Friday the Lame 13th

Hello and welcome to Lame Post Friday.   I am sitting on my deck and hoping that my neighbor finishes mowing his lawn soon.  My lawn could probably use a going over, but that is not on my agenda for this evening.  Anyways, the sound of the mower can count as a Random Observation.  Regular readers know how I like to make random observations on Lame Post Friday.

Oh, how nice.  The first fellow finished, and now a neighbor down the street is working on his lawn!  At least it is further away so not as loud. I suppose I seem rather churlish, complaining about those industriously working while I sit at my leisure.  Well, I can’t help appearances.  Perhaps I am churlish.  I believe I also have some socially redeeming qualities.

There, those last few sentences can count as Half-Baked Philosophy, the other component of a true Friday Lame Post.

I am sorry to keep harping on about my health (or lack thereof) issues, but I am once again not feeling well.  I am hoping it is merely allergies and a decongestant at bedtime will set things right.

In the meantime, I will attempt to pep up this post with a picture or two.  I am enjoying the sight of our Brown-Eyed Susan’s peeping over the edge of the deck.

They want to say hello.

Hmm… It’s a better shot of the deck rail, but perhaps you can get the idea.  Here is a picture of the flowers I took earlier in the season.

We think they are pretty.

I am feeling the distinct urge to finish with a monster photo.  It is Friday the 13th.  I wonder if I can find…

I think this was really a Mother’s Day picture.

This is from the Friday the 13th movies, right? For all my love of horror, I am woefully illiterate about ’70’s slasher flicks. No matter.  I see I am over 300 words.  I think that is fine for Lame Post Friday.  Enjoy the weekend, all!

Back to Two Posts Behind: How Lame!

Yes, I missed my Lame Friday Post yesterday.  In my defense, and I guess it’s not much of a defense, I wanted to take a nap before getting ready for a performance of Mornings at Seven at Ilion Little Theatre (I believe I mentioned the play I am in).  Now I am up on Saturday morning, and, ooh, look, its just after seven.  OK, that’s all I got.

Still, blog posts must be made; we’ve gone over that before.

I paused then to go to the bathroom (please do not say TMI, I have a reason for mentioning it). On the way back here, I looked out the window, hoping to make a random observation or two.  Regular readers may remember that I declared Lame Post Friday the day for random observations and half-baked philosophy.

There is a what appears to be a fast food cup in my back yard, right at the back fence.  How did that get there?  Perhaps it blew during one of the wind storms.  I don’t imagine I get many passers-through in my back yard.  One day some little boys were climbing over the fence, but that was a long time ago.  I asked them not to do that, and I don’t think those boys live around here any more.  They would be unlikely to be carrying styrofoam coffee cups during the shenanigans I witnessed anyways (WHY is my computer underlining styrofoam?  That is certainly a word and has been for some time!).

That parenthetical comment could set me up for some half-baked philosophy about what is a word and why does my computer underline some of them, but I am over 200 words.  That is enough nonsense for a late, lame post, I think.  Happy Friday and Saturday, folks.

At Least No Lame Excuses

So there I was, trying to think of a play on words for my title utilizing Lame, because it is, you know, Lame Post Friday (at least, perhaps you don’t know, but I do).  Nothing is coming.

Earlier today I said, “That’s just a random observation.”  I have no memory of what it was, but I remember thinking at the time that my earliest Friday Lame Posts included random observations and half-baked philosophy.  These days they are merely lame.  What can I do?  What can I say?  What lame excuses can I offer?  None, I suppose.

Ooh, here’s a bit of half-baked philosophy:  what is the difference between a reason and an excuse?  Some people accept reasons but scorn excuses.  Others discount both indiscriminately.  I seem to recall reading somewhere, “We have a thousand reasons for failure but not a single excuse.”  That means, I suppose, that however many reasons there are that we fail, there is no excuse for failure.  “You are not excused!”  On the other hand, I also have seen excuses scorned. “There’s always an excuse,” someone says, meaning one has offered something completely lame, and not even on a Friday.  In these cases, I would think a legitimate reason would be more respected.

