A Productive Lame Post Friday

This is my last weekday off till Labor Day, since I return to work from my latest furlough on Monday.  I spent a good part of the day running here and there to research an article I hope to write for Mohawk Valley Living magazine. I thought I could write a whole blog post about my gyrations.  I have a number of pictures I can share.  However, as the evening wears on, I feel increasingly less inclined to do so.

Then again, it is Lame Post Friday.  How about if I share some of the pictures but do not worry if there are not as many words.  Oh, who am I kidding?  Once I start sharing the pictures, I ought to come up with plenty of words.

I love research.

My first stop was the Oneida County History Center in Utica.  They were very helpful.  While there, I realized that some of the pottery I was researching was on display at Fountain Elms, part of Munson Williams Proctor Institute.  Accordingly,  I headed back down Genessee Street.

Mmmm… beer steins.

I did not stay there long, although I was tempted to grab a bite at their Cafe.  Next time, I hope!  Instead, I took a drive to Little Falls, to Showcase Antiques.  First I did stop for a bite at Ann Street Deli.  I was hungry and needed a pick-me-up!

One photo of many.

I found the particular display I was looking for and had a delightful conversation with one of the owners.  I also looked all around the shop and took a few pictures unrelated to my project at hand.

How could I not take a picture of Schulz and Dooley?

It was a productive and enjoyable day.  Now I have a lot more writing to do.  It should be fun.  In the meantime,  Happy Friday, everyone!

Lame Lawn Work

Hello and welcome to Lame Post Friday, my day of random observations and half-baked philosophy.   My first random observation is that our Brown-eyed Susans have started peeking up over the edge of our deck. I did not take a picture of said Susans, but will post a previous picture of these delightful flowers.

They are supposed to be a favorite of honey bees.

It is the time of year when I wish I had taken more effort in my lawn and garden earlier in the year.  However, that ship has sailed, to use a cliche (sorry about using a cliche, by the way).   I can only appreciate what already exists.

I love these.

Speaking of what already exists,  here is an earlier shot of my Johnny Jump-ups.  They look equally as beautiful now.

Pesto… Mmmmm…..

To continue with what is glorious right now, here is my basil, which is even better as we speak.  I snipped some off for a salad recently.  Yum!

It looks better now, but here are some blooms.

My Black-eyed Susans are doing well too. It may have been a good idea to take a more recent picture,  but, you know, I can’t always do the right thing.

So here is my post:  random observations of flowers.  For Half-Baked Philosophy, I will offer: flowers are good,  gardening is good, sometimes they are not as good as we had hoped.  We must drive on.

Happy Friday,  everyone!

Letter, Local, and Leisure on Lame Post Friday

This was actually a while ago.

I’ve been scrolling through my Media Library,  looking for a photo suitable for Lame Post Friday.  The above was not taken on a Friday, but it was at the End Zone Pub and Grub in Herkimer,  where I stopped in for a drink earlier.  I wore my mask and maintained social distance,  which you see my friends did not need to do on the earlier occasion.

My toenails are a different color now.

Here is another older picture, but it depicts my leisurely posture today.  Yes, I am striving to get useful things done while on furlough, but sometimes I like to relax.  So sue me.  I wrote some on my novel, wrote a letter to a friend, walked with said letter to the post office, and supported a local business to the tune of one drink.  Have I perhaps not earned my leisure?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

Yes, this is the place.

I have gone here a few times recently, as well as going today, following all the recommended protocols.  As I have said, I try to walk the thin line between keeping my germs to myself and supporting local businesses.

Full disclosure: I do not remember where this is.

Ah, here is a crystal ball, which you are welcome to look into and tell me what the future will bring.  Perhaps less lame blog posts from yours truly?  Let us not ask for miracles.

Sharon and Susan Love Friday

This morning, when I still had high hopes of this being a good blog post, I took a couple of pictures of flowers in our yard.

I love my Rose of Sharon.

The picture I took of our Rose of Sharon earlier this week was rendered problematic by the placement of the sun.  Today I got out in the morning, when the sun was conveniently placed on the other side of the house.

