Category Archives: Wrist to Forehead Sunday

Sorry, Readers

It’s another Wrist to Forehead Sunday. I don’t have a post written. I don’t have any ideas of what to write a post about. I don’t even have any humorous remarks about Why I Can’t Write a Post Today.

I almost had Wrist to Forehead Saturday. I took out an old spiral notebook and wrote a sentence. And crossed it out. I wrote another couple of sentences and crossed them out. I frowned. Started another sentence. Forced myself to write… each… word… Then when I was folding laundry I came up with the St. Baldrick’s Day idea. Saved!

I walked with my schnoodle Tabby to the post office to mail postcards yesterday morning, thinking that would be worth a post. My husband Steven joined us for another walk this afternoon. The highlight of today’s walk was the memorial for Ape, the police dog who gave his life protecting his human partner from the killer. At least, I don’t know if highlight is the right word. But I don’t feel I can write a blog post about that, or indeed, say anything else about the tragedy today.

Yesterday I had a couple of opportunities for Mohawk Valley adventures, in addition to our post office jaunt, but alas, nothing blogworthy ensued. I didn’t even watch a cheesy horror movie, although a couple good-sounding choices await on my DVR.

So boo hoo for me. And boo hoo for you the reader, as I blather on about these things. Oh well, I guess the blogosphere can survive one more stupid post from yours truly. Ah, here’s something apropos. In the old notebook I was writing in yesterday, I found a crumpled piece of paper with the following quote:

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometime courage is a quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”

I guess what I do doesn’t take a plethora of courage, but, yes, I will try again tomorrow. Hope to see you then.

Unable to Entertain with a Cooking Post

Yesterday (Saturday) I thought to cook something good, so I could do a cooking post today instead of having Wrist to Forehead Sunday. I had some lovely sausage from Dino’s in Utica, NY that was thawed out and ready to go. What to do with it?

Of course, sausage is always good in spaghetti sauce, and I do love me some spaghetti. However, I did not have any green peppers. I have many times made perfectly tasty sauce without green peppers, but for some reason yesterday, I just did not feel that I could. And I was definitely not inclined to go to the store. Oh dear.

I thought, really, wouldn’t it be a good idea to go out to eat? After all, dinner at Crazy Otto’s Empire Diner would support a Main Street business, which I believe I mentioned in yesterday’s post is something I intend to do. I had mentioned dinner at Crazy Otto’s to Steven that morning, and he seemed a little unenthusiastic. Oh, he loves Crazy Otto’s. It’s just that after a long day of work, he would rather stay home, put on his sweats and relax.

Steven was working till 6:30. As the afternoon wore on, I started to think how happy Steven would feel to come home and see me in sweats. I do like to make my husband happy. I was ready for the sweats on, bra off portion of the day anyways. Surely I could cook SOMETHING.

Then I thought of Sausage Balls. We love to have appetizer-y things for dinner! I started to search for the recipe, first pouring myself a glass of wine, because I like to cook with wine.

And then the whole thing came to a grinding halt. We didn’t have enough Jiffy Baking Mix. I was already in my sweats. It was after 6:15.

I suppose as Saturday night disasters go, this was pretty minor. We still had plenty of options regarding food. I talked Steven into one of my favorites: we called Carney’s Corners and got delivery. A Chicken Bacon Ranch Sub and Potato Wedges. We also ate some cottage cheese, which I think goes delightfully with potato wedges (unless you are having ketchup; I don’t care for ketchup on my cottage cheese).

So here I am on Wrist to Forehead Sunday, unable to entertain you with a cooking post. I went to Hannaford this morning, though, so things may be looking up for tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Winter Walk

It seems every Sunday is now a Wrist to Forehead Sunday. I just couldn’t put pen to paper and write a real post. So I fell back on my old standby: Steven and I took Tabby for a walk and I will write about that.

In the last few days, winter has come to the Mohawk Valley, complete with snow. Yesterday I tried to take Tabby for a longish walk. It was a mere grey and gloomy day when we started out. Before we had gone a block, it was snowing. Before we had gone two, it was blizzard conditions. We made it around the block and were happy.

Today the white stuff has been drifting down off and on. It was on when I took my run, but the temperature wasn’t too bad. Maybe a little bad when the wind chill made itself felt. After Steven got home from work a little after one, I asked would he stroll with me and the schnoodle. Eventually he was ready and we set out.

The snow had stopped but the wind had picked up. I had on my insulated sweatshirt and pulled the sleeves down over my hands. Steven had sensibly worn his coat. Tabby, of course, has her natural fur coat on at all times.

We admired some of the neighbors’ Christmas decorations. Steven has plans for our front porch, but they may not come to fruition till after next week. It was gloomy enough to see people’s lights somewhat but not dark enough for them to really show. I enjoy taking Tabby out for her last business meeting of the day this time of year.

Tabby as usual wanted to walk to Herkimer’s Historic Four Corners. I liked the way the graveyard in front of the Reformed Church looked in the gloomy light. Steven admired the wreaths on the light posts. Tabby turned up Main Street towards German so we did not see any more of downtown Herkimer this walk.

