Martin Landau, Can You Help Me Now?

Another day, another late post. These things happen, at least to me. No matter. I will attempt to write something worth reading, then attempt it again later today so I will be caught up.

Unfortunately I did not take any pictures at the Mind Twist Media Arts and Entertainment Expo yesterday. My friend, Kim and I dressed up and promoted Ilion Little Theatre. There were other vendors there, some musical entertainment, and a magician. Unfortunately, it was not very well attended. However, those who were there enjoyed it. The representative of Mind Twist I talked to said they would probably try for a date in May next year.

After the expo, Kim and I were quite relieved to get out of our costumes and into comfy shorts. We went to Lombardo’s Pizzeria Plus in Ilion, NY, for some food and wine. We split an order of chicken wings and an appetizer sampler. I really should avoid deep-fried food, but as I often observe, I can’t always do the right thing.

Back home, I relaxed with my husband, Steven. We watched Ed Wood. I had been thinking about that movie since I mentioned Martin Landau in my Friday/Saturday post (perhaps you read it).

So this is my Scattered Saturday Post, a day late. I say to myself, “Now that wasn’t so hard, was it? Why didn’t you do it yesterday?” And then, with thanks to S.J. Perelman, I explain, “Shut up.”

Where Was I on Saturday?

So I missed Thursday, posted lame on Friday, then missed Saturday. Right down the line, I did better earlier in the week than later. Not that I did so hot earlier last week, now that I think about it. I guess I have set the bar for myself kind of low.

Anyways, here I am, lounged on my couch on Sunday morning, pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus, trying to make some post, any post, for reasons I feel unable to articulate.

Yesterday (Saturday), I went for a walk, since I still feel unable to run. Later, our friend Kim picked up Steve and me, and we went to the Pride festivities in Little Falls, NY. We enjoyed some musical performances from a few fabulously dressed Queens, and I purchased a rainbow fan.

Then we adjourned to Rock Valley Brewing, where we ordered drinks. After dithering with my phone for a few minutes, I just walked over to Mangia Macrina’s to get a wood-fired pizza. Previously I have ordered by text, but yesterday I was so indecisive, I thought in-person was a better way to go.

Returning to Herkimer, I remembered that there was a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquors, so we made a quick stop. I love wine tastings.

I realize that I could easily have made a Scattered Saturday Post when we got home. Instead, I watched a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie. In my defense, Vincent Price.

So here is my Saturday post, posted Sunday morning. Will I make my Sunday post on Sunday? A little suspense adds interest to my day.

Is Tardy Tuesday My Fault?

I was too tired too make even a Tired Tuesday Post. However, as I typed that in, I thought of a new feature: Tardy Tuesday! So here I go, with my inaugural Tired Tuesday Post, discreetly failing to tally the number of previous Tuesdays I have been tardy (the Tardy Tuesday Tally?).

My husband, Steve, just brought me coffee, by the way. Aaaaaahhhhh!

I logged onto Facebook before starting this, a stalling tactic with a purpose, since I usually share my post on Facebook. While there, I peeked at On This Day, hoping for some inspiration (OK, I was just stalling some more) and saw this semi-profound statement: It’s not just computers; my whole life is Operator Error.

I suppose it is true. Most of the problems in my life can be traced back to choices I made. In my defense, it seemed like a good idea at the time. However, other people sing, whatever will be, will be. Doris Day got rather tiresome with repeating that philosophy in her autobiography (although it was otherwise a very good book). This could be the topic of a whole blog post: is everything our fault or is nothing?

You want me to write that blog post? Perhaps I will. But not today. I have managed to eke out 200 words, and I have to get on with my Wednesday. Will I wuss out on today’s post? We shall see.

Steve Is Up, And I Have Coffee

I started to make a post last night but thought, “I can’t make another Throwback Thursday Post! I had a headache anyways (had one all day) so went to bed early. Now it is prior to five on Friday morning, coffee isn’t done yet, cable is on the fritz, my husband is still in bed, headache in abeyance (pray God that continues!), and any blog post at all seems like a pretty good thing to do.

