A Little Bloom, A Little Blog

In the interests of once again becoming a daily blogger, I offer a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I swoon with the back of one wrist dramatically poised to the back of my forehead, usually because I do not have a good subject to blog upon today.  If only I had a chaise lounge to swoon upon, my life would be perfect!

Please send me flowers!

I add a picture in hopes of pepping up the post.  These are some brown-eyed susans in my back yard I had meant to take a picture of sooner. These flowers came with no effort on my part, so I appreciate their presence in my back yard.

It’s the little things.

Earlier today I did a little yard work, cutting down some wild grape vines and pricker bushes.  I filled another container for green waste pick-up on Monday (I filled one for last Monday, but it was a holiday so was not picked up)  As I pulled the bin up through the back yard, I saw one little bloom.  I went back to take a picture of it this afternoon, just to include it in the blog post.

I must up my yard work game.  Then again, I must up a lot of my games:  writing, blogging, house cleaning, crochet, etc.  Well one thing at a time. I made a Sunday blog post.  I thank you for tuning in.

Still Tuesday, Still Tired

I am having a Tired Tuesday and may be able to make my blog post before it is over.  At least, it may be Wednesday already according to my WordPress timestamp; it is still Tuesday according to, I don’t know, reality?  That’s too all-encompassing.  Let’s say Herkimer, NY time.

Can you do “He loves me, he loves me not” with these?

I throw in a picture to pep things up.  These were my Black-Eyed Susans last August.  I noticed some Brown-Eyed Susans blooming near my back steps yesterday and meant to take a picture.  It is too dark now, but maybe tomorrow.  I spent a couple of ambitious days doing yard work week before last then petered out.  I do not despair of getting back out there, although any real yard and garden plans will have to wait till 2026.

Oh, OK, I’ll try again.

I mentioned this quote in a letter to my sister Diane earlier. It is from the movie Galaxy Quest in case you didn’t know. I think I was lamenting my difficulty writing, but it may have been my difficulty cleaning.  I don’t suppose it is too late, even at my age, to improve at these things.

Substitute my cell phone for the candle.

They do say tomorrow is another day.  Of course they also say same shit, different day. I can’t worry about these things now.  I have made some semblance of a blog post.  Now I will try for some semblance of sleep.

Thank God It’s Lame Post Friday

Ah yes, the elusive daily blog post.  Today is Lame Post Friday, so at least I have an excuse to be foolish.  Oh who am I kidding?  Most of my posts are foolish.   Just consider the source, as grown-ups used to suggest when somebody picked on me as a child.  But let us not hark back to childhood memories. Yesterday was Throwback Thursday.

I sat on my front porch for a little while earlier this evening, but I did not observe anything of interest (in case anybody did not know or had forgotten, Lame Post Friday traditionally includes random observations and half-baked philosophy).  It was quite muggy with very little breeze.  However, the lack of breeze was an advantage while it was raining, as it did for a while.

Still pretty!

I thought I should throw in a picture to pep things up.  These are the Brown-Eyed Susans in my front yard in a picture I took last Saturday.  They are still blooming.  There are also a few smaller blooms in the backyard.  I meant to take a picture of those but forgot to do so before the sun went down.

I guess I do too.

Another picture to finish things off.  As I asked in a previous post, who doesn’t love a blood sucking fiend?  Perhaps some vampire movies will brighten my weekend.  I’ll be sure to mention it in a blog post if they do.

Brown Eyed Green Space?

Last week I did fine on making my Saturday and Sunday posts on their respective days.  This week I fear, not so much.  I made my Lame Post Friday post on Friday, and it is still Saturday as I begin my Saturday post, but will I finish it?  A little uncertainty adds interest to my weekend.

A few blooms to brighten my yard.

Earlier today as I left my house to walk somewhere to do something, I noticed some Brown-Eyed Susans had sprouted in my front lawn.  I previously cut down what I believed to be this plant in the back yard before any blooms appeared, because I felt the greenery was growing out of control.  The blooms pictured above sneaked in.  I took the picture with my phone and am pleased it turned out as well as it did, both the picture and the plant.

