Christmas Wrist to Forehead

Oh, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  Not even 10 a.m. and I have dithered enough to send a normal person into a tizzy.  Fortunately, I am an experienced ditherer, and nobody has ever for one minute in my life accused me of being normal.  I have not actually swooned, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead, but let me tell you, I’m close.

I can’t seem to find that necklace. Rats!

What, don’t you decorate your gorilla for the season?  This is actually from last year.  I have not decorated my house nor even cleaned it thoroughly.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

My favorite socks and slippers.

Maybe if I get a few things done, I will feel justified in putting my feet up and taking a rest, as in this picture from 2023.  I went out this morning to purchase wrapping paper, etc.  As I searched for what I needed, I kept hearing Boris Karloff’s voice in my head saying, “It came without ribbons.  It came without tags.  It came without packages, boxes or bags.”  Well, it very nearly did come without tags, because I couldn’t find any for what seemed like the longest time.

We were a cute Christmas couple.

I close with a picture of myself with my late, dearly missed husband Steve.  We were at Salvatore’s in Herkimer, one of our favorite places to eat.  I have not been there in a while.  I do not think they are open on Sunday, but perhaps tomorrow I could stop in for lunch or dinner.  Maybe I will even wear the vest I have on in the picture.

Late But Making with the Monsters

Oh dear, it feels as if it has been days since I make a blog post.  Time is so weird.  Part of me is wondering how it got to be December already while another part feels it has been at least three weeks since Thanksgiving.  However, that is half-baked philosophy more suited to Lame Post Friday than a late Monstrous Monday post.  Let’s make with the monsters, shall we? (We shall!)

Creepy, yes?

I thought I would open with a monster seldom used (is that like the road less traveled?  Discuss amongst yourselves).  I have no idea where I got it; I downloaded it back in 2017.  I would like to make my front lawn look like this, although I do not have a similar amount of space, nor as much cool stuff.

Quite the fashionable skeleton.

I thought I should get a little Christmasy, since it is December, as noted earlier.  This, as regular readers know, is Bonita, our skeleton who likes to dress for the season.  She does not have her Christmas togs on yet this year.  I’ll have to work on it.

Now there’s a Christmas monster!

Boris Karloff is the ONLY Grinch for me; I don’t care how many re-makes they do.  I also like to watch movies where Karloff uses his real voice (as opposed to when he is Frankenstein’s Monster, who is fairly inarticulate).  He says all these creepy things, and I hear in my head, “Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot…”

And now I have babbled on for over 250 words.  Score!  Will I try for a Mohawk Valley Adventure to write about later today or stay home and clean the house?  A little uncertainty adds interest to my morning.

OK, So It’s Not Really Thursday

Was I too tired or too lazy to make my Thursday blog post on Thursday?  It does not matter, but here I am early but not early enough Friday morning, typing frantically, trying to make some semblance of a post while I can.  Full disclosure:  I would have plenty of time if I did not just have to arrive at work early enough to work on an anacrostic puzzle.  Never mind that, let us try for a Throwback Thursday post.

Santa is a voyeur!

I may watch King Kong right along here, only without the Santa hat.  I have always considered it a New Year’s Eve movie, just because we happened to watch it one year on New Year’s Eve.

I don’t suppose that is sheet music to a Christmas carol.

Actually, Nosferatu looks a little like Ebenezer Scrooge, although that is not the Christmas Carol I was referencing in the caption.  I guess I have veered into Midweek Monsters, making this a kind of a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.  You see how flexible I am.

The ONLY Grinch for me! I will die on this hill.

I did not watch any Christmas movies or specials this year, and the only one I missed was Boris Karloff as the Grinch.

Ooh, this brings me to over 200 words, and I still have enough time to fill in a couple of clues on that puzzle.  I hope to see you later when I make my Lame Post Friday post.  How much later is an amount to be determined.

Christmas Memories on Slacker Saturday

Today is a Slacker Saturday and I can only be grateful I am not making it tomorrow morning. The question is: do I have anything to say?

That voice!

I just shared this picture the other day, but earlier today we watched our DVD of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I have said it before and I will say it again: Boris Karloff is the only Grinch for me.

It’s the scariest!

I was so into Boris Karloff, I almost went on to a horror movie with him, but we both wanted Christmas.  I thought of the animated Christmas Carol produced by Chuck Jones.  When I was a kid, I thought it was so scary!  Then they stopped showing it on television.  Many years later, Steven found it on video.  Yay!

Rankin Bass, a cherished childhood memory.

