More Pics from the Sunday Stroll

This is part two of my Sunday Stroll, to use the pictures I took with my Tablet, because waste not, want not. After mailing the card to my friend (the reason for the walk, for those of you just tuning in), I continued up Prospect Sreet, where I saw some lovely dark clouds.

I also tried to get the trees.
I like this one even better,

The sun was shining in the sky behind me, as you can tell by the brightness.

A better sky shot.
A good tree and sky shot.

I shared two of these pictures on the WKTV Facebook page. Jill Reale shared one on the morning news cast. That is always fun for me. Bill Kardas shared one on Facebook, saying the clouds were asperatus clouds, which look threatening but only bring scattered showers. So I feel recognized by the WKTV weather crew.

Reaching German Street, I walked past my street to Trinity Lutheran Church, so I could get a shot of their flowers, which I had noticed on my morning run.

Now those are some daffodils!
I wish I had zoomed in more.

I enjoyed my little walk, and I love seeing signs of spring!

A Toast to Siblings

Did you know it was National Siblings Day today? I did not, till I saw it on Facebook. What a source of information and entertainment. My sister Vicki shared a lovely picture of the five of us.

Since I wanted to participate too, I searched my Tablet for a shot. I did not have one. Instead, I shared a picture of a flight of draft beers from Heelpath Brewing in Frankfort, NY. I figured, I have four siblings, I would drink a beer to each of them.

Later that day, I got together with my friend Kim, and she suggested we go to Heelpath and perhaps sit outside. It was a drop dead gorgeous day, and we do like Heelpath. I decided to drink a flight for my siblings.

Yum, yum!

I took tasting notes but do not have them handy and am too lazy to look for them. Anyways, since they represent my siblings, it would be wrong to pick a favorite.

Heelpath Brewing Co. is located at 122 Marina Park Dr., Frankfort, NY, phone number 315-444-9005. They are open 2 to p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 2 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Late Post, Good Dinner

I had a different title in min but decided the above would emphasize the yummy meal we had last night while still acknowledging I am making my Friday blog post Saturday morning.

Yesterday I went straight from work to Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer, NY. My current place of employment is such handy walking distance from the place, I have been wanting to do that on a Friday since day one. Since I put in my two-week notice (long story, not very interesting), I thought we had better do it.

I spent the last half hour at work singing a song I made up as I went along. It was kind of a croony tune and prominently featured the word “Chardonnay.” I left work a few minutes late so called Steven on his cell so he could have the Chardonnay waiting for me.

Steven enjoyed a little Chardonnay himself.

All day I had been thinking about the broiled haddock served in a white wine lemon butter glaze with a side of pasta.

“Only I don’t want tomato sauce on the pasta. I want the sauce they put on the fish,” I said.

“I’ll let you order first and say I’ll have the same,” Steve said. We followed that plan and enjoyed a delicious meal.

I’m getting hungry again!

Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant is located at 650 1/2 German St., Herkimer, NY, phone number 315-866-2600. They are open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to p.m. Friday, closed Sunday. They also deliver!

Judge Me If You Are So Inclined

Let us be perfectly honest about the fact that I am doing my post despite the fact that my computer flatly refuses to put the obvious anticipatory words on my predictive text.

This was the paragraph I typed last night (as Truman Capote famously said, that’s not writing). Then I gave it up as a bad job. Steven and I had been to the 5th anniversary celebration of the End Zone Pub and Grub in Herkimer. Too much to drink? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

Actually, it was not so. For one reason, we drove to the pub so kept it under control. However, when we got home, we were so into watching movies and hanging out, my blog post just went by the wayside.

It is going by the wayside again this morning, because I want to go running. Will I make a better blog post later? I can only hope.

Apropos Snow on Tired Tuesday

I’m afraid all I can manage today is a Tired Tuesday Post. I had a rather heinous day at work, but this is not a work blog, so I will not go on about that. In fact, already I’ve said too much.

A little snow to cool us off.

I throw in a picture to pep things up. This was taken a while ago, but today was a snowy day, so I feel it is apropos.

Isn’t he cute?

I snapped the snowman in a neighborhood yard back in November. It feels like years ago. I would like to build a snowman. Perhaps if it is warm enough, but not too warm, this weekend. Then again, I won’t mind if it is too warm, because I am quite looking forward to spring.

Here’s a cheery trio!

Here is a picture taken in December that cheers me up. It is good to be cheered up on a Tuesday.

I think it is even bigger now.

And here is a shot of Frankentree from December 2019. We have roughly the same amount of snow currently. This is getting to be a meandering kind of post. If Tuesday counts as mid-week, I could call this Mid-week Mental Meanderings. I have not used that category in a while.

But is Tuesday really mid-week? That question might keep me up tonight. What a terrible situation on Tired Tuesday.

And I Am Too Sick to Think of a Title

Today is a Blogger’s Sick Day. Of all the rotten timing for ill health! How many weeks have I been furloughed and laid off, two weeks into a new job, and they send me home. Two days before Christmas!

It is, as usual, my own fault (I believe I have mentioned that most of my life can be summed up with the words “Operator Error”). I mentioned my symptoms. I work amongst nurses, in a setting where they must be very careful of infection. I protested, but they made me go home.

I suppose they were right, because I started to feel a little worse as I drove home. I took a nap. I ate some chicken soup. I will probably go to bed early. I am sure I will feel better. Without going into disgusting details, my symptoms are more indicative of gastroenteritis than COVID. Quite frankly, anything that is not gone tomorrow will suck.

