I’m So Ambitious!

I bet nobody believes that, a quite understandable reaction.  At least the headline makes a change from my usual Wuss-out Wednesday whining.  The fact is, I have just about run out of oomph, but I hope to muster enough to make a blog post before Dateline, which I will probably go to bed before the end of anyways.  I think I will iterate what I did to feel so ambitious, and my dear readers can decide for themselves the truth of my headline.

I worked out after work (I’ll write a whole blog post soon about my new work-out routine, but for now just know that I sweated).   I got home, showered, and checked Facebook and email while sipping my recovery beverage of chocolate milk. Yum!  But I had to tear myself away from the computer to start dinner so it would have time to cook before my husband Steven got home.

I chopped up an onion and two potatoes, and put them in a casserole dish with garlic oil.  The garlic oil is some I made last week in the blender with fresh garlic and dried spices.  I always make more than I need for the recipe at hand so I can use it in subsequent cooking adventures.  I put the casserole dish in the oven at 350 degrees, planning to stir it every 15 minutes and add ham chunks when the potatoes were almost done.  The ham was leftover from Easter dinner at my Mom and Dad’s house.  Waste not, want not!

While dinner cooked, I made some cocktail sauce, using my mother’s recipe and going heavy on the horseradish.  I put it in the fridge for the flavors to blend.  I had it in mind to put it on some fake crab meat for one of my snacks at work.  Raw celery and radishes are just not cutting it, and I am out of celery anyways.  Then I remembered I was going to boil some eggs, for breakfast or snack purposes.

Soon the eggs were cooking, the ham was in with the potatoes and onion, and I had put the crab meat with cocktail sauce into a container.  When taste testing, I found I had gone too heavy with the horseradish so added extra ketchup and chili sauce.  Oh, I was doing great!   When the egg water reached a boil, I turned off the burner and covered the pot.  I had good luck with that method the last time I made hard-boiled eggs.   I also turned off the oven, so the casserole would stay hot but not overcook.

I got back on the computer, thinking to make my blog post, then remembered I have a murder mystery to type in.  I got one character sheet typed in by the time Steven got home.  I thought that, in addition to the other stuff I did, on a Wuss-out Wednesday, was not bad.  But perhaps I flatter myself.  In any case, I am getting close to 500 words.  That is a long blog post for me!  I think I deserve to knit and watch Dateline.

Most of the Time, I’m a Regular Fool

So I guess my stomach problems yesterday were not purely nerves.  At least, I seemed OK during the murder mystery (which was a blast, by the way) and not bad this morning, but as soon as I ate something… well, these things happen, I suppose.  I really hate to make another blog post whining about my petty health complaints. I will try not to whine but merely state the facts.  Then again, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  Perhaps a “woe is me” followed by a swoon is appropriate.

Most of the audience seemed to really enjoy Secrets at Suiter House, our murder mystery, last night.  Now I must rush headlong into the next, Spring into Murder.  I’ll have more blog posts about that, no doubt.  Theatre is my life!  Part of my life, anyways.

I had a very nice Easter dinner with some members of my family.  My stomach allowed me to partake of ham, cheesy potatoes, and Heidelberg rolls, among other treats.  I admit it: I am rarely too ill to eat.  I keep thinking if I eat the right thing, it will make me feel better.  This explains my continued failure to meet my weight-loss goals.

However, as I often say, tomorrow is another day.  I guess a lot of people have said that.  How embarrassing to resort to cliche.  Well, what do you people expect of me when I have a bad stomach on Wrist to Forehead Sunday?  I can’t be profound under these circumstances!  But apparently I can make a blog post, however foolish.  Hey, I just remembered something else:  it’s April Fool’s Day.  That’s it!  I’m just an April fool.  Happy Easter, everybody.

My Sinuses Say Spring

I avoided Tired Tuesday but I am SO going to have a Wuss-out Wednesday.  Sorry, folks.  I’m not sure, but I THINK because the temperatures went back up into the 40’s, my sinuses decided it was indeed spring and time for the allergies to kick in.  I have killer allergies in the spring.  And in the fall, and much of the rest of the year, but never mind that.  I feel like crap!  But never mind whining about something that happens all the time anyways.  On with the blog post.

I managed to go for a nice long walk after work today, in the interests of exercising for my health.  I thought I could manage a Pedestrian Post, but  things were not all that memorable, especially my thoughts at the time.  I neglected to take my Tablet with me to take pictures, which might have helped.  Then again, the last time I was on my Tablet trying to take a picture, I couldn’t get it out of “selfie” mode.  As regular readers know, I am not technologically adept.

