Why am I Smiling on Monstrous Monday?

Can I have a Monstrous Monday after having a Many Monsters Sunday?  I think so, and not just because it is almost Halloween.  I like monsters ALL YEAR LONG!!! And, blogworthy activities-wise, I ain’t got much.  I will just mention that after last Saturday’s Haunted Historic Four Corners and the cancellation this Saturday’s murder mystery, I find myself in the rare and unfamiliar state of Nothing I HAVE To Do.  No commitments.  Nothing I need to work on and get done by a certain date.  (Oh well, my article(s) for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  Let’s not talk about that; just let me savor this!)

My teeth are not this good, but I have a similar smile right now.

I have not idea who this wolfman is.  I went to the Facebook page The Golden Age of Monster Movies and looked through the photos for a happy monster.

This is what I looked like a few weeks ago, when I was still trying to cast the murder mystery.

This, in case you didn’t know, is Elisha Cook, Jr., in House on Haunted Hill (1959).  Full disclosure:  I didn’t remember his name and had to look it up.

Since I do not have to begin writing another murder mystery till 2019 (for Morning Star Methodist Church in Ilion, NY in probably April), I can turn once again to writing novels.  I tried it this morning, but things did not go very well.  I have been jotting notes and inventing characters.  I have a few ideas, so I will persevere.  I will let you know how it goes.

I must bear this thought in mind.

I’ll remember this dictum as well.

OK, that was my pep talk to myself.  I will close with another monster, just because.

“Don’t forget about me!”

It was a choice between Michael Myers and Nosferatu.  Jaime Lee Curtis, I love you, but for me, Nosferatu always wins.

The Brain That Wouldn’t Blog

It has not been a particularly Monstrous Monday, so I’ve got that going for me.  What I do not have going for me is much brain power.  What’s that all about, head?  Now is where I usually share the picture of The Brain from Planet Arous, but how predictable of me.  Perhaps I could come up with something different.

Nice side eye.

How about The Brain That Wouldn’t Die?  You can’t see her brain, but she does have one.  It is also known as The Head That Wouldn’t Die, although I think either title is something of a misnomer.  However, I suppose both are catchier than The Brain Whose Maniac Boyfriend Wouldn’t Let Die.  This is why I don’t have a job writing titles for Hollywood movies.

“We want to eat your meager brain!”

Zombies can help demonstrate my current state of mindless.  I am not really up on zombie lore; do they feed on brains or flesh?  If it is brain, they would starve to death on me.  Perhaps I could find a book at the library and find out before I actually meet any zombies.

“This is a good boy!”

And here’s a fellow that got gypped in the brain department.  Igor got the brain for Frederick Frankenstein’s monster from somebody called Abby Normal.  If you’ve never seen Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, I highly recommend it.

So now I have rattled on for some 200 words. Not bad for a chick with no brain.

Monday Monster Musings

I should have known what kind of a day I was going to have when I cut my grapefruit in half and forgot to cut on the equator.  I haven’t done that since my sister showed me after she learned it in Home Economics!  (So I already knew it when I took Home Economics two years later; sometimes it’s not so bad being a little sister.)  So I did learn something today:  it is possible to eat an incorrectly cut grapefruit with a spoon.

I know, other people had other things happen to them — their own fault or otherwise — that were far more uncomfortable, inconvenient, or worse.  But I was struck by my own ineptness and wanted to mention it.

Could this be the reason I mis-cut my grapefruit?

I thought I would add a picture to pep things up and found this little cutie in my Media Library (I tried searching for something new, but had no luck and less patience).  So here we have a Monstrous Monday post.

It is also a Post-Rehearsal Post, because I have recently returned from a rehearsal of A Trivial Murder, the interactive dinner theatre we are putting on to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society (perhaps you read my other blog posts bout it).

Our host doesn’t look like this, but he has a more winning smile.

That is the cover photo on the Facebook event of the mystery.  Murder is pretty monstrous, right?

I hardly ever share this monster, but it is almost Halloween.

Here is another monster who is supposedly human. (Spoiler alert: I’m about to talk about endings of Halloween movies!).  I say supposedly, because I saw Halloween II, where he walked out of a flaming room in flames himself and flopped down on the floor, continuing to burn.  I could buy that he got shot and walked away after the first Halloween; maybe they missed all vital organs and it only looked like a lot of blood.  Those flames would be really hard to live through.  I did not see another Halloween movie till Halloween H2O, and I don’t remember how they dispatched Michael Myers in that one (although I saw it just now when I Googled Halloween H2O to see how to spell “Michael Myers”) (and I still think it’s funny that he has the same name as the guy from Wayne’s World).