We went on up Main Street then over to the path over what used to be a hydraulic canal (which looked more like a nasty ditch, but that was a while ago). The cold wind was getting to my sinuses by this time, but my legs were enjoying the exercise. Tabby seemed happy about it, too.

As we finished the walk, I said, “And now I’ll make my blog post, without apologies!” Then I said, “Who am I kidding? I’m going to apologize! I always apologize!” It seems Lame Post Friday is taking over my week. But I shall persevere! Just last night we watched a Boris Karloff movie I’d like to write about. And I expect to do some Christmas shopping at some interesting local businesses. Please, please, stay tuned.

But It Really IS Wrist to Forehead Sunday!

I know I signed off yesterday promising Mohawk Valley adventures for the foreseeable future. I even had a few yesterday. And today I am EXHAUSTED!

I guess not really. I guess “exhausted” would mean there is nothing left. No brain to think of a word to say. No energy to lift a pen or push a keyboard. Exhausted.

If this was Lame Post Friday, I cold go off into some half-baked philosophy about How We Exaggerate. I’m EXHAUSTED! I’m STARVING! I’m DYING! Some of us go through life in a perpetual wrist to forehead state. I’m trying to confine it to Sunday but, I admit, with indifferent success.

I really had a pretty fun day yesterday. After work, I took my dog for a very pleasant walk. I got a pedicure, and I went shopping in New Hartford with a friend. Then I came home and fixed supper for my husband. Wow! What a woman! (Just kidding. Nobody needs to post lengthy comments on how much MORE stuff THEY did.) (Unless you feel strongly about it; I don’t mind reading lengthy comments.)

Where was I? I don’t really remember, because, as sometimes happens, the act of writing has refreshed me. Or maybe it was the cheese, grapes and apple I’m eating (I’m on a break at work). In any case, I’m feeling better now. I would say the wrist is off my forehead, but you all know it was not really there to begin with (so difficult to eat cheese, grapes and apple with one hand while writing).

And here is where I kind of laugh at myself as a blogger. When I get home, I intend to type the preceding bit of self-therapy into the computer and call it a post. Is this a great hobby or what?

Wrist to Aching Forehead

I checked. A mere three days ago I did a lame post about Why I Can’t Write a Post Today. It’s really too soon for another. Then again, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday. And I have a headache. I want to write this post and not have it hanging over me for the rest of my day.

I don’t actually have a wrist to my forehead. For one thing, I don’t like to type with only one hand. I learned the two-hands-don’t-look-at-them method back in high school and I still find it fun and a little fascinating. Sometimes I just love to feel my fingers going to the right letters in rapid succession.

I really love writing a blog. It makes me write every day, and I love to write. And it is extremely easy to write. I don’t have to worry about what might this character do next, have I included enough clues but hidden them cleverly enough, is this what the teacher really wanted in answer to the essay question (oh yeah, like I ever worried about that one!)?

Some might say it is lazy, self-indulgent and not real writing (whatever that is). I say, oh, be quiet, it’s fun! You don’t have to read it. (Actually, I think it is the critic in my head who said it and she in fact does have to read it, because she is in my head and I’m reading it. I may have voices in my head, but I am not completely disassociative.)

Now I am being silly (say it ain’t so!). I intend to post this then go begin a marathon of watching old movies I can write blog posts about. When Steven comes home we may have a Mohawk Valley adventure that I can also write a blog post about. If only my headache goes away.

Let’s just chalk up today to another Blogger’s Sick Day. As usual, I will try again tomorrow. Thanks for reading!

Tribulations of a Theatre Junkie

This is a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post. Seriously, I have spent at least portions of the last three days inclined to burst into tears at the slightest provocation, and, really, I must admit, the provocations in my life are slight. I really do have a pretty good life: like my job OK, love my husband, have a great dog. And yet, it’s just not easy being me.

I think I mentioned in a previous post being a theatre junkie. Some people might use a less polite word for it, but I think junkie works just fine, thank you. I became secretary of Ilion Little Theatre Club, pretty much because somebody asked me to. I am in two performances of Strike Story next weekend, just because somebody asked me to. And I have been at the theatre for the past two days and will be there this afternoon, because… if you guessed somebody asked me to, YOU’RE WRONG! Nobody asked me to! I volunteered!

Some people would say it is not a wrist to forehead situation when it is your own stupid fault, but I disagree.

I am at the theatre to sell memberships and subscriptions. Last night I also attempted to sell raffle tickets. We are raffling four tickets for our next show. I am, unfortunately, the opposite of a salesperson. I think I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing: I smile, I tell the people what we’re offering, I tell them the price. They say, “No! In fact, you should pay me five bucks for standing here listening to you!”

OK, that’s not really true. People are very polite, and some of them did buy the tickets.

It’s really not that bad of a gig. I don’t know why my wrist is anywhere near my forehead over it, unless it’s that I have nothing to wear. Or that I would really rather be home in sweats, crocheting and watching crime shows on a Sunday. Or that right now it is hanging over my head: I have to be there in two hours. I have to shower. I have to get my stuff together. I ought to be taking care of a few more chores before I go… Oh yes, the wrist is on the forehead.

Well, it’s yet another post for the sake of posting something. I’m not even apologizing for them any more. Oh, well, maybe once more: I’m sorry to post lame again. I’ll try again tomorrow.
