Sick Day With Very Little Brain

It’s only a sinus infection!

I have been glumphing along, acting like I have some hideous, mysterious, deadly disease — perhaps a new shot-resistant flu strain — I was inches away from hospitilization and a lingering, painful death.  Oh well, I knew it was nothing that serious, but that did not stop me from feeling and sharing complete misery.

Oh go ahead and play that miniature violin, and list all the people who have worse ills than me and no doubt complain much less.  I know I am being ridiculous; many people are ridiculous when they get a little sickypoo.  For one excuse, I don’t have a whole lot else to blog about, and very little brain to blog about what I do have.

What my head feels like.

I went to the doctor today and am currently waiting for the Medicine Shoppe in Ilion to deliver my prescription.  How awesome is that?  Home delivery!  Many people have to get their drugs in dark alleys or on street corners.

Hey, buddy, could you lend me a little of that brain?

I have been looking for this picture for days!  I always like to use it when I am feeling particularly brain dead (cue unkind remarks about my usual lack of brain).  It is The Brain from Planet Arous. The other picture is from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die.  As a sad side note, I saw on Facebook that the lady that played said Brain just died.

So it’s another Blogger’s Sick Day,  and a Wuss-out Wednesday as well.  I have great hopes for the prescription I await.

Apparently I Can Also Whine And Post

The run of Blogger’s Sick Days continues with a brief Tired Tuesday post.  I spent most of the day at work whining that I didn’t feel good and I wanted to go home. Fortunately I can work and whine at the same time (although in general I do not believe in multi-tasking), so I was not completely useless.  They frown upon complete uselessness at my place of employment.  However,  this is not a work blog, so enough about that topic.

Hmmm… there does not seem to be much else to say.  I feel sick, here’s my blog post.  Rather a dull post.  Perhaps I could pep things up with something from my Media Library.

Reflective of my mood?

Here is a shot of storm clouds moving into my neighborhood.  I observed some good dark clouds on my drive home from work, but I did not have anything to photograph them with.

Oh, just shoot me.

I guess this makes it Non-Sequitur Tuesday.   It is Bette Davis in The Letter, a movie I do not have on DVD but catch when I can on TCM.

I would love to have this mug in my collection.

Now we’re back to sequiturs,  because Davis was certainly a deadly woman in that movie.

And now I am over 200 words.  Deadly or not, this has been my Tired Tuesday post.

Running Commentary Interrupted

I made a doctor’s appointment, so maybe I can stop having Blogger’s Sick Days.  In the meantime,  I will try to make some semblance of a post.

Yesterday I did not mention it, but I had intended to make a Running Commentary post.  I started the day feeling better than I had on Saturday, and I am still hoping to participate in the Reindeer Run 5K in Little Falls next month. I donned leggings and a long sleeved running shirt, added a hat and gloves, and off I went.

And it was a pretty good run.  My legs felt OK, my breathing was good, I was pleasantly surprised.  Another thing I forgot to mention was that I had not gone running since last Saturday (judge me if you are so inclined).  This was all right!

So there I was, calculating how long I felt I could continue,  then adding 10 percent per week, picturing the calendar… the usual mental mathematics in which I often indulge while on a run. Then it happened.

I don’t know what I tripped on, but down I went!  One knee, then the other, then both hands at once.  Ow!

I stood back up, saying, “Ow, ow, ow,”  briefly considered started to run again, realized this was not going to happen, started limping towards home, puncturing each step with a pathetic “Ow.”  I looked around, hoping for a passing car or pedestrian.  If the latter, I would have asked them to call my husband to come get me.  If the former, I may have asked for a ride home.

Of course, no such helpful bystanders were available at that time on a Sunday morning.  It’s just as well, because my knee stopped being so painful after a block or two.  I guess walking it off is really a thing.

One knee was just a little skinned, but the one I came down on first had a big bloody spot.  However, it was not dripping blood, so I counted my blessings.  I had a bandage big enough to cover it, so the blessings continued.

I posted my mishap on Facebook, nobly refraining from taking a picture (I never like looking at other people’s bloody pictures), in what I admitted was a pathetic bid for sympathy.  I got some.  People are nice.

My knee still hurts today, and partway through the day I realized my arms and shoulders were aching.  This is what happens when middle-aged ladies wipe out on the sidewalk!  I’ll try to be less of a klutz in the future.

In the meantime,  I see I have a blog post of over 400 words.  Let that encourage me for future posts.  Happy Monday, everyone!