Still, pictures always pep up a dull post.  Do I have anything in my Media Library I haven’t used recently?  Let me look.

This is what I’d LIKE to see!

This is a picture from my yard taken last spring.  Um, much later in the spring than now.  I feel a little ill-used, suffering from spring allergies without actual spring, other than the 40-degree weather I mentioned earlier.

Be all that as it may, I see I am over 200 words.  I call that not bad for a blogger’s sick day.  I hope to see you all on Non-Sequitur Thursday.  At least, it will be like a Friday for me, because I have Good Friday off, so I may have Lame Post Thursday.  A little uncertainty adds suspense to my evening.

Waiting for Brownies on Pi Day

OK, a title is all I really have so far.  It is quite true: I am sitting here on my couch just beginning to smell the delicious chocolate aroma.  Mmmmm….. This is why I may never meet my weight loss goals.  But never mind that.  Let me get on with making my Wuss-out Wednesday post.

When did 3/14 become Pi Day?  Math geeks will tell me that 3.14 has always been pi, and I seem to remember that from junior high. But when did it become something we celebrate?  Mind you, I’m not complaining.  I like math and I like pie.  I can’t always do the math, and I do not know how to make a pie, but that is not uncommon.  I wanted to buy a pie today but couldn’t find one (I didn’t look very hard, thinking about those weight-loss goals I mentioned earlier).  I impulse purchased a brownie mix, thinking to keep in reserve in case of emergency.

Turns out we don’t need an emergency to make brownies in this house.  Ooh, the timer just beeped, and Steven went into the kitchen to get the brownies out of the oven.  I think we must let them cool somewhat, which will give me time to finish my blog post.  I really thought I was going to get back into making good posts, you know, about Mohawk Valley adventures and stuff.  I may begin to do that tomorrow.

Or tomorrow I may write a post about how it is the Ides of March.  As classical scholars know, Julius Caesar had a problem on that day.  I may mark the day, but I can pretty much guarantee I will not be eating a Caesar Salad.

More Movies on Wuss-out Wednesday

Yeah, it’s a bad blogging week.  I offer no excuses, but there it is.  At least I am making Wednesday’s post on Wednesday.  I thought I would look for pictures of the movies we are watching today.  I like movies.

Don’t they look fun?

When I got up from a nap (headache, what a surprise), Steven was watching A Mighty Wind, because of the good music.  I would really like to get the soundtrack of that sometime.

OK, I can’t find a picture of The Big Chill and I’m tired of looking.  That is the second movie we watched, because it also has a good soundtrack.  Then I could not think of a worthy direction to go, so I just kept suggesting movies I felt like watching till Steven agreed to Lake Placid.  I wonder if I can find a picture for that.

Now here’s a movie with some teeth.

Ah, I had some success with finding photos.  That is good, since I am having a problem coming up with more interesting words.

At least nobody is throwing a head at her in this shot.

One of my favorite aspects of the movie is the unlikely friendship that develops between Oliver Platt and the big-bellied sheriff.

Lake Placid is a surprisingly humorous monster movie, with likable characters and a few surprises in the plot.  I believe I have written about it at least once (what a surprise, I am too lazy to find the post and make a link).

I’ll call this a Wuss-out Wednesday post and take comfort from the fact that at least I didn’t wait and make it on Thursday. Happy mid-week, everyone.

Apparently I Can Still Write a Little

You know how I say writing begets writing?  That the more you write, the more you will write.  Well, that is true, I suppose, but, you know what, after you write and you write and you write, sometimes you get tired.  That is where I am at.

Oh, I wrote today.  First I started a letter to my friend, Marsha, whose birthday is coming up. I intended to go to Huckleberry Letterpress in Little Falls to get her a card, which I still have reasonable hopes of sending out in time to arrive not too awfully late.  I also wrote a bit on my novel.  That makes 19 days in a row of working at least a little bit every day on it.

After work, I drove straight to Little Falls and had a lovely visit at Huckleberry Letterpress.  The couple that own it are so nice!  I got a nice card for Marsha and enough material to write my (late) article for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  After leaving Huckleberry, I walked up Main Street and found The Sandwich Chef.  I thought a cup of tea would taste awfully good, and I was write.

While I sipped my tea, I worked a little more on my letter to Marsha, telling her a little about Huckleberry and the Sandwich Chef.  I took a few notes about the Chef as well.  I told the lady I would probably write a blog post about it (um, hopefully a better post than this one).

I got home, grabbed my laptop and went to work.  I wrote an article about Huckleberry Letterpress.  I wrote a shorter one about The Sandwich Chef.  Steven read both and said they sounded OK.  I emailed them out.  Phew!

