It’s a Waste Not to Go to the Library

I thought I would do a Waste Not Want Not Wednesday post.  For one reason I have two pretty good pictures I haven’t used.  For another reason, it’s still Wednesday.

Quite an interesting looking building.

Last Friday I went to a book sale at Ilion Free Public Library.  It was bag day, where you could fill a bag for $5.  Like many book lovers, I have too many books in my house.  And yet, I found more I would really like to read.  In fact, I have already read one of them.  I felt a little bad as I left the library and took this picture.  I thought, I am going to write about the book sale, and local readers are going to be sorry they missed it.

However, Ilion Free Public Library does a lot of fun things:  Mahjong, writers group, line dancing, and more.  If you go to their Facebook page, you can see the calendar for the month.  I may have to start doing more library things.

Feed the monster! Return your books!

Here’s another example of how fun this library is:  here is the book return.  Naturally I had to take a picture.

I love all the libraries in this area.  In fact, I never met a library I didn’t like!  I keep thinking I am going to start going to libraries more often, to look for books or to just sit and write.  For one reason, I can make more blog posts about libraries.

Tired Post, Late Shout-out

Why am I always too tired to do my Tired Tuesday post on Tuesday?  Am I getting old or am I just unhealthy?  I know it is not that I am working too hard, alas.  But enough about me, how about a blog post?

Last week I finally drove to Dyn’s Cider Mill in Richfield Springs.  I was in search of popcorn.  They have the best popcorn!  Popcorn is an excellent source of fiber, I have read.  Of course, with the amount of butter and salt I put on it, I cannot consider it a health food.  Still, it goes great with the movies I like to watch.

I love this place!

It was a bright, sunny day, which can be a little difficult to drive in.  Luckily I have polarized prescription sunglasses, a relic of when I used to work in the eye care industry.  It would have been a prettier drive had I gone earlier in the fall, but I can’t do everything (or even many things) in a timely fashion.  I still enjoyed the scenery and kept an eye out for any remaining bits of color (while still paying attention to traffic and bends in the road, I promise!)

I purchased two bags of popcorn and a half dozen donuts.  I know, donuts are far from a health food.  But they were freshly made and yummy!  Now that I have eaten them and they are gone, perhaps I can refrain from buying more and can begin a more healthy eating style.  No promises.

Dyn’s Cider Mill is located at 7915 NY-28, Richfield Springs, NY, phone number 315-858-2078.  You can find out more on their Facebook page.

Trying to Cope with First World Problems

Here I am, still on my Tablet, and YES I an grateful to at least have that.  It is under the heading First World Problems.  I will just go ahead and admit I am in a bad headspace right now.  After some more coffee and making some semblance of a blog post, I will try to do something about it.

Random picture to denote passage of time while I get more coffee.

Another problem with the Tablet (YES, a First World Problem! Sheesh!) is it likes to jump around, making it very difficult to add categories and tags.  Yesterday I gave up on them, but that was just a placeholder post anyways.  Today I am going for a combination Mid-Week Monsters and Tired Tuesday Post, made on Wednesday morning, and not so early either.  I was up late last night.

I may be as toothless one day.

Since I started out with non-movie monster’s, I continue with some scary neighborhood pumpkins which I have shared before.  I have not gotten a pumpkin yet this year.  Will I make the drive to Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit today, Halloween Eve?  Maybe, but I have much to get done today.  Will I do it all? Unlikely.   Will I do any of it?  One can hope.

In any case, I am over 200 words.  I will see if I can use my phone to add title, categories,  and tags. You see, I don’t just whine about my problems.  Sometimes I try to do something about them.

Not Too Lazy to Look for Monsters

Did I jinx myself by Monday’s headline?  Or was it my innate laziness that caused me to miss posting on Tuesday?  I called myself lazy at work, and a co-worker nicely said I was not.  I replied, “There are worse things to be than lazy.  I’m a few of those, too.”  I did not specify.  Be that as it may, I am lounged on my couch, ten finger typing on my Chromebook, a little later that my usual morning posting time, because I took today off.  I have an appointment in the morning and fun plans for the afternoon.  A Mohawk Valley Adventure or two?  I hope so!

In the meantime, I would like to make a blog post now.  A late Tired Tuesday Post or an on time Mid-Week Monsters Post?  One could argue that Tuesday is mid-week, but I am no hand at argument.

Me fighting my own laziness.

I have not idea who those two monsters are, but I downloaded them to the blog in February 2023, which was a monstrous month, to be sure.

That’s my problem! No coffee!

