Late Post, Even Later Pictures

Well, the Mohawk Valley wasn’t lame yesterday, but I pretty much was.  I was afraid the Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival would be too much of a crowd scene, so I stayed close to home.  I did a little yard word and discovered I have another Rose of Sharon growing some distance from the original bush, and it has a few blooms on it!  I meant to take a picture for inclusion here but, alas, forgot.  I could do it now, but the sun isn’t up yet.

The crown scene in 2018.

As for cleaning the house, I made very little progress.  I managed to write my usual Saturday post cards and walked them to the post office.

A regular stop for me.

Yes, the only picture I could find in my Media Library of Herkimer’s post office was in the wintertime, January 2019 to be exact, and it took me long enough to find that.  Anyways, after the post office I kept walking.  For one reason, I had not gone running (will I go running today?  Good question).  For another, I was low on cash, and Cliff’s Local Market (might as well give them a shout-out too; they are locally owned) has an AmeriCU ATM.  From there it was little trouble to cross the street and enjoy another tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor.  They usually have them from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

Full disclosure: this is not what I tasted yesterday.

This is another photo from a previous event, but at least it is more recent than my previous pictures.  Additionally, it give me a chance to give another shout-out to one of my favorite local businesses, DikinDurt Distillery.

I guess this turned out to be a less lame blog post than I expected (or do I flatter myself?).  And I feel I should appreciate whatever I manage to get done these days.  Will I have any bloggable Mohawk Valley Adventures today?  Hard to say.  It is, after all, Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  But I do hope to make a blog post, and I hope you will stay tuned.

A Few Saturday Shout-outs

In my Scattered Saturday tradition, I will give a few shout-outs to some local businesses I visited recently.  I hope to do more detailed posts about each, but for now, this will have to do.

Fooey! You can’t read the sign!

A new business on Main Street in Herkimer is Petzotics.  they have birds, lizards and other exotic pets.  Also they bring their pets to birthday parties, so the guests can meet them.  Could that be an idea for my birthday party?  Friends, family, what do you think?

I hope not too secret of a hideout!

Godfather’s Hideout, on Protection Avenue in Herkimer, has been open for take-out for a while now and now has a dining room.  I recently went there for a dish of spaghetti, and YUM!  I also had a glass of red wine that was quite tasty.  It’s OK; I was walking.

He could have joined me for dinner.

I have made several posts about Yetty’s, on Mohawk Street in Herkimer, but none recently.  I was there for dinner last night and got garlic pizza.  I am enjoying the leftovers today.  As I left, a little boy was pointing at this lovely fellow looking over the railing.  I never saw him before. Of course I stopped to take a picture.

So, yes, I am trying to get out and about more.  If I can start writing about it more, I will be a pig in shit.  As always, I hope you will stay tuned.

Slacker Saturday due to Snow

I am not doing very well as a blogger these days.  Right now I fear I shall not be able to make a decent post.  And yet one must try (one as usual being me).

I think the snow is even deeper this year..

I add a picture to pep the post up.  I found this picture in my Media Library in February 2021.  I have been experiencing some discouragement over the amount of snow these days.  Of course I must be grateful for help I have received in clearing my driveway and getting my car un-stuck (perhaps you have read my blog post about such experiences).  Well, one can feel different ways at the same time.  It’s called multi-tasking, and I hear it is something we are supposed to do.

“One more thing.”

I change the subject with another picture from my Media Library.  I was supposed to have a rehearsal for the play I am in at Ilion Little Theatre, Prescriptio: Murder,  but it was cancelled due to weather.  The play is the first episode of Columbo, so it is one I was very interested in being involved in.  I will be mentioning it in many future blog posts no doubt.

Performance dates are March 28, 29, 30 and April 4, 5, 6, Friday and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m.

I Cut Myself a Little More Slack

Here I sit, trying to make my Slacker Saturday blog post early Sunday morning.  At least, it is not early for me, but as Sunday mornings go for other people…  Not that I know that much about other people, but I have heard.

I put off making this blog post while I had some coffee, scrolled Facebook, played Solitaire, then read another blogger’s weekly post.  Oh, and I re-read one of my posts from 2012 which I had been thinking about.  I have been writing this blog for a long time, haven’t I?  Or, as Truman Capote famously said, “That’s not writing, that’s typing.”  I fear that lately my blog has become me rambling on, not saying much of any substance, much less sharing Mohawk Valley adventures as I intended to do when I began the blog.

Like KO Grainger at the Herkimer Downtown Chowdown.

