I Indulge in More Memories

I want to do a Throwback Thursday Post.  I know I have been heavy on the memories lately, but once again, I crave my readers’ indulgence.

I personally have never worn that hat.

Yes, I am sharing more memories of my husband, Steve.  Here he is wearing one of my rummage sale finds on Kentucky Derby day.  I think he is cute.

With a friend.

Here is Steve at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY with our friend Tracy.  We were having a delightful time, as I recall.

Cheers, my love!

This was at the Ommengang Brewery in Cooperstown.  We always meant to go back but were rarely in the mood to drive that far.

With some fish.

This was at Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer.  Hmmm… that broiled haddock looks good.  My sister Cheryl and her girls were thinking of going to a fish fry tomorrow.  Perhaps I should join them (preview of coming attractions).

I fear I have not gotten to 200 words (my rule for me about the respectable length of a blog post).  Well, sometimes we all fall short of the ideal (yes, even you) (you know who you are).  At least this post is on time, and I can always try for a better blog post tomorrow.

Ha ha, that got me over 200 words!

It’s the Best I Can Do on Tired Tuesday

It occurred to me that it might be interesting to some readers if I share my journey through grief.  It might help me to write about it.  Or this might be nothing more than a rationalization to continue blogging.  Then again, for me, anything that will keep me writing, I will use.

This by means of an introduction to a Tired Tuesday Post.  I did not sleep so well last night.  Regular readers know I suffer from chronic insomnia, but last night I had the added problem of an intense cough.  It was quite distressing.  I did get a little sleep, though, so don’t mind me.

I thought it might be good to get out of the house.  I have, in fact, left the house almost every day.  I went to the funeral home, Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations in Little Falls.  On my way home from there, I stopped by Ann Street Liquors for some brandy for a hot toddy (a beautiful thing for a cold).  I went grocery shopping, to the bank, and to the drug store.  And I went running twice.  This was all over the course of Saturday through Tuesday.

Most recently I met my friend Kim for lunch at Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer.  We both had calzones and a glass of wine.  Yum!  And we took home leftovers.  Next we stopped at a big box store which needs no plug from Mohawk Valley Girl.  We had a fun time shopping for various needs and wants.

Hmm… This is kind of a dull post.  However, I am going to hit Publish and, as usual, hope for the post.  I crave my readers’ indulgence on Tired Tuesday.

And a Tired one at that!

Once Again, I Indulge in Lame Post Friday

Here is something different:  I am making my Lame Post Friday post on Friday.  At least, I hope so.  I am feeling fairly wordless and brainless, even for a Lame Post Friday.  I guess some would argue that I am almost always brainless (you know who you are), but am I ever wordless? I think not.

I take a deep breath to try.

Can I manage a howl this Friday?  Better not.  It might scare the neighbors.

I did a couple of Friday-ish things earlier.  I went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, NY, and to Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant, also in Herkimer, for dinner.  I hope to write blog posts about those in the near future.  So I guess I can consider this post a Preview of Coming Attractions.

I’ll have a fabulous glass of wine, please.

Since I am indulging in a glass of wine, which many find appropriate on a Friday,  I searched my Media Library for a picture of same.  This is the glass presented to me by the cast of Leading Ladies,  the play I directed at Ilion Little Theatre.  All those corks do not represent tonight’s indulgence, by the way.

I see I am over 200 words without having said very much.  On the brighter side, I feel I have refrained from whining.  Oh dear, did that just ruin it?  Never mind, me, just have a little more wine.

At Least I Voted

Once again, my blog is degenerating into late post after late post, whining about how tired I am.  But, hey, when I make a late post, I often do it on the laptop (dining room table top, as regular readers may recall), and I am reminded how much fun ten-fingered typing is.  I must purchase a new laptop.  That might be worth a blog post.

Be all that as it may, I was indeed too tired to make a post yesterday, and I was too tired to go for a walk this morning.  If  I was being less kind to myself, I could substitute lazy for tired, so you may may what judgements you like.  I got home from work tired but had things I needed to do.  Of course I did not do all of them, but I showered (an absolute necessity, given my job and the summer weather) and did a load of laundry (also a necessity if I did not want to wear dirty pants to work) (they are just going to get dirty again, but you’ll have that). Then my husband, Steve, and I headed to Basloe Library in Herkimer, NY to vote.

I am not really adept with my cell phone.

After we voted, I took an ussie, specifically for blogging purposes.  I was truly sorry to leave the library without pausing to look for a book or two, but we were hungry.  Accordingly, we went to Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant.  Steven got a bacon cheeseburger while I, tempted by the special, got a calzone with three toppings.  I picked meatballs, mushrooms, and black olives.  The reason I went for the meatballs was that I knew we would have a large amount leftover and Steven likes meat on pizza and such-like (isn’t a calzone just a folded-up pizza?).

Back home, all I wanted to do was sit on the couch and watch an episode of Dateline (love that Keith Morrison).  At least I crocheted while I watched, so it was not completely unproductive.  I really must up my crochet game and make more things than afghans, but that is for another day.

In the meantime, I see I am over 300 words.  I call that more than respectable for a late Tired Tuesday post.  Later on, I will strive not to Wuss Out on Wednesday, but as usual, no promises.  And just as an aside, why did I not dub it Wimp-out Wednesday?  Any thoughts?

(Ooh, 400 words! Score!)

Fun with Friends at Salvatore’s

I missed making my Tired Tuesday Post for a good reason. We were meeting friends for dinner. Oh, OK, I could have come home and made a blog post before bed. I did not. Judge me if you are so inclined.

