Not Too Hot to Blog, Apparently

Regular readers know I am not a fan of hot, humid weather.  In fact, I can be quite the big fat baby brat about it.  I had a pretty bratty day today.  I pause in wiping away the sweat to attempt to make some semblance of a blog post.

“But it’s a dry heat!”

This is not me, or even close to me.  For one reason, I have not been on the South Beach Diet long enough.  More importantly, the Mohawk Valley does not enjoy dry heat.  I cannot say I enjoyed dry heat even when I experienced it, but I know some folks swear by it. To each his own, as the old lady said when she kissed the cow.

Well, maybe it isn’t this hot out. But I am looking forward to Halloween.

I am in a bit of a quandary right now.  I did not go running this morning (judge me if you want to be that way) so thought to walk to the post office this afternoon, to mail a few post cards.  Additionally, I want to purchase some stamps since I hear the price is going up again soon.  Then I thought I would walk to the Herkimer Elks Lodge, where they have Comfort Food dinners on the first Monday of the month.  Tonight it is a grilled burger.  I thought I would get it to go, bring it home, then go to the Herkimer Town Board meeting, which I have to cover for Sentinel Media.  A nice little amount of walking, so I thought.

First, however, I had to put out my trash and recyclables.  No problem, that.  I put away the green waste containers that were emptied this morning (perhaps you read my blog post about filling them), then brought out the other totes and filled them accordingly.  That’s two trips up and down my not very long driveway and two trips back into and out of the house.  This is not strenuous activity, even for a woman of my age and weight.

Explain to me, then, why the sweat was pouring off my body by the time I finished!  What the hell, me?  What the hell, Mother Nature?

I know, you are sitting there hoping that I will quit my bitching soon.  I did mention being a big fat baby brat, did I not?  No matter.  I see I am approaching 400 words.  I find that fine for a Monday, and I can only hope that some readers found me entertaining.

Dinner Today, Donate on Saturday

I got a chance for a good meal I don’t always get a chance for so thought I would make a blog post about it.  Herkimer Elks Lodge offers Comfort Food dinner on the first Monday of the month.  For once I did not have a meeting to cover so thought I would stop on over.

Fun artwork!

The same fellow who  did the artwork for  our murder mystery (which I shared in yesterday’s post) also did a board for Cinco de Mayo.  The main dish tonight was enchilada.  It was delicious!

Other Mondays have featured other dinners.  On another Monday I unexpectedly found myself at the Elks Lodge I got a Chicken Parmesan Dinner to go. YUM!

Alas that I do not have any future menus to share, but I feel sure they will all be delicious.  You can follow Herkimer Elks Lodge on Facebook to see what future Monday menus will be.

You can see other upcoming Elks Lodge events as well.  For example, this Saturday, May 10 they are hosting a box truck to gather donations for Veterans. Have any clothes, bedding, appliances or furniture you are not using?  Come to Herkimer Elks from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. to donate them!

Herkimer Elks Lodge is located at 124 Mary St., Herkimer NY, phone number 315-866-1439.  And as I said, you can follow them on Facebook.

Sometimes I Just Want Monsters

It was love at first sight.

I am watching The Bride of Frankenstein, looking for a little cinematic comfort food.  Regular readers know how I love old time movie monsters.  When I went to New Hartford (NY) this afternoon, I rather thought I would make a couple of interesting stops and mention them in a blog post.  Instead I got back-ended and drove straight home.  I wasn’t going to mention that, but I thought it would be unbearably coy of me to say I was shaken and feeling fragile without explaining why.

I’m quite all right, of course.  It’s just that I’m such a big fat baby about such things.  The point is, I came home and after a couple of long phone calls with insurance companies, I read an Agatha Christie book (also comforting) and looked for one of my favorite movies to try to even myself out.  Which does not make for the most scintillating of blog posts, but you’ll have that, especially with me.  Eventually I got so cold, I made myself some soup, which I ate with a Heidelberg roll left over from Christmas dinner.  Yum.

Doesn’t she look classy? I really must take up embroidery again.

I had it in mind to watch Bride of Frankenstein a few days ago, because it was Elsa Lanchester’s birthday.  I adore Elsa Lanchester.  I think she has a better part in Witness for the Prosecution, but we saw that more recently, and anyways, there are no monsters in it.  I really felt I must have monsters.

I may not be this good-looking, but the description is dead on.

I close with a picture I quite identify with. “I myself am entirely made of flaws stitched together with good intentions.”  I am going to declare this a Non-Sequitur Thursday and drive on.