We are now watching Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.  These Rankin/Bass specials were so important when we were kids!  It was so exciting when our favorites were coming on.  How terrible if it was a Sunday when Dad had a football game to watch!  Sometimes he would graciously agree to change the channel if it went into overtime.  It was years before I appreciated what a sacrifice that was!  However, it was usually a moot point, because my show would be on the same channel.

But enough of my silly reminiscences.  For one reason, I am over 200 words.  Score!  I’ve made my blog post!  Which Christmas video should I watch next?

Not Too Tired for Monsters

I had been thinking that the reason I was so tired was that I was not used to working eight hours a day. Then I remembered I have ALWAYS been tired after working eight hours. This is why I have features like Monstrous Monday and Wuss-Out Wednesday. Or my favorite combination of the two, Mid-Week Monsters.

I would love to have a hairdo like that.

Full disclosure: the above picture is the real reason I wanted to have a Mid-Week Monsters Post. Isn’t that awesome?

And here is her husband.

This is a picture I have used before. I just love a monster in a Santa hat.

Two of my favorite monsters!

I have always loved the fact that Boris Karloff narrated How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He is and will always be the only Grinch for me.

Just to include the happy ending.

Some people celebrate Halloween, then move on to celebrate Thanksgiving and then Christmas. I am obviously not of their number. But I think I have shown that I can enjoy my monsters and still be seasonal. Merry Monsters, everyone!

I Want Monsters for Christmas!

Oh, I am tired!  You can play those miniature violins; I know I am whining with very little excuse for doing so.  What a fat baby!  I am a fat baby, too.  My holiday weight gain is becoming apparent, to me at least.

None of this matters in the least.  I have a blog post to make.  I’m thinking it has been a while since I have indulged in a Monstrous Monday post (as usual I am too lazy to go back and check, but at least we know it has been a week).

Who doesn’t love a Christmas skeleton?

I open with Bonita, our skeleton dressed for the holidays.  Isn’t she pretty?

Green and red ARE the Christmas colors.

I was looking for something else, but Frankenstein’s Monster in a Santa hat caught my eye. So seasonal!

The only Grinch for me!

Also not what I was looking for, but what better Christmas monster than Boris Karloff reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas?

A Halloweeny Christmas decoration or a Christmasy Halloween decoration?

I can’t find the picture I wanted, but there is room for one more Monstrous Monday post before Christmas.   In the meantime,  here is one of our Santa Clauses wearing what used to be my favorite Halloween shirt.  It became too worn out for me to wear, but I think it looks fine on Kris Kringle.  Of course we took it off him after Nov. 1.  That Santa now graces our front porch.

I see I am over 200 words, and I feel too tired to bring this post to a graceful conclusion.  How disgraceful of me. Oh well, tomorrow is another day, when I can make another post.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Not a Famous Monstrous Monday

His expression is not as festive as his attire.

Well, why not have a Monstrous Monday on Christmas Eve?  For one reason, I don’t have much else.  I went running this morning, intending to do a Running Commentary.  Steven and I had breakfast at Heidelberg Cafe in Herkimer, NY prior to picking up rolls for tomorrow’s Christmas feast, so I could have done a shout-out to a local business.  Well, sometimes these things do not work out.  Right now I want to get back to celebrating Christmas Eve with my loved ones, so I will attempt to come up with something mildly entertaining at least.

What could be more Monstrous Christmas Eve than Boris Karloff reading “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”?

Here is another Frankenstein/Christmas mash-up: the most famous portrayer of the former reading a classic tale about the latter.  But adding the macabre to Christmas is by no means original to me.  There is even a line in a Christmas song, “There’ll be scary ghost stories…”

Who doesn’t love a ghost at Christmas?

We watched two different versions of A Christmas Carol yesterday and might have watched  a third if I hadn’t pooped out (I only mentioned one in my blog post; do you suppose I should go back and edit?).  It is perhaps the most famous Christmas ghost story.

And now I see that I am over 200 words.  Regular readers know I call that respectable, especially for my more foolish posts.  Happy Christmas Eve and Monstrous Monday, everyone!

On to the Christmas Videos!

I don’t know how good of a Sunday Cinema post this will be, since we only saw one actual movie.  Still, I think I can share a couple of pictures and say a few things that may entertain someone, even if it’s only me.

We started by looking at TCM, where this guy was talking on and on, and I did not pay much attention.  Eventually they got to the movie, which was Crack-Up (1946).  I said, “Don’t we have this?”  Steven thought not.