Then I thought, “I can’t write any more!  I can’t do a blog post!  IT!  WON’T! WORK!”

But I see now that it did.  Happy Wednesday, everybody.

We’ll Call This Wuss-out Wednesday

“Oh shame! Oh degradation!”

I open with this picture from Dirty Work at the Crossroads, the melodrama that my husband ,Steven, directed at Ilion Little Theatre some years ago, because I am, as I was on stage, hanging my head in shame.  In the play, it was because the villainess in yellow was about to expose my deep, dark secret.  Right now it is because I am making yet another foolish blog post.

In my defense, it is too cold for any Mohawk Valley adventures!  Actually, that is not strictly true today.  It was supposed to get up to 21 degrees.  That is practically a heat wave.  I could have gone for a nice walk or even a run, if only I had had enough oomph.  And here we come to the ugly truth about me.

Too cold for adventures, I tell you!

I had meant to write something while at work today.  I thought I might wax eloquent about things I MIGHT do.  Kind of a Preview of Coming Attractions.  Instead I worked on a letter to a friend, wrote a few more notes on my new novel, and worked on cryptogram and crossword puzzles.  Um, I did all this while on breaks, so any co-workers reading this don’t need to go squealing on me to the bosses.

Do you suppose that I am getting old?  SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!!  Of course I am older than I was yesterday; everybody is, that’s how it works.  The fact is, although I spent most of today feeling less tired than I felt yesterday, I am once again VERY TIRED NOW.  Dammit.

This is what I feel like doing.

It is early January.  I declare it not too late for New Year’s Resolutions (oh don’t go snootily telling me you don’t DO New Year’s Resolutions; I am not up for an argument).  I shall make one now.  Better blog posts!

Incidentally, the above photo is our dearly departed doggy, Spunky.  I included it because he looks so relaxed and happy to be resting.  It makes me think of another change I’d like to make in 2018.  I want to find another doggy friend.  Now that would be something to blog about!

More an Apology than a Post

Well, I did it again.  I went a day without making a post and now I’m sitting here with my first cup of coffee trying to take up the slack.  It is really very foolish of me.  I did not want to write a dumb post about how I did not feel up to writing a real post last night.  So what am I writing this morning?  A dumb post about how I am not up to writing a real post this morning.  I guess my options are to (1) wait till I can come up with a real post, (2) grit my teeth and attempt a real post now, and (3) just go ahead and write the foolish post I should have written last night and have done with.  Oh, and (4) not make a post, give up this pretense of being a real blogger, and stop spewing this foolishness out into the blogosphere. Oh, like THAT’S ever going to happen!

Steven and I did some minor running around yesterday, including going to Ed and Bud’s in Little Falls for a Tom and Jerry, something I have been wanting to do since the Reindeer Run 5K earlier in December.  Oh, don’t go blaming my not posting on the booze; I’ve sipped and typed before.  Yes, I did continue to enjoy a few more cocktails as the evening progressed.  I’m on vacation!  Sheesh!

So here is my Wuss-out Wednesday post.  Just over 200 words typed in Thursday morning saying I am sorry I did not post anything yesterday.  Sometimes it is kind of fun not being a real blogger.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Running But Not Writing

We are just a few days away from the Reindeer Run 5K in Little Falls, NY!  I ran yesterday, did not run today, will run tomorrow, and either take a long walk or a short run on Friday.  Today I went to the Christmas in Little Falls website and made a note of when and where the race begins.  Yes, I was not clear on these things when I signed up.  I suppose I must have noticed it when I filled out the form, but I neglected to make a note of it (what a surprise, me not organized! Say it ain’t so!).

A lot more stuff is going on in Little Falls on Saturday besides the run.  I have not decided yet what, if any, other events I will attend.  Right now I am more concerned with making sure I have some good sports bras clean.  And deciding whether I should wear reindeer antlers or a Santa hat when I run.  Either one might fly off when I sprint it out at the end.   I guess my sprint is not all that fast compared to other runners, but I do pick up the pace a little.

So my tiredness from Tired Tuesday continues.  Likewise my extreme reluctance to write.  I don’t know what it is, but I can’t seem to make myself put pen to paper and move it.  Now that I have written that, I think I would like to put that to the test.  It is all very well to keep typing in a blog post, but I do not feel that I am writing.  For one reason, this is kind of a lousy blog post.  Well, I’ll just call it Wuss-out Wednesday and drive on.  I’ll let you know on Thursday if I have any luck with the pen.