Then again, why are we even talking about why?  For heavens’ sake, not everyone can succeed at everything! And who cares who excuses me or not? Who is the arbiter of these things, anyways? It’s not like school, where your mother wrote you an excuse, so you did not get in trouble for being absent.  Whether or not you get in trouble depends entirely on what you are trying to succeed at.  I don’t suppose excuses or reasons matter that much in some cases.

In this case, I sincerely hope that is true, because I have neither a reason nor an excuse for this weeks Lame Friday Post. But here it is.  I hope to see you all again Saturday, whatever kind of Saturday it turns out to be.

You’ve Lost that Lame Feeling

When a daily blogger (for example, me) has had a week of stupid posts yet wants to make a post quickly so she can watch Snapped… Oh I can’t keep talking about myself in the third person for the whole post.  My point is: it is Lame Post Friday.  Even though I only had a three day work week this week, I am still feeling Friday, in the lame post sense of the word.

Earlier today I lost Friday.  I was walking down the aisle at work thinking, “And when I come in tomorrow morning…”  I really felt as if I was going to be going to work tomorrow.  And when I reminded myself that I was not, I did not feel the shock of delight I felt the news deserved.  What the hell, me?  So I started singing (only in my head, for the benefit of my co-workers) that song about “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling”  only  substituting “Friday” for “Loving.”  I only got as far as those few words, though, because I don’t know that song very well.

Regular readers may remember that Lame Post Friday is traditionally the home of random observations and half-baked philosophy.  I say “may” and “traditionally” because I am uncomfortably aware that recent Lame Friday Posts have just been, well, lame.  Here is my observation for the day, and I think it veers into the philosophical:  You will often find more peace of mind if you refrain from giving someone a piece of your mind.

And here’s a Freudian typo for good measure:  I first put “peach of mind.”  Would that be more fuzzy or fruity?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

I see that I am over 250 words.  I count that good for a foolish post, and I feel this is right up there with my silliest. Or perhaps I flatter myself. No matter.  Once again, I hit Publish and hope for the best.

The More You Complain, the Lamer the Blog Post

Now my stomach is giving me grief!  I just sat here, staring at the blank “Add New Post” screen, thinking, I CAN’T have three blogger’s sick days in a row!  But apparently I can.  For one reason, I do not want to do two posts tomorrow.  I have a busy day planned.  Yes, wine is involved, judge me if you life, I do not at all care.

I had one of the best dinners I have had in a while at my Mom and Dad’s house.  I think I ate a little too much.  Or something else might be going on.  My stomach has, in fact, been giving me grief off and on all week.  I just haven’t complained about it in this space, because, quite frankly, I have been complaining about everything else and just had not gotten to it. My older sister, Victoria, told me that the more you complain, the longer God lets you live.

How hard can it be to make a post on Lame Post Friday anyways?  A couple of random observations, some half-baked philosophy, and hit publish.  My random observation is:  I have not been writing enough, but I have been obsessed with doing puzzles.  Pencil puzzles, like crosswords, cryptograms, etc.  My half-baked philosophy is that I probably like the puzzles because they occupy my mind and keep me from thinking about things.  Who wants to spend time thinking about things?  Not me!

Oh, my stomach is really, really upset.  I need to stretch out, and I cannot type lying down.  Suddenly this seems like Wrist to Forehead Friday:  I will swoon onto my couch (I don’t have a chaise lounge) in a manner most dramatic, and hope to be better in time to make a Scattered Saturday post.

Pretty Random, Even for Lame Post Friday

I have to get my blog post done in a hurry, because I want to watch Dateline at seven.  It is about a guy who says he is too fat to have committed a murder.  Now if somebody would have said that ABOUT him, he would have been highly offended and probably would have committed a murder just to prove them wrong.

Actually, my throat is a little sore for any real howling.

I was going to put my picture of Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff with Bela saying, “Thank God it’s Friday,” and Boris saying, “You idiot, it’s Tuesday.”  I was going to say, “Ha, ha, it IS Friday.”  Then I remembered the Wolf Man and said, “Hey!”

Did I mention it is Lame Post Friday?  Perhaps you already knew.

