I Raise a Glass of Farewell!

I like to use my blog to highlight businesses and attractions local readers can decide to go to themselves.  Today, however, I am going to talk about a business we can no longer visit, as I bid a sad farewell to a Prospect Falls Winery and wish its owners a happy, enjoyable retirement, which I am sure they richly deserve.

There’s a classy place to put a bottle of wine!

I first went to Prospect Falls Winery in 2016 and thought it was pretty awesome.  I went back numerous times as well as seeing them at events such as the Cheese Festival in Little Falls, NY.  More recently, I found their wine available at the Raindrops on Roses Wine Tasting Room in Herkimer, NY.

I was very sad to hear that Nick and Margaret Keblish were retiring and closing the winery.  Of course I wish them well; I could hardly expect them to continue to make wine till they dropped dead.  I was happy I made one last trip to see them before they closed shop for good.

A present to the winery from another fan.

Of course I tasted wine while I was there, and chatted with the owners and a few others who were there tasting or drinking.  I took my last opportunity to purchase a few bottles.

Isn’t that beautiful?

In addition to wine I purchased two wine glasses and a t-shirt.  Silly me, why am I not wearing the t-shirt today?

May they have a lovely retirement!

And so, farewell, Prospect Falls Winery!

Ah Yes, Adventures!

How about a Way Back Wednesday Post? The only question is, how way back of a picture can I find? We shall see.

Cheers!

This is my husband Steve at The Miner’s Table at the Herkimer Diamond Mines, I forget how long ago, but a few years anyways. When I wrote about The Miner’s Table for Mohawk Valley Living magazine, they used this picture with the caption, “Steve toasts Cindy, pricker bush slayer.” In the article, I mentioned we were out celebrating, because I had taken out a pricker bush in our yard that had gotten out of hand.

A quick check of Facebook tells me they open for the season April 15. I’ll have to go there again. I may not slay another pricker bush.

I miss that moose!

Here is a sad Way Back. Copper Moose Alehouse in Little Falls has sadly closed. We had some fine dinners and fun times there!

I wish I was there!

To end on a happier note, here is a place I hope to visit again soon: Prospect Falls Winery. In addition to visiting the winery, we have seen these guys at various events in the region. We usually buy a bottle whenever we have the opportunity. It is really good wine!

I like posts like this, when I have been having a lot of days where all I do is work and go home. There is more to life than work! There are Mohawk Valley Adventures!

Winesday for Mohawk Valley Girl

The duck says, have a glass of wine!

Is it really Wednesday?  My week is dragging by so slowly, I was afraid we would be stuck for a few days on Tuesday.  However, I thought I might try something new:  a Winesday Post.  Full disclosure:  I am enjoying a glass.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

See? A nice small glass!

I add a picture of the glass I am using, because it is from a local business, Prospect Falls Winery.  I LOVE Prospect Falls Winery!   I must get there again soon.  As I type that, I realize there are a lot of places I want to go to soon.  I need more Mohawk Valley Adventures!

Two of my favorite people!

These are our friends Phyllis and Jim.  The wine often flows when we get together, at least for Phyllis and me!  It is not just places I want to visit again, it’s people!

Another person, another place!

Here is my friend Kim at Heelpath Brewing Company in Frankfort,  NY, drinking wine from Rustic Ridge Winery in Burlington Flats.

Same place, different wine.

And here I am, along with Jeff, the proprietor.  I am drinking Untamed Red, from Rustic Ridge.  Kim’s is Sweet Little Blond, appropriately enough.

I think Winesday is a pretty good day, and I hope it makes a reasonably entertaining blog post.

Past Places, Future Plans

How about another Throwback Thursday Post (even though I am posting large enough that my timestamp probably says Friday)?  Last week was a Theatre Throwback, so let me search my Media Library for something different.

Cool place to eat and shop.

Here is a picture from August of 2019.  Was it really a whole year ago I went to the Main Street Ristorante in Newport, NY?  Time for another trip there, I think.

Regular readers know I love all things cheesy!

Another local business I need to get back to: Original Herkimer Cheese in Ilion, NY,  home of Chudder:  tastes like cheese, spreads like butter!  I Like them on Facebook, so I am always seeing their specials.  They currently offer curbside pick-up, so what’s not to like?

Regular readers also know I love wine.

Here’s another great place I’d love to revisit: Prospect Falls Winery.   I’ll have to check if they’re open for tastings again.  Then again, if they are at least open to sell, I can remember a couple of their wines I really like.  Don’t worry: I’ll imbibe responsibly.

Beer is good too.

Here is a place I went to once and would like to revisit: Ommengang Brewery in Cooperstown, NY.  Steven and I went there once and tasted beer but did not take the tour.

There are all kinds of places I need to go to again.  As they slowly reopen, with proper distancing restrictions,  perhaps I shall.