These Things Happen

It wasn’t that I am a bad blogger this time (although I may be a bad blogger; let us leave that discussion for another time). Yesterday was really, truly a Blogger’s Sick Day. After having a marvelous evening and getting home a little before midnight (an unprecedentedly late bedtime for me) (at least in recent memory; never mind my misspent youth), I woke with a truly dreadful headache.

I had not overindulged in the wine at our after theatre dinner and hoped the headache would respond to treatment.  After all, it was Saturday!  I wanted adventures! I tried hydration, aspirin, my heated face thing, naps, a hot shower, and an ice pack (I did not use heat and ice at the same time. I wonder if that would work).

I thought the second nap had helped, so we went out to get some food.  Partway through our late lunch (which really tasted good), it became clear that I was not better, and nothing was going to help.  I guess it was a migraine.  Sometimes putting a label on something can help you bear the pain.

Back home, I could not even watch a movie through the nausea.  In my defense, it was a tense, disturbing movie, which can be wildly entertaining, but my stomach couldn’t take it.

So here I am, up before 6 on a Sunday, typing in a whiny excuse about why I didn’t make a Saturday post.  These things happen.  I hope later on to blog abput a better Sunday.

Well Enough for Mid-Week Monsters

It never fails that when you let yourself off the hook one day because you feel bad, the next day you feel worse!  On the brighter side,  I feel differently today from yesterday.  I don’t have a headache; I’m lightheaded.  All day at work, that seemed worse.  However, now that I am home and busily tapping into my Tablet, I see that I can deal with it.

Do you suppose if I had actually started to make a blog post yesterday, I would have succeeded?  I guess we’ll never know. Why am I even asking; I hate hypothetical questions!  Anyways, I had not thought to make another post about Not Writing but perhaps indulge in a Mid-Week Monsters post.

None of my dates ever actually called me a monster.

I am feeling pretty happy it is mid week.  At the end of my work day, I felt like doing a fist pump and yelling, “We made it over the hump!”  Dammit, I should have a picture of the Hunchback of Notre Dame or Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein.  Unfortunately,  I am only up to finding pics in my Media Library, not searching the internet for something new.

“What are you looking at me for?”

When all else fails,  throw in a picture of Nosferatu.  Regular readers know he’s my favorite.

“This is a good boy!”

Here is the only picture I have of Young Frankenstein in my Media Library.  How remiss of me.  Perhaps I can remedy the lack in future Monster posts.

Another Late Post About Not Writing

I guess I am not a daily blogger any more.  Or else I need more blogger sick days.  At any rate, yesterday evening I got a bad headache and could not even manage to type in “Please excuse Mohawk Valley Girl…”  I would like to say, “In my defense, I did some writing earlier,” but it is not really a defense.  Even if I had, for example, hand written a post in my notebook on breaks at work, I may not have had the wherewithal to type it in last night.  What a wimp! I used to be able to function with a headache!

I have been trying, once again, to turn over a new writer’s leaf (or would that be a page?) (probably; metaphor is not my forte).  So far, not so good, I guess.  I hesitate to say what I have been working on, because I don’t want to jinx it.  I even had what seemed like a great idea for a murder mystery.  It came to me in a dream, so in the light of day, it may not seem so good.  Once again, we won’t jinx it by premature discussion.

OK, so I’ve talked about why I didn’t write anything last night and a couple of things I will not talk about today.  I think I should make Not Writing an official category of Mohawk Valley Girl.

Can 10-Fingered Typing Help Me Now?

I am having a bad blogging weekend.  I fell asleep yesterday (Saturday) without making a post.  Then I got up extra early today, thinking, “OK, two posts in a day; I’ve done that before.”  But I didn’t do it.  Call it no discipline, call it a bad headache (which I had, but it’s gone now, thank heaven!), call be a big fat loser, or just shake your head (or your finger, or your booty).  Where was I?  Ah yes, self-flagellation.  Bad, bad blogger me!

Why does that feel as whiny as my complaints about not feeling able to write?  Oh dear, I was wrong to try to attempt this.  Apparently nothing useful will come out of my brain today.

I had some things to write about, and even some pictures in mind to share.  But all I wanted to do today was lounge around and read a Victoria Holt novel.  I made a pot of chicken soup, after dragging myself to the grocery store for ingredients and other necessities (twice, in fact, because I forgot my purse the first time).  And I knitted while we watched a couple of movies we had DVR’d.

