Wrist to Forehead But Fun

This may be an unusual Wrist to Forehead Sunday post in that I do not feel particularly wrist-to-foreheady (yes, computer, I know that is not a word, yet I do not believe I shall confuse any of my readers).  The obvious reason for that is that I do not have to go to work tomorrow. Yay, me.  Please don’t hate on me, those of you who do.

Since I do not have to work tomorrow, Steven and I went out to have drinks and appetizers at a local watering hole.  I took my Tablet with me, hoping to take some pictures for blog and other purposes.  Unfortunately the first place we tried has been closing on Sundays as of late.  The second place was too busy and crowded. How’s that for opposites?

Finally we went to Lombardo’s Pizzeria in Ilion, NY, where we had a couple glasses of wine and some food.  It was a fun interlude.  Next we went to Asteroga Ale House in Herkimer, where we had another drink and a pleasant conversation with another couple at the bar. Alas I did not take any pictures.  Here is where I fall far short in comparison with other bloggers. Judge me if you will.

Now we are home for what I like to call the bra off, sweats on, movie watching portion of the day.  Or we may watch an episode or two of Snapped.  In any case, I have kept my post-Christmas letdown at bay for yet another day.  Happy Sunday, everyone!

Snapshots from my Weekend

Yes, it is a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I am TIRED from dancing my buns off last night to The Posers at Ilion Elks Lodge.  What a fun night!  Unfortunately, the snapshots promised in the headline are not of that (then again, I would probably be pretty embarrassed if I saw pictures of myself dancing).  I did not bring my Tablet with me, because I knew I would be spending a lot of time on the dance floor and did not want to worry about it.  However, earlier that day I had the Tablet with me and took a couple of pictures.

She so pretty.

Here is my friend Kim demonstrating the proper use of a bottle cozy at Route 51 Beer Belly Bob’s Discount Beverage Center, where we attended a fun beer tasting.  Kim suggested also getting a picture of the bartender.

Yes, that is Bob himself.

We just missed a performance by The Happy Haggs Dance Troupe, but we saw the Haggs about to take a  buggy ride.  I told them I wanted to be a Happy Hagg.  It may happen in 2019.

The unposed shot.

After they realized I was trying to get a picture.

I also had to get a shot of the beautiful horses.

I am not always good at remembering to take pictures.  For one reason, the Tablet is a little awkward.  Maybe I should get one of them there smart phones.  Then again, any phone can’t be smarter than its user.  That’s where I may run into problems. In the meantime, I am over 250 words.  I call that OK for a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I hope to see you all on Monstrous Monday.

The Kind of Murder I Like on Wrist to Forehead Sunday

Hello, and welcome to this week’s Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  We are watching true crime on television but may morph over to Christmas movies later.  I suppose I could wait till later and do a Sunday Cinema post, but sometimes it is best to get these things done in a timely fashion.

One of my many true loves.

I could really get into some Snapped, which used to be on all day on a Sunday.  Alas, they switched to Homicide for the Holidays, but none of those cases were the kind of murder I like.  I like a personal murder, for a good reason, like greed or revenge or being blackmailed.  I’m not into hearing about families gunned down in their homes or serial killers.  However, to each his own, as the old lady said when she kissed the cow.

Right now we are looking at Murder Made Me Famous:  Angry Betty Broderick (I don’t imagine she is any relation to Matthew, but you never know).  I vaguely remember hearing about Betty Broderick when thing happened back in 1989. I was less obsessed with true crime in those years.  I had just started reading true crime books, but television had not started offering so many shows about it. According to this show, Court TV was a thing, but our cable system did not carry it.

I am content to live in obscurity.

So I guess this is my blog post for the day.  I hope this is not the beginning of another bad blogging week. That would certainly be cause for me to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of on wrist to my forehead.  If only I had a chaise lounge handy!

Ready for the Sweats and the Wine

I can’t have Sunday Cinema; I’ve only watched two movies so far and I’m on to Snapped.  I suppose I could watch a third movie and then post, but I want to get this done.  As  I mentioned yesterday, I have knitting to do.  I also want to get back into my sweats.  Well, that is silly of me; I could put the sweats on and then make the post.  No, make the post now before I talk myself out of it.

Some might advise me to stop being a daily blogger if it is such a chore.  I would argue (if I was any good at argument, which I am not) that some things are worth doing even if they are a chore.  They would no doubt reply (I told you I was no good at argument) that most of my posts are probably not worth the effort.  I advise them to seek out more worthy blogs and to leave me alone.  Yes, I have numerous arguments with imaginary critics.

As you may have guessed, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Sometimes I feel like this when I try to sleep.

Earlier, before I was ready to swoon on the chaise and was actually having a pretty good day, we watched The Tingler (1959), produced and directed by William Castle and starring Vincent Price.  I LOOOOVE William Castle movies!  I do not have enough of them on DVD.

