But Dracula Isn’t Lame

I am looking at Dracula A.D 1972, a Hammer Horror movie on a DVD collection of four such pictures.  Recently somebody on one of the horror pages I follow on Facebook said this was a really dumb movie, and somebody else asked for opinions.  I said I found it fun, not one of my favorites, but worth popping in once in a while.  With that in mind, I popped it in tonight.  Alas that I have no pictures to share of it.  I still can’t figure out how to download pictures on the Chromebook, and I am far too lazy to get on my Tablet, download a picture, put it in my WordPress Media Library, then get back on the Chromebook to make the post.

Here is Christopher Lee as Dracula.  I do not know which movie it is from, but he does not look a whole lot different in this one.

I would rather drink a glass of wine a day.

Taste the Blood of Dracula is also on this disc, on the opposite side.  I put that side in at first, but I had it in my mind to see A.D 1972. 

Well, this is a boring blog post, even for Lame Post Friday.  Sorry, I am feeling quite tired but hoping to make my Friday post on Friday.  Still, some might enjoy the pictures of Christopher Lee.  He is rather a horror icon.  In any case, I am over 200 words.  Regular readers know that is my standard.  Once again, I will try for a better blog post tomorrow.

Dracula, Joan, It’s Lame Post Friday!

I was thinking about making my Lame Post Friday post late once again, but I decided not to be so lame as all that. Earlier  I thought I would have a lazy, relaxed Friday night, so I am lounged on the couch in pajama pants, sipping Sauvignon Blanc and looking at movies.  I just watched Taste the Blood of Dracula then put in Sudden Fear.  Christopher Lee to Joan Crawford.  Why not?

Dracula likes Friday.

I have been watching too many DVDs since I got rid of cable.  Of course I have a somewhat extensive collection, mostly curated by my late, beloved husband Steve.  My problem is, I have to be in the mood for a particular movie, and I seem to have watched all the movies I am currently in the mood for.  I wish I could change moods as easily as I change DVDs.

Maybe I should stop being in the mood to watch a movie and try to get in the mood to clean this house.  I know, I need to clean my house regardless of mood.  I’ll work on that tomorrow.

I like this movie, Sudden Fear, but it starts so slowly.  I figured that was all right, because I intended to make my blog post while I watched.  Unfortunately it took me so long to find the pictures I wanted, the movie has started to heat up.  No matter.  I’ve seen it before.

So this is my Friday night.  I am enjoying it and hope you are enjoying yours.

Murder Movies on New Year’s Eve

I have developed a bad habit of not posting on the weekend.  I thought I would try to break that habit by making my Saturday blog post today.  Unfortunately,  I got nuthin’.

I have been enjoying New Year’s Eve all afternoon, with champagne.  It was my favorite champagne, Great Western from the Finger Lakes.  I have read that it is not real champagne if it is not from a certain region of France, so I don’t know how Great Western gets away with it.  I do  not at all care.  It is yummy.  Whatever you call it, I am going to drink it.

The point is, I am feeling a little tired and tipsy.  I feel this is understandable if not actually  expected on New Year’s Eve.

A fun movie with a great cast.

Traditionally, my husband, Steve, and I watch movies on New Year’s Eve.  I just spent some time searching my Media Library for a picture of Murder by Death, which I knew I had somewhere.

One of my favorite guys.

Mostly we have been watching episodes of Columbo. Fun!  We did take time for one horror movie, Taste the Blood of Dracula.  I know I don’t have a graphic of that in my Media Library.  Or do I?

I guess  I will bill this as a Saturday Cinema Post.  Happy New Year, everybody!

Mid-Week Monsters to Cheer Me Up

Yes, I have the type it in, backspace it out disease.  I am going to combat it with — you guessed right!  — MIDWEEK MONSTERS!!! If monsters can’t cheer me up, nothing can!

Mmmm… I haven’t had shark steak in years.

The warm weather makes me think of summer, so here is one of my favorite summertime monsters:  Bruce, the title baddie in JAWS (1975).  What a fun flick, and a good story on the making of (as seen, for example in True Hollywood Story, which I used to watch all the time back in the early ’00’s).

Ooh, Peter Graves and Beverly Garland! Wait a minute, I don’t know who Beverly Garland is, although the name sounds familiar.

I don’t believe I ever saw this movie, but I find this to be a delightfully cheesy poster.  And, look, it was produced and directed by Roger Corman.  Its cheesy bonafides are confirmed!