I sometimes mention one I am going to write about, then when I sit down with the Chromebook… not so much.  What, I ask once again, is my problem?  More to the point, what is the solution? I confess I do not know.  I am not having much luck with the Do It Anyways method.

Am I too chicken to write?

Yesterday, by the way, was in fact a Slacker Saturday.  I went running, as I mentioned in my late Lame Post Friday post.  I puttered around, doing a little bit of cleaning here and there.  My house, as I have also mentioned, is quite the disaster area.  I express great determination to get it clean one way or another, then wander around, feeling ridiculous for not knowing where to start.  Then I put some things away and hope I have made some progress. Yesterday I discovered the Columbo method of cleaning:  I cleaned for a set amount of time, then when time was up, I said to myself, “Oh, one more thing!”

I am obsessed with Columbo, you may have noticed.

Eventually I wrote a few postcards and walked them to the post office.  It had stopped raining by then.  Returning home, I made some popcorn and watched, you guessed it, a couple episodes of Columbo.  I crocheted while I watched (after I had eaten some popcorn and washed the butter off my hands) (I’m not a barbarian, after all), so I could feel a little productive.

Once again, I have rattled on for an appreciable amount of words (just over 400!).  I shall end with a random picture, so that my Saturday post can be Scattered as well as Slacker.

Will the curtain rise on a new act for the play of my life?

Too dark, but I feel a picture of a closed curtain is always evocative.  It is the Capitol Theatre in Rome, NY, a good place to visit for future Mohawk Valley adventures.

Some Semblance of a Saturday Post

I forgot to make a Saturday Running Commentary Post earlier today after I ran.  I had an enjoyable Saturday after said run.  Not surprisingly to anybody who knows me, the Saturday involved some alcoholic beverages.  I am now at at my house, a little tipsy (I did NOT drive while achieving said tipsiness), remembering how I have been a faithful daily blogger  recently, and thinking it would be a good idea if I made some sort of a Saturday evening blog post.

Just one more thing…

I am watching an episode of Columbo on DVD.  It is an episode I have seen several times before, so I am able to make a blog post while it plays.

Yummy!

Earlier, my friend Kim and I enjoyed a couple of drinks and some food at Yetty’s in Herkimer, NY.  This picture was taken at another visit, which was equally as yummy.

Another Yetty’s photo.

The head is always behind the Yetty’s bar, with different hats and accessories.  This is also a picture from another visit.  Full disclosure:  I did not notice what the head was sporting this time.

Another place, another time, but the same sweet smile!

My friend Kim was my partner in today’s Mohawk Valley adventures.  This picture, of  course, is from a different day, but we had equally as good a time.

Will this count as a Scattered Saturday post?  The content of the post is not scattered, but my brain definitely is. You will have these things on a Saturday. In my defense, I am of age, and I was not driving.   With your permission (or without, as it happens), I will return to my enjoyment of Columbo, and whatever entertainment follows.

Too Tired to Post on Scattered Saturday!

Well, I broke my streak of days in a row posting by neglecting to post anything yesterday.  In my defense, I have no defense.  These things happen, and we must make the best of them.  I took a nice long walk yesterday, ending up at the End Zone pub in Herkimer, NY, one of my favorite watering holes.  I confess to enjoying a daytime libation on a Saturday.  Anyways, I wasn’t driving.  I did not take any pictures, but perhaps I have one in my Media Library.

Here’s one!

This, unfortunately, was not the bartender yesterday.  It is Tino, son of the owner and somebody I am always happy to see, though, so I felt free to share the picture again.  My friend Kim joined me at the End Zone.  After she enjoyed a glass of Moscato, we went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor.  Ooh, I think I took a picture of the pourer on my phone.

She was nice!

Her name was Leigh, and she was pouring all sweet wines, so Kim was happy.  I personally prefer dry wines.  We were especially taken with some carrots she had as decorations. She laughed and said for things she had picked up at the dollar store, they had gotten more attention than the wines.

I must get to the dollar store, although I have far too many decorations in my house as it is.

After the wine tasting, we went to Heelpath Brewing in Frankfort, NY (was it a Freudian typo that I first put “Hellpath”?  My obsession with Halloween and horror!).  It was such a pretty, sunny day, I wanted to sit in a place with lots of windows to look out.

Cheers, Kim!

This is a picture from a different visit, but we sat in the same seats.  We had a very fun afternoon, and I am only sorry I did not write about it yesterday.  But I think you for tuning in today!

Fun Saturday, Late Post

How about a fast Scattered Saturday Post before I go back to enjoying my Saturday.  I feel it is important to enjoy my Saturday and, indeed, to enjoy all my days.  As they say, life is short.  I feel it is longer than they say, yet I agree that we must enjoy now, because more than that is not promised.  Come to think of that, nothing is promised.  Where was I going with this?  Enough with the half-baked philosophy, on with the post.

