A 4th of July-ish Post

I am looking at the Snapped 4th of July Marathon on Oxygen and wishing I had some red, white and blue monsters to share, because, you know, Monstrous Monday. I have done nothing blogworthy today, although I suppose I could write about the two mile walk I took this morning. No endorphins were forthcoming.

I spent some time cleaning my house, with a few noticeable results, did a load of laundry, made a salad for the week’s lunches, fixed tomorrow’s lunch. I don’t know why I list all this, except that I find I have pathetically little to say.

A great memory.

I went to my Media Library, hoping to find a picture to pep up the post, and found this gem from July 2017. It is me and my late, greatly missed friend Phyllis, at Gerber’s 1933 Tavern in Utica, NY. I guess that makes this a Monday Memories post. Since the chairs are red and there is blue in my garment (not really sure what to call it) and Phyllis’ jeans, it is vaguely 4th of July-ish. I say it’s at least as Independence Day-y as a true crime show about women who kill.

Who, me? Have a breaking point?

I continue to watch Snapped as I write this, and even took a break to cook and eat some hot dogs. Hot dogs are 4th of July-ish.

Bonita’s boyfriend?

To end on a 4th of July monster, here is a picture I took on July 4, 2021, at Phyllis and Jim’s house. I think I have covered all the bases now: monsters, memories, 4th of July, and I am over 250 words. I say not bad for a Monday holiday post.

Just Make a Monday Post

I just remembered I used to have a feature called Monday Mental Meanderings. I originally called it Middle-aged Musings Monday. Then there was one post called Moronic Monday, but I never made that a feature. All this by way of introduction on a day when I want to make a post, but I ain’t got nuthin’.

Imagine my delight.

I went for a short run after work, a thing I rarely do on Monday. I thought doing something different might shake things up. I did not run very fast or very far (so it wasn’t real different). After my shortened cool-down walk, I walked into my backyard and discovered we have crocuses! Full disclosure: the above picture is from 2021. This year’s flowers look remarkably similar. I also observed a couple daffodils buds. A little joy to my heart.

Unfortunately, spring will also bring bugs.

Mental meanderings and middle-aged musings aside, I did not want to have a completely monster-less Monday. So here is Joan Collins in Empire of the Ants. I would like to see that flick again.

A couple of times today I saw this Facebook meme to the effect, just do something. For example, if you can’t face the whole sinkful just wash one dish. I took this advice to heart. I could not run two miles, but I managed one. I washed and dried a load of laundry, even though I did not fold it. I could not do a really good blog post, but I managed 250 words. Happy Monday, everyone.

Who Me? Mixed Up?

Looking back, I see that last week was a terrible blogging week. However, I can potentially salvage this week, since I have so far only missed Sunday. Some people feel that Sunday is actually part of last week and this week really begins Monday. I can see both points of view.

Are they scary trees?

I was trying to scroll through my Media Library in search of pictures for Monstrous Monday but clearly did not meet with success. Earlier I inadvertently changed my view of said library so the pictures are teeny tiny. I can see more of them at a time but cannot always tell what they are. I saw these spiky red trees and was intrigued. They were in The Knight Spot in Frankfort, NY, which is sadly now closed.

Graphic depiction of how I feel.

This time I went to pictures that were downloaded on my Tablet. We just watched The Blob yesterday. I DVR it from TCM pretty much every time I see it on the schedule. Likewise Mad Love.

Not exactly abominable.

This time I looked at pictures I took and found this adorable snowman. He was at A Little Touch of Country, a new gift shop in Herkimer that I need to write more about (Preview of Coming Attractions).

Oh, score! I am over 200 words! I think I’ll call this a Mixed-up Monday Post and drive on. Is Mixed-up Monday a thing? It is now!

Or Is It Non-Sequitur Monday?

I went on a run after work today, which I very rarely do on a Monday. On most Mondays I let myself off the hook, hence my usual Monstrous Monday.  This week I decided to mix things up.  For another reason, I needed to do laundry, and it is so handy to put the load in the washer, then run till it’s done.

It was a bad run almost immediately, and it did not get much better.  I cut it short, because my back was in screaming pain.  However, I do not mean to complain.  Not too much, at any rate (I know that to some people, any negative peep is too much complaining and I should just stop whining, but do any of those people read this blog?  I’m thinking not).

Pretty! And they smell good!

The highlight of my Monday was the blooming of my peonies.  I had to go out and take a picture.  I thought my readers would take flowers instead of monsters.  Any who are disappointed can comfort themselves with the thought that more monsters will be forthcoming sooner or later.

In the meantime,  I backed up and got a shot of my out of control daisies.

I just can’t bring myself to cut them back.

Then I remembered that I had never taken a picture of the bird house I recently hung on the porch.  I surprisingly got my Tablet to zoom in.  The last few times I tried that, all I would do was change it to selfie mode.

I am not sure a bird could actually live in that house.

I went up on the porch to try for a closer shot.

It is perhaps an awkward angle.

Imagine my chagrin when I saw the price tag showing.  Full disclosure: I did not purchase the bird house.  I found it in one of those canvas dumpsters in front of somebody’s house.  Hey, reduce, reuse, recycle, am I right?

So this is my Mixed-up Monday Post.  Hey, have I just invented another feature?
