Bad Pictures, Good Eatery

The other day I checked out the other new restaurant in Herkimer, NY, Paradise Eatery.

Must get a shot of the window without all the reflections!

I had been intrigued for some time by “This must be the place” on the front window.  I heard they had opened and stopped by one afternoon.  At the time I stopped they were only serving smoothies, smoothie bowls, or appetizers.  Appetizers are my favorite, so I looked at them first.  I chose Crab Rangoon.  Ooh, were they good!  They came with soy and boom-boom sauces for dipping.

Oh dear, this isn’t the best picture either.

I could have sat out on the patio but opted for the dining room, which was almost empty at the time.  It was just before the dinner rush.  I appreciate beating the rush.

And this one’s blurry! Damn!

I took a picture of the ceiling on purpose, because it is one of the cool ones you often see around here.  As you see, it is not such a good picture.  I am nobody’s photographer.  However, even with lousy pictures, I can recommend Paradise Eatery.  If the other menu items are as good as the Crab Rangoon, you will be in for a treat!

Wuss Out or Shout Out?

It is Wuss-out Wednesday, I’m afraid, but I hope to add a modicum of worthiness to the proceedings with a shout-out to a local business, the Miners’ Table in Herkimer, NY.

Steven and I first went to the Miners Table on a recent Sunday, and I hope to write an article about it for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  In fact, I have started writing the article.  Full disclosure:  I could have finished writing the article without returning to the place, but I wanted to go out.  So did Steven.  So we went.

We sat at the bar, as we did before, and ordered drinks and an appetizer.   I wandered around the restaurant with my Tablet, taking a few pictures.  I will submit the pictures with the article.  I suppose I could also use them in this post, but, like I said, this is Wuss-out Wednesday.

It was a fun interlude for mid-week.  We chatted a little with the bartender. She said it was a great place to work, where they treat their employees well. I told Steven he should apply for a job.  The appetizer we got, Hammer and Chisel Nachos, was as substantial as a meal.  I understand most people order it as a four-person appetizer, but I think it would still be pretty substantial.  The wine was tasty too.

The Miners’ Table is located at the Herkimer Diamond Mines, 4579 State Rt. 28, Herkimer, NY, 315-891-3463.

An Umbrella to the Waterfront

For Lame Post Friday I posted then sipped.  For Wrist to Forehead Sunday, I sipped and now am posting.  Yes, drink and type.  It has happened before, it will happen again.

When Steven returned home shortly after 1 p.m., we were not sure what we wanted to do but eventually settled on Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY.  What a good choice!  When we pulled into the parking lot we had our doubts due to the large amount of traffic.  However, I said we should go into the restaurant and see how many seats were actually available.  After all, the cars could be people taking a Canal Cruise or shopping at Gems Along the Mohawk.

It was raining so we utilized the umbrella Steven had in his car.  It was not big enough for the both of us but luckily it was not that large of a distance from the far end of the parking lot to our destination.  I should perhaps mention that I had donned an elegant outfit that included sandals with a high wedge heel.  They are not very uncomfortable, but, still, a high heel is a high heel.  On the other hand, I was quite pleased with my elegant outfit.

We had a delightful time sitting at the bar, sipping wine and nibbling on appetizers. I mean to write a whole blog post about it, but for right now, I intend to continue sipping.  I am having a wonderful Sunday, not really Wrist to Forehead at all.  I hope you are having a similarly enjoyable time.  Hope to see you again on Mental Meanderings Monday.