A slightly better angle.

I took two views, although I see now that they are none too different.  No matter.  I feel they are different enough to include both.

I feel a little brave, showing my lack of attention to weeding.

I have a few more blooms in my Black-eyed Susans.  As I took the picture, I scolded myself about all the weeds.  As I have said before, I really must up my gardening game.  I did not take another picture of my Brown-eyed Susans,  because they did not look much different from the last picture I took.

This is the last picture I took.

I hope this is sufficient for a Floral Friday Post (is that a real category?  I guess it is now).  In any case, I guess it is enough for Lame Post Friday.  Let us move on to our weekend, shall we?

I Lame a Glass to You

So the same day I make a late post about not writing (see previous post), I also make a lame post.  In my defense, it is Lame Post Friday, my day of random observations and half-baked philosophy.  Never mind why such a post is necessary.  Explanations are so tiresome.

Likewise blog posts.

This is the illustration I wanted to put with my previous post but did not want to take the time to look for it.  I just now scrolled up and down my Media Library and finally found it.   Perhaps the time would have been better spent working on this post, but I cannot worry about that now.

This is what I’m talkin’ about!

This is not my current view, but it might be soon.  Hey, it’s Friday, and I am blessed to be in a Monday through Friday job.  I know many are not so blessed, and I thank you for your hard work.  I have been there.  No doubt many currently work harder than I did when I was there, but you’ll have that.

A toast to all who work harder than I do!

So my random observation is that many people work harder than I do.  My half-baked philosophy is that you’ll have that.  Sufficiently lame, I believe.  Happy Friday, everyone.

No Sweat: It’s Lame Post Friday!

And yet, I am gaining weight. Go figure.

I will try not to spend this entire post whining about the heat and humidity, but no promises.  Sharing the above picture reminded me of a high school friend who used to quote Shakespeare referring to her midsection: “Oh that this too, too solid flesh would melt, thaw and resolve itself to dew.”  Is there a problem with spending an entire post lamenting my weight gain worries?

The beauty part is that today is Lame Post Friday,  so I am going to call whatever I come up with OK, as long as it runs to 200 words.  Maybe another picture would pep things up.

I think they are pretty.

I have been watering my Johnny Jump-ups and my container garden almost every day.  The forecast keeps promising rain and even thunder storms, but they seem to bypass me.  I keep thinking I should take an updated picture but have not done it yet.  And no, I can’t run out and do it now, because it is dark out.

Speaking of dark, I will be glad when we start to get a little more of it.  I’m sure that is an unpopular opinion, but I usually am out of step with the rest of the world (you may have noticed).  Mostly I am looking forward to a later sunrise.  That way, when I go running in the morning, I can begin my run in the dark and end it in the light.  I love that.

Ooh, look, I am over 250 words.  I think I will just close with a picture.  Happy Friday, everyone!

A shot of my neighborhood being rained on, because I hear it starting to rain as I type this.

Ah, the Holiday Weekend!

I have been on vacation (or shut down as we call it in the factory game) for the whole week, yet, as usual, I will take advantage of Lame Post Friday.  For one reason, it is a holiday weekend and I have had a few libations.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

I am ashamed to admit he has better teeth than I do!

Since it is 4th of July weekend, I suggested we begin the movie watching portion of our day with JAWS.  Even if JAWS was not so admirable as a movie, which it totally is, it would be  noteworthy as the first of the real summer blockbusters.  If I am mistaken about this (Hell, I’m no film scholar;  I just like to watch movies), please let me know about previously released summer blockbusters, because I would love to check them out.

OK, I just spent a goodly amount of time looking for a photo I thought I had of Fatal Attraction.  I had no luck.  Such is my lack of skill on the Tablet.  I suppose I will just have to mention that we saw it without benefit of illustration.

I had batter luck with our next feature, Invasion of the Body Snatchers.  It is playing as I type this (one letter at a time with the stylus, of course).  This is really a depressing movie when I think about it. Spoiler alert:  We’re all doomed.

A dramatic moment!

