I Find it at New2You!

Tonight is the night!  We present A Revolutionary Murder with a new ending and a new Evelyn Ganache, the put-upon assistant to Reuben Maneuse, organizer of the evening’s festivities.  I play Evelyn, whereas when we presented the murder before I played the evil and short-lived Amaretta VonSchnapps.  Of course I needed a new costume.  I thought I had found a good dress at a rummage sale, but when I got it home and tried it on, YUCK!  It showed up all my figure flaws (and believe me, I have a seriously flawed figure!).

After a few failed thrift store visits, I remembered I had a pair of generic black pants.  A plain blue top, paired with a patriotic scarf I had worn with the more flamboyant Amaretta costume would do.  I made my way to New 2 You Consignments in Ilion, NY, where I had previously found many excellent additions to my wardrobe.

Lots of good stuff here.

“I need a costume, but NOT something fabulous,” I told Robbi, the owner, as I walked in.  It was not long before I found just the right thing.  Phew!

I’m the one sitting down.

Just to show you an example of one of my more fabulous finds.  I actually found this the day of the murder mystery, and I have worn it for at least one other murder mystery since.  I think I look rather fabulous in it, but perhaps I flatter myself.

I’m second from the right.

And here is another fabulous find.  This one I wear as part of my regular wardrobe, not just for murder mysteries.  I do like to dress to impress, even if the only one I impress is myself.

New 2 You Consignments is located at 10 Central Plaza, Ilion, NY.

Old Mystery, New Mystery

I am going to have a Way Back Wednesday post but cannot decide if I want to go back to murder mysteries or gardening glories.  OK, my previous gardening endeavors have not been particularly glorious; I was merely going for the alliteration, since one is built in for murder mysteries.  Since I shared flowers yesterday and am concerned with Saturday’s performance of A Revolutionary Murder, I think I will go with the first one.

They are more suspicious than they look.

These are two of the suspects from A G.R.A.V.E. Murder, which we presented in October 2017 to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I was thinking about it last night, because my friend, Chuck, who is in A Revolutionary Murder, said that was one of his favorite characters, an endearingly gung ho ghost hunter (why in the world is my computer underlining “gung”?  I even looked it up!).  Saturday he plays a wheeler-dealer in charge of the evening.

Here’s the whole murderous crew!

Here is the entire cast of A G.R.A.V.E. Murder.  The second from the right is in A Revolutionary Murder as well.  He played a snotty, snobby fellow in the first but plays a gung ho musical theatre aficionado in the second.

Look at the crowd!

One more shot of G.R.A.V.E.  It was one of our best attended performances, which led to some problems being heard.  I hope we will get good attendance on Saturday and help Morning Star make some money.

A Revolutionary Murder will be presented at Morning Star United Methodist Church, 36 Second St., Ilion, NY, on Saturday, May 16, doors open at 5 p.m., roast pork dinner at 5:30.  It is a good idea to get there at 5 p.m. For tickets or more information call Barb at 315-894-4520.

Mysteries are Murder

I am having rather a Wrist to Forehead Saturday.  It is the day of our murder mystery, A Revolutionary Murder, which we are presenting to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society, and not surprisingly, I am quite nervous and absolutely certain that I have not done everything possible to ensure the success of the evening.

It is rather a ridiculous state of mind, I know.  Even if everything goes wrong, which is extremely unlikely, odds are very good that the audience will be entertained and the Historical Society will make some money.  Things to not have to be perfect to be a success.

This was a lovely evening!

For example, here is the cast of Fabulous and Fatal, which we did in 2019.  On the night of the performance one actor suddenly dropped out of the production, and I had to do some fancy re-writing.  Then I forgot a major prop at home.  And yet, everybody had a delightful time.

Another suspicious-looking bunch.

A G.R.A.V.E. Murder was another production that had problems.  The space turned out to be too big for the entire audience to hear.  We had a cordless microphone, which we passed around with some success.  When we did the question and answer part, I ran around the audience with the microphone.  Pretty good trick in high-heeled sandals.  I wouldn’t try it tonight!

Come to think of it, I have yet to decide which shoes I am wearing tonight.  I had better get back to dithering and being nervous.  I hope to refrain from swooning, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead.  For one reason, I do not have a chaise lounge to swoon upon.

I Just Can’t Wait to Kill Frangelica!