“I think I’ve seen it.  I must have DVR’d it.”  I used to DVR a lot more movies from TCM, and write blog posts about them.  I must begin doing that again.  However, I cannot do that with Crack-Up, because it turns out I already did, in 2013, in a post called, “Good Job, Leonard!

This is Claire Trevor, who plays the love interest, although she gets to do a few brave, useful things.

The other reason I cannot write much about Crack-Up is that I did not pay too much attention to it.  I know, I often do not pay a great deal of attention to these things, but I was quite delinquent in that respect today.  After the movie, I found Forensic Files, although I was really more in the mood for Snapped.  Steven wanted something more joyful, so he bestirred himself to go up to the attic and bring down some of our Christmas movies.  Soon we were delighting in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Boris Karloff is the only Grinch for me. All others need not apply.

Next Steven chose Christmas Unwrapped, a VHS tape of a special that aired on the History Channel many years ago (at least, I don’t know how many, but it’s a VHS tape, so it must be quite a few, anyways).

Santa by artist Thomas Nast in Harper’s Weekly.

I tried to take a picture of the video cover with my Tablet, but it did not turn out well.  However, this is the Santa Claus that graces said cover.  I do love an old fashioned St. Nick.

After Christmas Unwrapped, I got to watch part of  Snapped episode.  Then I didn’t like the episode that was on next, so I put it on COPS while I made my blog post and Steven did the dishes.  Now Steven is deciding what to watch next while I am over 400 words.  Woohoo, that’s long for a Sunday post!  I wonder if he would like to watch that holiday classic, Die Hard.

PS.  He went another way and chose The Homecoming.

In a Holiday Mood!

How about a Muddled Monday instead of my usual Monstrous one?  For one reason, I am feeling muddled, but kind of pleasantly.  It is a three day week for me (don’t hate on me; I’ve worked plenty of bad hours in my day!).  Additionally, my day at work went by at a fairly good clip instead of dragging minute by minute, as Mondays sometimes do.  After work, I stopped at a couple of stores, taking much longer than I had expected to.  I am so indecisive!

My first stop was at Honey Brook Hobbies in Ilion.  I was looking for a birthday present for my great nephew Sheppie.  He just turned four.  I did not find anything, but I did pick up something that would make an awesome present for any number of people on my Christmas list.

Only one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite Christmas specials!

Well, now that I have published it in my blog, I will just have to keep it for myself.  What is the point of giving a gag gift that is not a surprise?  Anyways, we have some great Grinch-y decorations this will fit right in with, when we get our holiday on around here.

However, Thanksgiving, not Christmas, is the next holiday.  Steven and I are going to my Mom and Dad’s house.  When I got home I was efficient enough to pack in advance.

Well, what do you bring on Thanksgiving weekend?

Now I can just relax till it’s time to go to Rome on Wednesday!

If any local readers are jealous of my Grinch toilet paper, I refer you to Honey Brook Hobbies, 4 E. Main St., Ilion, NY, phone number 315-444-8254.  You can also visit their website at www.honeybrookhobbies.com.  They also have beautiful decorations, yummy baked goods, and more.

I Repeat: I’m Tired!

Oh, is it ever Tired Tuesday!  It is actually a little embarrassing that I am SO tired.  My job is not that difficult, my life is not completely stress-filled, I’m not even that old and unhealthy.  I am, however, one of the kvetchiest babies you are likely to encounter.  Well, I will attempt to make some semblance of a blog post without too much whining.  I wonder if I can find any pictures of tired monsters.  I am almost always in the mood for monsters.

A quick look at Facebook revealed that last July I made a post called Sad Monsters on Tired Tuesday.  I do repeat myself, don’t I?

Well, it is kind of sad, how this big fellow ended up.

Here is an apropos picture, because we almost watched this movie the other night.  I am really into watching old movies lately, especially monster movies.  However, Steven was not really into this one, on account of all the time Fay Wray spends screaming.  He gets a little tired of that.

“Every Who down in Whoville, liked Christmas a lot…”

You know what, I still need a little Christmas.  Since the Grinch is a kind of a monster, and Boris Karloff played a very famous monster, I am still in keeping with my monster theme.

If I continue this post, I will commence to whining in a most unbecoming fashion.  So I am going to call this my Tired Tuesday post for the week.  Well, maybe one more picture.

I am wearing these as I type.

It’s me as The Abominable Snowman.  Sometimes I embrace my inner monster.  Happy Tuesday, everyone.
