Is Throwback Thursday Getting Old?

I scrolled through my Media Library in search of pictures for a Throwback Thursday Post. I found a classic car from a car show last summer at the Frankfort Marina. That’s definitely a throwback. I do not know the model or year, but I am guessing sometime in the ’60’s. My Dad would know.

I don’t have any more old car pictures, but here is the poster from an old movie. I don’t remember what year it is and am too lazy to look, but I believe it is 1930ish.

This picture is from recent years (I did not notice the date in my Media Library), but the building is the 1834 Jail in Herkimer, NY. It is one of my favorite places in town, located on my beloved Historic Four Corners. Regular readers know I run or walk by there frequently.

So I have gone from the 1960’s to the 1930’s to the 1800’s. I seem to have gotten historical. Usually I just throwback to my own past. Sometimes a change of pace is nice.

Full disclosure: I am still not feeling 100% from being sick, and right now I feel too tired for my brain to function properly. This is why I was too lazy to look up dates. However, I will feel happy tomorrow that I made some post, any post tonight. I will try for a better post next time. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Something About a Cat…

I thought I could have a Sunday Cinema Post but am not sure if I am able to wax sufficiently eloquent about the movies I saw. I had originally considered a Sunday Running Commentary Post, because I took a good long run early this morning. Then, too, a Scattered Sunday Post might be eligible, because I also did yard work, worked around the house, went to visit family and took a long drive home.

All this by way of introduction to one of my usual Wrist to Forehead Sunday Posts. It has not been a bad day at all, but when I think of all the things I have not accomplished this weekend, I am inclined to swoon.

Then again, what is so wrong about enjoying the weekend and not being super productive? I feel sure Svengoolie would approve, especially since I spent part of today watching DVR’d episodes of his show.

The first Svengoolie we watched was Mystery of the Wax Museum, the precursor to the Vincent Price classic House of Wax. I know very little about the more recent remake, nor do I care to.

It really isn’t such a mystery, but we’ll let that pass.

The second Svengoolie we chose was Shadow of the Cat. I remembered the title just now. It had slipped my mind earlier, hence the title of this blog post. I will let that title stand, however, because I like it.

I got all excited when I heard it was a Hammer Horror. Alas, it featured neither Peter Cushing nor Christopher Lee. It was not a bad flick, but it was not the thrill I was hoping for. Perhaps I was too tired to invest the necessary attention.

I enjoyed more the DVR’d episode of Dateline we watched next. Keith Morrison is fine, yes.

So I reach the end of my Sunday feeling happy enough, because I am not putting my blog post off till tomorrow morning. I put tomorrow’s lunch together as well. I am going to call that a win and worry about all the stuff I did not accomplish later. Perhaps I will not worry about it at all but strive to accomplish all in time. As always, I will keep you posted (see what I did there?).

Movie-ing into 2019

Steven and I are once again spending a quiet New Year’s Eve at home. Sometimes I long to go to a fancy party, dress to the nines, rub elbows with other fancy people, dance, sip champagne and have a balloon drop at midnight. Then I find myself sitting on my couch in my sweats, crocheting and watching movies, and I say, “This is the bomb!” Still, a blog post must be written, so while the current movie plays, I shall type a few words in hopes of entertaining somebody besides myself (of course it will entertain me, but I am notoriously un-fussy in that department).

Steven was enjoying the usual Twilight Zone marathon on Sci-Fi channel, but I confess to not being a fan of that show. I hope that statement does not lose me any readers, but I believe honesty is the best policy. Anyways, he graciously agreed to watch movies instead and we enjoyed The Wasp Woman (1959), which I had DVR’d off TCM recently. I loves me some Roger Corman!

Actually, in the movie she has a wasp head and a woman body.

I wrote a blog post about The Wasp Woman once. I remembered it being fairly entertaining, and it was. I missed some of the movie because I was cooking, so I asked that next we watch a movie we have seen, so I wouldn’t mind being in and out. We settled on Ed Wood (1994). Back when I liked Tim Burton movies.

One of Johnny Depp’s better roles, in my opinion.

Next we went to one of our go-to movies, House on Haunted Hill (1959), the original William Castle film with Vincent Price. I loves me some William Castle!

It has always seemed to me that you could win a fight with a skeleton, because they don’t have any muscles. Just saying.

Next I found a video I purchased at a rummage sale some time ago, Brain Eaters (1958). Unfortunately, Steven found that one rather boring and asked that we switch it out. I suggested Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) with Fay Wray. I consider that a New Year’s movie because in includes New Year’s Day 1933.

I’d scream, too!

And that brings us up to date. I am half watching the movie while I type this. As I am over 350 words, I shall feel free to hit Publish and go back to my crochet. Happy New Year, everybody!

Fay Wray, Can You Help Me Now?

Tired Thursday just does not have the same alliterative charm of Tired Tuesday. And yet, I am just as tired. Well, we all know what I do when I’m tired: I make a blog post anyways! I’ve been trolling my monster and movie groups for new pictures, but I am having no luck and really want to get this post made. I wonder if there is anything in my Media Library I haven’t used lately.

I’ve always had a thing for tall guys with long hair, but this is ridiculous!

I forgot to mention that my clever husband Steven got our DVD/Video player working again. Movies may be in my future! I have not seen King King with Fay Wray in a long time. Steven got me the Jack Black version recently and we have never watched it. Oh, we rented it back when it was first available (wow, was it really so long ago that there were still video rental places? Why yes, a quick check tells me 2005! How the time flies!). That was the only time I saw it.

Is it really better than Dr. X, do you suppose?

I found and downloaded a new picture after all. Thinking of Fay Wray made me think of Mystery of the Wax Museum, another one of my favorites. Wray plays an intrepid girl reporter who cracks wise. I just love an intrepid girl reporter.

Yes, this is how I feel much of the time.

I went to my Media Library and added the first movie picture I saw, because I like to include three pictures. We don’t have The Blob on DVD or video, so I guess One of These Things Is Not Like the Others (remember, from Sesame Street?) Then again, that makes this a Non-Sequitur Thursday, doesn’t it? And over 300 words, which I deem sufficient for a blog post. Happy Thursday and I hope to see you all on Lame Post Friday.