I don’t know what movie we will watch next, so I will close with an appropriate image I came across in my searches.

To us all!

Alas, I only have one Christopher Lee movie in my collection, and it does not include vampires.

Happy Friday and Happy Holiday Weekend!  And if you are obligated to work the weekend, don’t hate, please.  I’ve been there and may be there again.

Oh, Leave Me a Lame!

I was torn between that headline and “Oh, Please Lame Me Alone!”  Which do you prefer?  Please tell me in Comments.  I love comments and I very rarely get any.  But how needy of me to say so.  No matter.  Today is Lame Post Friday and I intend to enjoy it.

Of course, I do not strictly rate a Lame Post Friday since I have been off work since Wednesday.  Judge me if you feel so inclined. I cannot worry about these things now.

I am looking at Dateline while trying to type this (one letter at a time with the stylus) (and, as Truman Capote once said, “That’s not writing, that’s typing”).  I was looking at a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie  but messed it up while trying to fast forward through the commercials. Once again, I cannot worry about such things now.

I am actually having a fairly enjoyable Friday.  That could be due to the wine I am imbibing.  Once again, judge me if you are so inclined. We do all tend to judge one another, don’t we?  Oh, I suppose YOU never do (you know who you are).  I say that this is not bad if we use such judgements to improve our own behavior.  Do YOU do so?  I hope I do.  I say, “I don’t want to be that way!”

Do I indeed change my behavior?  I hope I do, at least most of the time.  Then again, we none of us live up to our ideal all the time (and no, you do NOT!).   But one does what one can, even on Lame Post Friday.

Let There Be Lame!

I know I said yesterday was my Friday, but yet I am having Lame Post Friday today.  For one reason, I thought of that title, which fits in with a picture I just took.

Ducky likes wine!

We’ve seen the duck before, but the light was a Christmas present from my husband Steven.  He just finally got it placed in front of our fireplace,  replacing the Santa that previously resided there (who, us be late in taking down all our Christmas decorations?  SAY IT AIN’T SO! ).

I hope you are not uncomfortable seeing Christmas decorations in June.

Here is a view showing Santa, as well as some other seasonal decore.  We did get most of this taken down before 2020 was too far progressed.

Regular readers may remember the duck from other pictures, including one of my favorites.

Bonita is better dressed these days.

The picture was originally taken to highlight Bonita, our skellington (I was calling skeletons skellingtons LONG before Jack Skellington was a thing).  But I love that you see the duck grinning out of the box and Santa peeking around the corner.  That Santa stays there most of the year.  We usually put him out on the porch in December.

So this is my post of skellingtons, ducks, Santa and a light.  Sufficiently lame, I hope.  I also hope to see you all on Saturday, whatever sort of post it turns put to be.

Mohawk Valley Lame?

Please don’t eat the daisies!

Hello, and welcome to Lame Post Friday.  I open with a picture of my daisies, just to make things pretty.  I have had a fairly productive day and do not despair of making a not bad blog post.  Of course, no promises on a Friday (or ever, I must admit).

I mowed the lawn and spent some time chopping and pulling up overgrown stuff where I cannot mow.  I briefly considered taking before and after pictures but decided against it.  It would have distracted me from the task at hand, and I needed to get all the work possible out of my burst of ambition.

After a shower and rest, I finished my articles for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  They sadly were forced to cancel the April, May and June issues.  I was delighted to make submissions for July.  I hope they like what I wrote.

The lovely bouquet on my mantle.

As a preview of coming attractions,  this is a photo from one of the businesses I wrote about, Houle Flower Farm in Little Falls.  Indeed, I must also make a blog post about it soon.

I do love flowers.

And this is a shot from AW Greenhouse and Garden, also in Little Falls,  the other business I wrote about, and another subject of an upcoming blog post.  I may return there soon for more Johnny Jump-ups.

I really like them.

And so I close with a previously shown picture of the Johnny Jump-ups.  I can’t wait to see where they jump up!

So I guess this has been a flowery Lame Friday Post.  Just my little contribution of beauty to pur world.