She has got his number!

After The Tingler, Steven suggested His Girl Friday (1941).  Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant, snappy dialogue, a fast moving script, it was an excellent suggestion.  I missed parts of it while I fixed us something to eat then made my salad for the week’s lunches, but I have seen it many times before and will no doubt watch it again.

After the movie, I wrote some post cards and walked to the post office with them.  I felt quite virtuous doing this, since I had gone for a long (for me) run this morning.  Come December, I will OWN that Reindeer Run 5K.  And by “own” of course I mean shuffle along toward the back of the pack and enjoy myself.

So I am feeling moderately less wrist-to-foreheady since I see I am over 350 words and I don’t feel this is too heinous of a post.  I think I deserve to put on my sweats and maybe have a glass of wine.  Happy Sunday, everyone.

Alien Invasion on Wrist to Forehead Sunday?

I am in the midst of  perfectly enjoyable Sunday afternoon of my anniversary weekend, and I pause to make a Sunday Cinema post, just so I don’t have to make two posts tomorrow.

I don’t remember this scene in the movie.

We began the movie watching portion of the day with Day of the Triffids (1962), which I just purchased on VHS at a rummage sale yesterday (Saturday).  I saw the tail end of this movie many years ago and thought it was STUPID, laughed my head off at it, thought it was a cheesy movie and that was before I was particularly into cheesy movies.  As it happens, the stuff leading up to the end is less than cheesy and pretty entertaining, although as with many movies of this era, it takes a while to get to the good stuff.

Check out Carolyn Jones, in the back with the blonde hair!

After Triffids, we went to Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), a different kind of alien invasion story.  It is a bit serious, with the interesting philosophical question of whether it is better to feel and to love than otherwise.  I don’t pay too much attention to such things during Sunday afternoon movie viewing.

“Wait a minute! This scene was never in the movie!”

After Body Snatchers, Steven suggested The Birds (1963).  The above was perhaps a publicity shot, although it may have been part of the party scene (don’t get your hopes up; it wasn’t that racy) (you know who you are).  What Halloween movie will we pick next? A little suspense adds interest to my afternoon.

In the meantime, I hope you are all having a lovely Sunday.

And What Will Monday Bring?

What she said.

Yes, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I have had many; I will have more.  At least one more, being today.  I must admit, the above picture is a good way to ensure a really bad Monday.  I am not doing that.  Still, it is an amusing picture which I am sure many can identify with (I can so end a sentence with a preposition) (or a parenthetical comment; I’m flexible that way).

As you may guess, this is not going to be a blog post of much substance.  I do not care at all.  I have had a very pleasant Sunday, after not so great of a Saturday.  Oh, I don’t mean to complain (what a lie; of course I do), but spending most of Saturday with a headache is not going to make this one of my favorite weekends.  I have not had a headache today, but what will tomorrow bring?  Sometimes a little suspense adds interest to my day; at other times, not so much.

I loves me some Snapped!

I was watching Snapped but now it is over and something called Dying to Belong is on.  I am still deciding if I like this one.  I’m afraid all of these shows are getting a little too heavy on the re-enactments for me.  But I am increasingly aware that what I like is not what I am likely to see on television.  As I have often observed, it is not easy being me.

Be that as it may, I see I am over 250 words and by my own rules for my own blog, that is good enough.  I will just end with another picture, just for good measure.  Happy Sunday, everyone.

Oh, that’s right! I was planning to go on a diet tomorrow!

Pop in a Movie; You’ll Feel Better

The movie is not nearly as lurid as the poster.

Yes, it is another Cheesy Movie Sunday.  I guess I never declared that as a category, but I do often watch movies on Sunday and my favorites are the cheesy ones, so…  My only regret is the lack of alliteration, but I can’t worry about that now.  My husband, Steven, and I began our day with a couple of Mohawk Valley adventures, which may form the subject of articles for Mohawk Valley Living magazine or future blog posts. Now we are comfortably home, in sweats, and watching movies.  We began with The Screaming Skull (1958), which I believe I wrote a blog post about at some point.

The movie is on our DVD collection of 50 Horror Classics.  Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959) was on the same disc, so we continued with that.

They don’t even show the Victor Buono-looking guy.

I thought one character in the movie looked like Victor Buono, who played Bette Davis’ father in Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964).  I might have liked to go on to that one, but I was more into shorter movies today.  That is one virtue of your really cheesy features: they are in general short.  We did want something that moved a little faster, and Steven suggested Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959).  Say what you will about this movie, it is NOT the worst ever made. It holds your interest and moves right along.  I say, go, Ed Wood Jr.!

What’s not to like?

As you may have guessed, I am into Halloween movies.  Well, the Halloween season does begin after Labor Day, does it not?  It does in my house.

