Boris Karloff, Can You Help Me Now?

I think we all knew today was going to be Monstrous Monday.  At least, anybody who gives any thought to my silly blog knew it.  Anybody who did not think about it is probably not surprised. No matter.  On with the monsters!

Not exactly a monster movie…

This is from Bedlam, starring the marvelous Boris Karloff.  It is only a monster movie in a people-are-the-worst-monsters sort of way.  It is really an excellent flick.  I highly recommend it.

There’s the Karloff we know and love!

OK, here is a real monster,  two in fact. Bride of Frankenstein is billed as “The Monster Takes a Mate,” but it isn’t really much of a love story.

Who doesn’t love Una O’Connor?

Here is another shot from the same picture, just because I love Una O’Connor.  The other person in the picture is of the monstrous variety, Ernest Thesiger as Dr. Pretorius.

I once had a ‘do like that.

Here is a better view of the lovely Elsa Lanchester.  I love her especially in the introductory scene, as Mary Shelley.  “She is an angel!”

“You were looking for me?”

And here is one more of Karloff looking more like Karloff.  I don’t know what movie it is from.  I had thought Arsenic and Old Lace, but he was not in the movie.  Perhaps it was a publicity shot from the Broadway show.

At last I am over 200 words!  Happy Monday,  everyone!

Still Behind, But There Are Vampires

I think I am four posts behind now.  I was two behind for so long I can’t remember when I missed them (I actually think I went to one post behind then back to two a couple of times, but that’s neither here nor there) (I LOVE that expression “neither here nor there”), then I missed July 4th and Sunday, because the Martha Canfield Library was closed and I couldn’t get anywhere with free Wi-Fi.  I tried the library parking lot, which worked before, but no luck this time.

Anyways, those are my blogging and computer woes for the moment.  Further updates as events warrant.

We are home from our sojourn in Vermont, and I am tired.  However, I do not care to be five posts behind.  It is high time I went back to no posts behind.  Unfortunately,  that is not going to happen today.  The best I can do today is throw up a few monster pictures.  At least it will cheer me up.

Who doesn’t love William Castle?

These are not exactly monsters, but I just love this shot of William Castle directing the supposed ghost in House on Haunted Hill (1959).

“Did somebody ask for a monster?”

Here is my favorite guy, Nosferatu.  As I often ask, who could be uncheered by a vampire?

And then there are even cheerier vampires.

I close with a little cuteness, and as usual hope for a better day tomorrow.   As always thank you for tuning in.

A Post with Character?

I am getting totally used to this Tablet posting.   Unfortunately,  that is pretty much all I’ve got to say this evening.  The other problem is I don’t know how to download new monster pictures for a Monstrous Monday post.  Shall I go with previously seen creatures, as I have on numerous occasions? Or just go with some Monday Middle-aged Musings?

“Did somebody mention Monstrous Monday?”

You know that given a choice I will almost always go with my beloved Nosferatu.

In Sunday’s post, which I cravenly made earlier today, I mentioned finding a new approach.  Well, when I got to work,  I decided  to write.   I opened my notebook to a fresh page and started a new novel.  Ahem, what actually happened was I said to myself, “OK, let’s start our novel.”  After a minute or two of thinking,  “Oh, crap,” I started making up character names.  I put a few notes next to most of them.

I really don’t think this such a bad start.  After all, it is all about the people,  as far as I’m concerned. I just need to make them more than names and notes.

Now here’s a character, if you like.

I try to make my characters more than just pretty (or handsome) faces.  I figured this picture combined the Monstrous Monday theme with my novel update.

No Smoking? But this guy is smoking hot!

Just to end on a monster,  here’s one who is also a great character, Blackula!

As for my blog, this post is over 250 words.  Happy Monday,  folks!

So Many Monsters, So Little Time

How about a Monstrous Monday with new pictures?  I am just as tired as I can be and still type.  However, I poked around a couple of my favorite Facebook pages and found a few pics I like.  My theme is Cheesy Movies for Future Sunday Cinema.

Usually people complain about having a target on their back.

This is The Invisible Invaders (1959).  I found it on B-Movie Mania.  I won’t hazard a guess as to what is going on, but if I ever find the flick, I would like to write a blog post about it.

