Asteroga, End Zone… Why Not on a Sunday?

This will be a fast Sunday Post,  largely because I have been having an enjoyable Sunday and do not feel inclined to further exersions.  Earlier this afternoon,  I met my friend Kim at Asteroga Ale House for drinks and food.

Why not have a toast on a Sunday?

Naturally I asked Kim to take a picture of me.

Kind of a cheese eating grin, isn’t it?

She thought I looked delightful.  Who am I to disagree?  I wanted a shot of the bartender.  I was quite impressed by her acumen, making sure people were seated to enjoy their respective games of interest.  She insisted I get a picture of her working, not a fun picture with a smile.

She was working hard today.

Kim and I had a fun time drinking Chardonnay and Reislimg, and eating calimari.  We went on to the End Zone Pub and Grub, where I foolishly did not take any pictures.  Perhaps I should return there for more illustrations.

In the meantime,  I hope this will count as my Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post.  I do feel inclined to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead, because I have no further words to add.  No matter.  If something dramatic is happening nearby,  perhaps I will hear about it before my next blog post.  If not, at least I can enjoy the frisson of virtue from being above the fray.  I hope none of you will judge me for being in the prior group.

Blooms, Bald and Booze

I don’t know if anybody noticed that I did not post on Saturday or Sunday, but I totally had enough for a Scattered Saturday Post.  Perhaps I could do that now, instead of my usual Tired Tuesday.

I got up and went running.  Then I wrote a couple of postcards and called my parents.  It is nice to talk to Mom and Dad almost every day.  I did not talk long, however, since I wanted to get out early and get to Houle Flower Farm in Little Falls while they still had a lot of flowers for sale.  I did not need to purchase any; I was hoping to get some pictures to submit with my article for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.

I almost bought another bouquet.

After I got back home, I had my bald appointment at the Hot Spot Salon and Spa in Herkimer.  I blogged about that yesterday.  After I was bald, I met my friend Kim at the End Zone Pub and Grub, which had just re-opened the day before.

Of course we practiced social distancing.

The above picture is Kim.  After the End Zone we went to Asteroga Ale House, but I did not get any pictures.

It was a very fun Saturday, and I apologize for not blogging about it right away.  These things happen.  I hope you will all tune in again tomorrow for what may or may not be Wuss-out Wednesday.

A Word About Sunday

OK, back to one post behind.  And I guess I’m still All Mornings at Seven All the Time,  because instead of a Tired Tuesday post, I shall share a little story about my Sunday .  Full disclosure: I am on my Tablet typing one letter at a time with the stylus (the last eight words were quickly added utilizing the predictive text function,  tee hee).

So there I was in the dressing room during intermission, and there was a knock on the door.  Kaylynn answered.  I heard my husband’s voice!  Then Kaylynn handed me a lovely bouquet and declared that my husband was the cutest thing ever.  I didn’t even know he was coming to the show that day!

I tried to put it someplace where there was no clutter, not an easy thing to find at my house.

And here is the bouquet,  after I got it home and into a vase.

After the show, Steven and I went to Asteroga Ale House for a drink and some food.  Could that be why I neglected to make a second post on Sunday?  I regret nothing.

So I am still recovering from my tiredness.  Perhaps it would behoove me to lead a healthier lifestyle.   If I decide to try, I will be sure to write a blog post about it.  In the meantime , Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Saturday Fun in Herkimer

My husband, Steven, and I made a few stops this afternoon.  I brought along my Tablet and took pictures at each one, for a proper Scattered Saturday post.  Let’s see if I can actually make one.

I foolishly did not get the name of the fellow doing the pouring.

Our first stop was at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer for a tasting by Thousand Islands Winery. Alas, they were not pouring any of their dryer wines, but we enjoyed talking to the young man pouring.  From there we went to Hummel’s Office Plus for some paper for our printer.

Look at all that paper!

After that, we stopped at a new business in Herkimer, Wakefield Furniture. Full disclosure:  we do not need any furniture at the present time.  However, the next time we do, we will go to Wakefield. They are very nice, in addition to having a very attractive store showcasing some lovely items.

I LOVE a tall table!

One of the first things to catch my eye was a tall table with matching stools. However, there was another table which I wonder would not be even better for my house.

I don’t know if this picture properly captures this table’s beautiful top.

