Oh No! Not a Blogger’s Sick Day!

So I missed blogging and running Sunday and Monday then took a three mile run this morning.  I was set to do a Running Commentary Post!  I even purposefully ran by a few places I know I have pictures of in my Media Library so I could illustrate.  I felt rather awful after the run, wondered if I should have kept it to two miles, trudged my cool-down walk, and just managed to stretch before getting in the shower.  Still, this was going to be find.

After a shower and finding an outfit to put on, I fixed myself a nice egg sammich for breakfast, using Heidelberg French Peasant Bread (just to add a little local flavor to the post).  I had big plans in my head to go shopping and get stuff done after writing my blog post and  before covering the Frankfort Town Board meeting tonight.

Then after breakfast, it hit me.  For some days I have been dealing with some sore throat/coughing, which I thought was post nasal drip due to my ever present allergies.  This morning, it was suddenly much worse, with a banging, sick headache.

Only I feel like the real thing.

It’s no fair!  This is Thanksgiving week!  I am supposed to get together with my family and have fun!  Oh well, these things happen and we must make the best of them.  Perhaps it is a 24-hour Bugaboo and I will be fine tomorrow.  I am about to try the effects of a hot toddy.

Take your medicine, old lady!

This is actually from The Atomic Brain, a favorite cheesy horror movie.  She is actually drinking a cocktail, and that sour look on her face is natural.  My hot toddy features whiskey from Cooperstown Distillery, just to give another area business a shout-out.

Anyways, I wanted to post something, anything, so here it is.  As always, I thank you for tuning in.

Also Known as a Thelma Todd

There comes a time when I have to say, what the hell, body?  I have a bad blogging and writing week, for various reasons, then when I think I can salvage something on Thursday and Friday, I get completely sick with a terrible head cold.  I am trying to count my blessings — at least I am not nauseous and I did not have to work today — but I feel AWFUL!!!

So I am having a Lame Post Friday after all.  I’m not even going to post any monster movie pictures to liven things up.  Well, maybe one.

Nobody could be un-cheered by Nosferatu.

I spent most of the morning sleeping.  That was sweet.  Some food and a hot shower made me feel a little more human. Then I managed to drive to Utica to get my vehicle.  Oh, never mind why my vehicle was in Utica; it’s a long story and not very interesting.   The drive home was not fun, as the cold symptoms kicked back in, but I made it without being a danger to myself and others.

Back home I had a hot toddy.  I make them the way a doctor told me to many years ago:  hot tea with lemon and honey and a shot.  He recommended brandy or whisky, but I have Mohawk Valley Fire Moonshine from DikinDurt Distillery of Herkimer.  It is fine, yes.  Very cinnamony.  For honey I used some ginger creamed stuff I got at one of the Little Falls festivals,  Cheese Fest or Canal Fest, I think, who can remember these things with a bad cold?  While I sipped, I looked at a Snapped On Demand.  I love Snapped.

I might as well throw in another graphic for good measure.

So everyone has a breaking point, according to the above picture.  Maybe I’ll have another hot toddy to make sure I don’t reach mine.  Happy Friday, everybody.

Thelma Todd Tuesday

No, I am not watching a movie featuring Thelma Todd.  I am drinking a Hot Toddy.  Thelma Todd’s nickname was Hot Toddy, so sometimes I refer to my Hot Toddies as Thelma Todds.  It works for me.

So instead of having a Tired Tuesday or taking a Blogger’s Sick Day (and I almost literally took one, publishing nothing today and hoping to do two tomorrow), I decided to give a shout out to DikinDurt Distillery of Herkimer.  I decided that after making myself the aforementioned hot drink and coming up with my headline.

I made the toddy the way a doctor once told me, when I had a dreadful case of bronchitis.  He said it was merely hot tea, lemon, honey, and a shot.  He recommended whiskey or brandy.  I’ve used both and enjoyed them very much.  Today, however, I have on hand a bottle of Mohawk Valley Fire by DikinDurt Distillery, a local business I have mentioned here before as well as written about for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.   The flavored moonshine adds a nice cinnamony taste to my drink (and I do not care if “cinnamony” is not a word; it is what I mean).

The distillery is located at 115 Smith Rd., Herkimer, NY, phone number 315-868-1536.  The tasting room is open Thursday and Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m., Monday through Wednesday by appointment, closed Sunday.  Their fine products are available at many area liquor stores, a list of which is available on their website, https://www.dikindurt.com/.
