Don’t Look Now, But…

Thursday I gimped my way to Yetty’s Pizza and Pasta of Herkimer, NY.  I sat at a table instead of the bar as I usually do.  Partway through my chicken sandwich (Yum, by the way), I saw that we were being watched.

An excellent vantage point.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at seeing a Yeti at Yetty’s.  I thought it was delightful and wondered why I hadn’t noticed it before. No doubt because my back is too him at the bar.  How rude of me.

I zoomed in.

My close-up turned out kind of blurry.  That means I have an excellent excuse to return to Yetty’s soon.

Yetty’s is open Thursday through Sunday, and they are still open, despite the For Sale sign out front.  If you are in Herkimer and are hungry, I suggest you stop in!

Slacking But Still Blogging!

I am going to make a Slacker Saturday post before I continue to slack.  Full disclosure:  I slack many days.  I have always been kind of a lazy bum.

NOT a slacker.

I am looking at an episode of Columbo, which I found on Roku TV recently.  Regular readers know how much I love Columbo.  Earlier today I went on a two mile run, and after I finish this post I will walk to the post office with my usual Saturday post cards, which I have already written.  I am afraid that is the extent of my productivity today.  Well, I might work on a letter as I go.  No promises.

Good place to eat.

Maybe I will treat myself to dinner later.  There are several good choices in Herkimer. This is the first one I came to in my Media Library.

I could never do my hair this way alone.

How vain of me to share a picture of myself.  It relates to the post, however, because this is from the Ilion Little Theatre production of Prescription: Murder, the first episode of Columbo, which was also a stage play.  I was the murder victim, and I think a lot of people were happy to see me go.  It was probably the only way to shut me up.

It is easier to shut me up from blogging, and I will sign off now.  I hope to have a Mohawk Valley Adventure soon to write a blog about.  When I am done slacking.

Good Breakfast!

This morning I had a good breakfast at the Home Town Diner in Mohawk, NY.  I was meeting some friends and had suggested the place.  We ate there once before and enjoyed it.

It’s a nice place.

I did not take any pictures; this is from when I ate there the first time, by myself.  I love to go out for breakfast.  My favorite thing to order is a breakfast sandwich, which I had this morning:  ham, egg and cheese on an English muffing, yes please!  A couple of my friends had omelets, which looked pretty good.  The hash browns looked tempting, too.  Maybe next time I will ask my friends if I can get a picture of them around the table.  In case any of my blog readers think I am making it up and I really don’t have any friends.

Also from a previous visit.

The last time I was at the Home Town Diner I had waffles with fruit, which was the special that morning.  Yum!  I did not see any breakfast specials on the board, but I know they often have good lunch specials.  Note to self:  go to the Home Town Diner for lunch.

We lingered over coffee, chatting.  It was a very pleasant morning.

The Home Town Diner is located at 150 West Main St., Mohawk, NY, phone number 315-927-4149.  You can follow them on Facebook to hear about their specials.

I Heard PKs Was a Good Place to Eat

I have forgotten to mention a great place to go for breakfast in Herkimer:  PK’s Pub.  Steve and I used to love going to PK’s for dinner — always saving room for dessert! — so I was sure breakfast there would be good.

No, I don’t have booze for breakfast. Usually.

The first couple of times I went I enjoyed my favorite breakfast sandwich, once with just egg and cheese, once with ham egg and cheese.  Then I tried the special of French toast with strawberries and cream cheese.  YUM!  The other day I stopped in hoping that was on the special board and it was. Yay!  I ordered it as soon as I sat down.  I took out my notebook and started a letter to a friend while I waited.

The people at the table next to me were having a lively discussion.  When I became annoyed by the bright sun beaming through the window into my eye (I know, so wrong to complain about the sun!), I moved one seat over, which brought me closer to the discussion.

“I’m not trying to get closer to eavesdrop, ” I felt I needed to reassure them.  “I just want to get in the shade.”

“Anyways, you’re writing,” one of the ladies pointed out.  Then they noticed I was writing in cursive and the discussion switched to how kids aren’t taught that any more and can’t read it.

“So we can write in code,”  I said.  “Anyways, with my handwriting, even some people who can read cursive can’t read it.”

One of the ladies said her handwriting was terrible too, and we all had a laugh about writing in code.  When I left, they said to let them know when my book was published.  I admitted I was only writing a letter (why am I not writing a book?).  They suggested a book comprised of conversations overheard, and I said they may have something there.  At least it would give me a good excuse to go out for meals or drinks more often!

PK’s Pub is located at 221 King St., Herkimer, NY, phone number 315-866-3494.

Good Thursday Dinner

Today I post a brief shout-out to a local business, one of our favorite go-to spots:  Salvatore’s in Herkimer, NY.  When I got home from work today, my husband, Steve, said he wanted to go out or send out for dinner.

“I want to GO out,” I said.

I took my shower and got on the computer to check my email and other notifications.  It was still early for dinner, but we were both hungry.  Soon enough I was ready to go.  Salvatore’s is not that far from our house, but I drove.

I love autumn decor.

I had noticed the fall decorations last weekend when I ran this way.  I made sure I brought the Tablet so I could get a picture.

We both had a glass of Chardonnay with dinner.  I got a Chicken Greek Wrap with pasta salad while Steven enjoyed Chicken Tenders with ranch dip.  I had a couple of bites of Steve’s chicken.  Deep fried!   Yum!  It was with difficulty that I limited myself to just two bites.  This is why I have rarely meet my weight loss goals.

We both took home leftovers.  That is one of my favorite things about eating out.  On the way out, I took a couple of pictures of the decor.

I need some pumpkins and corn stalks for my front porch.

It was a lovely supper.  And now only one more day till the weekend!
