After the Snow, Adventures?

I had meant to make a post yesterday (Monday) about my adventures in snow shoveling (yes, I did try to PUSH the snow when possible, don’t judge me), but I neglected to take before or after pictures, and then, well, time got away from me.  I managed to NOT give myself a heart attack.  Note to self:  do not watch Reels on Facebook that explain with illustrations just how easy it is for a woman of my age to do that.

Where was I?  Ah yes, on Tuesday morning, hoping to make some semblance of a blog post.  Quick, throw in a picture to pep things up.

Random snow shot from a couple of years ago.

Most things have been shut down around here since Sunday.  I think they are back open today, so it would be a good idea if I got out and gave a local business some, you know, business.  I can’t keep the local economy going all by myself, but I can spend a few dollars here and there and give some local places a shout out.

Maybe I could buy myself a Valentine.

This is a decoration from Home Town Diner on Main Street in Mohawk, NY.  I’ve already eaten breakfast, but I will be hungry for lunch before I know it.  I could also stop by To Niche Their Own in Herkimer.  I don’t think I have ever taken decent pictures there nor given them a proper shout-out, but I did purchase some excellent Christmas presents there last month.

Will I make it to Little Falls?

And there is my new favorite bookstore, Athenix Books and Brews.  There are a number of good places in Little Falls: Venture Fourth, Chickweed Boutique, the Mustard Seed… I’m sure to leave somebody out.  Oh dear.

So now I have cheered myself up to the tune of 300 words of blog post and plans.  I hope everybody has their parking lot plowed out by now!

Good Breakfast!

This morning I had a good breakfast at the Home Town Diner in Mohawk, NY.  I was meeting some friends and had suggested the place.  We ate there once before and enjoyed it.

It’s a nice place.

I did not take any pictures; this is from when I ate there the first time, by myself.  I love to go out for breakfast.  My favorite thing to order is a breakfast sandwich, which I had this morning:  ham, egg and cheese on an English muffing, yes please!  A couple of my friends had omelets, which looked pretty good.  The hash browns looked tempting, too.  Maybe next time I will ask my friends if I can get a picture of them around the table.  In case any of my blog readers think I am making it up and I really don’t have any friends.

Also from a previous visit.

The last time I was at the Home Town Diner I had waffles with fruit, which was the special that morning.  Yum!  I did not see any breakfast specials on the board, but I know they often have good lunch specials.  Note to self:  go to the Home Town Diner for lunch.

We lingered over coffee, chatting.  It was a very pleasant morning.

The Home Town Diner is located at 150 West Main St., Mohawk, NY, phone number 315-927-4149.  You can follow them on Facebook to hear about their specials.

Breakfast? Yes, Please!

I was delighted to discover a new place for breakfast and lunch:  the Home Town Diner in Mohawk, NY.  The building has housed diners before but has been empty some years now.  When I saw a sign saying they were opening Sept. 2, I knew I would be there soon.  This morning I was very happy to do so.

For one reason, I was starving!  Yes, yes, that is an exaggeration (which you have told me a million times not to do) (you know who you are).  I had been driving around Ilion, hoping to get a picture to go with the article I was emailing to the Sentinel about last night’s Village Board of Trustees Meeting.  I was not meeting with success.  I was going to go home and cook myself a sad little egg when I drove by the Home Town Diner.  That would be much better!

The small pictures are old postcards, which you know I love!

I ordered an egg sandwich with bacon egg and cheese on an English muffin.  Regular readers now how much I love egg sandwiches!  I also had coffee and a glass of water.  I had been drinking tea at my house earlier, in deference to my aging stomach.  I love tea, but ooh, that coffee tasted good.  The water tasted good too.  When I noticed they charged me for it, I asked if it was bottled.  The waitress told me it was spring water.  I certainly enjoyed it.  I enjoyed the sandwich too.

The diner is a family business, and a new endeavor for the family. They also run the car business next door. When they purchased the building, it had been gutted.  Now everything is new and beautiful.  I looked forward to going there again.  After all, I still have to report on lunch!

I’ll have to get a better shot with fewer reflections.

The Home Town Diner is located at 150 West Main St., Mohawk, NY, phone number 315-927-4149.  They are currently open seven days, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., with breakfast till 11 a.m.  You can find them on Facebook.