I did not take any pictures as I enjoyed my day, and I am not sure if I have anything appropriate in my Media Library.  Do I have the dedication to look?  We shall see.

My friend Kim picked me up this afternoon for some thrift-storing and other activities. First we stopped at the Post Office, where I dropped off my weekly postcards that I send to various recipients.

I still don’t know whose car that is.

After the post office, we went to the thrift store at the Methodist Church across the street.  I do not know if I have any pictures of that.  However, I definitely have a picture of Salvatore’s, where we adjourned for lunch after buying just a few really cool things.

Yum!

I guess there was not a whole lot of scatter to my Saturday, yet I had a fun time with my friend Kim.  Back home I watched movies and crocheted, pausing to begin this blog post.  I was unable to finish it, however, and am not trying to do so early Monday morning.  Will I enjoy my Monday, as advised to do in the first paragraph of the post?  An little uncertainty adds interest to my day.

I Slack, I Scatter, It Is No Longer Saturday

It is almost 10:30 on a Saturday night.   I almost never stay up this late any more.  What the hell am I thinking?  The usual answer to that is: I am not thinking.  Which at least makes a change from over thinking.  Sometimes I like to shake things up.

I always kill house plants personally.

Earlier this evening I watched Little Shop of Horrors, the original non-musical directed by Roger Corman.  It is one of my favorites.

Aaand that was as far as I got last night.  I got too sleepy searching my Media Library for a picture of the movie Tormented which I thought I had but could not find so hit Save Draft and left it for this morning.  I slept in till after seven, what a bum!  I haven’t even had coffee yet.

Words of wisdom indeed.

This showed up in my Facebook Memories. I just don’t imagine I made anybody but myself unhappy by not making my Saturday blog post on Saturday.  Then again, I am part of Everybody.

Before I typed in the preceding paragraph, I hit Save Draft again and got myself my first cup of the day.  I put it in a Halloween mug, because as all true Halloween aficionados know, spooky season starts the day after Labor Day.   Then there are those like me, who try to keep the spirit alive all year, hence my viewing of horror movies most of the time.

I see I am approaching 250 words, and I have no idea what to bill this as.  Slacker Saturday because I am making it on Sunday?  Scattered Saturday because the subject matter kind of wandered?  Oh the trials and tribulations!   But as always, I thank you for tuning in.

About That Saturday Post…

Can I make a Scattered Saturday Post?  We shall see.  There is in fact not a lot of scatter to blog about this Saturday.  I had a fun on Friday,  going to a tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor and to dinner at Salvatore’s.   Today I had hoped to make strides in cleaning my horrible house.  Of  course these things are more readily hoped for than accomplished.

Earlier this morning I went for a run,  did a load of laundry and the dishes, even spent a few minutes cleaning my living room.  I was not entirely useless.  I wrote a few post cards and walked them to the post office. I walked by the Elks Club Vintage Car Show in Meyers Park on the way.  Alas I took no pictures.

Fun bartender for me.

After walking to the post office,  I went to The End Zone in Herkimer,  NY  for a libation.  I saw one of my favourite bartenders,  Tino.

I had an enjoyable interlude at the End Zone.  Now I am home on my couch, wondering how much longer I need to blog before I sign off for the evening.

I am thinking not a whole lot longer.  As always, I will try for a better blog post tomorrow.

Lots of Fun on Scattered Saturday

Oh it has been a Saturday!  It has in fact been the sort of Saturday in which I often wait till Sunday to make my blog post.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

I began the day as a pretty much Scattered Saturday.  I went for a run. I had a video appointment with the VA.  I drove to Rome, NY to my parents’ house. I helped my mom and dad with a few lawn and garden chores.  With their help I loaded their bottles and cans into my car.   I returned said bottles and cans with  my friend Kim (plus more of my own and hers).  I had a late lunch with Kim at Yetty’s Pizzeria in Herkimer. We went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor. I came back home, made some popcorn, and started watching cheesy horror movies.  Have I left anything out?

He is so cute!

At Yetty’s in Herkimer, NY, we had Piel, a bartender we have had before and loved.  He is so fun and nice!  We had a delightful time.

I loved her hair!

After our fun time at Yetty’s,  we stopped at Valley Wine and Liquor for a wine tasting of Glenora Winery of the Finger Lakes.  Gabby was the poured.  She graciously agreed to let me take her picture.

I see I have attained 200 words or more.  Score!  I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.
