Is My Life Really So Monstrous?

Late posts continue, and I do not know why I feel the need to point out my deficiencies.  After all, if they are not obvious to the casual observer, can they be all that bad?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

In the meantime, it is Tuesday morning, and I chose to have a second cup of coffee and make a blog post (or some semblance thereof), rather than do the dishes (don’t judge me for not doing them as soon as they got dirty), fix my lunch, or do any of the other chores hanging over me like a hulking creature promising doom.

Hey, wouldn’t a hulking creature be a monster?  I have led myself right into a Monstrous Monday Post.

He’s scary!   But the movie is fun.

If it conquered the world, I do not feel that I am so much at fault if it keeps me from getting my stuff done.  Then again — Spoiler Alert! — it does not actually conquer the world, although it makes a good try.

Not exactly hulking, but definitely threatening.

This, of course, is from Nosferatu (1922), a delightfully frightening movie. I am afraid I resemble the person on the left, trying ineffectually to escape but not really doing anything of use. I get a little impatient with movie characters who can’t seem to do anything but stare, scream, run the wrong way, fall down, or some combination.  Then again, if the monster had no victims, it would not be much of a horror movie.  I suppose it could still work as suspense, but that is a longer discussion than I care to embark upon before breakfast.

Oh, I could just scream!

I end with an image from The Screaming Skull. I think skulls always look like they are smiling.  This inspires me to start my day with a smile.  After a smile costs me nothing and may brighten someone else’s day.  On that not so monstrous note, I bid you farewell and thank you for tuning in.

Will Monday Conquer Me?

Not literally, unfortunately.

As August grinds to a close, I observe two kinds of people:  The ones that lament the end of summer, and the ones that just can’t wait to go on to fall.  Guess which category I fall into.

Actually, as I get older I strive to avoid wishing for that which patently cannot be.  It is August.  It will remain August for the allotted number of days.  And the temperature will be what it chooses, based on barometric pressure or other meteorological conditions which I do not understand; my personal preferences will not affect it in the slightest degree (see what I did there?).

All this by way of introduction to a Monstrous Monday blog post in which I will strive not to whine about how over-heated I am.  No promises.

It is really not as sexy as the poster implies.

Saturday afternoon when my husband,  Steven fell asleep on the love seat, I seized the opportunity to put in a cheesy horror movie.  I picked this one up on VHS at a rummage sale, so its cheesy bonafides were assured. I had seen it before but do not remember doing a blog post on it.  I miss those write-ups I used to do on cheesy movies.  They were fun to write, although they did not usually get a lot of blogger love.  Regular readers know what a Like junkie I am.

Not an actual depiction of wage slaves going to work on Monday.

I close with an image of what it sometimes feels like trying to function on a Monday.  Oh hell, I get that feeling on and off all week!  Please don’t tell my boss.  I do try to fight it.

Regarding this foolish blog post, I see I am approaching 300 words. I call that respectable.  I hope you will all join me again tomorrow for what may or may not be a Tired Tuesday Post.

Monsters, Don’t Fail Me Now!

Hello and welcome to Monstrous Monday.  I am really out of words this evening, so let me start right out with a monster.

Scary creature, check. Scantily clad woman, check.

This monster looks familiar to me, but I am not sure I have ever seen the movie, although since it is directed by Roger Corman, I feel sure I would like it.  I’d like to watch more old, cheesy horror movies, but my husband, Steven, is less often in the mood.

It’s not too monstrous yet, but wait.

Here is a shot from another Roger Corman flick which I have enjoyed on numerous viewings: Little Shop of Horrors.  I have never seen the musical stage play, but I disliked the movie musical.  However, to each his own, as the old lady said when she kissed the cow.

You should have known we’d get around to him.

Here is my favorite,  Nosferatu.  He’s scary!

Somebody’s hungry!

And here is the delightful natural monster from JAWS.  I suppose it is obvious by now that all I am capable of doing today is posting pictures and typing a few words about them.  If I did not have this obsession with making my blog posts at least 200 words long, I would be done by now.

I thought I might as well throw in a cute one.

