Svengoolie, Can You Help Me Now?

Hello and welcome to another Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post. I suppose it could be a Scattered Sunday, though, because I have been all over the map.

I went on a long run this morning, did some house cleaning, grocery shopped, and mowed the lawn (no small task with my non-power mower and wimpy muscles). However, as is often the case, the highlight of my day was sitting in front of the television knitting.

He is the man, yes.

I enjoyed not one but two episodes of Svengoolie on my DVR. One was a Roger Corman movie with the rather unfitting title of The Undead. The other was a made-for-tv movie from 972 called Gargoyles.

In between Svengoolies, we saw House on Haunted Hill (the original William Castle/Vincent Price version) and Murder By Death, two of our go-to silly movies.

Aaand it seems my Tablet will not allow me to download pictures of those movies. No doubt I am too technologically ignorant for these things. In any case, I am soon switching over to Snapped, my usual Sunday thing.

I really need a wine glass with the logo.

It is becoming increasingly clear to me that I must reorganize and revitalize my life so that Monday does not bear down on me with swoon-inducing force. Unfortunately, I have few ideas on how to accomplish this. I guess all I can do is pick up my knitting and drive on. At least I have made my Sunday post on Sunday. Pre-Coffee Post

So I enjoyed that Saturday I was contemplating on Lame Post Friday but never got around to making my blog post. Judge me if you are so inclined. Now I sit here early Sunday morning and all I want is coffee.

It’s always a good time for vampires!

Later in the day we watched Mark of the Vampire, starring Lionel Barrymore and Bela Lugosi (no, really, they are billed in that order), which I DVR’d off TCM last October. We also enjoyed a couple other cinema selections.

I love this guy.

We have many episodes of Svengoolie queued (is that really how you spell it? I guessed and trusted autocorrect). I hope to watch another episode today.

I’m afraid this is kind of a lame late Saturday Post, but it will have to do. Later on I may make a post about our coffee maker woes, but I feel that will only be possible after I actually have a cup of coffee.

Basil, Beast, Big Chill… Oh Yeah, and Columbo!

I went running this morning, thinking I could do a Sunday Running Commentary Post. Fortunately that was not the only reason, because I don’t know that I can say that much about it now. However, I have been having a fairly enjoyable Cinema Sunday, so perhaps I can post about that.

Basil has a clue.

We started with Dressed to Kill, starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson respectively. This was how I first encountered Basil Rathbone, not as the horror icon I later found out he was.

“Oh, one more thing!”

We went on to a couple of episodes of Columbo, which we happen to have on DVD. I would like to eventually have the entire series. I loves me some Columbo.

It was scary!

Next I wanted something cheesy, so we went to our collection Attack of the Killer B’s for Track of the Moonbeast. I remembered it from MST3K, if that tells you anything.

Great ensemble piece.

Now we are enjoying The Big Chill, an old favorite with a great soundtrack.

Now I am trying to think of a title to pull this post together. Well, what does anybody want from me on a Sunday afternoon? At least I am up to 200 words and a few illustrations. Time to start looking forward to Monstrous Monday! As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Cinema on Slacker Saturday

I pause in enjoying my evening for a Slacker Saturday Post. I made up my mind earlier this week to have a relaxing Saturday at home, and for once I succeeded in my ambition.

“You made up your mind in one minute!”

Earlier tonight we watched The Bad Seed, one of out favorite cheesy movies. In the above scene, Patty McCormick is still supposed to be the perfect, angelic child, not the selfish, bad-tempered murderess we know she is. No spoiler alert needed there; we all know what the movie is about.

Technically, the blood should be spurting out.

After The Bad Seed, Steven graciously agreed to watch one of my favorites, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die. The above picture does not feature said brain. Personally I feel it is just as well that blood is not spurting out of that arm hole, as I suggested in the caption.

It is sad to me how happy he looks.

We are now watching The Bride of Frankenstein, one of the few movies where the sequel surpasses the original, although I love the original as well. We often watch the two movies together, but I can’t do everything right, especially on Slacker Saturday.

Short Straitjacket Post

This will be a Tired Tuesday Post. For one reason, I am so tired I almost forgot to make a blog post. What’s that all about, me?

Me, trying to sleep. The heads represent my petty problems.

When in doubt, throw in a picture. This is Joan Crawford in Straitjacket, a William Castle classic involving Crawford chopping off a couple of heads. I think many of us have considered taking an axe to our enemies, figuratively speaking, of course. Then perhaps we realize that violence is not the answer, and severed heads make rather a mess. Or so I have heard.

Teeheehee.

