Mustard Seed to the Rescue!

Yesterday I stopped for a few groceries at Hannaford.  As I was getting some deli meat and cheese, I thought how good it would taste on artisan bread from Fox Tale Artisan Bakery in Little Falls.  Actually, I could not remember the name of the place other than Fox.  What I thought was, “I need to get some of that Fox bread for this!”  I impulsively drove to Little Falls, NY.

Taken on a previous visit.

And found out they are only open on weekends.  Serves me right for not checking first.  To cheer myself up, I went next door to the Mustard Seed, always a favorite stop.  I ha a delightful conversation with one of the owners and purchased a lovely pair of monarch butterfly earrings.  I mentioned that I don’t often wear orange, and she said she often wore black.  Oh yes, they would definitely brighten up a black dress or top.

“They would go good with purple, too,” I said.  I wear a lot of purple. Come to think of it, I do have a couple of orange tops.  Alas, today I put on pink, so I cannot wear my new earrings and take a selfie.  Then again, I am not as beautiful as I say I am, so selfies are not so great.

The bumblebee is the mascot of the Mustard Seed.

I will return to Fox Tales Artisan Bakery, perhaps as soon as this weekend.  They are located at 407 Canal Place, Little Falls, NY, phone number 315-508-5021.  The Mustard Seed is at 401 Canal Place, phone number 315-823-0718.  In addition to earrings and conversation, you can get scents, pottery, spice blends, gluten-free baked goods and treats, and more.

When In Doubt, Add Coffee

And now my headache is back.  I begin my Lame Post Friday Post with a whine.  It is too early yet for wine, which might help my headache but could also cause a worse one tomorrow.  Ah, the trials and tribulations.

Random picture to denote passage of time while I go put on coffee.

I had tea instead of coffee earlier this morning, which is usually fine.  I had a headache, which got worse after I ate breakfast and took some Migraine Relief (with the magic ingredient caffeine, as a boss of mine used to say).  After lying down for a while, my head felt better, so I went for a run.  I did not run yesterday due to a back ache (YES all I do at my age is feel pain in various parts of my body.  Either you know what I am talking about or you eventually will).

Where was I going with this?    What a dull, boring post!

The inspirational bumble bee.

I looked for a more exciting picture to pep up the post and found this from The Mustard Seed in Little Falls, NY, thus adding a shout-out to a local business.  The bumble bee is part of their logo, because of the story that aerodynamically speaking, the bumble bee should not be able to fly, but somehow does.  Thus, the owner of the Mustard Seed never lets anybody tell her what she can and can’t do but somehow does what she does.  I have not been to the Mustard Seed in a while, but it is a very fun place to shop.  There are several fine places to shop in Little Falls.  I must take a drive there soon.

Don’t I look like a little devil?

I close with the wine I mentioned in the first paragraph.  I was wearing that shirt and drinking white wine yesterday, but my hair does not look like that these days.  I started to grow it out when I knew I was going to audition for the play I’m in (perhaps you have read my blog posts about that).  It will probably not stay long.

However, this blog post has gotten a little long for a Lame Post Friday post, approaching 400 words.  And I think the coffee I put on earlier is done.  Can headache relief be far?  In any case, I thank you one again for tuning in and hope I have managed to be at least mildly entertaining.

Must Stop at the Mustard Seed!

I let today go by without leaving the house, thus losing another chance to Christmas shop.  However, I still have some pictures of previous Christmas shopping, so I can give a shout-out to another local business, which local readers still have a couple of days to go to.

This delightful lady will be there!

This is Juli Webster, proprietor of The Mustard Seed in Little Falls, NY.  See how Christmasy she looks!  The Mustard Seed has artisan herbal goods, scents, spice blends, gluten free foods, and more.  I spent a goodly amount of time there chatting with Juli and her mother.  I even wrote an article about the place for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  It is just the sort of distinctive local business they like to highlight.

Cool decor!

The bumble bee is prominent in the store and as part of the logo.  This is because of the story of the bumble bee:  it is not supposed to be able to fly, but the rules of aerodynamics or physics or something (I remember very little of my high school science).  BUT, nobody told the bumble it couldn’t fly, and so it does!  I had heard that about the bumble bee and always liked the story.  I find it inspirational, although people have, in fact, told me I cannot do certain things.  I’ll just pretend they didn’t.

Another bumble bee.

The store is only the Mustard Seed’s latest home.  It has been a staple at area craft and vendor fairs as well as having a store in the building that houses the Stone Mill Inn some years ago.

I highly recommend The Mustard Seed as a good place to shop, for Christmas or for yourself.  They are located at 407 Canal Place, Little Falls, NY, phone number 315-823-0718.
