Is It Spooky Season Yet?

I have been making a few late blog posts lately (see what I did there?), and I am doing it again with a Throwback Thursday made early-ish Friday morning.  My early gets later and later as I go, because I find I love staying in bed.  If I wanted to be really productive, I would get up at 2 or 3 a.m., when I am wide awake, but I say, “No, no, I want another REM cycle!” and do relaxations techniques or count sheep till I sleep again.  Then at five or six,  I want to stay asleep till seven or eight.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

I wonder where I put this little cutie.

I delved in my Media Library back to September 2017 and saw several spooky illustrations.  For me and my late, beloved husband Steven, spooky season began after Labor Day, or on years with a late Labor Day like this one, Sept. 1.  Actually, Halloween for us was less of a season than a lifestyle.  I’m sure real goth and horror buffs would laugh at our idea of the macabre, because we loved cheesy horror movies, not gory slasher flicks, and we had no problem with the cutest of Halloween decorations.

Well, maybe one gory slasher flick.

Then again, we loved Carrie, which you could hardly call cheesy.  Actually, I found Carrie more sad than scary.  She was so happy on prom night!  And everybody was NOT laughing at her, just a few of the mean kids.  The thing I found least believable about Carrie was that there was not one misfit kid in that school to befriend her.  I was a misfit kid in junior high, and I had friends.   We weirdos tend to stick together.  Was her school so small she was the only one?  But I had to suspend my disbelief for dramatic purposes.  And I agree with my husband that the gym teacher did not deserve what she got.

OK, here’s a silly one, not particularly spooky.

I add this one merely to honor the recently passed Tim Curry.  My family has spent many hours happily entertained playing the game Clue.  The movie certainly has a stellar cast.

I see I am over 350 words.  Score!  I guess I had better get to work cleaning my house, so I can start decorating for this year’s spooky season.

Help from Pizza and a Friend

I was going to just give up and declare this week Late Post Week when I noticed how low the battery on my phone is. Will I have time to plug it in and get it to 100 percent in AND be able to make a blog post in the morning? I suppose a little suspense will add interest to my day.

Regular readers (I think I still have some) may be wondering why I did not go to the library and make my blog post, as I spoke of doing this morning (when I made yesterday’s post). It is too long and whiny a story for me to share. Also, I don’t come out of it looking very good.

So I guess this is a true Wuss-out Wednesday Post. Hmm… Maybe I could yet salvage something.

At one point earlier this evening I texted my friend Kim and told her I was having a HORRIBLE day (I daresay I was indulging in hyperbole). She suggested ordering food and watching a movie. Brilliant!

While she got ready to come over, I called Salvatore’s Pizzeria in Herkimer and ordered a cheese pizza and chicken wings Siciliano. When Kim arrived, we popped in “Clue: The Movie” (I put it in quotation marks because I do not know how to do italics on my phone). I craved the silliness factor of the movie.

I’ll be honest: The evening was not a miraculous cure-all. Why can’t I have a miraculous cure-all? No matter. I can’t and that’s all. I was feeling better after good food, a few laughs, and most of all time with a friend.

Full disclosure:. Kim was not the only one I reached out to. I also called my parents for some good advice and got it as usual. Additionally I called the Veteran’s Crisis Hotline and am on my way to getting more help. I mention the last to add my little bit to erasing the stigma attached to needing help with our mental health.

And I guess the stigma does exist, because I am quite hesitant now to publish this post. People I know may read it! Then again, why worry? In the first place, my blog is probably not as widely read as all that. In the second place, a lot of my friends and family would probably say, “Oh Cindy, we knew you needed help!”

Slacker Saturday, But Here’s a Scarecrow

I won his hedgehog buddy at a Christmas party for Ilion Little Theatre a few years ago.

Yesterday when I was purchasing some last minute things for our cast party after the final performance of LiFT Theatre Company’s production of The Tempest, I impulse bought a scarecrow.  There he was, in a group of friends or brothers, sitting on a display in the produce department.  It is my first decoration for this year’s harvest season.

So this is a late post on a Saturday, and it is going to be kind of lame.  Perhaps I should have sub-titled it, “And a Little Bit of Tim Curry,” because my husband Steven and I have begun the movie watching portion of the evening, and it has a Tim Curry theme.

I can’t get that smoky eyes look, but I have achieved the red lips.

 

Here is Tim Curry and a couple of friends from Rocky Horror Picture Show, a DVD Steven recently acquired.  I have never seen this movie in the theatre and only recall watching it once on video back in the early 1990’s.  I suppose it is quite the event movie.  I remember it being shown at midnight at the Roxy Theatre in Potsdam, NY, back in the day (you know, the “good old days” when we weren’t good, we weren’t old, and they weren’t days, they were nights).

We watched that one and Steven just put in Clue, another one I never saw in the theatre, but have enjoyed on video and now own on DVD.

It is quite the star-studded cast.

As you may have guessed, I did not do a whole hell of a lot to blog about today.  I don’t care.  I’ve shared a couple of picture and I am going to get back to enjoying my evening.  Happy Saturday, everyone.
