveling the driveway in lieu of running.  Full disclosure: I shoveled for less time than I would have run.  I hoped the hefting of weighty snow made up for it.

After shoveling I went to the grocery store, a chore I had meant to put off till another day.  Now I have stuff for my lunch for the week. And I had onions to put in with a pork butt roast I meant to cook.

I do not cook many roasts, and I usually do them in the crock pot, which is fairly fool-proof (or should I say Cindy-proof?). I opted for the oven this time.  I consulted Joy of Cooking, the internet, and my mother (via phone).  Then I kind of winged it.  I love cooking;  it is such an inexact science, things usually turn out tasty.

A stellar cast, but where’s Cecil Kellaway?

I just thought I’d throw in another picture from the movie for good measure.  We have not watched sufficient movies for a Cinema Sunday post.  I’ll have to work on that for next week.

“I could spit in your eye!”

Well, what’s wrong with a Bette Davis Sunday?  If only I had a martini, very dry, my life would be perfect.  Happy Sunday, everyone!

I Drank and Typed

Sunday, Sunday. Nobody will mind if I make a foolish post on Sunday.  For one thing, I can call it Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I am not, in fact, feeling particularly Wrist to Forehead-y at the moment.   I have been relaxing, enjoying a beverage of questionable moral fiber, and I am most inclined to make yet another foolish post.

We are watching Hush, Hush.., Sweet  Charlotte, one of up our favorites of the psycho biddy genre.

Steven is just about ready to fall asleep.  I personally am ready to stretch put and close my eyes.  This hardly matters. The point is to enjoy enough of a movie tonight to be part of a fun evening.

I do enjoy to watch a movie that I have previously been told NOT to watch.  I do not always do it in a case where I have been told NOT to watch. As it happens, right now, I am enjoying some scenes of a movie we were not supposed to watch.

That was as far as I got last night. It all makes sense to me except for the part about being told not to watch a movie.  Who ever told me NOT to watch Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte (I’m not sure where the … goes and I am too lazy to check)?  Bette Davis, Agnes Moorehead, Cecil Kellaway… there could be no possible objection!

I imagine there could be an objection to this blog post, but I offer no excuse.  I must get on with my Monday.

A Little Murder on a Sunday

OK, so I am still going to be two blog posts behind, because I only made one post yesterday and am only making one today.  Yes, I had big blogging plans.  They did not work out.  Now I am sitting on my couch,  typing one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet,  sipping 19 Crimes wine and watching an episode of Columbo on DVD.  I love Columbo.  And 19 Crimes.   It is the original red blend, by the way.

I thought I could make a Sunday Cinema post.  For one reason, I know I have pictures of the two movies we have already watched in my Media Library.

First we saw that heart warming Joan Crawford classic about the mother and daughter who reunite after 20 years, Straitjacket. I love that movie.

No, she is not looking for candy in the movie, but I can’t find the picture without the caption.

I loves me a little Joan Crawford and a little William Castle.

Next we continued the severed head theme with Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte.  I haven’t had a Severed Head Sunday in a long time.

“From right here I could spit in your eye!”

I loves me some Bette Davis too.

This is the picture I was looking for.

I was also hoping to share a picture of Peter Falk as Columbo,  but I am quite frankly tired of looking through my Media Library.   I want to get back to watching the show.  Happy Sunday,  everyone.

Movies Before Monday

For me it’s wine, not the hard stuff.

Yes, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I am supposed to be watching The Bat (1959), a movie featuring Agnes Moorehead and Vincent Price.  We previously watched  Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), which also featured Moorehead, which is what made me think of The Bat.

I do not think this pose actually appeared in the movie.

“I could spit in your eye!”

The divine Bette Davis.  There could be no possible objection.  Yesterday I was going to do a Saturday Cinema, but my laptop would not cooperate.  Perhaps I could type a few words about that now, so the whole post won’t be me whining about the weekend being almost over.

This was the only picture I could find just now.

We watched Horror Hotel (1960), also known as City of the Dead, last evening.  It was really more of a village, truth be told, but I don’t decide on these titles.

This was just the first photo of this movie I found in my Media Library.

After Horror Hotel, we saw House on Haunted Hill (1959), mostly because it was on the same disc.  We love House on Haunted Hill, another delightful vehicle for Vincent Price.

And now I am looking at Snapped.  Steven will be watching the Oscars later, which he has been tuning in to for some 50 years.  I may go to bed early.  I see I am over 200 words, which I consider respectable for a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I hope your weekend was grand and your upcoming week not too gruesome.

HERE’S the picture from Horror Hotel I was looking for!