Leaving the furniture store, I had the silly idea we should do a little bar hopping, a pastime in which we rarely indulge these days.  Accordingly, we stopped at the Endzone Pub and Grub.

They carry a lot of beers at the End Zone.

Can you read “Herkimer” on the shirt?

We admired the ceilings at the End Zone.  Wakefield also had lovely ceilings, but I neglected to take a picture.

After the End Zone,we stopped at Pete’s Tavern, at which we tried our luck at a couple of scratch-off lottery tickets.

This was our nice bartender, Cecelia.

I won $10 on one, $2 of which I re-invested in another scratch-off.  That one was not a winner, but I got a $1 scratch-off that won me $2, so I was still $8 up.

The other pub in close proximity was Asteroga Ale House, so we stopped there as well.  We had a cup of clam chowder along with our wine. Very tasty.

I do not remember this lady’s name.

The we finally went home.  Full disclosure:  I am having another glass of wine as I type this. I hope it still makes a fun blog post. Happy Saturday, everyone.

Off the Hook on Lame Post Friday

I started to write a blog post while at work today. I had a good topic, about a theatre experience I am currently undergoing.  I guess that is now a Preview of Coming Attractions, because I never got beyond the first paragraph.  I wondered if it is because I am wired to have Lame Post Friday.  And here we are, back at my house, bra off, sweats on, glass of Chardonnay nearby, not my first glass, obviously (or perhaps not so obviously, but so it is), hoping to type in a few words to amuse or at least entertain.

The day at work passed with sometimes agonizing slowness.  I got some work done, but let us not dwell on that.  For one reason, this is not a work blog.  I sustained myself through the day with the knowledge that at some point I would get together with my friend, Kim.  She has been away, and I have missed her.

We did get together.  We tasted some wine at Valley Wine and Liquor (I must make a full post about that.  For one reason, I took a picture of the winemaker who was pouring the wines we tasted).  Then we went to Asteroga Ale House and Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restuarant.  We had a fun time at both places.  We made plans to meet again tomorrow.

Oh what a dull post this is!  Where are my random observations and half-baked philosophy that usually enliven my Friday Lame Posts?  I don’t know.  However, I am over 200 words, which I consider respectable.  Perhaps tomorrow I can tell you the story of the chocolate cake.  Or we’ll talk about wine.  In any case, it will be Scattered Saturday or some such by then.  I’m going to let myself off the hook for today.  Happy Friday, everyone!

Wrist to Forehead But Fun

This may be an unusual Wrist to Forehead Sunday post in that I do not feel particularly wrist-to-foreheady (yes, computer, I know that is not a word, yet I do not believe I shall confuse any of my readers).  The obvious reason for that is that I do not have to go to work tomorrow. Yay, me.  Please don’t hate on me, those of you who do.

Since I do not have to work tomorrow, Steven and I went out to have drinks and appetizers at a local watering hole.  I took my Tablet with me, hoping to take some pictures for blog and other purposes.  Unfortunately the first place we tried has been closing on Sundays as of late.  The second place was too busy and crowded. How’s that for opposites?

Finally we went to Lombardo’s Pizzeria in Ilion, NY, where we had a couple glasses of wine and some food.  It was a fun interlude.  Next we went to Asteroga Ale House in Herkimer, where we had another drink and a pleasant conversation with another couple at the bar. Alas I did not take any pictures.  Here is where I fall far short in comparison with other bloggers. Judge me if you will.

Now we are home for what I like to call the bra off, sweats on, movie watching portion of the day.  Or we may watch an episode or two of Snapped.  In any case, I have kept my post-Christmas letdown at bay for yet another day.  Happy Sunday, everyone!

Another Pre-Holiday Post

My pre-holiday weekend continued today with a few indoor chores and a couple of outside stops.  Full disclosure:  I was going to have a Lame Post Friday, even though technically Wednesday was my Friday this week, and I make no promises about how lame this post will be.  Then again, do I ever?

It was pouring rain this morning, so I did not go running.  I know, some people run no matter what the weather, but I sometimes let myself off the hook.  Later on I went for a walk, which was nice.  It is much easier to dodge around the puddles and not get sopping wet from the thighs down if one moves at a slower pace.  So at least I got some exercise.

