I Hop to the Java Shop

I went to the Java Shop a few times when it was on Main Street in Herkimer, NY and liked it but had not yet visited their new digs on Mohawk Street.  I finally corrected the omission yesterday.

Not the best picture, but you get the idea.

I confess one reason I had not visited yet is that there is only street parking, and I am not good at finding a parking space.  Of course this was the case on Main Street too, but I find parking easier on Main Street than Mohawk.  I guess that’s just me.  Also, the Main Street location was easier walking distance from my house.  I can still walk to Mohawk Street, but it is farther and I have to cross Route 5.  I know, the trials and tribulations of being me.  Some of you are probably playing miniature violins or whistling, “It’s a Hard Knock Life” (you know who you are).

No gumballs in the gumball machine, but I like it.

I ordered an egg sandwich on an English muffin and after some debate decided on regular coffee.  I was going to get fancy and try a latte but decided against it at the last minute.

Plenty of seating.

I sat at a table and started a letter to a friend while I waited for my sandwich.  There is a section with couches, which would be nice to sit at if I was only having coffee.  I wanted to take a picture, but with the sun shining in through the windows, I was afraid it would not come out.

I enjoyed my breakfast very much.  The coffee was delicious, but I must return one day to try one of them there lattes.

Not Much Post But Cute Pictures

I was too tired on Tuesday to make even a Tired Tuesday Post.  I would only have whined for 200 words, as I have done in the past.  It is now Wednesday morning.  I did not take my daily walk (can you still call it a daily walk when you miss a day once a week?), but I thought I would try to come up with some semblance of a blog post.

One thing I have is a couple of cute pictures I took at FarmHouse Restaurant in Ilion, NY, when I went there for a breakfast that I neglected to make a blog post about.

It looks like the creamer is talking to the cup.

I actually did not put creamer in my coffee, but it was so cute I had to include it in the picture.   I ordered a breakfast sandwich, which I did not take a picture of (I will end a sentence with a preposition if I decide to).  However, when I finished it,  I noticed the frogs on the plate.  My husband, Steve, collects frogs.  I took a picture so he could be jealous.

So cute!

Who knows, maybe the frog plates will entice Steve to join me for breakfast one day!

Smooth Coffee before Groceries

In lieu of my usual Tired Tuesday post (anyways, I was pretty tired yesterday), I give a brief shout-out to a local business I have talked about before: Moose River Coffee in Ilion, NY.  Steven and I wanted to do some shopping at our local Aldi’s, so I suggested breakfast out.  Do we not deserve a treat before braving a crowded grocery store?

Moose River Coffee has got to be my favorite cuppa in the Mohawk Valley, and probably anywhere else as well.  It is just SO SMOOTH!  Additionally, I have been dying for a bagel, and I knew they usually have some in the morning.  They had Everything Bagels!  My favorite!  I ordered one with cream cheese while Steven got cinnamon raisin with butter.  We both got a regular coffee.

As we munched and sipped, we looked around at the cozy setting. I love the wooden tables and the cozy couch.  We sat at a tall table this time, but we have enjoyed the couch on another visit.  Silly me to not bring my Tablet and take a few pictures. Ooh, good excuse to go there again soon!

Scattered Sunday follows Scattered Saturday

My fun weekend continues and I hurry to make Sunday’s post before I reach the Wrist to Forehead portion of the day (you know, as Monday becomes more imminent) (and, please, don’t any of you point out that Monday has been imminent since last Tuesday, I have no interest in pursuing any pedantic arguments this morning).

Steven got up early for work, but I lazily stayed in bed another hour or so and got up feeling much more rested than I had expected.  Tracy slept in even later and got up after Steven had left for work.  We decided to go out for breakfast.  After some discussion of our options, we chose The Knight Spot in Frankfort, NY.  They were quite busy, but we had a yummy breakfast of an omelet (Tracy) and sausage on a hard roll (me).

I was driving, so we took a more circuitous route out of Frankfort.  That way I could point out various businesses and landmarks I thought Tracy would be interested in.  We also stopped by the S.S. Maria Addolorata Prayer Garden on Sheldon Avenue.  I have been to the prayer garden before and even written about it for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  With our late spring, however, I wondered what shape it was in right now.  It is lovely.  We walked through and admired it.  I must remember it as a spot to go and sit when I am feeling particularly stressed.

Back home, we stopped at a couple of nearby garage sales, enjoying a very nice chat with a couple of neighbors.  I purchased an old thermos.  I have another old thermos which I love, because it keeps coffee really hot for a very long time.  I feel certain the one I bought today is old enough to be equally efficient.

Now we are merely awaiting Steven’s return from work (it is a short day for him).  He may want to check out the garage sales, too.  We may also go for ice cream.  It’s a beautiful day, and we are having a great weekend.  Happy Sunday, everyone.