So this is my Monday post.  Sufficiently monstrous, I trust.  I hope to see you all on Tuesday, when I hope not to be too Tired.

I Want My Mummy! And Some Dateline

It’s a cheesy headline for a Monstrous Monday.  I’ve just been trolling Facebook for monster pictures I have not used, and I came across a movie poster from a Mummy movie I have not seen.

Cecil Kellaway and George Zucco, what’s not to like?

They may have shown this recently on TCM.  I know there were a few mummy movie on Sunday night I had meant to DVR.  Oh well, I have other things on my DVR I have yet to watch.  So many movies (and Dateline episodes), so little time.

Who would disturb his rest?

Now there’s a mummy, if you like.  I did not notice what movie it was from, but I believe it is Lon Chaney, Jr.   I like the black-and-white, spooky atmospheric quality.

In searching for more mummy pictures, I found about 3,568 of Tom Cruise.  I had the opposite of desire to see that remake.  Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz for me!

He is fine, yes, and so is she!

I like The Mummy Returns (2001) even better.  It is rare that I like a sequel at all, but this one was thoroughly delightful.  I shall close with a scene from it.

I could not wear such an outfit, nor would I try.

Rachel Weisz gets to kick butt in the sequel.  I gotta love a gorgeous woman kicking butt.  Maybe I should go kick a few myself.  But first, I’m going to watch a little Dateline.  Monday is the day OWN shows multiple episodes. I love Dateline.

In the Mood for Monsters

“Ya wanna see my bug collection?”

I need a little Tucker to cheer me up.  This is my friend Tucker in our recent murder mystery, Donate to Murder.  He was very funny.  I hit “New Post” wanting to make this a Monday Moan post, but it’s just a mood and there is no reason to inflict it on my readers (although I know I do sometimes).  So I thought a Monstrous Monday was in order.  When I went to my Media Library (you say “Media Library” in a pretentious tone of voice), this little gem caught my eye. I do feel a little cheerier.  I wonder what other monsters I can find to pep up my post.

Mmmmm… garlic.

I thought I’d throw in a little garlic first, in case I include any vampires.  This is from the Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival in Little Falls, NY, last September.  Good times, good garlic.

“Curses! I forgot my sunscreen!”

It is ironic that the sign says “NO SMOKING” when Blackula is smoking hot.  I may have made that observation before, but even the best of us repeat themselves sometimes.

Christopher Lee is the favorite Dracula of many.

I do love a Hammer horror film.

Oh, he is a fine, scary dude!

You knew I was going to include Nosferatu, didn’t you?  I hope nobody minds a vampire-heavy Monstrous Monday.  After I put in the garlic, I felt kind of obligated. This has been, I admit, another foolish post. In my defense, I am working hard on the next mystery, A Trivial Murder.  More information on that will be forthcoming!  Happy Monday, everyone.

Just Another Monster Day

It seems as if I just had a monster day, and looking back (I am not always too lazy to do so), I see I had Mid-Week Monsters last Wednesday.  Well, today it is Monday and I need monsters.  I just changed my Facebook profile picture to the Bride of Frankenstein.  I commented, “When I take a little trouble with hair and make-up, I’m a whole different person!”

This is not the picture I used for my profile, but I love the saying.

Can I just say, sometimes it is difficult to find the picture you want. Oh, quit playing that miniature violin!  Everybody is allowed to complain once in a while.  Perhaps I take a few extra turns.  These things happen.

Scary!

To continue my post, I went to my Media Library and added the next picture that caught my eye.  Some of the older movies made excellent use of shadows.  And it just occurs to me:  lots of people are scared of the dark, but when it is pitch black, at least you can’t see any frightening shadows.  I’m just saying.   Another observation: I seem to have a lot of pictures of Nosferatu.  Some of you already knew that about me.

I’m with you, Boney!

I see by my word count I am over 200 words.  Miller time!  Figuratively speaking, of course.  I am actually sipping seltzer with lemon and feeling fairly virtuous about it.  Will my virtue last?  A little suspense adds interest to my evening.  Happy Monday, everyone.

Shattered Post with Monsters

I don’t know that you would call us monsters…

This is a fast Monstrous Monday post, because I want to go to bed!  Yes, I am old and I am tired.  Anyways, I led with this picture, because my friend, Kim, is strangling me. It seemed appropriate since SHE kept me out this late!  Just kidding, it wasn’t her fault.  We were at rehearsal for Shattered Angel, the play the Herkimer County Historical Society is presenting in cooperation with Ilion Little Theatre.  Kim and I are helping with the costumes.  Actually, she is doing most of the work. She is SO ORGANIZED!  I should take a lesson.

In the meantime, that doesn’t make this a very monstrous post, does it?  Let me find us some monsters.