Greener than it was and may becone greener yet.

As I walked downtown, I paused to take a picture of the new green space in town where a Quackenbush building used to be.  Said building collapsed some time ago and the space was pretty much an eyesore till recently.  I am pleased it is looking better now.

I guess I will call this a Scattered Saturday Post, although there is not a whole lot of Scatter to it.  Still, it is over 200 words and I am making it on Saturday.   I say, Score!

Winging Through Another Blog Post

I thought I could manage a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.  Earlier I considered going to Cacciatore’s in Ilion, NY for music and 75 cent wings.  I’m a sucker for chicken wings.  However, like last night, I decided bra off was a better way to go (do NOT tell me TMI! I hate that expression!).

Pretty!

Once again I throw in a picture to pep things up.  Since I am billing this as Non-Sequitur Thursday, I looked for something unrelated.  These are the Brown-eyed Susans that grow around my deck.  I am SO ready for spring, as I suppose many folks are.  Yesterday at work, a woman said how much she was looking forward to working in her garden.  I agreed with her then confessed that what I was really looking forward to was sitting on my front porch with a cup of coffee or glass of wine.

 Jan in a pan!

I thought another unrelated picture would be appropriate.  It is from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, which I think is my favorite cheesy horror movie, and I watch a lot of cheesy horror movies.

Not quite how the neighborhood looks right now. For one reason, it’s dark out.

I close with a winter picture, because we are experiencing more winter weather these days.  Of course that is to be expected in February.  As they say (although I am not clear on who they are), better days are coming!  Will better blog posts follow?  I can hope, but no promises.  For one reason, tomorrow is Lame Post Friday.

Are You Tired of My Blog Posts?

It is, yes it is Tired Tuesday. It felt like a Monday, because of the three day weekend, and I think that made me even more tired: a Monday and Tuesday in one.

But just listen to me whine. And be boring. Can’t I think of anything more original to say than it felt like a Monday and I’m tired? Quick, throw in a picture to pep things up.

Pretty!

When in doubt, send flowers. My husband, Steven, was just saying today how much he loves our Brown-eyed Susans. This is a previously shared photo. I think they are even bigger now, but of course I am too tired to go outside and take another picture.

Menacing, no?

Here is a picture taken in August, but we have seen many days of dark, threatening clouds. I personally love them, although I realize we have gotten far too much rain in many areas. I imagine many people are, yes, tired of rain.

“I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up!”

In searching for a suitable picture to close with, I came across this beauty. The skeleton parts currently reside in a heap on our porch. Steven noticed them yesterday but did not remember them from last October (in his defense, he was dealing with some health issues).

“I took a picture for a blog post,” I said, mentioning the caption, which I have also used again. “I wonder if I can find it again.”

And it seems I did. I think it adds a certain je ne sais quoi to my otherwise random blog post. Or do I flatter myself?

Wrist to Flowers

Yesterday’s 10K really took it out of me. Could I be getting old? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!! More likely I do not lead a healthy enough lifestyle. Be that as it may, I am feeling too drained for anything but a quiet Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post. Luckily, I have a few pictures of my backyard to brighten things up.

Lots of yellow!

Going out my back door yesterday, I saw our Brown-eyed Susans were going great guns.

A longer view.
And the other side of the deck.

I continued down the yard to check out the Rose of Sharon and Black-eyed Susan’s.

Yay! More blooms!
Another angle.
More Black-eyed Susans as well.

As usual, flowers cheer me up. I still feel tired but not nearly so ready to swoon (you know, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist against my forehead). The coming week looms ahead of me, a threat or an opportunity? Time will tell. Time is certainly a blabbermouth.

In the meantime, I am almost up to 200 words. With six pictures, I call that a respectable blog post. Thank you for tuning in.

Hate the Heat, Love the Flowers

And yet I am not becoming noticeably smaller.

