Apparently My Brain Would Die

Once again we did not watch enough movies for a Sunday Cinema post.  I had high hopes when we enjoyed  The Haunting (1963) fairly early on.

I had to scroll through my Media Library twice to find this.

I figured I might as well share a picture, to pep the post up.  After the movie we put it on Snapped while Steve fixed us some food, and we kind of got stuck on it.  Full disclosure: I’ve also been reading an Agatha Christie book.

A perennial favorite.

In the meantime, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I proudly posted on Facebook this morning my intention to be useless and not worry about it.  I was half right.  I was useless but a little worried about things I have not gotten done.  Perhaps I could still do something before bed.  Then again, I still haven’t finished that book…

Love the side eye.

There are also other movies to be watched. The Brain That Wouldn’t Die (1962) is what caught my eye first just now.

Is it clear by now that I am a little brain dead?  I took a decongestant earlier.  Drugs!  Either they don’t work at all, they work but dope me up, or they don’t work but still dope me up.  In this case, I feel marginally decongested as well as doped up, so I have to call it a win.

I am over 200 words, making my Sunday post on Sunday,  so I’ll call that a win too.  I hope to see you all on Monstrous Monday.

Where’s That Chaise Lounge?

So I guess it’s going to be a regular thing, making Sunday’s post early Monday morning.  I don’t even have a lame excuse.  I was awake,  I was at home.  I just did not want to pick up  the Tablet or go to the computer and type.  I am having all kinds of trouble with all kinds of writing.  I can’t even finish a letter!  I know, poor, poor, pitiful me.  Go ahead and play the miniature violin or otherwise poke fun. I deserve it.

On the other hand, maybe yesterday was a supreme Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  Picture me, if you will, swooned in distress upon a chaise lounge, posed dramatically with the back of one wrist to my forehead.  It was all just too, too much for me.

As a matter of fact, I was on the couch, and full disclosure;  I wasn’t even swooned.  I was watching movies with my husband, and it really would have made a great Sunday Cinema post.  I must ask myself, what’s my problem?

And I have to answer: I do not know, but it seems I do have one.  For example, I could be searching pictures now and making that Sunday Cinema Post. But I’m not.  Perhaps what I need to do is to stop worrying about what my problem is and learn to write despite it.  That’s the plan for today.  We’ll see how well it works out when I make my Monday post later today (I HOPE not tomorrow morning, but no promises).

For a Sunday Post, It Will Have To Do

It is SO Wrist to Forehead Sunday today!  I don’t want to make a post.  I don’t want to do anything!  What a bum!

The only reason I am typing anything at all (as Truman Capote famously said, “That’s not writing, that’s typing”) is that I do not want to be typing at 4 a.m. tomorrow.  I know, I said posting in the morning was going to be a thing, but I don’t want to HAVE to do it. Am I making sense?  Probably not,  but as usual, I ask you to bear with me.

We had a fun time earlier with our friend Kim at the End Zone Pub and Grub.  There is not much else I can say about that, and, alas, I did not take pictures.  Pictures always do pep up a post, don’t they?

Isn’t she pretty?

Just to prove that point, I put in a picture of Kim.  This is at Dikin Durt Distillery in Herkimer, NY.  That lets me include another plug for a local business.  I need to get back to Dikin Durt soon.  I could use another bottle of moonshine for coffee of questionable moral fiber purposes.

So this is my blog post for today.  Two small plugs for local businesses and a little whining about How I Can’t Make a Post.  It will have to do.

Just to also include a picture of the End Zone.

Just Writing Another Late Post

Yes, I did it again.  I failed to make my blog post on the day intended.  That’s two days in a row I did that,  although I suppose regular readers noticed that. I am going through a really rotten writing period (oh how I wished I could think of a word with an “r” sound to be alliterative!).

The answer, of course,  is to Write, Just Write. If I can’t write one thing, I can try something else, as long as I am getting words on paper or screen. So here I am, getting words on screen.  Good words?  Entertaining words?  I don’t ask for miracles.  I just write.

I scrolled through my Media Library twice looking for these pictures

We had a very nice Sunday with deck sitting before it rained followed by a few good movies.  We had a mini Judith Anderson film festival, with And Then There Were None and Laura. Then we continued the murder theme with Columbo.  We only have one season of on DVD.  I would like to have the entire series.

I don’t remember this shot from the movie, but it is a good picture of Anderson.

This one is from Laura..