I don’t think this lady got her full night of beauty rest, either.

Here’s a picture from Nosferatu I haven’t used so many times.  Regular readers know he is my favorite guy.  He’s scary.

“Was somebody looking for a monster?”

Here’s a more cheerful-looking monster for us.  I’m not sure where this guy is; I don’t even remember where I found the picture.  Still, a smiling Godzilla, what’s not to like?

He looks a little disgusted by the whole exercise, doesn’t he?

And we end with the iconic Frankenstein’s Monster.  Yes, it’s been a dumb post, but I’m tired.  In my defense, before rehearsal I was finishing the script on my murder mystery.  More on that and on Shattered Angel in subsequent posts.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Pepping Up the Post on Muddled Monday

How many thought I was going to use the picture of sad Frankenstein’s Monster saying, “No like Monday!”?  I say too soon, but yet I am doing a Muddled Monday post.  I could not write while at work today; it was too hot and and I was too ate up from the weekend (Hey!  It was a fun weekend, alright?).  Right now I am sitting on my couch in front of a fan watching Dateline on OWN, unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) one we have seen several times.  How I love Dateline on a Monday.

Just a little graphic to pep up the post.

Sorry to have three or four foolish posts in a row, but I’m afraid that is what happens when it is beastly hot and I am on overtime at work.

The look on my face when I realize it is Monday.

I throw in Frankenstein’s Monster, because it is also Monstrous Monday.  You see how I cleverly avoided using the “No Like Monday!” picture referenced earlier but still kept in the Monster and my dislike of Monday.  I feel quite horribly cliche disliking Monday.  Everybody dislikes Monday.  When have I ever been mainstream?  How mortifying!

Oh, the horror, the horror.

I add this poster, because I am horrified by my own following of the crowd.  In fact, it has not been that bad of a Monday.  Unfortunately, I’m afraid it has been that bad of a blog post.  As always, I hope my readers will forgive me and tune in tomorrow, even if I only manage a Tired Tuesday post.

Even Used Monsters Can Help

I so need a Monstrous Monday today.  I’m having the damnedest time writing anything, I’m feeling down and out of it, a few pictures of monsters and some silly remarks will hook me up.  Only I can’t find any new (to me) monster pics.  I was just on Facebook, looking at all my monster pages — oh, wait, I think I missed a couple.

No, it’s no use.  I’ll have to resort to my Media Library and hope I don’t repeat anything too recently used, but no promises.

You can’t really see the monster for the words. There’s a metaphor for writing in there somewhere.

The Blob (1958), how appropriate, because that is just about what I feel like today.  Just a blob. Not even a capitalized one.  In fact, here’s how blobby I am today: I’m writing in sentence fragments, an affectation I rarely use.

THIS is the picture I was looking for on Severed Head Sunday!

I guess these two fellows are more ghouls than monsters, but Peter Lorre and Vincent Price — there could be no possible objection.

With the obligatory sexy, frightened female.

I have never seen this movie but I must look for it.  How I miss video stores!  Perhaps I could find the DVD on interlibrary loan. I don’t have one of them there streaming services.

I gotta get me a nightgown like that.

I close with some zombies.  When I am done sitting on my couch like the Blob, I will lumber to bed like a zombie.  An old fashioned zombie. I’ve never seen any of the more recent zombie flick with the fast moving flesh eaters.

I was right; the monsters did make me feel better.  Happy Monday, everyone.

A Few Monsters to Cheer Us Up

Hello, and welcome to another edition of Monstrous Monday.  I am dead tired and quite frankly inclined to give the blog a miss for tonight.  However, I will feel sad if I do that, and I’m already kind of blue.  Maybe a few monsters will cheer me up.  I was looking on my monster pages on Facebook for something new and discovered this.

What a stylish poster! It doesn’t remind me of the movie at all.

I have Night Tide on a DVD collection, along with The Brain that Wouldn’t Die, The Atomic Brain, and Carnival of Souls.  I must confess, Night Tide is my least favored of the collection.  But maybe I need to give it another watch.  I haven’t done a move write-up blog post in a long time.

Alas, this discovery did not lead me into a theme for this post.  Instead, I found a picture I liked of horror icon Christopher Lee.

I think he looks hurt and confused. I often feel that way on a Monday.

I did not notice which Mummy movie this was from (perhaps The Mummy?), but I know it was a Hammer Production.  I like Hammer horror films almost as much as I like the older ones.

“Isn’t this where the party is?”

Speaking of older monster movies, why don’t we close with my favorite guy, Nosferatu from 1922.  And I see I am over 200 words.  I find that quite sufficient for a foolish post such as this. Happy Monsters — I mean, Happy Monday, everyone!