I am just going to mention, in the interests of making a random observation, that I have reached the stage of menopause where I am constantly either having a hot flash or feel freezing cold.  Sometimes there is a very brief moment, usually just before or just after a hot flash, when I feel comfortable.  I know, nobody wants to hear my petty complaints about my bodily ills.  Hey, at least I didn’t bitch about the migraine I had earlier.  Oops.

Well, this is a rather useless post.  But perhaps my readers will forgive me if I put in a couple more interesting pictures.

I wouldn’t trust her.

Yesterday I talked a little about the murder mystery I am putting together for the Herkimer County Historical Society. Here is a picture from the one we did last October,  A G.R.A.V.E. Murder.  The hottie in the black dress was a suspect.

Looks like a fun bunch to party with, although one of them is a murderer.

To continue with the murder mystery theme of the day, here is part of the cast of Rubbed Out at Ruby’s, the murder mystery presented by LiFT Theatre Company.  We had been asked to add a little color to a fundraiser for the Landmarks Society of Greater Utica.

Ooh, look at me, I am over 350 words.  That is pretty good for a Lame Friday Post.  Have a lovely beginning of your weekend, everybody.

I Need a Little Monster

Sometimes I just need monsters.  Yes, it is Lame Post Friday, and I am about to post lame.  Traditionally I use Lame Post Friday for random observations and half-baked philosophy, but today I just want to share pictures of monsters.  Perhaps I could randomly observe or half-bakedly philosophize about them.

Ah, Nosferatu, my favorite guy.

Under the heading Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, I thought I would use stuff from my Media Library (I feel so sophisticated, having a Media Library).  I wanted to use this shot because, in addition to being my beloved Nosferatu, the building in the background reminds me of the one that houses Little Falls Antiques Center, as seen from the area where LiFT Theatre Company rehearses for our summer Shakespeare plays.  Wouldn’t that be awesome, if Nosferatu could join our little community theatre group?  Daytime performances might be a problem, but perhaps we could overcome the difficulty somehow.

“To be or not to — oh wait, wrong play!”

Here is an early rehearsal for The Tempest, last summer’s offering (note the presence of scripts).  You can see the building in the background.  Now don’t go saying stuff like, “Those buildings don’t look anything alike!”  You know I hate it when people are so didactic!

I don’t imagine I’ll be doing much howling myself tonight.

I close with a picture that mentions Friday, as I am currently celebrating Lame Post Friday.  I hope you enjoyed today’s lame post.  Have a lovely beginning of your weekend.

Is a Lame Blog Post Useful?

Who knew I would make it to another Lame Post Friday?  Not me on Monday, that’s for sure.  Friday seemed oceans of time away!  Come to think of it, the end of my work day seemed pretty far off earlier today.  Ah, perspective.  There’s a bit of half-baked philosophy for you.  For anybody just tuning in, Lame Post Friday is the day I sometimes indulge in random observations and half-baked philosophy.  I do not know how much I can indulge in anything today, though.  I think my fall allergies have kicked in, big time.

I’m sure many readers can identify with my allergy-related tribulations.  If you have never suffered from allergies, congratulations.  If you suffer from allergies and have never to complained about them… PANTS ON FIRE!!!!  How can you say you have suffered and have never complained???  Oh well, maybe nobody ever said that.  Anyways, I have pontificated before on how I raise concerns, YOU complain, THAT GUY OVER THERE pisses and moans.  But I guess I can admit to a little personal whining.

Where was I?  Ah yes, trying to make some semblance of a blog post, before figuring out what to do with the rest of my Friday evening (ooh, that would be a good blog title, but I think I have already used it).  I feel I must do something useful.  I have a rather full schedule this weekend (remember All Tempest All The Time?  Well, that’s still going on), so I have no time to waste.  Therefore, lying flat on my back, watching the room spin, is not the best use of my time (full disclosure:  I actually tried it earlier, and it just made my back hurt).

The nice thing is, if I do anything useful now, I might be able to blog about it tomorrow.  You, gentle reader, will be the first to know. Happy Friday, everyone.
