Wuss-out, Wayback, Wordless, It’s Not Even Wednesday Anymore!

So I wussed out on Wuss-out Wednesday, not making a post at all. No excuses; as I often say, explanations are tiresome (I know this, because I usually try to explain things and it is almost always tiresome) (for me as well as the listener).  As I prepare for a 12-hour day (don’t ask), I thought I would attempt some semblance of a blog post, since I will no doubt be too tired to do so later.  I was thinking Way-back Wednesday when I had the heady thought, Wordless Wednesday.  Just pictures!  I can shut up!

As if I ever do that!

Just to put you in the picture: I am ten-finger typing on my dining-room-table-top (which regular readers may recall began life as an ordinary laptop).  I thought it would be quicker, but this computer takes forever to boot up and for any pages to open up.  Yikes!  It is sheer relief that I am sitting here typing and not watching one of those little circles swirling, swirling…

But I digress.

Alas, not my New Year’s Eve outfit.

I believe I wore this fabulous ensemble to the Ilion Little Theatre Christmas party in 2016.  Then again, I had a more active social life in those days, so I may have been going somewhere else.  Now that I look at it again, all I can see is the clutter at the bottom of the stairs.  Perhaps if I had not said anything, some people would not have noticed. Oh well, I have never denied the fact that I am a lousy housekeeper.

I see I have blathered on for over 250 words.  Score!  If I wuss out again this evening (which, full disclosure, I fully expect to do),  perhaps I could manage a Non-Sequitur Thursday post tomorrow.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

That Elusive Fabulous Outfit

I think I mentioned that part of my Scattered Saturday yesterday was spent searching for a fabulous outfit to wear as Philomena Billingsford, wealthy philanthropist, in Secrets at Suiter House, the murder mystery soon to be presented as a fundraiser for the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I was unsuccessful, but I have time. What I have less time for, though, is to come up with something to wear TODAY!

We are going to an event as soon as Steven gets home from work.  I am getting a little worried, though, because our friend, Kim, who was supposed to drive, has not gotten back to me.  Of course it is no problem to drive or even walk there ourselves, but these things are far more fun with a friend.  As soon as I figure out what to wear.

The event in question is St. Anthony Crusader’s Annual Wine Tasting.  Hobby and professional wine makers offer samples of their wares, which will also be adjudicated by professional judges.  It runs from 1 to 3:30 p.m. today at the Herkimer, NY, VFW, I add in case I hit Publish and anybody reads this in time to go.  It should be a lot of fun; it has been in past years.

Cost is $10.  There are also prizes and raffles.  We did not win anything last year, but I won a beautiful necklace and earrings donated by Weisser’s Jewelers one year.  Ooh, maybe that should make up part of my fabulous outfit.

Anyways, this is my Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  After all, what could be more swoon-worthy than having nothing to wear to a fun event coming up in — just over an hour!  Yikes!  Gotta go!

Well, I Need Fabulous Feet

So I’m still posting about Leading Ladies (you know, that play I directed at Ilion Little Theatre; I’ve written a few blog posts about it), but here is another post that is mostly about me (I know, what isn’t?) and incorporates a shout-out to a local business.

I’ve mentioned how as director I have to give the curtain speech before performances, pointing out the emergency exits, reminding people to turn off their phones and basically welcoming them.  It is a good idea to dress nicely for such a chore.  Well, I wear army pants and steel-toe shoes to work every day.  When I have a chance to dress up, I like to look fabulous.  Additionally, I told the cross-dressing guys in my show that I would wear uncomfortable shoes in solidarity with them.

I don’t often wear uncomfortable shoes, but I have several pair.  Some of them didn’t used to be too uncomfortable, before I had bunion surgery on both feet.  Sometimes I think I ought to get rid of stuff I never wear.  Then I don’t do anything about it until I find an opportunity to wear them again.  So it was that on Friday I pulled out my black patent-leather pumps, feeling pleased with myself.

Only to realize that the doo-dah had come off the heel (when I don’t know the official name for something, I call it a doo-dah). Damn!  I had had those doo-dahs replaced — good God, over ten years ago! —  when we lived in Georgia.  Who knew they would all off again?  I found another pair of shoes to wear that night.  The next night, having found an even more fabulous outfit, I was happy to pull out the short suede boots my sister gave me years ago.  Imagine my chagrin to find that this pair suffered the same problem.  Once again, I was glad I hadn’t gotten rid of the pair of shoes I wore instead.

Thus it was that after work today, I stopped by Melfe’s Shoe Service in Ilion, NY.  This is wear I get my work footwear, but I figured they could do repairs on something more fabulous.  I was right.  Unfortunately, they won’t be ready for a week or more.  Rats!  I wanted to wear them to the show this weekend.  I said I knew I was taking my chances bringing them in on Wednesday, but I hadn’t even known they needed the repair before last Friday.

“Oh well,” I philosophized.  “I’ll just have to invent another occasion to wear them on.”

“Or it’s an occasion for shoe shopping,” the clerk suggested.  I like the way she thinks.

Melfe’s is located at 64 Central Ave, Ilion, phone number 315-894-.4049.

Bargain from the Basement

I believe I mentioned going shopping with my sister last Saturday in hopes of finding a fabulous outfit for this Saturday’s projected wine tasting tour. One of the best stops was at The Village Basement Consignment Shoppe in New Hartford, NY.

The Shoppe is located in the basement under Joette’s. It’s one of those buildings built into a hill. The entrance is in the back of the building, where the parking lot is. We could already see some cute clothes through the window.

I love consignment shops, because you never know what you might find. They are a little problematic, though, because you might not find it in your size. Then again, I tend to shop the clearance racks, where there is no guarantee your size will be left.

What I found Saturday fit me perfectly: a silk-looking shirt in royal blue and white. And it was only four dollars! What a bargain!

Earlier that day I had found on a clearance rack (of course) at Burlington Coat Factory a pair of black pants. I have not tried on the two pieces together yet, but I’ve kind of got my hopes up.

The Village Basement also has furniture, books and all kinds of stuff. I only checked out clothes on Saturday, so I must make a return trip soon to look at other things. When I do, I will probably venture upstairs to Joette’s, which has all kinds of wonderful jewelry and accessories.

Full disclosure: I am writing this post on Monday. I am trying to lessen my stress from having so much to do as the week wears on. I thought at least I can get ahead on my blog posts. Now if I could also work on laundry during my breaks at work, I would be all set.

And having typed this post in on Tuesday, I will disclose: still stressed. Also, I tried on the pants and shirt together: don’t like them. I still like each piece separately, so that’s good, but I am still without a fabulous wine tasting outfit. Stay tuned for further developments.

The Village Basement is located at 70 Genesee St., New Hartford, NY 13413. Phone number 733-4794. They are open Wed. to Fri from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