Before my walk, I got out to a couple of non-local non-distinctive stores, hoping to beat the crowds.  I guess I did to some extent, although I kept getting in people’s way.  They were all very nice about it, which I chalked up to the time of year, although I have observed that many people in this area are nice at all points in the year.  At home I did a load of laundry and made a couple of Christmas treats  Further full disclosure:  many indoor chores remain to be accomplished.

Later on, Steven and I went to the Herkimer County Historical Society, one of our favorite places, for further Christmas shopping.  From there we drove down Main Street and parked in a handy space to go to three cool places:  Rose Quartz Stand, the European Deli, and Click’s Cakes.  I’ll have to write better blog posts about all four of those places (preview of coming attractions).  Then we drove to Asteroga Ale House, because we were hungry and wanted food.

After re-fueling we went to Valley Wine and Liquor for a wine tasting.  I do like to try new things. After that, we were ready for the bra off (me) sweats on (both of us), TV watching portion of the evening. We are looking at an obscure offering called Stalking Santa  (2006).   We found it when one of the local movie rental places went out of business (oh how I miss movie rental places!).  I highly recommend it.

I guess this blog is about to become All Christmas All The Time, but is that such a bad thing?  If so, comment, please, and let’s have a discussion. In the meantime, Happy Friday.

Shopping Small on Scattered Saturday

I may have used this title before, but it is getting late on Saturday, and I have had a few drinks, so I must make my post as best as I can and hope it is OK.  I went running this morning and hoped to do a Running Commentary, but time got away from me.  For one reason, I went running late and still had to write my post cards.  And call my Mom and Dad (I have called home on Saturday mornings for many years).  And check Facebook (I am still Liking birthday wishes from Thursday).

Our first stop was The Medicine Shoppe in Ilion, NY, to pick up a re-fill (more I cannot say, because, you know, HIPAA).  It is a shop local shop, because it is a locally owned franchise. Nice!  It was also handily located for a stop at Honey Brook Hobbies.  They were having a craft fair. Nice!  Additionally, we found out our dear friend Jerry is now employed there part time as a baker.  He is quite awesome in every respect. Yet another reason to like the nice people at Honey Brook!  In fact, when we paid for our purchases, we told the lady at the cash register that Jerry is one of our best friends.  She said theirs, too.  I said I guessed Jerry became best friends with almost everybody he meets.

After Honey Brook, we went two doors down to Ilion Wine and Spirits.  We got a couple of bottles to ensure our good cheer.  On the way home, we stopped at Mohawk Village Market, where we purchased sausage and chicken gizzards.  Yum!  I did not see any books to borrow from their Little Library but made a mental note to bring some books to donate. I know I have some.

After relaxing at home, we ventured out again with our friend Kim to a liquor tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, NY.   Amaretto, Vodka and Fireball Whiskey, yum!  After that we went to Asteroga Ale House for another drink and a little food.

I fear I am too tired after all these stops to include links to all these businesses, or even their addresses and hours.  Perhaps you could google any in which you are interested.  Or perhaps tomorrow I will remember to edit and add same. In the meantime, Happy Saturday, and I hope you found an opportunity to shop small.  It’s fun!

The Sting of Lame Post Friday

Oh dear, it is Lame Post Friday and I am, indeed, lame.  Earlier today I went to a Wine Tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor with my friend Kim. Then we went to Asteroga Ale House for “just one” (of course it was two). Now I am sitting at home on my couch while my husband Steven watches The Sting.  I have always loved that movie, although as years pass I am increasingly less enamored of con stories.  Well, that is a discussion for another blog post, when I have had fewer than three glasses of wine.

I wish I had found a better picture of Redford and Newman,

I thought at first this was a picture of a VHS of the movie. That would be appropriate since Steven and I are currently watching a video.  Yes, we still watch some movies on video.  It takes time to replace a movie collection such as ours with the next technology.

I spent a little time looking for better photos but could find nothing down-loadable.  No doubt there are more photos available, but we all know I am not internetally astute.

So what is a blogger to do on Lame Post Friday when one feels one MUST make a post but has only one apropos photo to share. Perhaps share one that is not so apropos?

He’s so fine.

Found another apropos photo!  The divine Paul Newman.  And that is a lovely place to stop for a Friday Lame Post.  I hope to see you all on Saturday.