By the way, you may have noticed that I said “five in the morning,” NOT “5 a.m. in the morning.” Remember that: you only have to say “a.m.” OR “in the morning.” You do not have to say both, and indeed it is incorrect to do so. The weather people keep saying things like, “tomorrow morning at 5 a.m.” and I shout at the television, “You said ‘in the morning,’ you don’t have to say ‘a.m.’ ! ”

I do not shout very loudly; I’m not a maniac, after all. Still, it amazes me that a society that insists on saying “merch” and “the fam” because they can’t be bothered with saying “mercandise” and “the family ” (I believe I wrote a blog post on the subject) does not mind putting in the extra syllables to say “a.m. in the morning.”

Well, that rant got me to 200 words. I guess I’ll throw in a picture to pep things up and have some coffee.

Can’t wait to see this!

And it’s April 1. We have that going for us.

Late Post, Little Point

I started to write a blog post while on break at work. It was not a very good one, so I stopped working on it and worked on a cryptogram puzzle instead. Now I am home and tired as I can be, yet I still want to make a blog post.

And that was when I decided I was too tired and gave it up. Now it is Tuesday morning, and I have enough time to finish this post or make my lunch. Maybe for both?

Me with my rough draft.

So here’s a late Monstrous Monday Post. If I make it short enough, I may be able to fix my lunch. And write the post card I just now remembered I meant to do.

Who me? Have a glass of wine?

Full disclosure: I did not have a glass of wine yesterday. I almost put “did not enjoy a glass of wine,” but that could have meant I had the glass; I just didn’t enjoy it. What a sad Monday that would be!

It seems this is a rather pointless post. Reading over what I have so far, I have no ideas for a headline. Headlines are hard. That last sentence brought me to 199 words. So at least it isn’t a short post. I hope you all had a more productive Monday.

Lame for the Deadline?

Here is Yet Another Late Lame Post Friday Post. It is almost another feature here at Mohawk Valley Girl. I am feeling sad this particular Saturday morning, because the winter storm the weather forecasters threatened seems to be materializing. It’s not that I do not enjoy a Saturday spent at home, I do. But I need to have some Mohawk Valley Adventures!

Regular readers may remember that I write for Mohawk Valley Living magazine. I got the gig because Sharry Whitney, one of the publishers, read my blog. Every month I try to come up with something, sometimes coming embarrassingly close to the last minute.

Last month I had nothing, due to being sick. I am kind of sort of recovered now but have yet to return to my adventuresome ways. What to do?

I do have one or two places I could write about, places I have been to prior to getting sick. But I always like to visit a place just prior to writing. Then again, perhaps that is just me wanting to go out to eat or shop.

It is easy to beat myself up for not planning ahead, but no amount of planning would have made me recover from COVID any quicker. Then again, a certain amount of planning might have helped me get my article written despite COVID. Perhaps I can plan to do better in the future.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words. I guess I’ll call this a post.

Shout-out to Steve

I wussed out on Wednesday by not making a post at all, but that’s OK, because now it is Thursday, March 3, my husband Steven’s birthday! I will do a Shout-out to Steve! And it will be a Wordless Wednesday Post using pictures from my Media Library.

I wish we’d see them again!

Here are Steve and I (we’re on the right) with a fun couple we had just met at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY. Hey, we have not been there in a while. We shall have to remedy the omission.

Fun with friends is always a good idea.

Here is Steve with our friend Jenna, at Rock Valley Brewing (formerly known as Iron Rock Brewing) in Little Falls. That is another place we need to go again.

Did Steve do it?

Here was a night we had a lot of fun! It was Donate to Murder, the murder mystery we presented to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society. We may be doing another murder mystery soon (preview of coming attractions).

I love that moose!