I guess this is a Straitjacket post. And a short post. But why not end on Joan Crawford with a cake? Maybe tomorrow I will try again for the post I just couldn’t finish on Monday. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Snapped to Svengoolie to Snapped

This has not been a blogworthy Sunday. I spent a good portion of the morning dithering about what best to do. Finally I put in a load of laundry and went for a run (one of my few instances of multi-tasking). I went to the grocery store. I fixed dinner (late lunch, early supper). And I watched TV and crocheted.

Um, the one we’re watching right now is not so new.

Of course, Sunday and Snapped go together. Just ask the folks at Oxygen. I just loves me some murder and mayhem. I alternately crocheted and cooked while we watched. When I was done running out to the kitchen, we put on a DVR’d Svengoolie.

He’s so cool.

We saw Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman starring Lon Chaney Jr. and Bela Lugosi, among others.

I don’t think the original release was a Castle film, was it?

I want to start doing my movie write-ups again. They did not get as much blogger love as other posts (I am a well-known Like junkie), but I so enjoyed writing them. Perhaps I will see what I can come up with for Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman. At least it will be a change from Why I Can’t Make a Blog Post.

I see I am over 200 words. Phew! It is nice to meet the standard. And I am in time to watch this week’s So New episode of Snapped. Happy Sunday, everyone.

New Year’s with Vincent

I interrupt my New Year’s Eve celebrations to make a blog post. It was easy for my husband, Steven, and I to heed the calls to stay home and not gather for the holiday, because that is what we usually do for New Year’s Eve. Sweat pants, wine, and movies. What more could we ask?

I could ask that my Media Library be more organized, for one thing. We are watching familiar movies, and I know I have pictures of them. Movie pictures add so much to a post like this.

Our first movie was House on Haunted Hill, the original starring Vincent Price, directed by William Castle.  It is one of our perennial favorites.

I have some even better pictures of that movie, but it is too difficult to find them.  Perhaps I will make a New Year’s Resolution to find out how to better organize my photos.

We continued with both Price and Castle with The Tingler.

I paused in my making a blog post to watch Carolyn Jones’ scenes in House of Wax, starring Vincent Price but not directed by William Castle. 

Now that I am over 200 words, I shall feel free to return to my holiday libations and movie viewing.  Happy New Year, everyone!

Slacker to Cinema

This will be a Slacker Saturday Post. I just have not managed to get a damn thing done all day. I did watch a little TV and knitted. Oh, and I went for a run and did a load of laundry earlier. Not much to blog about, I’m afraid.

One of the movies we watched was Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, as presented by Mystery Science Theater 3000.  I like that silly movie even without robot heads.

“We’ll have the Lord’s bright blessing!”

We also watched one of Steven’s personal favorites, Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol.  It was one of the first videos we purchased, back in the day when a VCR was a great thing to have.

Gotta get me a red outfit like that!

Now Steven is watching White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kay, Rosemary Cloonie, and Vera Ellen.

I guess this is now a Saturday Cinema Post.  A short Saturday Cinema Post.  These things happen. Happy Saturday, everyone!

Not Cinema Sunday?

Monday sneaking up on us?

I have never been able to get much done on a Sunday, and most Sundays I don’t even try. It’s a good day to watch movies and do a Sunday Cinema Post. Unfortunately, I have not watched many movies today. However, in the interests of making a blog post, I will share pictures from movies I might have seen.

The above, in case you didn’t know, is Nosferatu, the scariest movie ever. I am sure nobody expects me to stop watching scary movies just because Halloween is over.

I loves me some Bela Lugosi!

I just watched The Bowery at Midnight again recently. I have it on DVD but do not remember where or when I bought it.

Those crazy eyes!

I never thought of The Bad Seed as a Halloween movie, but TCM showed it last night. I did not watch it, though, as it is one we have on DVD and pop in on a regular basis.

It’s trippy.

The Terror is one I have on two separate horror collections. It is not one Steven cares for, so I try to watch it when he is not around. I wrote a blog post about it once.

I see I am just over 200 words. Score! I still have time to watch a movie!

Is This a Frankenpost?

I need a new approach to blogging, but today is not going to be it. Today will be a common or garden Slacker Saturday Post. I have often been offered the good advice of don’t post every day; post when you have something to say. It is, as I say, good advice, but quite frankly, Homey don’t play dat. I have to try my best to post every day.

“Not post every day? Back off, Satan!”

Since that first paragraph was so long, I thought to add a picture. This is Peter Cushing, fighting vampires. I have been enjoying several Hammer Horror films featuring Cushing. He is fine, yes.

Here is Christopher Lee, as one of the vampires Cushing was chasing. Last night was Dracula, tonight was Frankenstein. Alas, I do not have any pictures of Hammer Frankenstein. Other Frankensteins, I have a few.

I am not sure where the above picture of Frankenstein is from, but Frankentree is in my front yard. When I am back on my laptop, I will look for pictures of Hammer Frankenstein. In the meantime, Happy Saturday and stay monstrous!
