Not Really Friday and I Want a Beer!

Look at me, making my Lame Post Friday post on Friday.  Only it is not really a Friday for me, because I have to work on Saturday.   I feel so ill-used!  I know, I know, many people have to work on Saturday.  I used to be one of them.  I mean, I used to have to work every Saturday of my life.  So I must count my blessings that I do not have to work every damn Saturday.

I believe it would make a dull post to spend 200 words complaining about having to work tomorrow,  so I will change the subject.  I know!  I will search my Media Library for a picture to pep things up.

Some people have no perception.

In fact, sometimes I am piddle-puttering.  I wonder if that word is hyphenated?  According to the plaque, lolly gagging and dilly dallying are not.

It often is.

I did have a rather stressful day.  However, I have had worse, and so once again I count my blessings.  I did indulge in a libation when I got home, but it was not beer.  I may go to Beer Belly Bob’s in Ilion, NY, and purchase some one day soon.

I don’t know if the bottom sign is still applicable.

Just to complete my post with a shout out:  Route 51 Beer Belly Bob’s Discount Beverage Center is located at 70 Otsego St., Ilion, NY, phone number 315-895-0936.  They are open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and  Saturday,  11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Frogs and Beer, What’s Not to Like?

Last Friday Steven and I went to Route 51 Beer Belly Bob’s Discount Beverage Center for a tasting with Frog Alley Brewing Company of Schnectady.

We like frogs, and we like beer!

We tasted Vienna Lager, Squints Sour, Harvest Ale, and Mohop IPA. I pronounced all of them yummy. We decided to purchase the Harvest Ale, because it was seasonal.

Rich and Eric.

Rich and Eric, the guys from Frog Alley, were really nice. They told us stuff about the beer and brewing process, and they gave us each a frog sticker!

It all sounded yummy!

Also present was the food truck Brewvey Bites. We had other plans for dinner (this was the night we went to the Brass Tack in Frankfort to hear the Posers), but I took a picture and promised to look for them at future events (it happened soon!)(Preview of Coming Attractions).

I Don’t Whine, I Wine!

Did I mention that I joined a wine group on Facebook?   I think I must have (regular readers will understand that I am too lazy to go back and check).  Well, one reason I was so tired yesterday was that I spent a great deal of time driving around looking for porches to leave wine in front of.  No, I do not have GPS nor yet  smart phone I can look directions up on.  I don’t even have a local street map, if such a thing is still available (note to self: look for a local street map).

It was fun putting these together.

I fixed up six packages.  I had purchased inexpensive wine from Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer and beer from Beer Belly Bob’s in Ilion.  I also utilized the dollar store.  I re-used tissue paper from my collection.  Waste not, want not, I always say.

My first stop!

My first two stops were at friends’ places I had been at before.  And yet I drove by Kim’s house twice before making it there.

I was concerned by the lack of a roof.

I drove away from this place and drove back to take the picture.  It had stopped raining when I left the stuff there, only to start up again later.  Next time, I will cover things in plastic or pick a sunny day for deliveries.

One of the prettier porches I saw.

The above was one of the easier ones to find.  I did not get pictures of the others.  At one, the door opened before I got there.  At another, I was parked in a no parking zone and wanted to hurry.  By the last, I was just done!

It was fun to drive around, except for when I got lost, something I have rather a talent for.  I was glad to spread some cheer.  I may do it again!

Cinema Followed Scattered

I shall attempt a Saturday Cinema post.  We are in fact in the midst of the movie-watching portion of the day.  I am even missing one of my favorite scenes in The Bad Seed as I type this.

Crazy eyes!

Before The Bad Seed, we saw a flick with several killer kids with even crazier eyes: Village of the Damned, screened by Svengoolie.  We DVR all the Svengoolie episodes we can.

I need more rubber chickens in my life.

Before Svengoolie,  we watched one of our all time favorites,  Deathtrap.

Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine, up to no good?

We have not been watching movies all day.  This morning I wrote a few post cards and walked with them to the post office.  I took a long way home, because it was such a beautiful day.  Before leaving for the post office, I put a load of laundry in the washer.  I’m afraid that is the extent of my multi-tasking.  I was happy to be able to hang the laundry on the clothesline.

While the laundry flapped in the breeze, I wrestled the garage door up and hauled out my non-power mower.  Pushing that sucker up and down the lawn is some good exercise.  I figured that would make up for my not running this morning.