I always say this is the real love story in the picture, and I don’t think I spoil anything by saying that, in case you never saw the movie. By the way, if you never saw the movie, I highly recommend it.

Sorry, no pictures of Columbo,  although I thought I had one.  Anyways, this will have to do for my Sunday post.  On the brighter side, for me at any rate, this is a three day weekend.  Will I get anything useful done?  Will I have a Mohawk Valley adventure?  Will I make my Monday post on Monday?  For the answers to these and other questions,  stay tuned to Mohawk Valley Girl.

I Drank and Typed

Sunday, Sunday. Nobody will mind if I make a foolish post on Sunday.  For one thing, I can call it Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I am not, in fact, feeling particularly Wrist to Forehead-y at the moment.   I have been relaxing, enjoying a beverage of questionable moral fiber, and I am most inclined to make yet another foolish post.

We are watching Hush, Hush.., Sweet  Charlotte, one of up our favorites of the psycho biddy genre.

Steven is just about ready to fall asleep.  I personally am ready to stretch put and close my eyes.  This hardly matters. The point is to enjoy enough of a movie tonight to be part of a fun evening.

I do enjoy to watch a movie that I have previously been told NOT to watch.  I do not always do it in a case where I have been told NOT to watch. As it happens, right now, I am enjoying some scenes of a movie we were not supposed to watch.

That was as far as I got last night. It all makes sense to me except for the part about being told not to watch a movie.  Who ever told me NOT to watch Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte (I’m not sure where the … goes and I am too lazy to check)?  Bette Davis, Agnes Moorehead, Cecil Kellaway… there could be no possible objection!

I imagine there could be an objection to this blog post, but I offer no excuse.  I must get on with my Monday.

Post Mummers Post

I knew early on today that it was going to be Wrist to Forehead Sunday.   I felt it in my tired body and dull head.  But I had to revive myself somehow, at least temporarily,  because I had one more performance with Mummers Along the Mohawk.

By the way, we were awesome.  I do not feel egotistical saying it, because I speak as part of a group.  Anyways, as I often observe, there are worse things than having an ego the size of Manhattan (not that I have ever actually measured an ego, mine or otherwise).  But I digress. I hope to make a real post about the Great American Irish Festival and about the Mummers, but now is not the time.

Now is the time to make a fast post, so I do not fall further behind; then I can return to the wine drinking, movie watching portion of the evening.

Oh no! It’s Wrist to Forehead Sunday!

The movie we are currently viewing is The Birds, a good Sunday night flick.  Before that we saw Creature from the Haunted Sea, but I do not have any pictures of that in my Media Library and it is not so easy to get pictures when I am on my Tablet.  At least for me.  I suppose others can do it with ease, and there is another reason for me to pose dramatically with the back of one wrist on my forehead.

No, I am not telling you to get out of here! Sheesh!

I wanted to include another picture, so here is one from I Saw What You Did, our selection from two days ago.  I loves me some William Castle!

So I hope this is a sufficient blog post.  My theatrical commitments are done for the time being.  Perhaps I can manage to make some better blog posts.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Slacker Sunday? Or Cinema? Whatever!

Is Slacker Sunday a thing or does this have to be a Sunday Cinema post?   I don’t know why I’m asking.  This is my blog and I make the rules.  Full disclosure: I have had a couple of drinks.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

We began the relaxing portion of our Sunday out on our deck, enjoying a lovely breeze and watching some laundry flap.  How I love my clothesline and am so grateful to my parents for giving it to me.

Eventually we went back into the house and pu in our DVD of Death on the Nile, one of our star-studded Agatha  Christies (ooh, that autocorrect burns my buns!  “What the” instead of “Agatha”?  And “buns”  instead of “burns”?  What the Hell?).

After Death on the Nile, we enjoyed Rope, an Alfred Hitchcock,  but not one of his more prominent films. Now we are watching The Giant Gila Monster, from our collection of 50 Horror Classics. I can’t say I am particularly enamored of the flick, but I’m the one who picked it.

I feel sorry I can’t share pictures of these movies, but it is not so easy on the Tablet as it is on the laptop.   We all know I am not as technologically adept as one could wish.  However, this is Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I swoon on my metaphorical chaise lounge and hope for a better post tomorrow.

Billy Wilder, Can You Help Me Now?

I thought of making another Running Commentary post,  but that was much earlier today, while I was actually running.  Going for a run was about the extent of my usefulness for the day.  Well what do people expect out of me on a Sunday, anyways?  Regular readers know I often spend the day looking for a chaise lounge to swoon upon, dramatically posed with the back of my wrist against my forehead (hence the feature Wrist to Forehead Sunday).