What’s a big ugly ape gotta do to get a date in this town?

We are continuing our viewing adventures with King Kong (1933).  What will come next?  Who cares!  Tomorrow’s Monday; I’m having fun today!

Full disclosure: I do not feel THIS bad about it.

More Halloween, Please!

I have a LOT of stuff I need to be getting done, but, you know, I have always had the damnedest time getting anything done on a Sunday.  I went to church and got a prayer shawl blessed for the mother of a friend.  I went grocery shopping with my husband.  I made spaghetti sauce for dinner, chopped vegetables and made salad for tomorrow’s lunch, and… OK, that was it.  And I am watching Halloween movies, so I can at least make a blog post with fun pictures.  We started cheesy with Horror Hotel (1960), featuring a young, fairly hot Christopher Lee.

Not the best shot of him, but a pretty creepy pic, I thought.

The movie was in one of our DVD horror collections. House on Haunted Hill was also on that disc.  Of course we have House on Haunted Hill (1959) on a disc all by itself, seeing as it is one of our all time favorites, but I suggested we go ahead and watch it on that disc, since it was already in the machine.

I loves me some Vincent Price.

Next Steven suggested Carnival of Souls (1962), a really trippy, well made, low budget, high suspense horror film.

It’s scary! And far from cheesy.

I got the picture from a cool Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/carnivalofsouls1962/.

And I have missed a bit of the movie while I made this post.  It hardly matters.  I will certainly watch this movie again.  I have declared it Halloween season in my household.  I figure if my fall allergies can kick in so early (and they certainly have!), I can enjoy the fun parts of fall as well.  It makes an excellent way to get through a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

I can’t see where the poster resembles the movie, but you know I never pay much attention to these things.

Carnival of Souls ended before I hit publish, so I moved on to Night Tide (1961), which is on the same disc.

Me, Cary Grant and Boris Karloff

We are spending Sunday afternoon watching movies as we often do.  I tried to do a few useful things earlier:  I went to church, I did a load of laundry, I worked on the script for my murder mystery…  But I have never had much success in being useful on a Sunday.  I’m not much use the rest of the week either, so if you were taking a breath to point that out to me you can just exhale.

Where was I?  Ah yes, about to share a couple of pictures from today’s cinematographic viewing.  We started with Arsenic and Old Lace, just to watch something we don’t pop in as often as other movies we have.  I only wish Boris Karloff had played the character everybody keeps saying looks like Boris Karloff.  I love Boris Karloff.

I think a lot of folks could say this about their families.

I should have looked for a picture of Karloff.  Or I could watch a Boris Karloff movie next.  Right now, though, we are looking at His Girl Friday, just to continue the Cary Grant theme.  Rosalind Russell too, what a goddess!

Ralph Bellamy, too.

We pop in His Girl Friday more frequently, although it is not one of our real go-to movies.  We enjoy the rapid-fire dialogue.  I confess to a little envy when they have coffee with rum at lunch.  I haven’t had spiked coffee in a long time.

There’s our Boris!

Here’s our Karloff in Arsenic and Old Lace on Broadway in 1941.

OK, that’s three photos and over 250 words.  I’m going to call that OK on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Wrist to Sweaty Forehead

Kitty was always my favorite character on “That 70’s Show.”

I did mention yesterday that today would be Wrist to Forehead Sunday, didn’t I?  Well it is, and I don’t have much else to write a blog post about anyways.  For one reason, I’m too hot to think. I am sitting on my couch letting the sweat run down my face, because I let Steven take one of the fans out to the kitchen.  He is doing the dishes and making my lunch for tomorrow, so I think I have the better end of the deal.

There.  I just moved to the floor and rearranged  the other fan so I am getting a little breeze on my back.  I have been suffering a lot from face sweat lately.  Sweat all over, of course, but on my face is where it really seems to get to me.   I keep flashing on certain Facebook memes I saw all winter saying things like, “It’s so cold my face hurts!”  I didn’t care for face-hurting cold, either, but I sure could use a happy medium.

So, yeah, I guess this is going to be a blog post where all I do is whine.  You’ll have that, especially with me involved.  I just have this sneaking feeling that my upcoming week is going to be terrible.  Some will say there is only one person who can change that and her blogging initials are MVG.  I must admit, however grudgingly, that they have a point.  I will also say, in my defense, that I am not the only person on the planet.  I could have the best attitude in the world (which I obviously do not), and somebody could do something to make my life miserable. Please, let’s not argue that they will only make my life miserable if I LET them.  For one reason, if you try to dispute with me in this heat, I will begin to suspect that you are one of those people who are trying to make my life miserable.

Here’s a funny thing:  the act of typing in this silliness has cheered me up.  Monday?  Bring it.  Want to make my life miserable?  I’ll write a blog post about it.

I naturally flashed on this little bit of inspiration.
