Shout-out to Steve

I wussed out on Wednesday by not making a post at all, but that’s OK, because now it is Thursday, March 3, my husband Steven’s birthday! I will do a Shout-out to Steve! And it will be a Wordless Wednesday Post using pictures from my Media Library.

I wish we’d see them again!

Here are Steve and I (we’re on the right) with a fun couple we had just met at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY. Hey, we have not been there in a while. We shall have to remedy the omission.

Fun with friends is always a good idea.

Here is Steve with our friend Jenna, at Rock Valley Brewing (formerly known as Iron Rock Brewing) in Little Falls. That is another place we need to go again.

Did Steve do it?

Here was a night we had a lot of fun! It was Donate to Murder, the murder mystery we presented to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society. We may be doing another murder mystery soon (preview of coming attractions).

I love that moose!

I wanted to end with a picture of Steve and me. This is us at Copper Moose Ale House in Little Falls. Copper Moose recently re-opened, so that is another place we will have to go.

I guess I have managed to give a few brief shout-outs in addition to my Shout-out to Steve. Yay! And Happy Birthday, Steve!

Music on my Mind

I guess I had a real Wordless Wednesday as I went to bed without posting at all. I don’t have time for a real post right now (I have to work for a living), so how about a few pictures of local musicians instead?

Yay, music!

Last night Steven and I enjoyed music by Matt Grainger at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY.

Another favorite!

Here is another shot of Phil Arcuri at Iron Rock Brewing Company in Little Falls.

He was awesome too!

This is Mark Nanni, whose music we enjoyed last Wednesday at Fratello’s.

We have been enjoying a lot of good music lately. I hope soon to enjoy making more blog posts. As always, thank you for tuning in.

Tired Post about Good Music

I’m thinking nobody will be particularly surprised to see a Tired Tuesday post from Mohawk Valley Girl. Unless it is actually Wednesday by the time you are reading this. I have no control over these things. I can only be happy anybody is reading me at all.

Where was I? Never mind that, just tnrow in a picture.

Good music, yes!

Sunday we went to Iron Rock Brewing Company in Little Falls, NY, to enjoy music by Phil Arcuri. We had a wonderful time. Perhaps too good a time, which might explain why I was so tired on Monday. What is my excuse today?

More of Phil’s fans.

When I asked people at the bar if I could take their picture for my blog post, the guy with the beard asked for $500.

“I do not have $500,” I said.

“In that case, go ahead and take the picture,” he said. I felt this was very gracious of him. The other patrons and the bartender were equally as gracious.

One more of Phil.

It is so fun to hear Phil Arcuri play, because he is obviously having so much fun. We enjoyed ourselves a lot. And as always we enjoyed the atmosphere and service at Iron Rock.

Iron Rock Brewing Company is located at 56 West Mill St., Little Falls, NY, phone number 315-508-5313. They are open 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 3 to 10 p.m. Friday, 12 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

I Don’t Rock the Iron Rock

So I ran the four and a half mile Iron Rock Run, and I am not sure what I can say about it. As I was actually running it, I was not having as much fun as I has hoped. For one reason, it was hot and sunny. There was not enough shade and not enough breeze.

Still, one must put up with these things. I was running faster than my accustomed pace, but that is normal for race days, I think for most people. I wore my Garmin so kept checking my speed, time and distance. I kept telling myself it was OK to slow down, but I tried not to do so.

The dogs did not run.

Steve took this shot while waiting for me to cross the finish line. We petted those nice labradoodles before the race. He thought he had gotten a picture of me running, but apparently he did not.

After the race we sat in Iron Rock Brewing Company and listened to a band. There was to be another band later, but we did not stay. I wanted to go home and shower.

They were good.

On our way out, I took a picture of the sign with the band’s name. It occurred to me that people don’t write things down any more; we just take pictures.

I’ll catch Jimmy Wolf another time.

I don’t rule out doing the Iron Rock Run again, if they make it an annual thing. I’ll try to train a little better next time.

Pre-Race Lame Post (with a Dull Title)

Yes, it is another late Lame Post Friday post. So sue me (just to say something different from “judge me”). I am lounged on my couch, pecking into the Tablet with the stylus (which I have managed not to lose too many times this week), listening to the rain.

Normally I would be thinking about going on my run by now (halfway through my second cup of coffee, by the way). It is not merely the rain which deters me this morning. This afternoon I plan to participate in the inaugural Iron Rock Run at Iron Rock Brewing Company in Little Falls, NY.

The event is a benefit for Little Falls Food Pantry. I made an additional donation when I registered, as I am sure many runners did. The race is directed by Rock City Runners, who also sponsor the Little Falls Turkey Trot and my beloved Reindeer Run 5K.

I confess to feeling a little nervous about the run. I feel I have not trained as well as I might have. Then again, one can almost always do more, often at the expense of something else one wants or needs to do. That will count as my half-baked philosophy for the day.

Additionally , I have a tendency on these runs to “leave it all on the track” (in the words of an admired drill sergeant in my past). I run harder and faster than I think I am capable of, especially at the end. I start my final sprint too soon and finish up making terrible noises with my breathing. I kind of make a spectacle of myself. I do not know if more training would prevent this.

Perhaps later I can make a post about the run. Or I may blog about hearing our favorite band The Posers at the Brass Tack in Frankfort. I was also carbing up, by the way.