I rewarded myself for the yard work with a cold beer, purchased at Beer Belly Bob’s in Ilion (just to sneak in a plug for a local business).  Steven sat with me on the porch while I enjoyed my beverage.  We were both delighted that it was warm enough to do so.

So I guess my blog post has been both Cinema and Scattered Saturday.  Perhaps I should celebrate with another beer.

Snapped to Svengoolie, What’s Next on Scattered Saturday?

I guess I did enough stuff today to qualify for a Scattered Saturday post, but I did not take any pictures, so it will not be such an exciting post as it may have been.

I went for a run this morning.  I have been running all week, but I hope not to be so remiss in the future.  For one reason, I am registered to run the Boilermaker 15K in July.   Training for that will no doubt rate a Running Commentary post.  We shall see.

Later on, my friend Kim and I went to Stella’s Styles in Dolgeville, NY.  I have been there a few times, bit Kim never has.  Alas, we were so busy shopping that I neglected to take any pictures.  This means we must make another road trio to Dolgeville, right?

Back in Herkimer, we went to my house to pick up my husband, Steven.  While we waited for him to get ready, Kim drank a 1911 Hard Cider which Steven and I had purchased after a tasting at Beer Belly Bob’s Route 51 Discount Beverages in Ilion, NY.  I sipped a glass of Black Ink Red Blend, purchased at Ilion Wine and Spirits.

When Steven was ready, we went to Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer for a yummy dinner.  We love that place!

Now we are sitting here watching Snapped.  We may move on to a DVD’d episode of Svengoolie.  In any case, at least I have over 200 words.  We’ll try for some pictures tomorrow.

I Wasn’t Tired When I Tasted

Cute girl with beer, what’s not to like?

So there I was, feeling too tired to make a blog post.  I went to my pictures, wondering if I could come up with something, and my thumb accidentally hit this delightful shot.  This is Emily at Beer Belly Bob’s Discount Beverage in Ilion, NY.  She is pouring us a growler, which we purchased after a tasting recently.

I picked up a couple of stickers and coasters, as I usually do at these things.

The tasting was Buried Acorn Brewing Company, which is located in Syracuse, NY.  Steven and I visit Syracuse on occasion, usually to visit my sister Diane and her family (they live in Liverpool, which is practically Syracuse).  We immediately began to plan when we can go to Acorn with Diane and her husband, Chris.

I thought this was a good pose.

I wanted to get a picture of John, who poured and told us about the brews.  At first he just stood and smiled, which was nice.  Then he reached into the tub for another beer to pour, and I said, “Wait! Smile!”  I’m nobody’s great photographer,  but I liked this.

We tasted a few good brews, but unfortunately I did not take good notes.  This is why I should make my blog posts sooner after I have these Mohawk Valley Adventures.  On the other hand, this is a better blog post than I had thought myself capable of making (or do I flatter myself?).

Buried Acorn Brewing Company is located at 881 Van Rensselaer St., Syracuse, NY, phone number 315-552-1499, web site http://www.BuriedAcorn.com.

Red Shed Brewery at Beer Belly Bob’s

On a recent Friday evening, Steven and I ventured out to Beer Belly Bob’s in Ilion, NY.  They don’t have tastings every week, so we were happy we saw this one on Facebook.  When we realized it was for an area brewery,  we were delighted. I am happy to recommend Red Shed Brewery of Cherry Valley and Cooperstown.

As we walked in, one of the other people tasting said, “She’ll write an article about you!”  I felt famous.

Red Shed would definitely be a good thing for me to write about for Mohawk Valley Living magazine, but I want to visit one of their tap rooms first.  For now I will content myself with a blog post.  David Olson, the man pouring gave me a card, and I have already visited their Facebook page.  I hope to make a trip to Cooperstown soon!

David Olson, one of the folks responsible for some yummy beer.

The first brew we tried was Jessica’s Red.  It won my ultimate accolade of “yummy.”  We went on to Cloudy Girl, which was very fruity.  I did not like it as much as Jessica’s Red, but thought it would be a good summer drink.  The Smoked Porter was heavy, smoky (of course), and very dark  It was tasty, but I could not drink a lot of it.

Steven, enjoying a taste.

Red Shed is only available on draft right now, but we were able to purchase a growler for a very good price.

Snapshots from my Weekend

Yes, it is a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I am TIRED from dancing my buns off last night to The Posers at Ilion Elks Lodge.  What a fun night!  Unfortunately, the snapshots promised in the headline are not of that (then again, I would probably be pretty embarrassed if I saw pictures of myself dancing).  I did not bring my Tablet with me, because I knew I would be spending a lot of time on the dance floor and did not want to worry about it.  However, earlier that day I had the Tablet with me and took a couple of pictures.