I neglected to make my Monstrous Monday blog post, if anybody was watching (or do I flatter myself?).  I had meant to do it early this morning (Tuesday).  Alas, I lacked the oomph.  Right now I lack the oomph to do much of anything, so I thought maybe I could do a blog post.  I could do a Pre-Rehearsal and a Post-Rehearsal Post, making up for Monday and taking care of Tuesday.  I suppose it won’t be monstrous this way, but I think that will be all right.

A rather unsavory bunch.

This is from a long ago murder mystery, Rubbed Out at Ruby’s in 2017.  Actually I talked to a cast member recently who is interesting in reviving it.  I don’t know if I can find the script, but that may not matter.  It was a full house murder mystery so was more improvised than our normal dinner theatre plays.

Another great cast.

I’m sure I have shared this picture numerous times.  It is from A G.R.A.V.E. Murder, also in 2017.  That was a fun one, with a Halloweeenish theme involving ghost hunters.

I think I just figured out how to download pictures on my Chromebook!

Here is the flier for our current murder, Curtains for Frangelica.  I suppose I had better get back to studying my lines now.

It’s a Mystery

OK, we’re going to call Wednesday a true blogger’s sick day.  I came home from work early but even after a nap felt unable to make Wednesday’s post, even a Wuss-Out Wednesday.  Thursday morning, I thought to make Wednesday’s post, felt truly awful, called in sick, did not make the post.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

I apologize for going on about my health issues, but these things do happen, maybe even to you (perhaps not to YOU, you know who you are) (although you might just be lying about it) (never mind all that).  Where was I?  Ah yes, trying to do another Post-Rehearsal Post.  Once again I neglected to take pictures.  Perhaps I could re-share pictures from previous murder mysteries and bill this as a Throwback Thursday Post.

Pretty good gams for a woman my age, or do I flatter myself?

OK, this is not a murder mystery per se.  It is me as a character from Rubbed Out at Ruby’s, a murder mystery presented by LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company in 2017.  We were asked to bring our characters to a Ritz and Ragtime fundraiser at a Rutgers Mansion for the Landmarks Society of Greater Utica.

Here is the entire cast.

At a recent event at The Renaissance Pub in Little Falls, NY, I ran into a cast member of this mystery, and she was interested in reviving the show, if we could find a suitable venue.  Who me, want to portray a rich lush in a 1920’s speakeasy?  Yes, please!

A totally different mystery.

Just to avoid making this an All Ruby post, I add a picture from A G.R.A.V.E. Mystery, presented in October 2017.  One of the suspects from that mystery is again a suspect.  I often work with the same people, because they are just so good to work with.

So I end on a positive note, feeling happy with my cast members.  I hope to give more information about Curtains for Frangelica, but for now, I am merely pleased that I am over 300 words.  Still feeling a little icky but hopeful for tomorrow.  Once again, I thank you for tuning in.

Post Rehearsal and Past Mysteries

I am not sure if I can up with anything for a Post-Rehearsal Post, but I will try.  I just returned from a rehearsal for Deadly Night Life, the interactive murder mystery we are putting on for Salisbury Grange this Saturday.  It went pretty well.  At least, we all had a good time and a lot of laughs.  These murder mysteries are always a lot of fun.

A suspicious bunch I’ve shared before.

Slipping into Throwback Thursday mode, here is a bunch from a murder mystery we did a few years ago, A G.R.A.V.E. Murder.  I had a lot of fun with that one.

Another fun night.

This one, Fabulous and Fatal, actually came up in a conversation tonight.  Of course we always bring up previous theatrical experiences during rehearsal.  Sometimes I have to interrupt the reminiscences to get us back to rehearsing.

Actors at work.

Here is a shot of the show we put on at the Grange last April.  I certainly hope Saturday’s goes as well.

This fabulous lady is in Saturday’s show.

For one last picture, I give you a cast member from both last year and this year’s shows.  I often have repeat cast members.  Could it be they like my scripts?  I can only hope!

Once Again, I Return to the Blogosphere

Last week was a bad blogging week.  I actually have a couple of pretty good things to write blog posts about but not much brain with which to do so.  However, I wanted to make some semblance of a post so my readers would not feel I had completely deserted them.  My last post was a Monstrous one, I think (if I go back and read it now, I may lose my momentum and never finish this post) (which some would feel was no tragedy, but I can’t worry about them).

Random photo to liven things up.