I am not a fan of summer. Sun worshippers can feel free to hate on me but all I can do is shake my sweaty head, very slowly. Oh, just listen to me whine! I am starting to hate on me myself!

Please ignore the weeds.

One good thing about summer is flowers. We started out ten years ago with one humble Black-eyed Susan, purchased at a sale to benefit Herkimer County Humane Society. Just look at them now!

Another view.

The Brown-eyed Susan’s just magically grew. They have expanded as well. I just can’t bear to cut them back.

Please ignore the hideous deck.
I think they are pretty.

Our Rose of Sharon is not as bloom-filled, much to our disappointment.

I see one flower!

Other Roses of Sharon (Rose of Sharons?) In the neighborhood are more colorful. If it becomes cool enough for a comfortable walk, I will try to get a few pictures for a future post.

In the meantime, I have managed to make a post of, well, not quite 200 words (I keep clicking on the counter up top to check). And it was not too painful (at least for me to write; obviously I cannot speak for any possible readers). Ah, there is 200. Keep cool, everyone!

Would Svengoolie Like My Container Garden?

He is fine, yes!

So far the highlight of my day was watching a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie.  How I went so many years of my life without this show… Oh well, I can watch it now.

However, I do not mean to make my blog post about Svengoolie, nor yet Snapped, which I have also been enjoying this Sunday.  Still, I have mentioned them.  Will that qualify this as a Non-Sequitur Sunday Post?  I hope so.

Svengoolie, Snapped and Susan!

When I began to realize I had almost nothing to say on a blog post, I went outside to take a picture of my Brown-eyed Susans, which are still growing prolifically.  I put the bucket in front of them earlier to prop them up, as they had begun to droop.  I guess it is a little unsightly.  I’ll have to come up with something else .

Pretty!

Next I went put front for a shot of my Johnny Jump-ups.  Aren’t they doing well?  I took another picture while I was at it.

An unknown plant.

You can’t really see this one very well.  I have no idea what it is, but it started growing where my peonies were after I cut them down.  I decided to let it live.  I’ll let you know if it amounts to anything.

I can only eat so much pesto, after all.

Back on the deck, I got a shot of my put of control basil.  I have not made as good use of it as I may have.  I wonder if I can dry it and use it this winter.

Not the most visually appealing display.

I took a picture of a couple other plants that were doing well.  My container garden is not as beautiful as I would like.  If I swept the deck and rearranged the pots, it would help.  However, as it becomes increasingly obvious that I will host no gatherings in the foreseeable future, I have become discouraged.

However, one must not give in to discouragement.  On the brighter side, I made my Sunday Post on Sunday.  And it wasn’t a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I’m going to call that a win.

From Little Falls to my Yard and Back

Sometimes Tired Tuesday follows Monstrous Monday,  we all know that.  I won’t bother telling you why I’m tired; explanations are so tiresome.  I will attempt instead to share a few pictures and make a non-tiresome post.  No promises.

A depiction how I feel: old and fat.

This is one of the pictures I took last Friday at Showcare Antiques of CNY in Little Falls.  In case you can’t read the card, it is an historical ovoid jug.  Ovoid is a good word, which, unfortunately my autocorrect wants to change to “avoid.”

I never gave him a name. Any suggestions?

Making this more of a Non-Sequitur Tuesday, I put in my alligator (or crocodile; I don’t know whether I will see him later or in a while).  I need to find a better spot for him.  Perhaps he would like to lurk amid my Brown-eyed Susans.

A place for a reptile to lurk?

I have several overgrown spots he might like.  He previously resided under Frankentree in my front yard, but I got tired of moving him every time I mowed.

Regular readers will remember Frankentree.

So I went from antiques in Little Falls to my yard in Herkimer.  Can I find another shot from Little Falls to tie this post together or will it be hopelessly non sequitur?

A great place for coffee and a snack.

I think this is a shot of Little Falls which maintains this post’s non sequitur status:  The Cafe at Stone Mill.

And here we are, approaching 250 words.  Happy Tuesday, everyone!