Mostly I spent the day feeling down, down, down.  These things happen, of course.  One cannot spend all one’s time being up, up, up.  Even up, down, up can get a little tiring.  Sometimes the you just have to feel that way until you don’t feel that way any more.  In the meantime, I wanted to make at least one blog post over Saturday and Sunday.  Accordingly, I picked up my Tablet and stylus and…

Typing one letter at a time, even utilizing the sometimes accurate and often amusing predictive text, was just not cutting it for me.  So I switched over to the laptop.  Where things did not seem to go much better.  I just re-read what I have typed so far, and I am not proud of myself.  However, it is over 300 words.  I comfort myself with the thought that no life is wasted: you can always stand as a bad example.  I am sure that must also be true of blog posts.

Please Excuse Mohawk Valley Girl…

Is this great or what?  I am typing in my blog post on an honest to goodness computer.  I am at the Martha Canfield Library in Arlington, VT.  Oh dear, any nefarious persons reading this, do not bother going to rob my house; it has NOT been left unoccupied.  Moreover, there is nothing there worth stealing.  However, if you do not believe me and try, please tidy up while you are there, because I left a mess.  My one regret is that I did not bring my reading glasses and must tilt my head at an uncomfortable angle.  How silly of me.

My other discomfort is that these keys I am typing on are not silent.  I can hear myself thump-thump-thumping on them and can only hope it does not bother any other library patrons.  At least, I don’t know if there are any other library patrons.  The parking lot was empty when I pulled in, causing me to fear the library was not open.  However, I could possibly bother the nice lady behind the desk.

Yes, this is a Wuss-out Wednesday post, which may only be enjoyed by myself, and in fact I am enjoying the ten-fingered typing so painstakingly acquired the summer before 10th grade.  It is quite my favorite skill.  What I really need to let readers know is that due to my being out of town, visiting family for a sad reason, I may not be able to post every day, for the next few.  I know, I know, I should have planned ahead, maybe had a few posts waiting in the wings.  I think we all know, I don’t work that way, more shame to me.

In any case, if and when I can get back on a library or other computer, I make a note to myself: do not forget reading glasses.  My neck does not like all this head tilting!

The Joy of Ten Finger Typing

Typing with ten fingers is the BOMB!  Or is the proper expression “da BOMB”?  Well, it is the only bomb I have going for myself so far, because typing before coffee is not so great, and typing in fear my laptop is going to click off is pretty sad.  Why, oh why, did I not purchase a battery when the fellow at that store which I will NOT plug wrote down what I needed?  But there is no point in lamenting the past.  On with the present late post!

Is this a late Wuss-out Wednesday or an early Non-Sequitur Thursday?  It is only the latter if I fail to make a post later in the day.  No promises, as I often say.  Yesterday was not a horrible day, but I ended it with a backache and a headache and a disinclination to do anything at all.  Actually, I had a pleasant evening watching a couple of crime shows we had DVR’d with my husband Steven.  I also crocheted an afghan.  The shows were Dateline and 48 Hours, if anybody was wondering.  Tonight is 20/20 night on OWN, so I have plans for later.

In the meantime, what to talk about now?  As I took my shower earlier, I was feeling down yet thinking I ought not to make another blog post about it.  For one reason, my mother reads this blog, and I don’t want her to worry.  More importantly, it’s getting old.  I can say that now, because the joy of ten-finger typing has me up again!

And over 250 words.  Score!  And thank you, laptop, for cooperating!  Happy Wednesday/Thursday, everyone!

Why Not Add Monsters?

It’s going to be a Slacker Saturday post, and I may not even pep it up with monster pictures.  Oh, who am I kidding?

I would probably take it as a compliment.

As long as I’m doing a foolish post, why not add monsters ?  Come to think of it, that might make a good title.

I am sitting on my couch , typing into my Tablet, one letter at a time with the stylus,  and as usual getting a kick out of the predictive text function.  I felt pretty okay for most of the day, particularly this morning,  when it was raining.  But then I took a nap on the couch and woke up with a headache .  I’m drinking water,  in case dehydration is a factor.  At least the water tastes good .

“Do you come here often?”

Speaking of hydration… here’s a guy who’s all wet.

I did go adventuring with my friend Kim earlier. It would be a good idea to write about that, but I just can’t do it with a headache .  Sorry.  I didn’t mean to whine.   Then again,  I do always say, go with your strengths.

I thought mentioning candy would be appropriate, since tomorrow is Easter.

I actually clicked on Joan Crawford accidentally when I was scrolling through my Media Library looking for one more monster.  I see I am over 200 words.   I say that’s okay for a Slacker Saturday .