The other two I found on The Golden Age of Monster Movies.  That group is more about the classics than the cheese, but one man’s Oscar is another man’s Oh My God!  (I just made that expression up.  I don’t always resort to cliches, you know).

They say fish is brain food, but are our brains food for fish?

Lee Majors and Karen Black, how bad could it be?  Actually, I don’t quite remember who Karen Black is, but Lee Majors was The Fall Guy!  “Well I’m not the kind to kiss and tell, but I’ve been seen with Farrah,” the theme song began, with a little nudge-nudge, wink-wink, because at one point Farrah Fawcett was Farrah Fawcett-Majors.

Is anybody taking bets?

Many people love a Monster Mash-up (see what I did there?).  I personally do not mind one monster per film, but I am also flexible.  I am also over 200 words.  I’ll call that OK for a Monday and, as always, try for a better post tomorrow.

Still a Post Behind, How Monstrous!

So my brilliant plan of getting caught up on Sunday did not work, but at least I did not get any further behind.  Until yesterday, when I felt myself incapable of making even a Monstrous Monday post.  It is so easy for me to talk myself out of things!  Yes, you may judge me if you are so inclined; it will not be any harsher than my judgement on myself.  In any case, I am sitting here prior to five in the morning on Tuesday (I believe my WordPress timestamp is still messed up), trying to do a post, so that when I post again later, I will still be only one post behind.  Surely I am capable of at least a Monstrous Monday post!  And, yes, I am calling you Shirley.  Live with it.

“You’re up? It’s almost my bedtime!”

Since I say, “Live with it,” I throw in a picture of the undead.  Regular readers know of my utter infatuation with Nosferatu.

Emphatically NOT monsters!

Instead of continuing with the monstrous theme (does that make this Non-Sequitur Monday?  How appropriate, since I am actually making the post on Tuesday) (but I digress), I include a picture of the reason why I am so monstrously tired: Morning’s at Seven, the play I am in at Ilion Little Theatre.  We had a matinee on Sunday, so I was able to get to bed at a decent hour.  However, the collective tiredness of the entire rehearsal and performance process is taking its toll.  At least, we’ll go with that explanation.  Maybe I am just terrible at being a daily blogger.  SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!!!

Must… fight… desire… to… not… make… blog… post…

Back to monsters.  This is Bela Lugosi as The Ape Man, a movie which I do not think I have watched all the way through, wrestling with an actual ape, or at least what is purported to be an actual ape.  I include it as representative of my struggle against my own worser nature (my computer thinks “worser” is not a word but I get a definition when I google it, and I am certain everybody knows what I mean).  The struggle is real.

Ooh, look, I am over 300 words and have three pictures.  I call that respectable for a Monstrous Monday post.  Sorry it is late.  I shall try to do better, perhaps making a post later that is not a mere Tired Tuesday.  But no promises.

I Need My Monsters Today

I thought I could make a quick Monstrous Monday post before segueing into All Mornings At Seven All The Time on Tuesday.  Opening night is Friday.  I am worried rehearsals this week will last late, late, but you’ll have that.

Full disclosure:  I am experiencing a sort of paralysis.  Of the mind and the body.  One of the symptoms, apparently, is to write in incomplete sentences, a style in which I do not usually indulge.  Or do I?  Perhaps I just don’t notice.  Maybe that is another symptom.  The fact is, I keep typing stuff in and backspacing over it, or not even typing it in as I think of it.  I sit here with clenched-teeth determination NOT erasing this paragraph.

“You were looking for me?”

Once again, I look to Nosferatu for help.  Who could be uncheered by a vampire?

“A nice cup of brew and you’ll soon be feeling more the thing.”

Here’s a truly cheerful ghoul, and the cheerful thought that Halloween is coming.  Eventually.  Well, obviously, I celebrate Halloween all year.  I believe I am not the only mortal to do so.

He seems to be hard at work.

I have no idea what movie, if any, this is from.  It was in my Media Library, so I must have downloaded it from somewhere sometime.  Similarly, I have no idea how I got to be over 200 words.  I’ll talk about the play I’m in tomorrow.  And eventually, I will try to start making better blog posts.  In the meantime, may your Mondays NOT be monstrous.
