Ten Years, Tired Post

Here I am on my ten year blogiversary (don’t know how It’s spelled) and about to make a pretty poor Slacker Saturday Post. I get so tired by thus time on a Saturday! I went for a long, hard (for me) run this morning, did some pretty strenuous yard work as well as a bit of housework, then I spent the afternoon adventuring with my friend Kim.

I took pictures of some of our adventures, meaning to make some good blog posts touting local businesses. I can still do that eventually.

You know I loves me some flowers!

We spent some time wandering around The Flower Barn in Ilion, NY. However, I could not bring myself to actually purchase anything. I was worried that I would not actually plant what I bought. After much debate and a couple of false starts, we had a nice lunch at The Saalty Dog in Frankfort.

Full disclosure: I did not see an actual dog.

Back home, I have done a little more laundry (need to do more, but I can’t always do the right thing) and a few other household chores. I feel I am making progress in that direction but do not rule out the possibility that I am kidding myself.

Am I kidding myself about this blogging business? I guess that depends on what I am telling myself. Right now I am telling myself: I post, people read, some people like it. Sounds good to me! Here’s to another ten years!

After and Before?

Time for a quick Throwback Thursday Post. I am tired, as usual these days. In my defense, I mowed my lawn with the non-power mower in the warm weather. OK, I did a pretty lousy job. And I am a big baby. You knew that about me.

Damn it looked good!

This is our Rose of Sharon in April 2017. April! At least, it was in the blog in April. Perhaps the picture was taken in a later month of 2016, because our Rose of Sharon does not look nearly this good now. Oh dear. And yes, I am obviously too lazy to go take a picture of it now.

A little back lit.

I overcame my laziness to walk out back and take the above shot. There is actually more green than I had realized. Now this post is less of a Throwback, but I do not despair. It can always be a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.

Preview of coming attractions.

Here are our daisies in 2017. None have bloomed yet. In fact, that space is currently dominated by forget-me-nots, as I showed in a more recent blog post.

Just a couple days ago.

It seems this blog is a bit flower obsessed these days. I find that appropriate for spring. I hope to do some real gardening this weekend. I will have even more pictures of flowers to share! As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Once Again, Monsters to the Rescue!

I want to make a blog post. However, I do not want to make yet another post about how I just can’t seem to make a post. I also do not want to spend any time whining about my personal problems. I know! Mid-week Monsters! That will solve everything!

It’s easy to lose your head over these things.

Here are a couple of creepy guys from Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit, NY. How many months till they open back up?

“May I have this dance?”

I’m not sure where I got this photo, but it appears to be a video case of one of our favorite movies, House on Haunted Hill. Old movie, old medium, I believe I am veering into Way-back Wednesday territory. Who says I can’t multi-task? Oh yeah, I usually say it.

Isn’t he cute?

Now I veer into cuteness, with this adorable little vampire. What a sweet smile! The awesome pot was sent to me by my friend, Marsha. She knows I love all things Halloween. The orange cloth is an old t-shirt which has a logo on it for a business I no longer care to promote.

Ooh, I am approaching 200 words. One more blog post in the books! By the way, in a very few days it will be ten years I have been writing this blog. Do you suppose I should celebrate? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Don’t Forget My Flowers

For my Tired Tuesday post, I shall share the pictures I took after leaving the Grand Colonial Bed and Breakfast yesterday. I turned down Main Street and walked toward the post office.

I saw a classic truck I tried to take a picture of, but I was unable to zoom in. When I tried, I could only put it in Selfie Mode. Who wants to see a selfie of me! Nobody needs to see that! I took a shot of some forget-me-nots instead.

I particularly like the rocks.

I took care not to include any identifying characteristics of the house. I did not see any more photo-ops (is that a hyphenated word?) till I got home and decided to take a picture of my own forget-me-nots. They seem to be taking over my front yard, although I expect the daisies will soon give them some spirited competition.

The dandelions are not giving up either.

I went out back to get a shot of the forget-me-nots there, but they have not grown together as thickly so the picture did not turn out well. It is kind of surprising, because they have been out back since we moved in but only appeared out front in the last year or so. I took a picture of some wild violets instead.

Another favorite of mine.

These particular violets will soon be overshadowed by Black-eyed Susans. That flower has grown and spread but so far has remained in the same patch of lawn. At least, I hope I have as many as I did last year. I think the chives as well as a couple of really young trees are also fighting for a bit of that soil.

I’m wondering if I should just let these plants duke it out amongst themselves or perhaps try to instill some order in the chaos. Considering the disorder which reigns in the rest of my life, I question how effective my efforts would be. In any case, I’ll be sure to take more pictures and keep you posted. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

No Lilacs, But a Nice Visit

I have been wanting to be more consistent about getting exercise, so was determined to walk or run today. My preference was to walk and take pictures for a Pedestrian Post. After I got home I finished a couple of letters so I could multi-task by taking them to the post office. Full disclosure: I noticed a third letter I had meant to finish but decided to leave it for tomorrow. I am such a one for starting things and not finishing them!

I had seen a Facebook post from Grand Colonial Bed and Breakfast reminding us to stop and smell the lilacs. They have lilacs? I thought. It was very little out of my way to go by the Grand Colonial. I like to smell lilacs. I smelled some in a neighbor’s house but did not take a picture.

As it happens, the person who made the post was just speaking in general. The Grand Colonial has no lilacs. However, I was glad I stopped by, because I had a nice chat with one of the owners, who happened to be outside at the time.

