Wednesday Once Again

I was pretty sure I would go to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort for music and food tonight, but I pretended to myself that I was debating.  At last I agreed with myself that if I did the dishes I could go to Fratello’s as a reward.  Judge me if you choose for neglecting the dishes (never mind how long it has been);  I have to take my motivations where I find them.

The real lure to Fratello’s was that Mark Nanni was playing.  He is the virtuoso who plays keyboard, guitar, and accordion.  Another listener once dubbed him Billy Bad-Ass (I may have mentioned that in another blog post).  It is certainly the truth.

He is da man!

Nanni puts a bluesy-jazzy sound on many of the tunes he plays.  I greatly enjoyed it.

Here’s the thing:  while I listened and enjoyed my food,  I was taking notes on the music and my interactions with other patrons.  Right now,  I do not have the motivmotivation or mental wherewithal to include these things in the blog post. Is that not typical for a Wednesday?  I find the energy to do something blogworthy but lack enough energy to make it a blog.

Go figure.  However, I see I am over 200 words. Perfectly fine for a Wuss-out Wednesday Post.  Happy Mid-week, everyone!

Music and Fun at Fratello’s

Wednesday night I went to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY, because I saw that Mark Nanni was playing.  He’s awesome!  He plays keyboard, guitar, and accordion (no, not all at once, as I am sure some of you were about to say) (you know who you are).  When I walked in, one of the workers greeted me and told me Mark Nanni was playing.

“I know, that’s why I’m here,”  I said.

I love his sound.

While I waited for the music to start I ordered some food and a glass of wine.  Then I got into a discussion with some other patrons about my flowered headband, which I wore because it goes so nicely with my Beer Belly Bob’s tie-dye t-shirt.

“I was a little worried it would make me look like that lady they said killed her husband and fed him to the tigers,” I admitted.  I further admitted I never saw the popular Netflix series on the case, although I did see Dateline episode about it.  One of them looked up the lady’s name, and another shared me a picture.

This is me, by the way.

I believe the resemblance is only superficial, but it was a funny conversation.  I did wonder while I was getting dressed if I would remind people of that lady, and it seems I did, because they were the ones that brought it up.  I told them a friend said I looked like Frieda Kahlo and that they would sound more cultured if they made that reference instead.   I kind of lost them there.

I was delighted when the music started,  Nanni opened with a jazzy tune, which further delighted me.  In one song he transitioned smoothly from guitar to keyboard and back to guitar.  Nice!

It was a lovely evening.  I shall return to Fratello’s soon for more music and food, perhaps wearing a different hair ornament.

Yet Another Late Post About Good Music

Once you make one late post, it is so easy to make another!  Is that what they refer to as a “slippery slope” (whoever “they” is)?  Oh well, I am often late with my Wednesday posts, due to coming home lazy after a good meal and great music at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY.  Never mind, here is my almost weekly shout-out to one of my favorite places.

He is so talented!

I saw on Facebook that Mark Nanni would be performing.  He is so fun to watch, because he plays keyboard, guitar and accordion.  The other reason I wanted to go out was to order a salad, so I would have leftovers to bring for my lunch Thursday and Friday.  Lately if I eat anything but salad for lunch, I get so bloated.  Sorry, didn’t mean to over-share (even though that is what I usually do).

My husband, Steve, and I mostly wanted to hear some good local music to cheer ourselves up, and Nanni did not disappoint.  We did not get to hear him play the accordion last night, but the keyboard and guitar (sometimes both during the same song) were excellent.  We applauded loudly.

Back home, just like last week, we watched a DVR’d episode of Reasonable Doubt.  I can’t seem to live without my true crime fix.

Just to have another illustration.

Yes! More Music!

It is a week of returns! Tonight my husband, Steve, and I returned to our favorite Wednesday night thing of going to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY for food and music!

I had a cheeseburger, adding sauteed mushrooms and onions. Steven enjoyed a shrimp basket. And we grooved to the tunes of Mark Nanni!

He is multi-talented.

Full disclosure: this is a picture from a previous night when we heard Nanni. He plays guitar, keyboard, and accordion. We were loving it!

On previous Wednesdays we have been waited on by our favorite bartender, Toni. Tonight we had Kayla, who was also a delightful server. I admired her butterfly pen. She said she was into fun pens, and I said Toni was, too.

“She has a llama pen,” Kayla said.

“We gave it to her!” I said. I mentioned Toni’s mermaid tail pen.

“She stole it from me!” Kayla said. Now the truth comes out! Oh well, I have been known to filch a writing implement or two in my time.

We had a wonderful time. I was happy we returned to our favorite Wednesday night thing.

Another Nice Evening, Another Late Post

Here I am on Thursday morning pecking in Wednesday’s post (one letter at a time with the stylus; I really need to get a new laptop). What can I say? I’m still tired.

He’s cool.

Last night we enjoyed some great music with Mark Nanni at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY. We also enjoyed yummy food and saw our favorite bartender, Toni.

Nanni plays keyboard, guitar and accordian. Another patron was especially delighted with the accordian. He said his grandfather used to play it every night, but he had not heard it in 16 years.

I like the accordian, too!

It was a lovely evening, but I felt too tired to write about it last night. I read a book instead. It was the Ron Chernow biography of Alexander Hamilton. Good book, too.

Accordion, Too!

I never wrote much about Mark Nanni, the musician we enjoyed at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort recently.

We loved him!

He played keyboard, guitar and accordion. Another patron was enjoying the music a lot, too.

“I’m going to call you Billy Bad-ass!” he said.

Mark graciously accepted the compliment, remarking that you can’t give yourself a name like that; it has to be bestowed upon you.

You don’t see a lot of accordions these days.

The accordion made me think of Fritz’s Polka Band, another local favorite. I see that my list of local favorites grows. I say, bring it! I love music.

Music on my Mind

I guess I had a real Wordless Wednesday as I went to bed without posting at all. I don’t have time for a real post right now (I have to work for a living), so how about a few pictures of local musicians instead?

Yay, music!

Last night Steven and I enjoyed music by Matt Grainger at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY.

Another favorite!

Here is another shot of Phil Arcuri at Iron Rock Brewing Company in Little Falls.

He was awesome too!

This is Mark Nanni, whose music we enjoyed last Wednesday at Fratello’s.

We have been enjoying a lot of good music lately. I hope soon to enjoy making more blog posts. As always, thank you for tuning in.