One reason I feel so annoyed is that I had plans. I was going shopping and to the bank after work. I don’t want to deal with that shit on Christmas Eve! I had a vague thought of trying to use the order online, pick up curbside option, but I do not feel up to navigating the internet tonight.

I did not up to making a blog post, either, but here I am, over 200 words. Perhaps they are whiny words. These things happen. Let us all hope for better things tomorrow.

Slippers, Svengoolie and Steve on Sunday

I thought of that title before I had much idea of what to say. Full disclosure: I still don’t have much idea of what to say. However, I have two pictures in mind, so I do not despair of coming up with some semblance of a blog post. In my favor, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday, one of my largely off the hook days.

Relaxing my tootsies.

Steven surprised me with these slippers last December. I was delighted with them and determined to only wear them for the Christmas season. For us, this often starts the day after Halloween. This benighted year, however, it had to wait till Steven came home (did I write a post about him being away? If so, I ought to have written another about his homecoming. Oh dear).

Be all that as it may, I put on my jingly footwear last night and posted a very popular picture of them on Facebook. I am wearing them again today. It is a pleasure to walk around the house.

One of my new favorite guys.

We watched a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie. I only recently discovered Svengoolie. Oh what I have been missing!

Speaking of missing things, I just checked and found that I did make a blog post about Steven being from home.  Well, he returned home Friday.  That is not so long ago that I have been horribly remiss in not mentioning it.  Full disclosure: the original title of this post was “Slippers and Svengoolie Sunday.”  I added Steven later.  I might worry that he would be miffed by such a thing, but I don’t think he reads my blog any more.

In the meantime,  I am approaching 300 words.  Not bad for Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Yay, Rock City Runners!

So I did one thing today. I volunteered for the Turkey Trot 5K sponsored by Rock City Runners of Little Falls, NY. My job was to (wo)man an intersection, keeping traffic at bay and runners on track. I was assigned an intersection above the hospital. It was a quiet zone.

I figured me cheering on runners was quiet enough.

I got there early and paced around waiting for the runners. They were to pass below me on Burwell, run by the ballfield, then by me and on. This will make sense to those familiar with Little Falls, but I imagine other readers will catch up. So to speak.

See the haze in the background?

This is looking down from where I stood. I could see the runners but distrusted my ability to photograph them.

I watched for runners from this direction.

When the runners went by me, I cheered them all on. I wished I was one of them but know that volunteers are important too.

My view most of the time.

It started to rain and pretty much did not stop, so I took a shot that showed my umbrella, for which I was grateful.

I must say it is more fun to run than volunteer, but I do not rule out doing it again. For one reason, I know I am contributing to a community event. This one raised funds for two local charities. Yay, Rock City Runners!

Picture Shopping

I love shit like this!

How about a Wordless Wednesday Post?  Of course, I am never entirely wordless.  However, earlier this afternoon, I stopped by Mohawk Valley Community Market and took several pictures.  The above was taken just as I walked through the door.

Santa Claus is coming to town!

The sign in the chair said when Santa will visit, but I did not make a note.  No doubt you can find out via their Facebook page.  I am sure social distancing rules will apply.

The handy site map was new since my last visit.

Is that gorgeous or what?

Here’s some beautiful glassware!

Of course I had to check out my friend Gil’s spot, One of a Kind by GS.

Renewed and Rescued, the original inhabitant of the space.

This is where they used to have clothes.

One last incidental table that caught my eye.

I love vendor marts like this, because you always see something different.  I will no doubt be back to Christmas shop.

Mohawk Valley Community Market is located at 140-142 N Main St., Herkimer, NY.  They are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday,  10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Special hours may be in force for this weekend, but they will be open and obviously ideal for Shop Small Saturday.

Thank You, Jamo’s!

Since it is Friday, I thought I would go to Happy Hour and write a blog post about it. This decision was not arrived at without a great deal of dithering. Had I earned such a treat? Was this the smartest move considering I am subsisting on unemployment benefits? What about my weight loss goals?

On the other hand, we need to support our local businesses during these uncertain times. Additionally, I could walk to and from my destination, thus getting much needed exercise. With these arguments floating around in my head, I set out for Jamo’s Restaurant and Bar in Herkimer, NY.

I have not been here in a while.

I arrived shortly before four, to find out they open at four. That suited me, because Happy Hour also started at four, so I sat down on the bench to wait. I took a picture of my view while I waited.

I thought the clouds looked cool.

At four I went in, sat at the bar, ordered a glass of wine, and perused the menu. Stupidly, I set my purse on the bar. I was startled by the crash when it fell over, breaking my wine glass.

I am embarrassed to admit, I burst into tears. I have been very emotional lately. The waitresses could not have been nicer. They got me a fresh place setting and a new glass of wine. What the hell, me? I am usually much better at rolling with the punches. When somebody breaks a wine glass at my house, I say, “Oh, that’s all right.” For some reason it is much worse when I do it.

This glass survived the evening.

I guess that picture turned out a little dark, but it will have to do. I ate some Boneless Wings with Everything Sauce and brought leftovers home. It was a pleasant interlude, and I still have time to watch a monster movie.

Jamo’s Restaurant and Bar is located at 123 Mohawk St., Herkimer, phone number 315-866-1746.