Our good friends Bonnie and Marty were up from Florida. They attended a wedding elsewhere in the state and took the opportunity to visit other family and friends, including us. Yay! We were happy to introduce them to one of our favorite places, Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer, NY.

We were invited to sit where we liked. We selected a table near the window but almost immediately switched to one across the room, more in the shade.

“They will not mind if we switch tables,” I said. They did not.

On looking at the Specials board, I had immediately decided on the Chicken Wrappini with spinach, feta, and raspberry vinaigrette. It was as delicious as I had hoped. Bonnie got a calzone, which I may have to get next time. Marty had a Meat Lover’s Pizza, which also looked good. Steve had chicken tenders. I may eat his leftovers.

We enjoyed catching up while we ate, and we had a lot of laughs. I love taking my far away friends to our local treasures!

Too Tired to Cook

It was a beautiful afternoon today. My husband Steve and I sat out on the front porch waiting for the sub we ordered from Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer, NY. The beauty part of that is, I can give a shout-out to a local business instead of making a purely Tired Tuesday Post.

I’m afraid it is a Tired Tuesday Post. Maybe I need to start living a healthier lifestyle so I don’t keep feeling so tired all the time. In the meantime, I must try to make today’s blog post.

We order from Salvatore’s fairly regularly. I like their wings and salads. Steven is fond of their garlic pizza. The last two times, however, we ordered subs. Yum!

I need to give a shout-out to another local pizzeria soon. Sunday we enjoyed food from Enzo’s Pizza. I’ll let that stand as a preview of coming attractions.

Do you suppose I should be cooking for myself more often? But then I would be less supportive of local businesses. I never get tired of supporting local businesses!

Enzo’s Pizza is located at 122 N. Main St., Herkimer NY, phone number 315-985-9090. They are open Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday noon to p.m.

Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant is located at 650 1/2 W. German St., Herkimer NY, phone number 315-866-2600. They are open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, closed Sunday.

It was NOT Lame-sagna!

Steven and I celebrated Friday with a yummy dinner from Salvatore’s in Herkimer. I opted to call for pick up, since I also wanted to stop by Valley Wine and Liquor for accompanying wine.

I could not find a Salvatore’s menu so relied on my memory. Steven suggested lasagna. I suggested Bosco Sticks from the appetizer menu and chocolate spoon cake for dessert. At the liquor store, I selected a bottle of Barefoot Pinot Noir.

We still have not eaten the cake, but everything else was delicious. I hope this does not make for a boring Lame Post Friday, but I suppose these things happen sometimes, especially on a full stomach. Happy Friday, everyone! I know mine is!

Thank You, Salvatore’s!

I needed a treat this evening, so I took a walk to Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer, NY.

One of my favorite places.

This picture is from last October, but it doesn’t look a whole lot different. Inside I sat down and perused a menu.

Yum!

I got the Chicken Pesto Panini, which I have never had before. I chose pasta salad for my side, which I have enjoyed many times.

I enjoyed my meal, as usual. And I have leftovers to enjoy tomorrow.

By the Way, It’s Raining Again

Oh dear, I have the Type It In Backspace It Out Disease.  However, I want to make a blog post, so let us see what I can come up with.

I loves me some dark clouds, yes!

I took this picture of the sky outside my house while waiting for my friend, Kim, to pick me up.  We have had an off and on rainy day.  I felt a few sprinkles when running this morning and heard a downpour earlier this afternoon.  I got the front lawn mowed before the downpour, so that was one thing in my favor.

Not quite pumpkin time yet, but…

Kim and I had a nice lunch at Salvatore’s in Herkimer, NY.  This is a picture from October 2019.  They do not have the fall decor yet, but I hope to see it soon!

A more recent picture.

This is not a picture from today, nor yet a picture from Salvatore’s.  But it is my friend, Kim, having a glass of wine, so I feel it is apropos.

Also not a recent shot.

I went through my Media Library looking for another picture to share and found another shot of storm clouds moving in.  I do so love a thunder storm!  Perhaps we will get one tonight, and I will have a chance to watch a scary movie!

In the meantime,  I am over 200 words.  Phew!  I’ll see what I can come up with tomorrow, on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  Or will I have a Severed Head Sunday?  A little suspense adds interest to my evening.

Weight Loss Goals? What Weight Loss Goals?

The day after making a yummy salad with locally grown produce, we sent out for pizza, wings AND cookies from Salvatore’s Pizzeria in Herkimer. On the brighter side, I can give another shout-out to a local business.  On the darker side, my weight loss goals become merely weight loss daydreams.

It was Steven’s idea.  No, it really was!  I did not try very hard to dissuade him.  In my defense, Steven’s appetite is so capricious these days, when he actually gets a yen to eat something, I feel I ought to encourage it.  Additionally, we like to support a local business.  Stop laughing at me for rationalizing!  As if YOU never eat pizza (you know who you are).

Where was I?  Ah yes, feeling full and happy.  We got a small garlic pizza with sausage and black olives, chicken wings Siciliano, and two large chocolate chip cookies.  I had one slice of pizza and three wings, and, yes, I ate a cookie.  I make no promises regarding the leftovers.

We got delivery, which is always prompt and friendly.  Many of us have been sending out for food more often since the pandemic.  You can get that little frisson of virtue from supporting the local economy.  We are not sending out as often as we did in previous months, so I felt happy to do so today.

I am planning an extra long run tomorrow.  Additionally,  I still have a salad and other vegetables in my refrigerator.  I will get back on the path to my weight loss goals!  In the meantime,  I confess to having enjoyed this evening’s little detour.

Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant is located at 650 1/2 W. German St., Herkimer, NY, phone number 315-866-2600.  You can Like them on Facebook.  I certainly did!
