I Wine a Little

Friday nights I often go to Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer for a wine tasting.  It is a nice start to my weekend.  I have been remiss about making blog posts about them, but this past Friday’s was so memorable, I shall make the effort.

The tasting was of Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards in the Finger Lakes.  I love New York State wines!  Additionally,  I have been to Hazlitt.  My late husband, Steve, and I went there on our first Finger Lakes wine tasting tour in 2003.  I subsequently visited with my sisters and Mom on other tours.  I naturally told all this to Brian, the gentleman pouring.

Brian was very personable.  He said he used to have a whole spiel about the wines he poured but found people would rather tell him what they tasted rather than having him tell them what to taste.

“I like to hear about the grapes,” I said, “or hear the story of the wine.” Brian was able to supply this information as well.

He was a little reluctant to have his picture taken, but I think it turned out OK.

I tried several wines, taking my usual sophisticated notes such as, “I like this one.”  I was having a great time chatting with Brian and the other people tasting.  I only wished my friend Kim was there to enjoy the sweet wines.  Hazlitt makes Red Cat, one of her favorites.  Brian promised to return for another tasting, so Kim could be there.

He was giving out koozies of different colors.  He gave me a pink one then added a Red Cat koozie for Kim.  He said to tell her he said hello and thanks for being a Red Cat fan.

I see I have not talked about any of the wines.  There was a variety, ranging from dry to sweet. Perhaps I can talk more specifically when Hazlitt returns for another tasting.

Wine does out a smile on my face!

Since I had taken Brian’s picture, he thought he should take mine.  I feel I am not photogenic, but perhaps my readers will be amused by my goofy grin.

Monstrous Friday?

“You’re asking ME for a blog post idea?”

It’s that sad moment when I do not even feel up to making a Friday Lame Post.  I just sat here, alternately scrolling down Facebook and staring at a blank WordPress Add New Post page, and I really, truly, got nothin’.  I thought if I opened with a picture of Noseratu (1922), it might spark something.  So far, not much.  However, I am up to 50 or so words, so that’s something.

Quick: which one is me?

I throw in a pic from House on Haunted Hill (1959), just to keep the picture-and-nonsense theme going.  We do love House on Haunted Hill.  William Castle, Vincent Price, what’s not to like?

I’m a little cleaner that this chick, at least.

Carrie (1976) is a bit more graphic than either Nosferatu or House on Haunted Hill, but I include the picture, because I feel just about as stunned as Sissy Spacek looks in this shot.  This is one reason that Lame Post Friday is looking increasingly like Monstrous Monday.  How mortifying.  I can’t even think of a good headline incorporating the word “lame.”  Maybe if I add one more monster picture, something will come to me.

So why am I NOT howling?

Yes, what is it with me? Friday night, and I’m not howling.  I’m not out partying heartily till the wee hours.  Is this what getting older is like?  Damn!  Then again, if I stop trying to type something entertaining (or at least) coherent into my blog post, I can sit here with my knitting, and perhaps my Friday will become a little more enjoyable.  In the meantime, thank you for tuning in, and I hope to see you all for Saturday’s post, whatever it turns out to be.

Whiny Babies Need Love, Too

I never feel quite right having a Lame Post Friday when I have to work on Saturday.  As a co-worker sensibly pointed out to me, it is still Friday; they can’t take that away from us.  But I think most Monday through Friday workers can understand how I feel.  People with different schedules are perhaps rolling their eyes and thinking I am a whiny baby.  Well, what if I am?  Whiny babies need love too, you know!

But I must not spend my entire post whining.  How tiresome, even for me.  Anyways, tomorrow is Halloween.  I LOVE Halloween!!!  Steven and I will stand on our front porch to greet the trick or treaters.  After that we shall watch scary movies.  Maybe even something I can write a blog post about (I love writing blog posts about cheesy horror movies).  Work-schmurk!  Tomorrow is going to be a fun day!

Tonight is also not without reward.  I am currently watching my beloved SnappedSnapped, for the uninitiated, is a documentary-style show about female murderers.  I do love a true crime documentary. Snapped is not one of your classier shows, like 20/20 or Dateline, but it’s not a re-enactment-fest like Deadly Women or Lethal Kin, although those re-enactment-fests can be kind of fun too.

So I guess this is my lame blog post for the day.  I whine, I anticipate, I watch television.  This is Friday night at my house.  Hope you’ll tune in again on Saturday.