I found this picture in March 2017 of my Media Library.  It is our sweet pooch Spunky.  Speaking of dearly missed loved ones, Sunday was my late husband Steven’s birthday.  That  could explain the funk I have been in.  Grief is a weird, unpredictable kind of chronic pain.  Of course, I am a kind of a pain myself, so make of that what you will.

Steve in his natural habitat, surrounded by murder suspects.

Here is a picture of Steve doing something he loved: acting.  He is the handsome dude in the suit.  It is the cast of A G.R.A.V.E. Murder, an interactive murder mystery we did to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  It was a really fun show.  I am, of course, grateful for all the wonderful memories I have.

We really were the perfect couple.

One more memory:  Fabulous and Fatal, another murder mystery for the Historical Society.  We were drag queens, or thought we were.

I will try to follow this with posts about my Mohawk Valley Adventures, of which I have had a few recently.  As always, I thank you for tuning in.

October Memories

I guess it’s another Late Post Week (when you put it in caps it looks like more of a thing) as I sit here Friday morning making a Throwback Thursday Post.

I love it!

I go back to 2016 and one of the first pictures I ever shared in this blog.  It is from Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit, so I can give a shout-out to one of my favorite local businesses.  I don’t think they had this particular display when I was there last year, but there was still plenty to look at and enjoy.

Isn’t he handsome?

Here is my late, dearly missed husband Steve that same year.  We used to have all kinds of Mohawk Valley Adventures together.

I’ve shared this suspicious bunch before.

Another kind of October adventure was our presentation of A G.R.A.V.E. Murder to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I must do some more work on Lights, Camera, Murder! the next murder mystery, coming up Nov. 11 (preview of coming attractions).

Must work on my front porch!

And here is  my front porch, with past Halloween decorations.  So far this year, I don’t even have lights.  I hang my head in shame.

To complete the post, and the shout-out of the first two pictures, I will add that Pumpkin Junction is located at 2188 Roberts Rd., Sauquoit. They are open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m, daily through Oct. 31.  Check it out!

Memories of Murder

How about a Throwback Thursday Post?  I make it a question, because I am not sure I will be able to actually make the post.  I make it to work these days.  Beyond that,  no promises.

We’ve seen this suspicious bunch before.

I wanted to throw back to murder mysteries, because I was working on another one today.  The above picture is from A G.R.A.V.E. Murder, which we presented a few years ago to benefit Herkimer County Historical Society.  It was a very fun show.

Another shot from that show.

I realized the first picture did not include our friend Jim, who had a pivotal role in the show.  I guess all the roles were pivotal; I just like to use that word to describe acting roles.

A dramatic moment.

Here is a rehearsal shot from another murder mystery, whose title escapes me.  How embarrassing! Then again, I can’t remember everything.

Don’t we all look pretty?

I remember the title of this one: Fabulous and Fatal.  It will always be one of my favorite scripts.

It was a work in progress.

This is a shot from a read-through for Donate to Murder, which also benefited Herkimer County Historical Society.  Eventually.  This picture was taken in March 2020, right before the COVID shit hit the fan.  The show was postponed and had a different cast when it was finally performed.

Regular readers will notice my late husband, Steve, in a few of these pictures.  I so loved working with him. Treasured memories.  I hope it made for a good blog post.

Making with the Memories

If I make a Throwback Thursday Post a day late, that just means I am throwing back by one more day.  Another thing one may judge me on:  I am not going to worry about sharing pictures I have shared before.  For one reason (some may call it a rationalization, but I decline to enter into any such argument), some readers may not have seen the particular pictures I choose or they may enjoy seeing them again.

What a long introduction.  Perhaps I should go back to writing my blog posts in advance and doing a little more editing.  For right now, I’d better make with the pictures.

I’m not taking any of his nonsense.

Here is a throwback to 2012 and the Ilion Little Theatre production of Harvey.  I played Veda.  My husband, Steven, was Dr. Chumley.  How I loved being on stage with my husband!

Again, I was not putting up with his nonsense.

Here we are on stage together again, in Splitting Issues, again at Ilion Little Theatre.  I forget the year and am too lazy to look it up.

I dished out the nonsense in this show.

I was actually looking for a different murder mystery picture, but this is a great theatre memory,  A G.R.A.V.E. Murder, presented at Mohawk American Legion to benefit Herkimer County Historical Society.  That reminds me, I’d better get writing on my upcoming productions.  Off to make more memories!