I am, in fact, on my second cup of tea, so I am somewhat caffeinated.  I gave up coffee for Lent, which I realized yesterday is in fact longer than 40 days.  I am not exactly a practicing Catholic or even an Episcopalian (which is one of my all-time favorite words), but when Lent rolls around, I feel I should mark it some way.  This is the most drastic sacrifice I have made in years; usually I just do something extra, like read  x chapters of the Bible every day, or pray a Rosary. However, I do not mean to get into religious discussions. I just see a bunch of pictures and memes in my Media Library pertaining to coffee, which is on my mind to a greater extent than I had anticipated.

I might scream, only my throat is a little sore.

Here is a picture from one of my favorite cheesy horror movies, The Screaming Skull.  I have written about it in this space.  I wonder if I can find it and link back to the post.  Am I un-lazy enough for that?

Random picture to mark the passage of time.

As it turns out, not too lazy.  I think it was a pretty fun post, but perhaps I flatter myself.

And this post is over 400 words. Woohoo!  Were they good words?  Where they un-boring words?  Let us not ask for miracles.

Monsters, Mugs and Murder at Mid-Week

I guess it is a week of late blog posts, but you’ll have that, especially with this blog.  I think I will have the Mid-Week Monster post I mentioned on an earlier post this week.  For one reason, I like monsters.

Well, this is frustrating.  I found a picture I wanted to share on Facebook but cannot figure out how to do it on the Chromebook.  It is probably Operator Error as usual.  My entire life is plagued by Operator Error!  But we weren’t talking about me for once.  I shall resort to my Media Library, also as usual.

Must have my coffee.

This is not a self-portrait.  Yes, I drink coffee, but I will probably never be that skinny.  Still, one can dream.

In fact I am a kind of a witch, spelled with a b, of course.

A coffee-themed monster post?  I used my flaming pumpkin mug yesterday.  I am not sure if I can find another appropriate illustration.

Why do I not have these in my collection?

The things you find when you are scrolling down!  I had forgotten all about these gems.  Is it too early to start planning this year’s Halloween festivities?  I think not.

One of my favorite shows.

How about some murder mugs to go with the monsters?  Murder is a monstrous crime, although I like to make light of it in my murder mysteries.  I used to have one more.  I wonder if I can find it…

I like to think I am one of these, or do I flatter myself?

Found it!  Another show I miss since I gave up cable.  I think they stopped making new episodes, though, so I had to get lucky and catch it on re-runs or On Demand.  Still, there is no point in repining.  One can find other sources of entertainment, after all.

Speaking of entertainment, I hope this blog has managed to be that.  I will try for some Mohawk Valley Adventures in the near future.  In the meantime, thank you for tuning in.

Monsters from my Media Library

How about a Mid-Week Monsters post?  For one reason, I can get a little more practice in navigating my Media Library on this new computer.  For another reason, well, I like monsters.

“You want to do WHAT?”

This was the first monster I came to, a nice wolfman (I don’t know why my computer is underlining it; isn’t that how you spell “wolfman”?).  He looks a little surprised.  I’m a little surprised myself, posting three days in a row not early in the morning. Has it been three days?  Of course I am too lazy to go back and check.

Accused by his wife of being “the only ghoul here.”

Here is my guy Vincent Price in House on Haunted Hill.  I just watched that again the other night.  Sweet!  I loves me some William Castle.

“A little more claw here!”

And here is the great Castle himself, directing one of his cast.  Actually I am not sure if this is actually a picture of him directing or a publicity shot, but I like it.

I think he is nice!

And here is a little cuteness to round out the post.  The awesome pot was sent to me by my good friend Marsha.  The vampire was given to me by my late, dearly missed husband, Steve.  The orange is a t-shirt I didn’t really like anyways (it was advertising for a place I used to work; I folded it so no logo showed).

Some of my Facebook groups are already counting down the days to Halloween.  I have other deadlines to worry about.  In the meantime, I see I am over 250 words. Score!  I must try for some more Mohawk Valley Adventures to blog about, if only the weather will cooperate.  As always, thank you for tuning in.

OK, So It’s Not Really Thursday

Was I too tired or too lazy to make my Thursday blog post on Thursday?  It does not matter, but here I am early but not early enough Friday morning, typing frantically, trying to make some semblance of a post while I can.  Full disclosure:  I would have plenty of time if I did not just have to arrive at work early enough to work on an anacrostic puzzle.  Never mind that, let us try for a Throwback Thursday post.

Santa is a voyeur!

I may watch King Kong right along here, only without the Santa hat.  I have always considered it a New Year’s Eve movie, just because we happened to watch it one year on New Year’s Eve.

