Monday Tribute to Mom

Alas, I broke my streak by not posting yesterday!  In my defense, I was celebrating Mother’s Day AND my Mother’s 85th Birthday with family.  It was a delightful day, but I did not take any pictures.  I think I have at least one of my mother in my Media Library, though.

One of everybody’s favorite couples.

Here are my Mom and Dad at Asteroga Ale House in Herkimer, NY.  We were gathered for a yummy meal with good company. just to give a quick shout-out to a local business.

A mother/daughter pair.

And here is my niece Kimberly with my sister Cheryl, who were present at the time as well as at yesterday’s gathering.

A grandma and her grandson!

Cheryl is also a grandmother.  Here she is with her grandson Sheppy on the Adirondack Railroad, on a trip when they invited me to join them.  I am trying to get them to go on the Richfield Springs Scenic Railway with me sometime.

Another lovely picture.

Speaking of grandparents, here are my Mom and Dad with Jenna, another of Cheryl’s daughters.  This was taken at my sister Diane’s house in Liverpool.  Diane was there yesterday, too.

At Christmas and all year long, we love Mom!

I close with a Christmas tribute to Mom.  My mother did this and did  not even realize it spelled “Mom” till Cheryl accused her of signing her work.  Mom changed it, but we made her change it back and like her to put it up every year.

So a belated Happy Mothers Day to all Moms, including pet moms, step-moms, and those that just love somebody with a mother’s love.  And to be up to date, happy Monday.

Searching for a Mother’s Day Present

Saturday I took a stroll down to Mohawk Valley Community Market.  For one reason, Mother’s Day is coming.  Of course my mother told me I do not need to get her a present, but I like to.  Additionally, finding something at a distinctive local place might make a good blog post.

I went to the recently opened downstairs area, where I found a number of new vendors.  That is one reason to return to this sort of market: there is almost always something new to see.

All kinds of sweet things!

I wandered around, admiring but not feeling inspired to buy anything.  I took a few pictures, though, with my blog post in mind.

You can’t read the sign very well, unfortunately.

As I began to realize I was just not in a buying mood, a melancholy song began to play.  Oh dear, I am so emotional these days.

How cute is that?

I distracted myself with the children’s rain boots on a wreath.  Who thinks if these things?  I made a few grapevine wreaths at one time, but never thought of using footwear.  Now I am inspired to get crafty again.

My present for my mother remains purchased, but it was nice browsing the Market.  Mohawk Valley Community Market is located at 142 N. Main St., Herkimer, NY.  They are open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday,  10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Happy Mother’s Day from Me and Joan

A very Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers everywhere, most especially to my own very wonderful Mom.  I also send prayers and good thoughts out to all who are celebrating Mother’s Day without their mother.   I send love and respect to those who through choice or circumstance are not mothers. I am feeling tired and melancholy this afternoon, but one must make a blog post every day when one is me.  When other people are feeling down, I never can find the right words of wisdom and comfort.  All I can manage is to make stupid jokes in hopes that a little humor will take their minds off their troubles.  With that in mind, I submit the following picture I have used before.

In my defense, I do like candy.

Yes, it is Mommy, Dearest herself, Joan Crawford.  The picture is from a fine chunk of cheddar (that is, a cheesy horror movie) from William Castle, Straitjacket.  In the movie, Crawford plays a mother who also does not the set best example of maternity.  More than that I won’t say, though, in case you  have not seen the movie.  Perhaps it is one to screen in honor of the day.  It would also make this a Severed Head Sunday, one of my favorite kinds of Sunday.

So this is my short, silly post.  We’ll call it a Wrist to Forehead Sunday and hit publish.  I shall publish a post again tomorrow, and I hope it will not be Melancholy Monday.