Speaking of dramatic poses…

I shall attempt to peel my wrist off my forehead long enough for a Sunday Cinema post.   Earlier we watched Sunset Boulevard,  with Gloria Swanson and William Holden.  It was directed by Billy Wilder.  I suggested we continue the Billy Wilder theme with Double Indemnity.

They are an unsavory pair in this flick.

There are Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck.  Edward G. Robinson plays a supporting role,  my favorite character in the picture.

Steven wanted to take a break from movie watching, so I have a little time to ponder our next cinematic feature.

Classic.

We could continue the Billy Wilder theme but on a lighter note with Some Like It Hot.

Two of my favorites.

Another Billy Wilder movie we love is Witness For The Prosecution.

I haven’t reached my breaking point yet.

Or we could forget Billy Wilder and movies, and just watch Snapped.

I’m Still Calling it Wrist to Forehead Sunday

Who gets the hiccups peeling carrots?  Not eating them, mind you, PEELING them.  This is another  “What the Hell, me?” moment.

I thought that was a better lead than what played in my head while I was peeling said carrots,  something along the lines of, “It is becoming increasingly clear that I need a new approach.   To blogging, to writing,  to life.”

I’m sitting here making my Sunday post early Monday morning,  on my Tablet,  because, although I greatly prefer typing with all ten fingers, I cannot bear the unreliability of my laptop (good job, predictive text thingy;  it’s fun not to have to type in the whole word sometimes).

Where was I?  Ah yes, a new approach. What could it be?  Sometimes when I want to feel like a whole different person,  I wear lipstick.  That sort of random change can be helpful.  Like any cure (for example working on a hated chore “for just ten minutes” or taking ibuprofen for a headache), it doesn’t always work.

I don’t think I’ll try that one today.  Too obtrusive, especially if I pick bright red,  which is really the best color for the purpose. Somebody at work is likely to say,  “Ooh, you’re wearing lipstick, ”  or, which would be really awkward,  “How come you’re wearing lipstick? ”  My co-workers have come to expect weirdness from me, but there is no point in hitting them over the head with it.

Well, I will have to work this out for myself.  If I get it figured out,  I will no doubt make a blog post about it (once again,  thank you,  predictive text thingy).  By the way,  the hiccups did not last long, and I got the carrots peeled.

At Least I Didn’t Mention My Underwear. Oops.

I thought to myself, “This will be the day I catch up on my blog.”  Regular readers may remember (or not; I do not flatter myself that my little blog holds such an important part in anybody’s consciousness) that I am still one post behind, after missing two days, um, two weeks ago?  More? Less?  I’m too lazy and flustered to go back and check.  The point is, I realized earlier in the week that Sunday would be the perfect day to make two posts and thus be caught up, according to my rules for me.  I have a matinee of Morning’s at Seven at Ilion Little Theatre at two.  I can make a post before and a post afterward.  IT!  COULD!  WORK!  (That is a reference to Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, a movie I highly recommend).

I attempted to implement the plan earlier in the day, but I sat here on WordPress and just kind of made b-b-b-b noises.  Later, having exerted myself in other directions (nothing big: made a salad for my week’s lunches, made some cream-cheese-stuffed celery sticks for same, got the laundry out of the drier, did  a couple other minor chores), I thought to try again.  So here I am.  Let the b-b-b-b noises begin!

The fact is, I am as usual these days, feeling quite flustered.  Will I remember my lines? Will I remember all the other stuff: contact lenses, pantyhose, to breathe?  I already forgot one thing:  when I was at the grocery store earlier I meant to get grapes and pretzels for backstage snacks.  They are my favorite backstage snacks:  the grapes help you hydrate and the salt in the pretzels helps absorb the acids in your stomach.  I suppose I have time to run back to the store, but by this hour of a Sunday it may be crowded.  Oh, look, now I have another thing to dither over!

And I have a blog post of over 300 words.   Maybe they are not good words.  Perhaps I amused no one at all.  Nah, at least somebody reading it had to be at least mildly entertained.  I mean, “b-b-b-b noises” may not be comedy gold, but I find it worth a chuckle.  Perhaps I flatter myself.  No matter.  We’ll call this Wrist to Forehead Sunday and drive on.

I wonder if I will really make another post after the play, thus becoming caught up till the next time I miss a post.  A little suspense will add interest to my afternoon.