I don’t suppose that is sheet music to a Christmas carol.

Actually, Nosferatu looks a little like Ebenezer Scrooge, although that is not the Christmas Carol I was referencing in the caption.  I guess I have veered into Midweek Monsters, making this a kind of a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.  You see how flexible I am.

The ONLY Grinch for me! I will die on this hill.

I did not watch any Christmas movies or specials this year, and the only one I missed was Boris Karloff as the Grinch.

Ooh, this brings me to over 200 words, and I still have enough time to fill in a couple of clues on that puzzle.  I hope to see you later when I make my Lame Post Friday post.  How much later is an amount to be determined.

Monsters (and Bloggers) Need Love

One might just as well admit that it is easier not to make a blog post than to make one (one being me).  I could go on at length about how my depression makes it difficult to do
ANYTHING, beginning with getting out of bed in the morning, and how blogging is a form of communicating and I am in a decidedly non-communicative state, but these are half-baked philosophies (I deal in no other kind) better suited for Lame Post Friday.  How about some Mid-Week Monsters instead, and apologies for not posting on Tired Tuesday (I was in fact very tired, but explanations are even more tiresome; let us get on with the blog).

I surely would have used this had I posted yesterday, and I might call you Shirley.

I had the delightful experience this morning of thinking it was Tuesday but realizing it was Wednesday, so I feel free to use this picture.  I could feel a little sad it is not Friday, but what is wrong with Wednesday? All days need a little love.

“You need room-darkening shades, by the way.”

Monsters need a little love, too.  That is all Nosferatu is looking for here.  Love, and a little nutrition.  Even vampires need to eat!

Only my hairdo is not as good.

This is my current profile picture on Facebook.  It is a pretty good description of me, by the way.

I’m sure he meant it as a compliment.

Speaking of looking for love in all the wrong places…  I’m sure Drs. Frankenstein and Praetorious (don’t know if that’s spelled right; too lazy to look it up) thought these two were ideally suited.  That is what makes me suspicious of dating services.  How do they know who is and is not compatible?

I see I am approaching 300 words.  I call that respectable, as regular readers (if I still have any) know.  Yes, my little blog is looking for love, just like these monsters.  They say you have to give it to get it, and I do love my readers.  Happy Wednesday, everybody.

Monsters Help Me Over The Hump

Since it is Wednesday, how about a Mid-Week Monsters Post?  For one reason, it is still Wednesday.  Perhaps I can make at least one post this week on time.

Sometimes I just want to scream!

This is a shot from The Screaming Skull,  one of my favorite cheesy horror movies. I think I have written about it in this space but, alas, am too tired to seek out the post and link back to it.  Perhaps a little Wuss-out Wednesday is sneaking into the post as well as my day.

I’d be scared too!

After scrolling through my Media Library for a bit, I came across this shot from Nosferatu which I have  shared before.  He is scary, yes.

I was wondering that myself.

Here is an appropriate shot and caption from Young Frankenstein, a thoroughly enjoyable movie.  If you have not seen it, I highly recommend it.

I toast my monsters.

I add this lovely wine glass, which I sadly knocked down and broke to last Halloween.  I  must return to Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit to purchase another.

The master.

Looking for one more monster to round out the post, I thought I could not do better than Bela Lugosi as Dracula.  Many consider him the quintessential vampire.  I think he is wonderful.

This brings me over 200 words, yes!  Happy Wednesday,  everyone!

Did Anybody Miss Me? Or My Monsters?

Well, this is dreadful.  I have not posted in four days.  I haven’t missed this many days in a row since I had COVID.  I was (and I guess am) sick again, but I do not know what it is.  The main symptom seems to be complete exhaustion.  I guess not literally complete, because I did go to work yesterday and made it through the whole day.  I even did some work.

Never mind my stupid physical problems (and we won’t even go NEAR the mental ones).  Let me try instead for a blog post.

“Puttin onna RIIIIIIIITZ!”

When in doubt, throw in a monster, that’s my motto.  Here is the Monster and his creator from Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, one of my all-time favorite movies.

Me too.

And here is the Bride, with a rather profound saying.  Have I had enough coffee for profundity?  Better have a little more.

Can you dig it?

Torn between two pictures, I went instead for a third one, because I have not used it in recent memory.  Back in the ’70’s, when I was in my early teens, my favorite saying was “Dig it!”  I became rather tiresome with it, as junior high school students are apt to do.  Am I becoming tiresome with my monsters?  I’m afraid that is what old lady bloggers are apt to do.

In any case, I am over 200 words.  I’m a blogger again!  Or do I flatter myself?