Here is a bloody poster, from a Hammer Horror Flick.  I enjoy these movies, although they are more gory than my usual taste.

You just knew I would include a shot of Nosferatu (1922), didn’t you?  Andnow time is getting away from me, so I sign off.  The monsters did cheer me up.  I hope they had a similar effect on you (Freudian typo:  I put “cher” me up.  If I could turn back time!).

In the Mood for Monsters

“Ya wanna see my bug collection?”

I need a little Tucker to cheer me up.  This is my friend Tucker in our recent murder mystery, Donate to Murder.  He was very funny.  I hit “New Post” wanting to make this a Monday Moan post, but it’s just a mood and there is no reason to inflict it on my readers (although I know I do sometimes).  So I thought a Monstrous Monday was in order.  When I went to my Media Library (you say “Media Library” in a pretentious tone of voice), this little gem caught my eye. I do feel a little cheerier.  I wonder what other monsters I can find to pep up my post.

Mmmmm… garlic.

I thought I’d throw in a little garlic first, in case I include any vampires.  This is from the Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival in Little Falls, NY, last September.  Good times, good garlic.

“Curses! I forgot my sunscreen!”

It is ironic that the sign says “NO SMOKING” when Blackula is smoking hot.  I may have made that observation before, but even the best of us repeat themselves sometimes.

Christopher Lee is the favorite Dracula of many.

I do love a Hammer horror film.

Oh, he is a fine, scary dude!

You knew I was going to include Nosferatu, didn’t you?  I hope nobody minds a vampire-heavy Monstrous Monday.  After I put in the garlic, I felt kind of obligated. This has been, I admit, another foolish post. In my defense, I am working hard on the next mystery, A Trivial Murder.  More information on that will be forthcoming!  Happy Monday, everyone.

Various Movies on Monstrous Monday

I’m sure nobody expected me to get my act together overnight.  If you did, well, you realize you were setting yourself up for disappointment, do you not?  No matter.  We all have foolish expectations from time to time.

All this by way of introduction to another Monstrous Monday.  My only decision now is whether to use repeat monsters or search for new pictures to share.  I think I’ll look for old and try to think of new things to say about them.

Here’s a double bill I never thought of.

I do not remember why I downloaded this shot or when I used it.  Trog, for the uninitiated, is Joan Crawford’s last movie.  It is not my favorite cheesy horror movie featuring Crawford.  And before anybody hazards a guess, neither is Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.  I don’t think I have ever seen Taste the Blood of Dracula, although I have seen a few Hammer Dracula movies starring Christopher Lee.  I understand he kept saying each one was his last, but the studio would talk him into the next, often by pointing out how many people would get work thereby.  If that is true, it gives me quite a good opinion of Lee, even outside of his acting prowess.

What’s a Monstrous Monday without my favorite guy, Nosferatu?

He only looks harmless.

I end with a monster of the human variety, Robert Walker as Bruno in Strangers on a Train, on the right.  The other guy, looking a little apprehensive (and no idea yet how right he is to be so!) is Farley Granger as Guy Haines.  Good movie.  I’ll have to give it another watch soon.  But not on a double bill with Trog.

Sorry, Mr. Lee

Alas, I did not participate in Shop Small Saturday, so I cannot do a post plugging local businesses. I went running this morning, so I could have done Saturday Running Commentary.  And I am going to cook something for dinner, so I could yet do a cooking post.  But here I sit, wanting to get my post done and over with, and I’m just watching, in the most desultory fashion imaginable, a Hammer Horror film I DVR’d in October.

He looks so horrified by the cross. Do you suppose he went to Catholic school?

Who doesn’t love a Hammer Horror film with Christopher Lee as Count Dracula?  Well, Lee himself, as I learned in Ben Mankiewicz’s pre-movie commentary.  As it happens, I am not paying a great deal of attention to it myself, even less so than usual, which regular readers know is very little indeed.  I’m just not in the mood.  So obviously I cannot do a real write-up as I enjoy doing, necessitating a spoiler alert. I did a quick search of Facebook for public pictures, though, to punch up what I do post.

He looks as if he is rather relishing the role in this shot.

 

Dracula must look after his health, after all.

 

What a double bill!

I would not have thought of putting Trog with Taste the Blood of Dracula.  Steven and I watched Trog some years ago, back in the days of video stores.   It was Joan Crawford’s final picture, so we watched it to show respect.  There isn’t really much other reason to watch it, if I recall correctly.  Still, if it shows up on TCM I will DVR it.  Maybe I’ll let it play while I type a blog post.