Ready to Run?

Look at me, making my Tired Tuesday post on Tuesday. I hope. Or as I like to call it Itsonlyfreakingtuesday. Only I don’t always say “freaking.” But never mind my whining. I went running today so thought a Running Commentary post might be possible.

I was determined to go running today, because I have a four and a half mile run in Little Falls, NY on Saturday. It is the Iron Rock Run at Iron Rock Brewing Company, directed by Rock City Runners. I believe beer will be involved.

Taken on a recent visit there.

I had been beating myself up for not running yesterday, when temperatures were more moderate and humidity lower. Still, this afternoon did not seem as uncomfortable as this morning’s weather forecast seemed to threaten. I got into my gear and went.

My first thought was, I am never going to be able to run for four miles on Saturday! I was skeptical of my ability to keep it up very long today. Just keep going, I told myself. I had it in mind to go on a long run with a major hill, but I found myself revising my plans.

I had also miscalculated the humidity. It was indeed muggy; I just had not really felt it till I started moving. Oh well, a little sweat never hurt anybody. I persevered.

I ran up a couple hills, not the major impressive ones, but I found them challenging. I hung in for just over two and a quarter miles, 30 minutes (yes, it’s slow, what do you want from a middle-aged, overweight shuffler?). It became less painful as I went, although I did ask a little girl to give me a ride home in her plastic car (I think she actually might have tried to). I petted one nice dog.

On the whole, not a bad run. I can’t say I have a whole lot of confidence about Saturday, but we shall see. At least I hope today’s run helped me be a little more prepared.

Interlude at Iron Rock

Saturday after I got the horrible news of my dear friend’s passing, I did not want to do anything but stay home and cry. However, I had been texting Jenna, another theatre friend, about possibly meeting up somewhere. I thought it might do us good to get out of the house. It turns out I was right.

We did not stay for the band.

I suggested we meet at Iron Rock Brewing in Little Falls. I had not seen Jenna in a while, so it was nice to catch up.

Steve and Jenna.

We enjoyed the decor and the atmosphere. The service was excellent, as was the beer and wine.

I need one of those.

The large hanging is by a local artist, but I did not get the name. I daresay my ceilings are not high enough for such a thing, but I think it is pretty awesome.

Lots of choices!

It was a very nice interlude. I highly recommend getting together with friends at Iron Rock Brewing in Little Falls, NY.

A Little More Little Falls

I am going to attempt a Wordless Wednesday Post, utilizing some recent photos I took but did not use. After all, waste not, want not. I do not expect to be particularly successful, because one thing I rarely am is wordless. No matter. I just want to make a blog post.

It’s nice to plug a local business.

I took this last Saturday at Ironrock Brewing Company in Little Falls, NY.

Cheers!

Yes, I usually do take a picture of my friend Kim on our outings, which often involve wine.

Ironrock is located near the canal, so Kim and I walked across the road to admire the water.

You can see the antique shops.
I don’t know what this building used to be.
Is this a retaining wall?

We did have a fun time in Little Falls last weekend. As for this blog post, I guess it was not wordless, but perhaps it was not a waste.

As October Wears On…

So pretty!

I have spent a good deal of time this October admiring the scenery. I feel grateful that whatever else is going on in my life, I have had more opportunity to do this than in previous years. “Whatever else” is really not as heinous as it might be. Merely, I am on furlough from my job and may soon hear I am terminated. I add that for clarification’s sake.

That was not a very good paragraph. I don’t know where I think I am going with this blog post, but I say that is OK on Lame Post Friday.

One of my favorite places.

I have visited Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit twice this year, and I may go again tomorrow. I plan to go adventuring with my friend Kim, and we have not made definite plans yet.

Last week’s adventure.

Last Saturday we went to Iron Rock Brewing in Little Falls. It was so much fun, I wouldn’t mind going again. Or there is always Copper City Brewing in Rome.

I was there in September for the Mini-Maker with Roman Runners.

Or Heelpath Brewing Company in Frankfort.

I totally forgot this bartender’s name.

Scenery, pumpkins, beer, or maybe wine, as Kim is drinking in the photo above. I look forward to a fun Saturday. Now I shall get back to enjoying my Friday. Thank you for tuning in.

Another Scattered then Svengoolie Saturday

Hello and welcome to another Scattered Saturday Post. I had a nice little Saturday and feel sure some highlights would have entertainment value,

The cute part is the pumpkin.

I went for a run after my first cup of coffee. Then I took a selfie of me and my most recently acquired Halloween friend. Later I got together with my friend Kim for some Mohawk Valley Adventures.

Oh rats! I was afraid it would be too dim.

We went to Iron Rock Brewing. I do love a local brewery! After a flight of beer and a couple glasses of wine, I was having a great time, although I thought some real food would be a good idea (we had potato chips with out beer and wine).

We adjourned to Suggestions, where I foolishly did not take any pictures. Kim had her favorite calimari while I ordered spaghetti with marinara. What a huge plate of spaghetti! Yum! We both took leftovers home.

I need to get a rubber chicken!

Back home, I enjoyed another DVR’d episode of Svengoolie. Some people feel Saturdays and Svengoolie go together. I think they have a point. In the meantime, I hope this will suffice for my Scattered Saturday Post.