I took a picture of the flowers they did have.

They are planning some major landscaping in June. I was invited to return and take more pictures. I will certainly do that. Additionally, I am trying to talk my husband Steven into going to the Colonial to stay a night, just for something fun and different. I took a picture of the side porch to entice him.

Picture it: relaxing on the porch!

I don’t know if I ever mentioned that I wrote an article about the Grand Colonial for Mohawk Valley Living magazine. At that time they showed me around the place, and I was enchanted.

Yes, we could be sleeping here.

The Grand Colonial Bed and Breakfast is located at 112 W. German St., Herkimer NY, phone number 315-982-5004.

I shall write about the rest of my walk tomorrow.

And My Finger Is Sore

This is going to be a short, grumpy post. Oh, and a late post. I am sitting on my couch, icing my suspected tennis elbow (not diagnosed, because the insurance at my new job hasn’t kicked in yet), sipping coffee, and pecking away at my Tablet, using my finger, because I left (or lost) my stylus pen upstairs. I guess these are what they snarkily call First World Problems. I call it pissing (no, not kissing, autocorrect!) and moaning about nothing in particular.

That was a long paragraph for me.

I took a long run yesterday. It would have made a great Running Commentary Post, if I had remembered all the in-head narration with which I entertained myself as I went. These thing very often do not work out for me.

I mowed the lawn but did not do enough else to make a Lawn Order Post eligible. Likewise my movie viewing was insufficient for a proper Cinema Sunday Post.

So this is my Late Post About Not Making a Post Yesterday. I really must replace my laptop and get back to ten-fingered typing. And make more better blog posts.

Fun Times

Time for a quick Scattered Saturday Post, a little late, maybe. Judge me if you ate so inclined.

I had to work from 5 to 11 in the morning, but my friend Kim and I got together around lunchtime. We started at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer.

After that we went to Ilion Marina to walk around and look at the water.

Pretty!

I was still hungry, so I got a hotdog at Voss. Yum! Then we decided we were still thirsty, so we went to Heelpath Brewing in Frankfort for another glass of wine. Yes, we drink wine at a brewery. In our defense, it is from Rustic Ridge Winery in Burlington Flats. You can’t get that just anywhere.

Alas, I did not take any pictures at Heelpath. Maybe I can find one in my Media Library.

With Brian the Brewer.

It was a fun afternoon, which quite frankly we both needed. It’s back to reality on Sunday, when I’ll try to get some chores done around the house. We’ll see what kind of a blog post I can get out of that.

I Lame Myself

I neglected to mention something that happened on Wednesday’s run. When I realized it, I thought, How brainless of me! Then I thought, It’s perfect for Lame Post Friday!

There I was, running (thunking, really) along, admiring flowers, observing various home improvements, in general keeping my mind off how much my run was sucking. This is an excellent technique for running, by the way: distract yourself. So I was wondering why this particular lawn was more yellow than green when down I went.

I don’t know what I tripped on (for God’s sake, autocorrect, tripped is a word, why are you changing it to dropped?), but as I went down I remember telling myself NOT to try to break my fall with my hands, because it is easy to break a wrist. Of course I did not tell myself that soon enough, but all I did was skin the heel of one hand a little.

Oh, and I landed hard on my left knee. Ouch! I got right back up and continued to run, so I knew it wasn’t too bad. One time I fell on a knee, I limped the rest of the way home. Still, it did not feel good.

For the rest of the run, I kept trying to look down at my injury. I could see two little trickles of blood, but they did not travel far. I considered how ironic but not surprising it would be if I fell and scraped my right knee while I was trying to look at my left. However, I made it home without further mishap.

I was also thinking about how I would include the event in my Running Commentary Post. I would mention that I am not one to photograph my injuries to share. This would add interest to my blog post.

I did not remember till much later that I had completely left it out. How silly of me! It was even — dare I say? — lame!

Kitties, Pizza, Cheese: Is This Non-Sequitur Thursday?

I had a Mohawk Valley Adventure today! I have not had one of those on a weekday after work in a while. You see, I had a donation to bring to H.A.L.O. House in Little Falls, NY for their yard sale. And here’s a real pisser for you: I just went to their Facebook page and found out the sale has been postponed to the first weekend in June! Well, I still made the donation and I can still plug the sale. On with the post!

The trunk of my car.

I had books and VHS tapes to donate. Now that the sale has been postponed, perhaps I can find a few household items to add. I dropped what I had at H.A.L.O. House.

I like kitties, although I am allergic.

Since I was in Little Falls, I went to Canal Place to get some dinner from Mangia Macrina’s Wood-Fired Pizza. Yum!

It’s a decorative oven, I think.

The fellow behind the counter admired my shirt from Original Herkimer Cheese. I wonder if I can find a picture of it in my Media Library.

One of my favorite shirts!

As I left the pizzeria, I noticed some lovely flowers and just had to take a picture.

I want purple tulips and a magnolia tree!

I felt it was a productive afternoon. H.A.L.O.’s yard sale will be June 4 and 5 at 615 Albany Street, Little Falls, NY. Mangia Macrina’s Wood-Fired Pizza is at the Stone Mill, Canal Place, Little Falls, NY. Herkimer Original Cheese is located at 2745 Route 51, Ilion, NY. You can find all three of these on Facebook.

Phew! One adventure, three plugs, I call that OK for a weekday blog post. Happy Thursday, everyone!