One more monster put me over the top!  The cup he is in commemorates the last murder mystery we did for the Herkimer County Historical Society, Fabulous and Fatal.  Perhaps I should write a murder mystery featuring monsters.  That would be worth a blog post.

Mid-Week Monsters to Cheer Me Up

Yes, I have the type it in, backspace it out disease.  I am going to combat it with — you guessed right!  — MIDWEEK MONSTERS!!! If monsters can’t cheer me up, nothing can!

Mmmm… I haven’t had shark steak in years.

The warm weather makes me think of summer, so here is one of my favorite summertime monsters:  Bruce, the title baddie in JAWS (1975).  What a fun flick, and a good story on the making of (as seen, for example in True Hollywood Story, which I used to watch all the time back in the early ’00’s).

Ooh, Peter Graves and Beverly Garland! Wait a minute, I don’t know who Beverly Garland is, although the name sounds familiar.

I don’t believe I ever saw this movie, but I find this to be a delightfully cheesy poster.  And, look, it was produced and directed by Roger Corman.  Its cheesy bonafides are confirmed!

Check out the RDA at the top of the poster!

Here is a bloody poster, from a Hammer Horror Flick.  I enjoy these movies, although they are more gory than my usual taste.

A creepy pic, to symbolize my responsibilities creeping up on me.

You just knew I would include a shot of Nosferatu (1922), didn’t you?  Andnow time is getting away from me, so I sign off.  The monsters did cheer me up.  I hope they had a similar effect on you (Freudian typo:  I put “cher” me up.  If I could turn back time!).

Roger Corman on Mental Meanderings Monday

It is getting later and later in the day on Monday and I still have not done my blog post.  It will, for sure, be Monday Mental Meanderings, but I fear my mental is far from meandering.  It is still.  It has stopped.  I looked for some monster movie pictures to pep up my post a little. I did not find any.  Whatever will I do?

The movie is not as sexy as the poster would make it seem.

At last! I found something! This is the movie we watched last night, a Roger Corman confection which I enjoyed very much.  I must say, the monster was much scarier in anticipation than in sight.  When we finally saw the monster, we laughed and laughed.

I believe there is a sexy brunette or two in this flick.

This is a movie we watched some time previously.  Earlier today I found a write-up I started about it.  I worked a little more at it but fear I must watch the movie again before I can finish it properly.  Who me?  Watch a cheesy movie again?  SAY IT AIN’T SO!

“That won’t qualify for the Dolgeville Violet Festival.”

I close with a shot from another favorite Roger Corman film of mine:  Little Shop of Horrors.  I have little use for the musical, on stage or on screen, but I adore the original cheesy movie.

I guess I don’t have much else to say.  Friends, it’s Monday.  I managed to NOT whine about how I can’t seem to write a blog post today.  I’m afraid that is the best we can hope for. But perhaps I will see you all on Tired Tuesday.

Wrist to Roger Corman to Tempest

Hello, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday, the day I just can’t get much done and write a foolish blog post so I can get back to not doing it.  I am looking at (I can’t say “watching,” but I am periodically glancing at the television screen) a Roger Corman movie.  I thought I had not seen It Conquered The World before but now I am remembering parts.  I really will have to watch it with some attention some day and write a blog post about it.  For now, however, I am still in All Tempest All The Time mode.

I draw your attention to the entry at the bottom of the sign.

Yes, we performed at the Utica Zoo yesterday.  It was a great deal of fun, and I think the audience enjoyed it, too.  I guess the zoo has a lot of stuff going on. I’ll have to check out a few other events when I get a chance.  That would no doubt be worth a blog post.

Next time I want to be the guy with his sword up in the air.

This is one of the cast photos taken after the performance.  We do one smiling nicely and one “in character.”  My character tends to smile nicely each time. An exception would be a picture taken in Little Falls, when the King’s drunken butler was next to me.  I shared that photo before, but for anybody who has forgotten:

Luckily he is not a “method” actor, or he may have drooled. Ew!

I have been thinking again today about what a great cast I have been working with this summer.  I will miss them when this is over.  Then again, there is always the next play.  That is a cheerful thought for Wrist to Forehead Sunday.