She so pretty.

Here is my friend Kim demonstrating the proper use of a bottle cozy at Route 51 Beer Belly Bob’s Discount Beverage Center, where we attended a fun beer tasting.  Kim suggested also getting a picture of the bartender.

Yes, that is Bob himself.

We just missed a performance by The Happy Haggs Dance Troupe, but we saw the Haggs about to take a  buggy ride.  I told them I wanted to be a Happy Hagg.  It may happen in 2019.

The unposed shot.

After they realized I was trying to get a picture.

I also had to get a shot of the beautiful horses.

I am not always good at remembering to take pictures.  For one reason, the Tablet is a little awkward.  Maybe I should get one of them there smart phones.  Then again, any phone can’t be smarter than its user.  That’s where I may run into problems. In the meantime, I am over 250 words.  I call that OK for a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I hope to see you all on Monstrous Monday.

Post Before Dancing

I pause in the midst of my adventures for a Scattered Saturday post.  I went for a run this morning, the first run since the Reindeer Run 5K last Saturday (don’t judge me).  It felt pretty good.  I was going to do a Saturday Running Commentary, but I had other things on my mind.  I wrote my post cards, called my Mom and Dad, and Steven got ready to get moving.

First we went to a big box store that needs no plug from Mohawk Valley Girl.  For one reason, it is the only place around here I can get my yarn. Then we went to Cash for Cans Redemption in Herkimer, where we cashed in some cans we have had for longer than we meant to.  With a little bit of cash in our pockets, we went to Ilion to Moose River Coffee for a little breakfast.  Yum!  It is the BEST coffee!

Then we came home and hung out till the afternoon, when we got together with our friend, Kim.  The first stop was Valley Wine and Liquor for a scotch and bourbon tasting.  Kim did not taste, but Steven and I did. We kind of liked a couple of them, but we bought a little wine instead.  For one reason, the Werewolf Chardonnay with glow in the dark label was on sale for $5.99.

Next we went to Ilion to another tasting at Beer Belly Bob’s.  Bob had told us about it when we were there for the tasting last night.  We tasted several beers and a couple of sodas. Fun and tasty!  Then we went to the Municipal Building to see if we could get one of the horse and carriage rides.  They were almost done giving them, and a number of kids were still waiting, so we tactfully retreated.  We walked to the Knights of Columbus, where I had heard there was a Chinese Auction.  The auction was over, but there were a few booths from the craft fair still operating.  We enjoyed looking over some of the goods.

Now we are home, but only for another hour or so.  Then we are headed to the Ilion Elks Lodge to hear The Posers, one of our favorite bands!  I hope to do a LOT of dancing!  I may be too tired to do even a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post tomorrow.

My Favorite Lame Post Friday

Lame Post Friday is getting lamer and lamer, I fear.  Perhaps I am coming to the end of my usefulness as a blogger.  SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!!!

I have been having a fun evening.  My husband, Steven, and I went with our friend Kim to a beer tasting at Route 51 Beer Belly Bob’s Discount Beverage Center in Ilion. We purchased some beer, of course.  I do not drink as much beer as I used to, but sometimes a beer really hits the spot.

Kim had commitments elsewhere, so Steven and I continued to dinner alone at Salvatore’s in Herkimer.  We had soup and garlic knots.  Yum! Then Steven had a cup of coffee and I inadvisedly had a piece of chocolate spoon cake for dessert.  Oh, was it ever good!  However, it was also very rich and filling.  If I dare to step on the scale tomorrow morning I will no doubt find I have jumped up three or four pounds.

Now we are home, and Steven put in our DVD of Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol, one of his (and my) favorites.

Oh, sure, just give away the ending!

Christmas time is all about revisiting old favorites, isn’t it?  When we got to Salvatore’s, we had to sit in the parking lot to hear the ending of “Do They Know It’s Christmas” by Band Aid.  I love that song and had not heard it yet this year.  Inside the restaurant, we enjoyed more favorites:   “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Sleigh Ride,” and Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,”  as well as another favorite I had not heard yet this year:  Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmas Time.”

Well, talking about that has put me in a sweet, cuddly Christmas mood. I’m going to knit and watch the rest of this Christmas special.  Full disclosure:  next I may watch Dateline.  After all, I still gotta be me. Happy Friday, everyone.