I wanted to end with a picture of Steve and me. This is us at Copper Moose Ale House in Little Falls. Copper Moose recently re-opened, so that is another place we will have to go.

I guess I have managed to give a few brief shout-outs in addition to my Shout-out to Steve. Yay! And Happy Birthday, Steve!

Better Lame Than Never

I am pretty sure I used this title (too lazy to go back and look). I don’t even have a good excuse for not making my Lame Post Friday post on Friday. And I don’t have much to say now, either. But let’s see what I can come up with.

Our year round ghoul.

I put in a picture of Elliott Ghoul, because he said something as I typed in the previous paragraph. We put him in the window one Halloween, and I enjoyed him so much, I insisted he stay. We added the hat for Christmas, and you can see the reflection of Santa Claus on the window. Santa is still out there, but I think the hat is gone (again, too lazy to check).

Today promises to be a frigid cold day with wind chill and everything. Steven vows not to leave the house. It does not bode well for Mohawk Valley Adventures. Oh dear, will I be reduced to cleaning the house? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

Pretty!

Feeling blank of anything to say, I sought another picture. I settled on the crocuses, because many of us are longing for spring. However, I try not to wish too hard for what patience will bring me. I am a big believer in trying to enjoy Right Now. I am not always successful at it, but I think it would be a good idea if I was.

Will I enjoy today? I certainly intend to. I hope to write a blog post about it. My Saturday Post on Saturday? A little suspense adds interest to my day.

Pre-Rehearsal Monsters?

I typed in the headline with a question mark, because I am not sure how well this is going to work out. I have a mere 17 minutes before I have to get ready and go to rehearsal for Game Show, the play Steven and I are in at Ilion Little Theatre (I mention for those who had not read it here or had forgotten).

Aaand that was a far as I got. And here is a Freudian typo: I wanted to use multiple A’s for “and” but at first typed “assnd.” Because I feel like an ass. I have made blog posts in 15 minutes or less. It can happen. Then I got the One More Thing disease, so we were not early for rehearsal. Never mind that: I put Monsters in the title, I am going to put monsters in the post

Me, studying my lines.

One reason I was unable to make the post before rehearsal yesterday is I started on this sick headache, which, incidentally still plagues me this morning. I took my temperature: not running a fever, not COVID. Anyways, it is my only symptom. I only mention it, because, you know how it is: when you have a head- or some other kind of ache, it tends to dominate your thoughts.

I’m not ready for a coffin yet.

Rehearsal was not as enjoyable as it may have been, due to my headache. However, I managed to be off book. I guess it is not that impressive; I have very few lines. Now I have to learn everybody else’s lines. For one reason: I will know more betterly when my lines are coming (yes, I know “more betterly” is not proper English; it is a silly thing I like to say). For another, when somebody forgets their line, sometimes I can say something in character that helps them remember or at least keeps the scene going.

Steve is no longer invisible.

The Steve in the above caption does not refer to my husband Steve but to a character in the play. I think I mentioned that we were down an actor. One fellow had to drop out due to personal reasons. However, we had a replacement last night, and I know he will do an excellent job. As a side note: in this play the director and two actors are named Steve, as is a main character in the play. We’re lousy with Steves!

I see I have talked more about the play than the monsters, but I think that is all right. Additionally, I am over 400 words. How did that happen? It must be the coffee.

Not Really a Blog Post

Once again, I had such a good Saturday that I did not make a blog post. This is not really a blog post, either, but more of an apology for not making a blog post yesterday.

We did everything on the agenda I outlined on my Lame Post Friday post. We had a fun time at each event. I need to write blog posts about them.

For right now, however, I have a headache. Too much red wine? Falling asleep on the couch and getting a crick in my neck? Cold air and sinus problems? Any number of other headache causes?

And here’s a weird thing: my Tablet is underlining “neck” but not “crick.” I always thought crick was not a real word. Oh, the Tablet underlined it in the previous sentence. These are the things I ponder on a Sunday morning when I am not really making a blog post.
